The thing you have to understand about Donald Trump is that he is considered a celebrity. And Americans, for better or for worse, just love their celebrities.
Those thousands of people who go to see him on the campaign trail could care less about his views about immigration, minimum wage, or the crisis in the Middle East. They don't care what he has to say, as long as he shows up and they can get a glimpse of the host of The Apprentice, they are satisfied.
This of course, for Mr. Trump, is a good thing, because as political speeches goes he never quite delivers. It's more play the dozens with my opponents and smile for the camera than it is about the nuts and bolts of actual policy and issues.
Herman Cain (bless his pizza loving heart) brought out Trump in Georgia, recently, and the crowd ate it up. Mr. 999 and the billionaire. What a team!
I wonder if this will help him with "the blacks" (as he likes to call us). I seriously doubt it. Mr. 999 was not exactly our cup of tea.
Still, Trump will have to get some of "the blacks" to vote for him if he wants to win. Lord knows that he will not be getting any of the Hispanic vote. He says that he will, but that is more about Trump being delusional in his thinking than the reality of what is actually taking place with the electorate.
Anyway, the pundits have been saying for months that Trump will crash and burn, but so far he has been proving them all wrong.
Poor Jeb and company must be kicking themselves and wondering what happened.
Well, besides that last name, he has no star power going for him. This is true of all the other candidates as well. They are merely bit players in Trump's political show. He is Gladys Knight and they are the Pips.
"He [Rubio] sweats more than any young person I've ever seen in my life. ... I've never seen a guy down water like he downs water. ... They bring it in buckets for this guy."
No fair. Gladys would have been a lot nicer.

I missed your point in this post. Was there one?
Technically, it's Donald and the fourteen dwarfs.
That rogues gallery picture of the candidates you posted includes Rick Perry, who has already dropped out, and does not include John Kasich and Jim Gilmore, who have not yet dropped out (although I have no idea why not, as neither of them appears likely to make it out of the bottom polling ranks).
Yeah, America's obsession with celebrity needs to be cooled the hell down. I mean, whoever wins in '16 will be replacing a guy only elected for two terms because of his cool-guy demeanor celeb status. Enough of electing people just because they're good celebrities.
As for that picture, it's scary. I see evolution deniers, guys whose grasp of science makes PC look moderately smart, anti-gay bigots, theocrats in training, horrible and horrid businesspeople, career charlatans whose idea of good government is winning elections, and at least four guys whose policies would be indiscernible from 1715. (Perry, Santorum, Huckabbe and Cruz).
All Hillary needs to win is for this picture to be shown daily. Not that she'd be any better, but some of these Republican candidates are just painfully ignorant. I like Ben Carson (assuming he's not a batshit YEC), and I think Christie is decent, but only juxtaposed against the rest. Cruz, Bush, Fiorina, Graham, Huckabee, Jindal, Perry, Rubio, Santorum, Trump -- I worry for the world. (And full disclosure: I haven't the faintest fucking idea who that guy is between Jindal and Ryan. Dafuq?)
@ Anon #1 -
Feeled never really has much of a point. He just likes to point out instances of perceived "injustice" against "people of color". I guess he's hoping it will inspire a few more Vester Flanagans and Chris Mercers.
That'd really make his day, I think.
Hillary won't be as bad as you are fearing, if for no other reason than she won't ruin the Supreme Court and pack the government full of appointees hell bent on destroying it, like anyone in that picture surely would. Opus the Penguin and Bill the Cat would make a better administration than at least half of those idiots.
Look at it this way: you get to keep on hating the president for eight more years, and it seems like you really like doing that.

Of the 14 people in the pic, he's the only one that looks sane! Of course many Hispanics will vote for him. There are many Republican Hispanics.
Lilac, you are exactly correct. Many Hispanics WILL vote for Trump. Just because Field thinks they won't doesn't make it reality. Sometimes I think Field is the one who is delusional.
But he has never been politically smart anyway. But neither have the Democrats.
One thing Trump has going for him is that his competition is pitiful. He says we should sit back and watch the Russians bomb ISIS. Most of the rest want us to defend ISIS. Obama may have done as much damage as George Bush by supporting terrorism in Syria and Libya. Rand Paul has been talking about us arming and training ISIS' friends for quite some time and Putin recently called Obama out on it. Hillary is a war monger. She voted to authorize the Iraq War even though the general who oversaw the destruction of Iraq's WMDs defected and told us about it when her husband was president. Then there's her "brainstorming" what if we give Israel the green light to attack Iran. Bernie Sanders says he's against war but he always votes to fund it.
There's Jeb Bush who signed the PNAC call for a new Pearl Harbor and got it after he stole the 2000 election. Lindsey Graham was the only one who kept looking down at his notes in the first debate and all he had to say was attack Iran. We support ISIS because we are allies with Saudi Arabia. It's not a co-incidence that ISIS fights countries that our ally Saudi Arabia fears are too friendly with Iran. Just as it isn't a co-incidence that bin Laden and the 9/11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, or that the still classified 28 pages of the 9/11 Commission Report are about Saudi involvement in 9/11 according to people who were allowed to read them. Or that Saudis were flown out of the U.S. after 9/11 while all other planes were grounded. Or that the extremist Wahhabi Muslim sect that indoctrinates the terrorists is from Saudi Arabia.
By contrast, a million people went out with candles in Iran to protest the 2001 9/11 attack. After Reagan bribed Khomeini to not release the American hostages while Carter was president, 96% of the Iranian voters voted for presidential candidates who wanted the hostages released. Someone in the administration of guy who won that election was even killed trying to release them. Iran has a large population of young people who want American music and blue jeans. There are a lot of other cultural differences too. It is legal for non Muslims to drink alcohol in Iran. Foreigners have been sentenced to 500 lashes for drinking in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has beheaded almost twice as many people as ISIS this year. Sometimes people are sentenced to have their headless bodies crucified in public. A kid who protested for democracy is currently sentenced to this fate. The real axis of evil is the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Israel.
Most of the candidates probably have some kind of realization that they support the wrong side out of greed and to get approval of the media and sheep. But not Rubio. He's really that stupid.
Probably the only way to get our jobs back is tariffs, like Trump says. If you watch a full speech on Youtube, he doesn't sound as bad as the media portrays him. So far, I'd say that Sanders and Paul might be the only two who are definitely better than Trump. And I don't expect either of them to prosecute war crimes or have a real 9/11 investigation. Quite a few of the candidates are worse than Trump. And we've sure had some terrible presidents. LBJ lied about the Gulf of Tonkin and covered up the U.S.S Liberty false flag attack. Reagan had his treasonous coup deal for Iran to not release the hostages while Carter was president. And he gave us Reaganomics. Bill Clinton signed NAFTA letting all the jobs go overseas and he repealed the Glass Steagall Act which caused the banking crisis economic collapse. And he allowed the media to consolidate down to fascist level so we don't even know how bad we get screwed. Obama doomed us to be lied in to war again by protecting the Bush Administration war criminals. Then he caused a humanitarian disaster in the Middle East by supporting "good terrorists". And now he's working on the TPP.
As for that picture, it's scary. I see evolution deniers, guys whose grasp of reality and logic make Josh look moderately smart, anti-gay bigots, theocrats in training, horrible and horrid businesspeople, career charlatans whose idea of good government is winning elections, and at least four guys whose policies would be indiscernible from 1715. (Perry, Santorum, Huckabbe and Cruz).
Dumbocrat debate tonight.
Will any dumbocrat run on Obama's record?
Or will dumbocrats do as rethugs did in 2008 and distance themselves from the sitting president.
A Likely Debate Highlight: Democrats’ Distance From Obama
...
“It is an existential moment,” said Jon Cowan, a former Bill Clinton administration official who is now president of the centrist think tank Third Way. “If you stand back far enough entering this debate,” he added, “you’ll see the Democratic Party they’re asking to lead, and there’s no question it has moved to the left.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/12/us/politics/democrats-debate-obama-legacy-hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders.html?smid=pl-share
Of course the dumbocrat party has moved to the left.
All the moderate dumbocrats (Blue Dog Dumbocrats) have all been voted out and replaced with rethugs.
Dumbocrats have moved so far left how much of the clinton agenda would still be acceptable today?
DefenseOfMarriageAct, tough on crime, tough on drugs, Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act (welfare reform), NAFTA, Don'tAskDon'tTell, IraqLiberationActOf1998, ReligiousFreedomRestoration Act, Telecommunications Act1996 (deregulating telecommunications), Financial ServicesModernizationAct1999 (deregulating), Repeal of Glass-Steagall, Federal spending 19.8% of GDP.
"Dumbocrats have moved so far left how much of the clinton agenda would still be acceptable today?"
Hopefully, a lot of it wouldn't be.
The Clinton administration was a quasi-Republican administration run by a Democrat. It was a matter of Clinton and other Democratic politicians, in many cases, holding their noses and passing policies that they knew were bad, simply so they could remain in power during a moment when the country was in a conservative mood.
NAFTA, the repeal of Glass-Steagall financial regulations, welfare reform, and so-called "tough-on-crime" justice system policies were all fucking stupid right-wing ideas that Clinton signed off on. All of them have worked out disastrously in one way or another.
Clinton himself has already admitted a couple of these were giant mistakes (Glass-Steagall, his crime policies). As it is, the Democrats haven't remotely gotten back leftwards to where they were on most of these issues in the early '70s, not by a long shot.
Meanwhile, Republicans march ever more rightward and become progressively more unhinged and destructive. At this point, they aren't a party of governance at all -- they're a party of nihilistic vandals devoted exclusively to posturing (voting 50+ times to repeal Obamacare, anyone?), cooking up fake scandals to use against Democrats, and sabotaging the daily operation of government.
"Will any dumbocrat run on Obama's record?"
Why would they?
Obama is a Conservative, Bernie Saunders is a just-about-left-of-centre neo-Socialist and Clinton hates Obama's guts.

@ Purple Cow
Drew P. Weiner has my vote.
That is one of the actual "candidates" who has registered with our Federal Election Commission.
Does anyone know if this thing is going to be live streamed online?
@ lilac
You can watch the Democratic debate tonight at 8:30 PM Eastern Time on CNN.com
For the next gathering of the Republican fruitcakes and crap weasels, you'll have to wait until Oct. 28.
I don't have satellite or cable service. I do have internet, barely :) because the politics here have sunk the economy to depths never before seen! It's all we can do to keep our heads above water here!
As a matter of fact now that I mention water, that's their favorite way of taking another bite out of our pockets! An added yoooooge ;) charge to the water bill that no one can explain or knows what it's for but, ya gotta pay! Nice...
lilacpr2000 The CNN website says the debate will be live streamed online, on CNNgo. And I can't imagine that it won't be on Youtube soon after it is over.
Thanks Limpbaugh!
I want to watch it live as it happens because after, everyone has already commented on it and I dunno, kinda takes the fun out of it ya know :) Thanks!

Sounds like Obamaholics...Obama built a cult of personality. And it worked. Twice.
So why wouldn't Trump attempt the same????
It was Gruber warned us not to underestimate the stupidity of the American voter....

You do realize by hanging on to leftwing conspiracies that have been debunked by numerous investigations-many done by the left-you and your ilk rob the person that deserves the most credit for getting the hostages released-Jimmy Carter.
"And he gave us Reaganomics'
Thank God he did. More Americans have benefited more from Reaganomics than Obamanomics.
"Thank God he did. More Americans have benefited more from Reaganomics than Obamanomics."
You and I won't be alive when that particular part of our history is written about, but I suspect that your boy will be on the wrong side of it.
Damn, The Pee-Wee Cow, you're slippin'! You missed an opportunity to say that I'm really the most right-wing, far-far, out-there-on-the-wing-tip right person at Field's, and that I really support all these things.
You were too interested in taking the easy "I'm rubber, you're glue" out, just stealing my shit and reciting it back to me.
I thought it was white folks who stole from black folks -- rock 'n' roll, stomping, hip hop, etc? Apparently it's not so one-sided.
ilacpr2000 I hope I didn't make you miss anything. I'm sorry if I did. I missed a lot waiting for it to start on CNNgo. Then I found it on CNN.COM and later watched it Youtube.
If anybody is interested in Reagan's deal to sell weapons to Iran in exchange for holding the American hostages until after Carter's presidency, there is a lot about it on the consortiumnews website. The Christian Science Monitor also did an interview with Bani Sadr a few years ago that should have been big news. I call it an early start of Iran/Contra, but that website and authors, etc. call it the October Surprise. More evidence, mainly about meetings the Reagan camp held with the Iranians, has come out since the cover up. It's like Nixon sabotaging the Paris Peace talks to defeat Humphrey. I don't know if that is true or not, but Johnson did say it to Everett Dixon on White House tapes that have since been declassified. He told Dixon to warn Nixon that he knew about his treason and he better stop it. Nixon allegedly promised the North Vietnamese a better deal if they waited until he was president. That is essentially what Reagan did with Iran. The Democrat chairman of the Iran/Contra investigation abruptly called the investigation off right when investigators said they need a little more time. He was appointed to co-chair the 9/11 Commission years later. His name is Lee Hamilton. In both cases he made up excuses for why he couldn't get to the truth after his conclusions were questioned. They even had the nerve to put a PNAC member who signed their call for a new Pearl Harbor on the 9/11 Commission. His name is John Lehman. False flags like the Gulf of Tonkin and U.S.S Liberty attack are historical fact now that they have finally been declassified.
Yeah I know LB! :) I just surfed around until I found a stream. Didn't miss a beat. Don't remember right now where but I saw it.
Thanks a mil anyway!
Glad to hear it!
Dear Field,
It's thoughtless and oppressive to draw on an ableist metaphor to ridicule that group of right-wingers. The dominant status, here ability (normal height range), turns a lower status's supposed inferiority (being short physically) into a metaphor to insult other dominant status people.. Like macho men calling other men "girls" to ridicule other men's strength and physical courage with women supposed weakness physical cowardice. Or an able-identified person calling another able person a "moral cripple." Or your headline.
I do love your blog!
