“Bro, I knew something was wrong when a little pretty white girl ran into a black man’s arms.”

We are all fascinated by this story out of Cleveland. Three girls kidnapped and held against their will for almost ten years. It has all the makings of a made for television movie. ("Terror On Seymour Street".) Everyone is scratching their head and wondering how this could have happened. How could three women be taken off the street and held captive within a three mile radius of where they were taken in a major American city? This story just goes to show you that you never know who your neighbors really are.

There are others aspects of this story that I found somewhat depressing as well, and it is the behavior of America's new hero, Charles (Chuck) Ramsey, the neighbor who allegedly rescued one of the women.

I am sure that you all know Charles by now, he is an Internet sensation and folks are eating up the fast talking dishwasher who seemed to be more at ease on the camera than the reporters who were reporting the story.

Of course you Negroes all know the drill when it comes to news crews in the hood: they always seem to try to find the most ignorant person to interview. With my man Charles it looks like they hit the jackpot.

Charles, if his account of the event is true, is a hero, and he should be given all the credit and praise that heroes deserve. But sadly, Charles, like so many Negroes living in America, seems to be trapped in a state of mental slavery.
His line about the "pretty little white girl" was cringe worthy. I am glad for his candor, but it says a lot  about poor Charles Ramsey and where his head is.

I am sure that I am in the minority with this observation, (I feel like Sgt. Waters in a Soldier's Story) because I have seen the love Charles is getting from all quarters. Folks are sending him money and even trying to get him an audience with his Oness. But they are not doing it because his openness and honesty made public an "uncomfortable truth about race relations in America", ( I saw the news man trying to cut him off as well) rather, I suspect, that many of them are loving his act because he reinforces their stereotypes, and he came off in those interviews in perfect character as the kind of Negro that some Americans just love.

Charles, they are laughing at you, not with you.

If only I thought Charles was the reading kind I would leave him with the following quote from Carter G. Woodson.*

“If you can control a man’s thinking, you don’t have to worry about his actions. If you can determine what a man thinks you do not have worry about what he will do. If you can make a man believe that he is inferior, you don’t have to compel him to seek an inferior status, he will do so without being told and if you can make a man believe that he is justly an outcast, you don’t have to order him to the back door, he will go to the back door on his own and if there is no back door, the very nature of the man will demand that you build one.”
