Who is W. Cleon Skousen?

I am really pissed tonight so I am going to probably do a cut and paste job. If I do one of my regular posts I am going to curse too much. I am really trying to cut back on my cursing. Not because of the main stream folks who told me that they would publish and link more of my work if I didn't curse so much. (Fuck them) But because as my blog gets more popular, some of Mrs. Field's acquaintances and co-workers are starting to read it, and she says it embarrasses her when I curse. So there you have it.

Anyway, thanks to Danmell Ndonye, a young woman who cried rape where there was none; (I wonder if all the folks who were defending the Duke boys came to these boys defense up in New York? *crickets*) Rush Limp-boy who wants segregated school buses; (As if we don't have that shit now.) and Joe Wilson's dumb ass son, who doesn't think his daddy is a racist because he doesn't laugh at all those racial["distasteful"] jokes. (Maybe he just doesn't think those racial jokes are funny. Maybe he knows much better racial jokes. I mean who gives a f..-see, there I go again- who cares if he doesn't laugh at some jokes? Since when is how you laugh at a joke a measuring stick for racism? Give me a break! ) I find myself wanting to count to ten every time I start writing.

See why I can't blog tonight? Just one paragraph and my head is already about to explode with all the dumb shit going on in A-merry-ca.

Since I can't write anymore without going all Fred Sanford and getting the "big one", here is an excellent article from Salon.com about one of the people who started silly season here in A-merry-ca:

"By Alexander Zaitchik
Sep. 16, 2009

On Saturday, I spent the afternoon with America's new breed of angry conservative. Up to 75,000 protesters had gathered in Washington on Sept. 12, the day after the eighth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, sporting the now familiar tea-bagger accoutrements of "Don't Tread on Me" T-shirts, Revolutionary War outfits and Obama-the-Joker placards. The male-skewing, nearly all-white throng had come to denounce the president and what they believe is his communist-fascist agenda.

Even if the turnout wasn't the 2 million that some conservatives tried, briefly, to claim, it was still enough to fill the streets near the Capitol. It was also ample testament to the strength of a certain strain of right-wing populist rage and the talking head who has harnessed it. The masses were summoned by Glenn Beck, Fox News host and organizer of the 912 Project, the civic initiative he pulled together six months ago to restore America to the sense of purpose and unity it had felt the day after the towers fell.

In reality, however, the so-called 912ers were summoned to D.C. by the man who changed Beck's life, and that helps explain why the movement is not the nonpartisan lovefest that Beck first sold on air with his trademark tears. Beck has created a massive meet-up for the disaffected, paranoid Palin-ite "death panel" wing of the GOP, those ideologues most susceptible to conspiracy theories and prone to latch on to eccentric distortions of fact in the name of opposing "socialism." In that, they are true disciples of the late W. Cleon Skousen, Beck's favorite writer and the author of the bible of the 9/12 movement, "The 5,000 Year Leap." A once-famous anti-communist "historian," Skousen was too extreme even for the conservative activists of the Goldwater era, but Glenn Beck has now rescued him from the remainder pile of history, and introduced him to a receptive new audience.

Anyone who has followed Beck will recognize the book's title. Beck has been furiously promoting "The 5,000 Year Leap" for the past year, a push that peaked in March when he launched the 912 Project. That month, a new edition of "The 5,000 Year Leap," complete with a laudatory new foreword by none other than Glenn Beck, came out of nowhere to hit No. 1 on Amazon. It remained in the top 15 all summer, holding the No. 1 spot in the government category for months. The book tops Beck's 912 Project "required reading" list, and is routinely sold at 912 Project meetings where guest speakers often use it as their primary source material. At one 912 meet-up I attended in Florida, copies were stacked high on a table against the back wall, available for the 912 nice price of $15. "Don't bother trying to get it at the library," one 912er told me. "The wait list is 40 deep."
What has Beck been pushing on his legions? "Leap," first published in 1981, is a heavily illustrated and factually challenged attempt to explain American history through an unspoken lens of Mormon theology. As such, it is an early entry in the ongoing attempt by the religious right to rewrite history. Fundamentalists want to define the United States as a Christian nation rather than a secular republic, and recasting the Founding Fathers as devout Christians guided by the Bible rather than deists inspired by the French and English philosophers. "Leap" argues that the U.S. Constitution is a godly document above all else, based on natural law, and owes more to the Old and New Testaments than to the secular and radical spirit of the Enlightenment. It lists 28 fundamental beliefs -- based on the sayings and writings of Moses, Jesus, Cicero, John Locke, Montesquieu and Adam Smith -- that Skousen says have resulted in more God-directed progress than was achieved in the previous 5,000 years of every other civilization combined.."

Big H/T to Greg Fuller for turning me on to this article.

Back in the '60s they called these nutcases "John Birchers". They are a lunatic fringe of the population, no more than about 3-5 percent. But they are a loud ass little handful and they have a big megaphone thanks to the Republican Party/Fox Noise channel. I am actually looking roward to them coming out in the Republican primaries and helping Sarah Palin , patron saint of dumbasses everywhere, to win the nomination. This will effectively render the right wing further out into the wilderness in 4 years. Bully for them!

Well, Beck can do what he does and garner followers like Xi because we live in a Christian nation with lots of Christians who think they know Christ but in truth it's their ego talking.

Whenever Christians become involved in politics, trouble isn't too far behind.

@Monie -- In alleged sex crimes like this, I think there needs to be a shield law for both parties that extends until a trial commences at which point the trial judge can decide whether to continue the shield of the accused until after a verdict. The shield wouldn't apply in cases where the suspect was an imminent threat to the community (serial rapist on the loose etc.) and authorities need help apprehending or ID'ing a person of interest. The press could do this on their own as many do now in regards to alleged victims.

I remember when I first saw these kids' faces plastered everywhere and I wondered why on Earth it was national news. Local news, yes but not national. It bothered me then because it seemed weird that this went national and so big. The press acted like they had another Yale case and were about to launch into the hysteria meme of "are our children safe on campus."

This girl needs to be punished** (that's without a doubt) but a shield law for both parties or just a common practice not to publish names of the accused in certain sex based cases until a certain time by news agencies would've prevented this damage to the young men. Waiting until trial or even a set time, would've saved the young men's reputations. Most baseless charges that are thrown out and recants take place before trial.

That said, they're getting enough press now that they'll get a lot of support and help from people.

**One thing on punishing accusers in general... Rape victims and sex crime victims commonly drop charges or refuse to testify because it's often a he said/she said situation and they don't want to go to trial when the odds of winning are minuscule. I think we need to be very careful we don't punish real victims who do decide against going to trial as opposed to fake victims who falsely accuse.

p.s. I live that the Avatars are showing up on the main article comment area now! :)

I agree, a double shield would be a good thing. But in a nation as polarized on so many different fronts as this one is I'm not sure if the (All powerful media giants) would stand for missing opportunities to stir up the muck.

Anonymous said...

@Monie -- You're right but I wish you weren't. They could make just as much of it by publishing all kinds of stuff just without the names. They do it all the time with underage perpetrators and victims. The name of the accused or the alleged victim isn't integral to ratings unless it's a celebrity or politician based story where people are watching or reading just because a celeb or pol did something. Rename all the players in any given novel and the story will be just as good -- you lose some flavor but not so much that a good novel doesn't remain a good novel. But of course, the media giants would rather make something of whatever the backgrounds are so they can stir up some ethnic, racial, gender, or religious etc. tensions. Sad.

This is unfortunate. False rape claims make it difficult for other women who are real victims, especially for black females.

Is this woman pulled her story because she lied beforehand (and not because of threats etc..) then she should be punished by law just the same.

Monie said...

@La♥Incognita

Initially I thought she may have recanted due to some sort of outside pressure, as you allude to. But according to the article there is photographic evidence that supposedly shows she was not forced to have sex.

Former conservative Salt Lake City mayor J. Bracken Lee said of former SLC police chief Skousen,

"The man is a master of half-truths. In at least three instances I have proven him to be a liar. He is a very dangerous man [and] one of the greatest spenders of public funds of anyone who ever served in any capacity in Salt Lake City government."

This also from Wikipedia:

In 1987, controversy erupted in California over the term "pickaninny" used in Skousen's book The Making Of America, when it was considered as a textbook by the National Center for Constitutional Studies.

Sexual violation can represent itself in various ways. I was thinking earlier, why were they taping or taking pics? I doubt she consented.

I wold figure she thought she knew what she was getting into, but then things turned for a twist. (Which would eventually happen when you realize you're outnumbered and not in control of your own body.) A situation like this can confuse a victim in which causes them to flip flop on what they think happened. A rape isn't always traditional in the sense.

You know, most people may wonder why a female would place herself in this situation. But I also wonder why would some males set themselves up, or put themselves in liable situations like this. These boys are not innocent either.

(Also makes you wonder, how should I woman look or act when she's being raped?)

Mr. R you and your other identities are some of the lamest fail trolls I've ever encountered online. The FAIL just never stops and the fact that you keep coming back for more just makes it better. There's nothing more amusing than watching a racist make a fool of himself while he thinks himself smart. Not only are your posts some good ole fashioned hilarious self-inflicted fail (which makes it guilt free for those of us who don't like to pick on the mentally challenged) but they're also quite justifying -- proof that we're fighting the good fight. Just when folks think to themselves 'well maybe it's not race' or 'I guess I've seen so much racism in my life that maybe I'm too quick call it nowadays' you come along to prove everyone's instincts right.

Keep up the good work. It's so nice to see constant proof that (a)contrary to conservative assertions that we're just making it all up racists are very much still out there and (b) racists are sill dumber than a box of rocks.

If there were no cell phone video of the (presumably enthusiastic) participants the woman likely would have stuck to her lie and innocent men would have been convicted.

It's incredible that even after the woman has recanted, video has been stated to show the "exact opposite" of the woman's claims and she is being criminally investigated that some people still want to believe in the possible criminal guilt or bad behavior of the men.

That said I do not understand any man that would want to have sex with a woman while she's having sex with another man or just afterwards. Incredibly disgusting. Sounds pretty freaking dumb too.

But not illegal. As far as putting yourself in a bad situation, that could happen to anyone. There's no foolproof way for a man to protect
himself against false rape allegations, short of not engaging with women at all. Even then, mistaken identity could happen...

Sometimes women lie. Fortunately in this case the lie was caught early. In future job apps will the men have to answer "yes" to the question of "have you ever been arrested?"

Although I think a double shield would be nice, in truth it would not be fair to the public or news media. Someone being arrested is news and people deserve to know.

I'm not Mormon, but I live in Utah, so I know quite a bit about the religion. Mormons have long accepted Blacks as members of their church, but it was in 1978 that Mormon men were "given the priesthood" or allowed to join the exalted ranks. Mormon women of any color cannot be "priests"; Mormon males become priests at age twelve.

As far as I know, Mormons still consider "white and delightsome" skin to be indicative of righteousness, though they don't broadcast this like they used to. They have long held that Black skin is the "mark of Cain" mentioned in the Old Testament.

Damn if only she had more recessive genes and the good sense to be ashamed of being colored and good looking at the same time, you just may throw caution to the wind and might actually to say 'hi' to her one of these days and if she doesn't roll her eyes or neck at you, you've got your foot in the door to continually harass her until she gives it up! Hell, If you actually did do something illegal who would believe her? The court knows she'll lie in a heartbeat because shes black. (end snark)

We're still all meanwhile waiting for that tax in the super rich that lowlife Obama campaigned with. [crickets]

it should piss you off enough to curse their black asses instead cursing me.

There you go again. I cursed you for assuming to speak for me; apparently the irony of your response escapes you. I have no anger toward these young people for their sexual behavior; I make no judgment therein.

btw, I have no problem with lustful. What a silly assumption. Apparently you've pigeonholed me into the "Madonna" slot of your Madonna/Whore dichotomy. Typical.

"There is no doubt what went down that night, no doubt what those boys expected and therefore demanded by force. "

Thats true.Nothing illegal went down that night. No dna evidence,no physical evidence, just many lies and many different stories told by Crystal and her friend.

Those Duke boys told a story that never changed, and they cooperated with the police.

Joseph Smith claimed to have a revelation from the angel (ahem) MORONi who told Joseph where to find the golden plates. These golden plates would be the basis for the Book of Mormon and fortunately for Smith, were buried conveniently close to his home. Of course Smith had to return the golden plates to MORONi so no one else got to see them...

Sounds like Scientology.

Good question. Ask Eldridge Cleaver, Thurl Bailey or Gladys Knight.

But seriously, one of the biggest draws the Mormons have is the concept that families will be together in the afterlife. I think many people find this idea particularly comforting. (Not me--lolz.)

All religions speak of the afterlife. It IS very comforting. Considering you don't believe in the afterlife I guess once you are dead you are dead, right?

Perhaps because you claimed to know how "whites" feel about their children being around Black children. Perhaps because you wear the mantle of male supremacy so comfortably. Perhaps I should have said "What a surprise: an arrogant, sexist man telling me what I should feel." Better?

How do you know I don't believe in the afterlife? The point I was trying to make, which you either missed or ignored, was that Mormons believe that families remain intact in Heaven. I know of no other religion that makes this assertion, which, IMO, has some serious logistical problems. Plus, an eternal family reunion doesn't sound like my idea of paradise.

For the record, regarding the concept of Heaven or an afterlife. . .I'm not convinced based on the evidence so far. However, if I find out differently once I'm dead, I'll be delighted, I'm sure.

RT, "I know of no other religion that makes this assertion, which, IMO, has some serious logistical problems. Plus, an eternal family reunion doesn't sound like my idea of paradise."

You cannot think in terms of earthly logistics, that is absurd. Everything is possible with God. However, you must have faith which is way beyond the earthly self-centered ego. It is clear your 'doubt' is far more powerful than your faith. That's too bad.

@RT "However, if I find out differently once I'm dead, I'll be delighted, I'm sure."

Maybe you will be delighted, and maybe you won't. It depends on your faith and what you have done here on earth. According to all religions, your motives/intentions throughout your life are very important. For instance, are you committed to truth and justice or are you just committed to a group of people, right or wrong? Justice and Truth has no color and how you live your answers to those questions will determine very different outcomes and how you see life. Good luck.

According to all religions, your motives/intentions throughout your life are very important.

Religion doesn't have a monopoly on this, of course. As Einstein asserted, "A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

"For instance, are you committed to truth and justice or are you just committed to a group of people, right or wrong? Justice and Truth has no color"

"Treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity." - Noel Ignatiev.

RT-"Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

You seem to be full of quotes by others. What about your own direct experience to validate Einstein?

Quoting Einstein's 'idealism' and 'hope' for man doesn't change the "fact" that "man IS in a poor way" because his "ethical and moral" behavior, 'sympathy, education, and social ties' are dysfunctional and sorely lacking. American society and rampart racism accelerating across America like wildfire is a fine example that mocks your quote.

In addition, America has the greatest penal and prison system in the world to keep the evil ones in check. America represents just how 'poor in spirit' man is. Re: to your quote of Einstein, the system IS based on man's effort in America to "restrain based on fear of punishment" without any hope of reward. That is what Einstein was trying to convey. But you would have to know about his life and philosophy to know. Finding one of his quotes just to throw something out, doesn't cut it.

Again, Einstein was speaking about what man "should" be, not who he "actually" is. Here's another Einstein quote for you to reflect on:

"I want to know God's thoughts, the rest are just details."

Race Traitoress said...

@Anonymous 6:46

You seem to have a problem with reading comprehension, not to mention a chip on your shoulder.

Let me break it down.

Your point: Religions profess belief in an afterlife/heaven, and of the importance of moral behavior during one's life.

I agree, they do. Religions do that. I agree.

My point: One does not have to be religious to exhibit moral and ethical behavior. I quoted Einstein because he said it better than I.

What's your beef, anyway? I've not made any statements of disrespect toward Mormonism or Christianity as a whole. I agree that racism is rampant, and in fact hold that racism is a product of twisted "white" delusions of superiority.

You seem to be full of quotes by others. What about your own direct experience to validate Einstein?

My "direct experience" consists of the fact that I am a moral and ethical, though not religious, person.

And I'm not so arrogant as to not realize that sometimes someone else says what I'm trying to convey in a more elegant manner.

You're arguing with points I've never made. And other than the apparent fact that you are a person of faith, and I'm not, I don't even see where we disagree substantially.

Whatev.

Anonymous said...

RT you sound quite angry. You don't handle conflict so well, do you? And what makes you think I am a religious person? First, you assumed that I was White. Now you are assuming that I am a person of faith. But I do agree with some of your premises if that eases your stress any.

As far as your opinion of my problematic reading comprehension and my arrogance, that's YOUR opinion and that is what YOU see. You might be right- but not everyone can be as bright as you think you are.

That's just the way life works: no two human beings are the same and the human race is full varying intelligence and consciousness.

However, it's nothing to get your backsides out of whack because a person like myself doesn't match your intelligence or doesn't behave according to your personal way of life. I recommend you discuss this matter with the Creator and tell HIM you don't like some of HIS works.

As far as you accusing me of being "arrogant", you might want to take a good look in the mirror at yourself. Imho, what you see in me, you still have yet to recognize in yourself.
