The A-merry-can lie.

This is a rare middle of the day post for me, but I have to do it, because the shit I want to write about is just too pressing to ignore. Over the past few days we have seen a concerted effort by the FUCK NEWS Channel (Although they have become unraveled lately. I love a good anchor vs. anchor fight don't you?), and other main stream media outlets to make an issue of the "O" man's pastor. Seems that the good Reverend said some things that scared quite a few folks in Wonder Bread A-merry-ca, and thus by association, the "O" man had all of a sudden become a racist.

Now thanks to Sam Stein, over at Huffington Post, there is another story about Mr. Morton's pastor. And I was just wondering if A-merry-ca will ignore or choose to give the same scrutiny and air play to this story as they gave to the one about the "O" man's pastor. Somehow I doubt that we will be seeing the hour to hour coverage on FUCK NEWS, and the nonstop talking heads devoted to talking about this story.

And what exactly is the good Reverends story? Seems he compared Planned Parenthood to the KKK and the Nazis and he accused them of committing genocide against black people. Pretty outrageous stuff, and pretty unAmery-can isn't it? But wait; it's not a black man talking about white oppression, it's a white man talking about white oppression, so I guess it's not that big of a deal. Right?

Come on now A-merry-ca, let's be honest with ourselves; shouldn't Mr. Morton now be forced to give a speech about bigotry, hate, and making reckless irresponsible comments in the public square? If we are going to tie Reverend Wright to the "O" man's hip, shouldn't we do the same with this guy? Hey, read the article, I couldn't make this shit up. I will give Mr. Morton a pass with John Hagee, but not Reverend Parsley, he declared to the world that this guy was one of his spiritual advisers.

So OK FUCK NEWS, I will be watching, and I hope the rest of A-merry-ca will be watching you too. I hope A-merry-cans (not you Black folks because you get it), especially independents, realize just what kind of "three card monty" you are trying to pull over their eyes. I hope they see you and the others in the media for the frauds that you really are. I hope they see past the big A-merry-can lie and start thinking for themselves.

"If I were call for the sterilization or the elimination of an entire segment of society, I'd be labeled a racists or a murderer, or at very best a Nazi,..." No you wouldn't Reverend, because unless you are a black preacher from the South Side of Chicago, they will totally ignore you.

In the words of Ronnie reagan, "there you go again." Ha! I'm telling you true, Field, Mr. Morton is playing games with these idiots and sickos to mollify them. If he beats Barack, within 100 days in office he's figurately (perhaps literally if he gets enough booze in him) going to revert back to his Nam/Martin Sheen-Apocalypse Now persona and jack them up. The minute they start wandering into the Oval Office demanding the pay-off, he will go off. And this, not age, is why if he wins he will be a one-term president and Barack will come back. The GOP will be in turmoil over succession the way the GOP was unsure of Dick Nixon in 1960 and Ike was likely secretly pulling for JFK.

Happy Easter

Hey Field:

Its good you point out the hypocrisy in all this. Actually the preachers' worse comments were when he suggested that Christians should launch a war against Islam. Scary stuff.

BTW the things the right wing Rev says about abortion being a black holocaust are mouthed by some black preachers as well. Yeah I know

I think that while I understand all the attention placed on the primary esp, by Obama fans, we have to be careful and not get pulled away from the fact that there are some serious happenings in the country.

Hillary did right to suggest what could have been done domestically with the estimated $2 trillion that has been spent on war in Iraq. Folks are hurting and foreclosures are still occurring and these folks need help. Speaking of the Iraqi conflict most don't know about the Winter Soldier conference that exposed the horror that the occupation really is for Iraqi's and how damaging to the young pysche's of our young people forced to play occupier.

This tit for tat about race and religion, while its revealing to see what the right wing churches are saying it is a distraction and it is divisive and the ruling class knows it, its why the talking heads are pouring it on.

On the one hand, it allows us an opening to talk about race and even class, but on the other it is solidifying folks prejudices and further polarizing the folks that need to come together.

Have a great Easter holiday weekend.

Yeah Field you didn't know but I too am a subsriber to a liberationist theology

Hey FN:
I agree with the Right Wing Pastor about Black abortion. I do think it is one of the most egregious crimes committed against humanity. On the other hand, Islamophobia is racism in disguise. As to Rev Wright, I have met his pompous ass before and no one can take away the positive stuff he has advocated and DONE in the community where Trinity is located.

But sometimes he shoots off at the mouth and trust me, he is a grade A jerk.

I do feel the hypocrisy that you have stated however. It makes NO sense to call Obama a racist and no sense to call out Rev Wright if Rev Parsly isn't called out either.

But like I said, I agree with Rev Parsley about abortion. And I am now six months pregnant. Field, since you NEVER can get pregnant, you will never know the spiritual aspects of carrying another being inside of you. All I can say is that my resolve against abortions has only been strengthened by my pregnancy.

Don't you see that this stuff is not as emotionally-laden as black racism? White people seem to love to be angry when black people are defiant, and lately they seem to relish throwing around the phrase "black racist" - it's liberating for whites to be able to accuse blacks of perpetuating the same things that they have been accused of! Free from guilt, the myth of innocence and all that. Doesn't our friend Shelby Steele talk about that? So while I feel your righteous indignation, I just don't think that any of this has the same value or interest to the "typical white person," who gets their information from Fox and the msm, because as you and I know, what THEY think and feel matters most!Once again white America tells black America 'kiss my ass' and what do we do about that?

Hey Field and company since it was Good Friday and believe it or not I am a licensed minister of the gospel.I am more the itinerant social justice type and preach with my pen a bit more than anthing else.

I put together a blog on my myspace page, kind of challenging the conservative and racist and right wing followers of Jesus. I titled it "Jesus Jeremiah and justice"

I hesitate to identify myself as a Christian because these days that could mean anything I mean I don't have anything in common with those right wing crazies.

Anyway its fitting for the season and I felt inspired so anybody who wants to check it out you can go to www.myspace.com/mellaneous.

I feel you too about not wanting to debate with those narrow minded folks on the other side. But man they have been saying some crazy things. One of the craziest is that Obama is the anti-Christ.

Hope you understood my point about keeping rev Right wing in check but not missing the bigger issues as well.

Fox News has decided to do a hitjob on Obama. I'm sorry but it's working. They won't let this go. I can't stand that network. It's the white version of BET without the nudity. It's ignorant white folks spouting hate. They have no understanding of the black experience and refuse to tell the truth.

I find interesting to call Rev. Wright when he mostly yelled about the government than white people, however, perhaps white people equate themselves to the government. I also find it interesting that although, white people think racism is the thing of the past, they use it very conveniently when it suites their purpose. Why talk about racism when you can use it as a constant stumbling block to cause distraction away from being economically and financially independent. I do believe that at the core of racism, sexism, and classism you find economics at the base of it as Henry Louis Gates has stated in his interview with Tavis Smiley.

What gets me is the white working class who do not seem to get it, and to extent I can understand if all you are thinking about how you are going to get your head above water, and the powers that be count on that. They also count on the working class voting against their interests and continue to vote for as Field calls him the Mr. Morton's of the world. This country is so anti-intellectual and doesn't bother to do any research for facts and think independently. However, we certainly have an opinion about Brittany Spears and what she is up to, but have a discussion about is the surge working in Irag or how to improve education in this country and it becomes too taxing. I am writing shaking my head because the stupidity of it all, and some of us have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Hey Field,

In today's news I found that HRC has her own pastor problem. I found first via www.dsbnola.com, then Barbara Ehrenreich writing for The Nation, then Mother Jones magazine that Hillary actually belongs to a bizarre right wing secretive bible study group in D.C. known as "The Family" and has for quite some time. I know this sounds like some kind of conspiracy theory but these are good sources...I know she's probably just done it to snuggle up to the right wing, as she's so fond of doing, but damn.

Brother Field, I agree with you in regards to-- what good for the goose is good for the gander. Mr.Morton (your apropo lable) should have his speech to explain his clergy association. But sorry-- that will NEVER happen. This guy is a military officer whose job it was to drop bombs on people. In that capacity he has no regard to feelings us human share with others. Dropping bombs on people from miles in the sky makes you indifferent to the human kind-- at least fighting in the jungle smelling, hearing and seeing destruction of another human will make you more sensitive to mankind albeit after you get over the numbness. John "Killer From Above" has no feelings from his "patriotic duty". So please dont for a moment think that he will have or had compassion for people who are "less than". They will pump up the flag and drop the confetti for their "war hero". So our feelings will not stand in the parade to the white house. Beware of the Clinton gangbangers-- even they used the patriot/hero in descibing him today. Translation: if I can't win- then you are not going to win. Now let me "go back to my 'hooch'". Thats the only way I can deal with Amerikka right now. StillaPanther2

The only way the soulless white men (the certain ones who consider themselves the echelon of American society) manage to stay on top is by standing on a pedestal of hypocrisy. And even though everyone, including the mindless, lazy sheep who blindly support them, can see this hypocrisy, through and through, they let themselves believe the scary scenarios folks like O'Reilly present to them. Just 'boogie-fy' the enemy, in the is case the black man running for the most powerful position in this country... and you just may frighten enough people into believing he's dangerous.

It's quite obvious, if a network is harping on one particular subject for HOURS when the rest of the world is dealing with other, more timely issues, they probably have an agenda -- and it's not giving you the news.

It's great how O'Reilly had McCain on his show and was bouncing comments off of him critical of Obama and Wright... like McCain is affiliated with two wacko 'men of god' himself. Men who have some very dangerous ideas and have insulted other cultures, races and religions... why isn't Fox looping their hateful, ignorant statements for the masses? Because McCain is there man.

If folks are too lazy or stupid to want to find out the truth for themselves... I guess we're stuck. You can't make somebody care unless you attack them personally.

Is it that they were not discovered as the chosen one and ask to represent the Republicans or Libertarians. Maybe their dreams of greatness have been denied and in their reality they didn't work hard enough, because it couldn't be racism that held them back. I was listening this morning to NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday to an interview between Susan Stamberg and Joshua Guild, professor of African-American Studies at Princeton and he made very interesting comparisons to the speech given by Jesse Jackson in 1984, and Booker T. Washington's speech at the Atlanta Exposition in 1895. If you read Washington's speech, it was a significant going into the 20th century. Some of Washington's contemporaries considered him the house negro of his time because he wanted to blacks to a gradual integration into white society and not beat them over the head causing a even more greater riff.

The problem with this country is our inability to deal with the complicated issues of race and slavery. And I am going to said that Jefferson was right that slavery was not good for whites or blacks as you see product of in the present. I'm going to use this word because I am not running for any political office, but the typical white person has a sense of entitlement. Field you are right, color does trump common goals because they allow the powers that be to change their focus. They are worried about some hypothetical same sex couple who want to get married than the number of soldiers are killed or injured in Iraq. I was listening to some people in Atoona, PA who said they are going to vote for McCain despite the fact that they are unhappy with the war. Which I find strange because if they brought a product they were not happy with, they would not purchase again and take their business elsewhere. I do understand why that does not apply in voting, but unfortunately, I am not surprise or shocked by the responses.

Since you asked above, I haven't talked about ruling anyone elses' decisions or life. But I DO think that elective abortions are morally reprehensible. Slavery was legal at one point and was also morally outrageous.

Folk very close to me have had elective abortions and I have never stopped loving or supporting them, but I certainly did not support their decisions to abort.

The bottom line is that it is sanctioned child murder no matter how it is framed.

My biggest issue with abortion is that it never should have left the discretion of the medical profession. It should never have been politisized. Medically (and Psychiatrically) necessary abortions are a far cry different than someone who says: "I am not ready to be a parent. Let me get rid of this kid." I figure that if you participate in sexual activity then you are tacitly saying that you accept the responsibility for that act. AND if not, maybe you ought not be fuckin!

Anonymous said...

@baatin:

"clearly you won't have one. but why would you wanna determine the course of someone else's life?

Choice is what free will and self-determination is all about. I'll concede that.

That's why I wouldn't presume to tell any woman what to do, or not to do, with her body.

Yet, I revere life. Life, for me is God, and to snuff out that which is divine leaves me sad, and despondent.

As humans, I pray we exercise more care in our choices, when it comes to when we have sex, and with whom we have it.

Unprotected sex, for example, can be a death sentence, or years of painful inconvenience, or the relegation of children to being raised by a single mom.

Casual sex can lead to the abortion of children that aren't wanted.

Life is a process with rules. Here's one. You've heard it before:

"As you sow, you reap."

Taking a life has consequences. It's just the way it is, whether we end the life of a fetus, or take a life in an otherwise justified war.

I reiterate: Taking a life has consequences.

Consequences for the person who takes the life, and for the nation or society that countenance it.

Please note: I said consequences not retribution.

What I find stunning is how oblivious we are to "consequences," although we see them played out daily.

Either way, God has no preference in the matter. But for those of us who're face with the dilemma of having, or not having, perhaps we should.

Perhaps adoption should become the national choice for unwanted children, instead of the national compulsion.

Let's honor life for what it is: divine.

Anonymous said...

I think abortion is a complicated issue and there really is not right or wrong when it is the person's right to choose. I prefer that abortion is legal than illegal as it would provide a safer environment for the woman. Many women of the 50s and 60s can tell you horrible stories about unsafe abortions leading to death or the woman not being able to having children at all in the future. So this is a pragmatic and realistic way of looking at the problem. People feel strongly against abortion will be probably never have one. My greatest concern is that is safe.

Do I think some people out there use abortion as a method of birth control, the answer is yes, but that is probably the minority than the majority. In addition, abortion in this country is at a 35 year low. I think birth control should be more readily available, but every time anti-abortion legislation gets pushed, they also include anti-birth control as well as they consider using birth control a form of abortion. I know my health insurance does not cover birth control unless the doctor has a medical reason to prescribe birth control pills for health reasons. I am a strong advocate in planning for families. I think people are better parents when they decide to plan for children. I think It is irresponsible for some people to have children when they are not emotionally or financially stable to care for them. I think it is also irresponsible for the right to life to focus only about the unborn children and less concern about children who already exist living in poverty.

We have to make live better for the little ones, and that should be a higher priority, what is the best interest of the child. I am not saying that there is some insidious plot against children, but we could do a better job in caring for them. I do think about all those children in the foster care system that will really do not want to adopt. There are too horrible stories out there of individuals who have done things to children that gives the chill. I never forget one case almost 30 years of a man who hammered nails into a boy of a six year old. There was a recent trial in New York of a 7 year old girl that was killed by her step-father and convicted of manslaughter. There are very few cases of this nature that convict for murder of children. The injury did not find him guilty of 2nd degree because they did not see where he had depraved indifference to her life. Despite the fact that he was beating her in the way that it did result in her death.

I wish life was easy, but unfortunately it is not and we as humans have to make best decisions possible. However, I do not equate slavery with abortion because slavery exploited people who already existed, but you can make argument of how can you reconcile supporting the death penalty, but against abortion if you are someone who believes in honoring all life. Again, there are not easy answers

Mahndisa S. Rigmaiden said...

"However, I do not equate slavery with abortion because slavery exploited people who already existed."

This will be the last thing I say about abortion on this thread, but above we see the utter ILLOGIC in the pro abortion position. At what point does a fetus NOT exist? HUH?
If it is inside of you growing, then it exists already! Therefore, the equation of slavery to abortion makes a lot of sense. Both include persons whose fate was chosen for them without their consent.

Lastly, just because there were botched abortions in the fifties and sixties doesn't mean that elective abortions should be easily accessible. Again what of accepting personal responsibility for ones actions? People do a lot of bad things like take IV drugs, yet needle exchange programs have been shown to be quite UNeffective. Same principle here. You cannot stop something that is wrong by coddling those who commit such actions.

People tend to do, but not always, what's in their best interest. Society doesn't do a good enough job of showing prospective mothers, or those of child-bearing age, the consequences of pregnancy termination.

Since we don't see the processes of life, we naturally assume that they don't exist.
