Last night I thought I heard gunfire and thought, wow, it's been a long time since I heard any of that around here.
What I forgot was that this is when the first shipments of illegal Taiwanese fireworks start showing up ahead of the fourth of July, and no dog or cat will get a good nights sleep until the week after the fourth.
Last year OPD and the ACSD put out stern warnings that illegal fireworks would not be tolerated, and the night of the fourth still sounded like a war with cheerleaders.
To me it was sort of startling that I would mistake fireworks for gunfire because for decades I could tell the difference without even trying because I had to.
But for the last five years or so I just haven't heard very much gunfire that I wasn't expecting, so I've sort of lost my radar for it.
