Bringing back the Black Codes.

I have written about a sort of new post Reconstruction fever sweeping over the United States since the election of Barack Obama in the past. It is now republicans and not democrats, and it is 2014 and not 1877; but the similarities are clear.

I still tend to think of Southern elected republican politicians as Scalawags. The grand deal to elect Rutherford B. Hayes as president meant that Southern whites could go back to treating blacks the way that they did prior to the ending of the Civil War.

Here we are in 2014, but make no mistake; there are quite a few elected officials who would love nothing more than to bring back the Black Codes.

They do a great job of covering it up, but every now and then one of them slips and we are reminded of what we are dealing with.

"The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Tuesday that Georgia state Senator Fran Millar (R) penned an angry response to DeKalb County’s announcement that early voting will be available on Sunday, October 26, and that an early-voting location will be opened at The Gallery at South DeKalb Mall. Millar represents part of the county and is Senior Deputy Whip for the Georgia Senate Republicans.

Millar wrote:
Now we are to have Sunday voting at South DeKalb Mall just prior to the election. Per Jim Galloway of the AJC, this location is dominated by African American shoppers and it is near several large African American mega churches such as New Birth Missionary Baptist. Galloway also points out the Democratic Party thinks this is a wonderful idea – what a surprise. I’m sure Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter are delighted with this blatantly partisan move in DeKalb. Is it possible church buses will be used to transport people directly to the mall since the poll will open when the mall opens? If this happens, so much for the accepted principle of separation of church and state.

Many predominantly Black churches around the country organize “Souls to the Polls” events that encourage churchgoers to vote after attending Sunday church services. This often relies on carpooling and is perfectly legal, according to the Freedom From Religion Foundation (which advocates for a strict separation of church and state). While Republicans in places like North Carolina and Ohio have pushed to eliminate Sunday voting hours, it is unusual for a legislator to so candidly admit that this strategy is about reducing African American turnout.
Millar notes that he is “investigating if there is any way to stop this action” and that he and State Representative Mike Jacobs (R) “we will try to eliminate this election law loophole in January,” as it might boost Democratic voter turnout.
On his Facebook page Tuesday, Millar stood by his comments, writing: “I would prefer more educated voters than a greater increase in the number of voters. If you don’t believe this is an efort [SIC] to maximize Democratic votes pure and simple, then you are not a realist. This is a partisan stunt and I hope it can be stopped.” [Source]

Mr. Millar, I don't mean to be picky, but I am guessing that "more educated" voters would know how to spell e-f-f-o-r-t.

But hey, that's just me.

Anyway, I hope that we don't have to bring back the Underground Railroad for you Negroes down in Georgia.

Finally, the NFL is saying that they tried to get that Ray Rice video of him punching out his wife in an Atlantic City elevator, but they were not "granted that opportunity".

“We had not seen any video tape of what occurred in the elevator. We assumed that there was a video, we asked for the video, we asked for anything that was pertinent, but we were never granted that opportunity.”

Yeah right.

If you think, for a minute, that one of the most powerful organizations in America could not have gotten an elevator surveillance video from the casino that involved one of their players, I have a wonderful antique bell with a slight crack on the side from my hometown that I would just love to sell you.

Sorry Roger, I am siding with Harvey Levin on this one.

The Black Code has been in effect for a long time, Mr Field. Especially in the South.

However, even if it did not exist, Blacks don't usually vote anyway. Voting for Barack Obama was an exception. And that proved to be useful for Obama but useless and economically disastrous for Blacks everywhere.

You can be sure Blacks will act according to Black Code whether it exists or not.

It's depressing but that's the way it is.

Okay, that was laugh out loud funny.
Only a black person could think the NFL was "one of the most powerful organizations in America".

Wow.

The problem with this country is too much democracy. We are ruled by the whims of the ignorant.

Only educated, property-owning males should be allowed to vote.

Glad you're following this story and the BR story, Field! But you missed out on this gem in Philly!
http://crooksandliars.com/2014/09/philadelphia-about-decriminalize-marijuana
Pretty soon, you won't be considered a criminal for carrying around a little weed in Philadelphia.Philly Mayor Michael Nutter confirmed Monday that he will sign a bill into law that will make his city the largest in America to decriminalize marijuana possession, Philly Mag reports. Essentially it softens the penalty for such an offense from possible jail time to a $25 fine.

Nutter wasn't a fan of the bill in the past, but he told KYW Newsradio that he agreed to sign the bill -- with a caveat -- because he's seen too many of his citizens slapped with charges for small amounts of pot.

"So I think the agreement ends up putting the city and our citizens in a much better place," Nutter told CBS News, noting that signing the bill won't be the same as condoning marijuana use.

Though earlier reports have stated that Nutter would sign the bill this week, it'll likely take another two. He arrived at a compromise with City Councilman Jim Kenney, who originally sponsored the bill in May. Nutter's tweak will tack on a $100 fine for smoking in public, which can be waived with a few hours of public service. Kenney's bill will be amended Thursday by the council and get a final vote two weeks later before it shows up on Nutter's desk again.

Kenney says the amendment is still a whole lot better than Philadelphia's current law, which punishes any marijuana possession with at least a $200 fine, a drug abuse course and an arrest record, according to Mic.

Who says city hall (in Philly, anyway) is hopelessly corrupt?

Senator Fran Millar is correct.

In North Carolina, Obama's DOJ sued a country for wanting to use nonpartisan ballots. Obama's DOJ argued without the "D" on ballots, blacks wouldn't know who to vote for.

In Texas, blacks helped elect Dave Wilson.

In South Carolina, blacks elected Alvin Greene (someone who didn't have a campaign operation) because he was a Democrat and had a black sounding name.

Despite rising unemployment rates, crime rates, poverty rates and falling incomes in the black community, over 90% blacks still voted for Obama. Obama gets over 85% approval rating among blacks.

We can look at what black voting has done to places like Detroit, Chiraq and Oakland.

You can't blame YT for pointing out the stupid of black voters.

And field, you can blame the NFL for submitting to black privilege.

Within most sports, blacks can get away with (or get a slap on the wrist) for abusing women.

Especially black women.

Sad for Ray Rice there's a video.

That's not gonna stop blacks from overwhelming supporting him.

Kuckoo, if their weren't for the fact that racist Republicans have purposely undermined the President, Blacks would be more upset about the things you mentioned.

State launches fraud investigation into voter registration group

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned Georgia's secretary of state is investigating allegations of forged voter registration applications and demanding records from a voter registration group with ties to one of the state's highest ranking Democrats.

A subpoena was sent to the New Georgia Project and its parent organization Third Sector Development on Tuesday.

The organization is a project of the nonprofit organization Third Sector Development, which was founded and is led by House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams.

The subpoena demands all documents be turned over to the State Election Board's investigators by Sept. 16.

In a memo sent to county elections officials, Secretary of State Brian Kemp said in recent weeks his office has “received numerous complaints about voter applications submitted by the New Georgia Project.”

Kemp wrote, “Preliminary investigation has revealed significant illegal activities’ including forged voter registration applications, forged signatures on releases, and applications with false or inaccurate information.”

Having grown up in Texas and spent my almost four decades of life here, I definitely see the resurgence of Black Codes and other remnants of the Reconstruction and Jim Crow period. However, we need to have Codes for ourselves if we're going to effectively fight the Codes of the dominant society. I recently wrote a piece on my book blog called "The Black Code for Law Enforcement" (aka the GHOST Rules). You can find it here:

Uhhh... wealthy yeah, well connected, yeah, accomplished at arranging bread and circuses for the unwashed ignorant masses and creating employment opportunities for the new Jiggers, but "powerful" ... not so much.

The NFL is popular in the US as is college ball. Got it. But there are loads of people who don't watch NFL, who couldn't care less, and whose lives aren't impacted by anything the NFL does or doesn't do.

That doesn't equate into "powerful" unless you allow mindless mouth breathing entertainers to influence your day.

Sad, and pathetic, but TNB.

Explain exactly how the NFL has the power to restrict my individual freedoms, choices and mobility and then maybe I'll buy off on your delusion that they are "powerful".

Wow.

Hey Anjuan Simmons -

I read your GHOST piece. Although I applaud your initiative, your piece doesn't address the issues.

(1) Groups of black people, especially black men, in light of the uptick in wilding and random violence by blacks against non-whites translates into the wide held belief that Groups = immediate danger and raises the perceived threat threshold. You are asking for more hostile interactions when you cluster in Groups and you play right into ALL of the stereotypes.

(2) Nobody cares about your social media uploads, etc for the water-carrying corporate media, which is rapidly losing power and influence because of their refusal to report the truth and instead are sackless water boys for the BGI.

Social media uploading (witness both the Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown social media accounts) are backfiring in your attempts to fight back against the meme of the black feral "thug". Video uploads of wilding events like Louisville KY and the recent Kroger attack in Memphis TN only add to the perception that all blacks are out of control, violent and uncivilized.

Voluntary social media uploading to WSHH and other similar sites has made your image problem much worse instead of improving it.

(3) If you think the actions in #Ferguson made anyone not black "feel your pain" you are deluded. Whites and Asians went on with their lives, except they became more entrenched in their belief system that all black men are violent and criminal and liars.

Gun sales went through the roof in STL.

The BGI meme was quickly mocked by "Pants Up" and "Don't Shoot, We're Only Here to Rob and Loot"....

Well played, #Ferguson agitators, well played.

Aside from that, carry on ...

-------------------------------

I have repeatedly warned here that blacks needed to take the reins of power with the election of Obama and handle them carefully, by leading through example.

Instead, the current crop of black leadership couldn't help themselves and dove headfirst into the muck of corrupt and cronyism and "political payback" against their perceived enemies.

The backlash that is coming the way of Black America is going to be very ugly, and much worse than anything that happened in Redeemed America.

And yes, the era of Peak Negro has passed for you all. That was as good as it gets. Hope you enjoyed the ride.

Saw the piece on the downfall of Kwame Kilpatrick and his cronies.

Then tried to figure out any black leadership that hasn't been found criminally corrupt, or any majority black, black run berg that isn't dysfunctional and bankrupt.

Even PG county in MD is FUBAR. The upper middle class professional blacks are fleeing there for Prince Wm county in Virginia, and they're busy turning PWC into a sewer and white flight is pretty much complete.

Blacks, as history and track record have shown, are completely incapable of not only building a functioning civilization, they are completely incapable of maintaining a functioning one when they get their hands on the steering wheel.

Hey Field...Have you decided what position your gonna take on the O's speech tonight?

Its time to focus on another long drawn out war...

You already know my position on the matter...

Check out what our friend Glen Ford has to say about it...

So, as an update, it's now become quite clear, and it will becoming more clear in the next few days, that the U.S. is going to try to turn this anti-ISIS campaign--a campaign that President Obama seems physically very uncomfortable with, for some very fundamental reasons--they're going to try to turn this anti-ISIS military campaign into a renewed war against the Syrian government. And he has already telegraphed that it will be a long war. Long wars mean very expensive wars. He says it will be a three-year campaign. In short, under the guise of taking the war against ISIS, this air war against ISIS, deep into Syria, the U.S. is going to attempt to become the air force for those so-called moderate Syrian rebels, forces that actually don't exist, but become an air force for them as the United States and its NATO allies did for the jihadists in Libya three years ago.

And to create this force on the ground that actually does not exist in terms of moderates, the United States wants to give those folks these imaginary people. I'm sure that they will somehow appear if the United States gives them the $500 million that Obama has set aside for them pending congressional approval.
