Norman and friends.

Tonight I would like to show the wingnuts that they are wrong about me for thinking that I would never feature a kook from the left. Well, I have found one, and he is my home boy no less.

Yes my friends, Norman Laboon (What a name. No wonder the guy is nuts.) probably should go to jail for allegedly threatening to kill minority whip, Eric Cantor. Still, I want my wingnut friends to understand something; Norman Laboon, is, in fact, certifiable. His antenna doesn't quite pick up all the channels.

"He was mandated by the Federal Magistrate to undergo a mental health evaluation. He reportedly told arresting FBI agents that he was the "Son of the God of Enoch". Leboon was a frequent poster to Youtube, where his rambling videos could be watched. During one such video he recorded with a cell phone video camera, Leboon, said that Congressman Cantor would receive his bullets in his office in his head". He also called the congressman a pig and referred to him as "pure evil".

Easy there Norman, I am no fan of the GOP myself, but this is a bit much. Just stay on your meds there big fellow. Now if my wingnut friends are willing to say that their extremist all have mental problems as well, we might be able to find some common ground. But somehow I am guessing that they won't. I bet that they all still think that people like Beck, Rush, Sarah, and the entire crew over at Radio Rwanda are sane.

So unfortunately we are back to square one.

Anyway, let me leave you with what some wingnuts over at another website -let's just call them friends of Norman- are saying about the kid. I swear that we are all so misunderstood here in the fields.

There’s a blog by a black criminal defense attorney called “Field Negro”.His Sat the 27th entry talks about his visit to the County jail and the legacy of what is going on in the black community. There’s lots of bemoaning of what is going on in the black underclass, but they can’t seem to connect the dots that the crime, missing fathers, etc is ALL related back to the welfare dependency cycle.
So they have this whole never ending pity party about what ails their community, rooted in dependency, while celebrating the expansion of government entitlement programs, which will breed yet more dependency.
It boggles the mind.
http://field-negro.blogspot.com/ [at least he/she got the link right]

crystal Says: March 28, 2010 at 10:51 pm
Thanks for the link. I agree…it’s INSANE to not connect the dots, as you said.

emjem24 Says: March 29, 2010 at 4:25 am
I took a look at this blog and it’s a pretty crappy blog. More about passing the buck than taking responsibility for their own actions. It was sad to see.
Then there were the token “wingnut” references, militias are bad but we won’t talk about that gang problem in America stuff. Or, people got conned by former President Bush but nope, not us poor black Americans who’ve been pawned by the Dem establishment, including civil rights race baiters, for the past 40 years. Nope, not a problem at all.
This blog is another example of what the mindset is for most blacks, be they poor, middle class, or rich. Republicans bad, Dems good. Dems will keep us in the style of dependency in which we’re accustomed and those mean Repubs will take away everything and make us work. Wah!
How pathetic.

crystal Says: March 29, 2010 at 7:39 am
I saw that. the only truth he spoke was about the cycle of fatherless homes-crime-poverty, etc. Another example of educated blacks who are woefully ignorant of the truth. This is what saddens me so much. It’s a huge mountain.

YTZ4Me Says: March 29, 2010 at 10:13 am
Emjem:I never said it was a “good” blog ;), I just think it’s instructive to see what we’re up against. I also found it interesting that they screech about “tolerance” but refuse to consider anything outside of their rigidly held viewpoint.
It was also interesting to me that they are ALL terrified of the push to less federal government, and more states rights.
Very sad that over 150 years after the official end of slavery, they are all afraid of real freedom.Including the freedom to try and fail.
Lots of folks big on the “equal outcome” mantra over there.

emjem24 Says: March 29, 2010 at 2:56 pm
YTZ:
I had a funny feeling I wasn’t going to like this “blog.” :) After living in a black community in SE VA for 3 years, and the way they treat white people, this blog just reconfirms everything that has become increasingly apparent about many blacks:
That they don’t want to do anything to improve or tackle the problems in their community.
They want to blame everybody but themselves for what’s going on.
They tarnish black Republicans as sellouts and traitors because they want to break away from the dependency that Dems offer blacks.
Federal dependency is an entitlement that is strictly reserved for black people. Because blacks were slaves a long, long time ago, and didn’t have “equal” rights until 40 years ago that means they don’t have to rise to the challenge of opportunity in this country.
It just makes me so sad that people like this blog guy are so full of hate toward white and those who criticize blacks, but he can’t look at the blemishes in his own soul or that of his community."

"THEY" ?....... I think some of my black conservative friends might have found a new home. That's if they can tear themselves out of the Bondage Clubs long enough.

Where have you ever said anything about not taking responsibility for our problems? Since when have you mentioned anything about being entitled? People like the ones that left those comments behind the privacy of their keyboards, just like all the anon commentors that frequent here on the regular, are cowards. These are the same people that when fronted about their ignorance and hate always say, ' I am not racist. I have Black Friends.' But when they are around other cowards like them, their nuts swell. As long as there are people like this in this "god-fearing and christian" country that think like this, there will always be a Black and White problem. And they wonder why we act the way we do. If any race feels entitled in this "land of the free" it ain't us. Sure we have our problems. Problems that will not be solved by anybody but us, but feeling entitled? Come on Son. It is people like those assholes that sometimes make me ashamed to even call myself an American.

Field you stopped too soon there was some really wild stuff on that site check this conversation out;

"She stated the same … that all the $$ she had made while working, she put into a self-funded IRA for herself and into college funds for their kids, because they believe in being self-reliant. Both are decimated and worth only about 30% of their prior value, yet the financial aid people told her they didn’t for any assistance for their kids going to college. She is FURIOUS in the double standards and the policies against hardworking, middle income WHITE Americans. And she quit work and their income & standard of living went up as well, how she’s enjoying being home, everyone is happier, more relaxed, etc. She laughed when I said I was “going Galt” and stated that was EXACTLY her same philosophy.

Then, a guy BEHIND me in line chimed in with the same thing, how biased the progressive tax system is, and the whole gaming AGAINST middle class WHITE America. I guess our voices started getting louder and more vigorous, because the cashier (an older black lady) started looking alarmed.

I turned to her and apologized and said, “I’m sorry, we just really don’t like Obama and where his policies are taking the country”, and she said, “I can see that”.

Field I really don't get where they get this stuff about policies just aimed at "white middle class" people. You know they tey are always talking about black folks playing the victim and talking about race (cause we're experiencing racism) and having a chip on our shoulders.

But don't these folks sound paranoid and like they are playing the victim. And notice how there is no complaint about the market that ripped off her IRA.

Field do you think they know the definition of "Irony." They complain about black folks not considering anything outside of their "rigidly held viewpoint "and in the very next sentences they go on to explain what they believe black folks think. And so from their "rigidly held viewpoint" "all"black folks are afraid of real freedom.

And not only that they ignore the very significant history of Jim Crow in the US because they really don't know what States Rights mean historically for black folks.

And they are so ignorant of history they don't know it was states rights that undermined the newly freed slaves and put returned them in a kind of neo-slavery. It was individual southern states that invoked black codes and took away the civil rights that blacks had gained right after the civil war (Reconstruction) up until the 1880's when just about all the Southern states passed different forms of black codes, which essentially made it legal to discriminate against blacks in employment, education and every other area.

It was a classic divide and rule. And black folks spent years mired in second class citizenship and they play off all that brutality, angst, hurt, degradation and violence with a shrug.

Everyone should read the history of Reconstruction. W E B Dubois has an excellent book on it, and Eric Foner's is equally good its called "Reconstruction: America's Unfinished Revolution 1863-1877.
My guess is some folks don't know that we secured the right to vote not long after the Civil War and black folks put to use. In South Carolina their were two black Senators Hiram Revels and the other I think was Branche Bunche.

And to think some black folks want to play footsy with these folks.

In my years of activism, I have encountered what most folks would agree were the "radical left." Most are self described anti-capitalist anarchists. I have been at demonstrations where they have engaged in property destruction... I have heard them chant, "No Justice, No Peace." But, in all of those years, I have never attended a meeting, or heard a conversation over beers, or read a screed by these folks that called for the murder, especially murder as a tool to cause an uprising...

And, unlike the far right, we on the left have for decades planned our actions by prepping people in nonviolent direct action. We have debated the merits of property destruction, not all of us agreeing one way or the other.... but when we planned on taking to the streets, it was agreed by all that we would do no harm to other human beings...

This guy, while he may have agreed with "the left".... was not a part of the left movement in the philly area.

Teabaggers are the mainstream of the Republican Party.

Nativists are the mainstream of the Republican Party.

Randers are the mainstream of the Republican Party.

One of the things which makes me angriest lately is the claim from the far right about some moral equivalency between the behavior of those protesting the passage of the health care bill and those on the left. Whenever a member of the right is asked about the behavior of the tea partiers he will say that what has happened on both sides is objectionable. It is not true. The tea party crowd holds up racist signs and signs advocating of violence at its rallies. They yell racial epithets at black congressmen and homophobic epithets at Barney Frank. A member of the far right even cut a gas line to the home of the brother of a congressman whose address was given over the web as the congressman's home. The far right is supposed to be the party that accepts responsibility. Why can't they say "yes, we are to blame", instead of trying to shift blame to the left as well? It is just another example of their hypocrisy.

Could you do that since you clearly want to be part of the discussion. I just like to have an idea of who I am talking to so I don't confuse you with anyone else.

Now lets talk about blood spilled by class society. And you are right about Stalin and Mao and to a lesser extent Kim but Castro has not spilled any blood besides that which was spilled in their revolution.

So lets talk brutality and blood shed by class society lets just start with early capitalism and just a few holocausts

Slave trade/African holocaust - conservative estimates are 20 million Africans died on the voyage and after they arrived in the New World

indegenous indians- the would be capitalist killed so many that Historians can't agree on the numbers but it was in the millions

Africans Indian(India) Colonialist butchered millions of African and Asians in their quest for new markets and in their efforts to subjugate and make docile the indigenous populations.

Internecine struggles between capitalist powers WWI and WWII - in the struggle for capitalist hegemony tens and millions of human beings were killed

WWII Holocaust - 6 million Jews and another 2 million Gypsys, slavs, Russians, Poles and unionists, radicals, gays, disabled children and church men, and other dissenters of Nazi(capitalist) Germany.

SO LETS TALK BLOODSHED

You really don't want to go there. And just because folks dream of a better society they don't have to be talking Utopia and they don't have to wind up creating more problems than they tried to solve.

But what's so wrong with trying to come up with something in which everyone can get a piece of the pie.

Lets face it everyone seems to be dissatisfied with what we have now.

Mell: "but Castro has not spilled any blood besides that which was spilled in their revolution."

Are you kidding? Within three months of his entry into Havana, Castro's firing squads had murdered an estimated 600-1,100 men and boys, and Cuba's jails held ten times the number of political prisoners as under Fulgencio Batista, who Castro overthrew with claims to "liberating" Cuba.

Castro's chief executioner, Che Guevara, seemed to really enjoy his job. A Cuban prosecutor of the time who quickly defected in horror and disgust named Jose Vilasuso estimates that Che signed 400 death warrants the first few months of his command in La Cabana. A Basque priest named Iaki de Aspiazu, who was often on hand to perform confessions and last rites, says Che personally ordered 700 executions by firing squad during the period. Cuban journalist Luis Ortega, who knew Che as early as 1954, writes in his book Yo Soy El Che! that Guevara sent 1,897 men to the firing squad.

By the end of 1965, eighteen thousand bodies would eventually be interred in mass graves. This tally comes -- not from some Cuban-exile scandal sheet in Miami -- but from The Black Book of Communism, written by French scholars and translated into English by the Harvard University press, not exactly an outpost of the vast right-wing conspiracy.

Cuba's population in 1960 was 6.2 million. According to the human Rights group Freedom House, 500,000 Cubans (young and old, male and female) have passed through Castro's prison camps. At one time during 1961-62, 300,000 Cubans were jailed for political offenses islandwide. This makes Castro's political incarceration rate higher than Stalin's and Hitler's.

Good point. But you have to understand that when people are preaching communism they are not talking about the bastardized version practiced by Mao,Stalin, or, Pol Pot

I know you are going to say I am being semantic. But not at all. Socialism as an ideal actually is a good idea. I mean the idea of taking from everyone according to their abilities and giving to folks based on their need is actually a good idea.

The point of socialism/communism is that everyone would be owners of society and owners of the productive forces of society and not big business and the banks which run society for profit and not people.

Most of the folks that I have known and know, that have advocated this have been good folks who really did care that folks were sleeping in the streets and that poor children didn't get the same opportunity as rich kids. They really do want to see an end to racism and sexism and homophobia and all the things that divide folks making it easier to be exploited by the captains of industry.

They believe that if a man goes to work he ought to get back what he puts in and not some piddling that he gets now that doesn't allow him to feed his family.

They believe that if a human being gets sick he ought to be able to go to the hospital and not have to go broke. They believe that we could all pay into a system so that we all could benefit. Hell the capitalist are even doing that in Canada and most of Europe, even they saw the societal benefit in providing health care for all.

You get my point you can't blame the rogue versions on the real thing. It still holds some good ideas and Marx is still right on in his critique of capitalism.

In fact we are seeing the results of what he said was the problem of class society

Anon you are funny! Where did you find this?

That's not the Che of history. Its not the Che I came to admire.

You know what brother anon who knows, he may have said this at one point, I have no way of knowing. I do know that I have read two books on him and one by someone who wasn't particularly fond of him and I didn't run across this quote.

But even if he said that, he didn't say anything like that after he became a revolutionary and saw the light. He didn't have that opinion when he was in the mountains surrounded by black Cubans who were gladly risking their lives for a new Cuba without second class citizenship.

The important thing is not where you start, but where you end up. It's why I bother going back and forth with you.

I think you are probably a decent human being. And I don't think you would deny a fellow human being help if they needed it. I say lets make a society like that. If you work you eat you get a roof over your head, you get educated and you get health care. All things they have in the little Third World country across the way called Cuba. You can look it up and I am sure you have.

I worked a job once with a guy who used to get pissed at me for beating up on "his" company. I was a union rep and preached solidarity and he was an old redneck that believed you just did what the bosses said.

Well by the time I left the job we had become fast freinds working together to bring our co-workers together women and men to keep the company from abusing us. He actually apologized to me for calling me names behind my back and we spent time after work together.

BTW Che also said that, "at the risk of sounding sentimental I believe that a revolutionary has to be motivated by great feelings of love."

Che- the doctor from Argentina- by the time he was murdered, was loved much by all Cubans black, white and yes Castillian and he loved them too!!

Mell; How come the "rogue versions" are all we have? If every example winds up being "bastardized", there must be something inherent in Marxism that leads to this end.

"the idea of taking from everyone according to their abilities and giving to folks based on their need is actually a good idea."

Who takes? Who decides who has too much? Is it OK for the "takers" to take a little extra for their efforts? These enterprises quickly get out of hand. It is a much wiser and prosperous course of action to guarentee people their personal liberty.

The point of socialism/communism is that everyone would be owners of society, but it always turns out they become slaves instead.

Post-war European socialism has created a nice life for a lot of people. This was made possible in part by America covering their security needs and in part by the great wealth of these countries, wealth built (or stolen, depending on your perspective) by previous generations. But this is starting to come to an end. They didn't bother to have enough children to keep the system going. There is no way the shrinking working age population can support the growing retired population. Now we want to go that way too? Guess what, the government can promise you all they want, but there is no way it can deliver 10 or 20 years down the road.

I care about people sleeping n the streets and poor kids without opportunity, that why I don;t want to see this country turned into France with bad food.

While I do sometimes bemoan your advocacy of larger government programmes, FN, I KNOW that your heart is in the right place and that you are a force in your community. Then they start saying that you are just another educated but clueless Black man?!!! They've got a lot of nerve. But it's t he same old same old shit; people think they've got us all figured out and reduce the complexity of our issues to a few bullshit talking points.

It just goes to show their prejudice and racism.

pages 16, 164-68.

His version of the quote is slightly different:

"The Negro is indolent and spends his money on frivolities, whereas the European is forward-looking, organized and intelligent... We're going to do for blacks exactly what blacks did for the Cuban revolution. By which I mean: nothing!”

Fontova also notes that today the prison population in Stalinist/Apartheid Cuba is 90% black while only 9% of the ruling Stalinist party is black.

Good point but we both know a little belt tightening on the part of the folks who were feasting at the corporate welfare trough could have helped stem this tide.

We also know that the defense budget which is another trough for some big suey's in the Defense contracting industry could have been cut back.

Right below what Field posted one young lady was applauding a young black marine because he made out of the hood and said everyone else was lazy.

And he made it out (his idea of making it out was to enlist in the Marines and go and kill some other folks who have been ghettoized) and pointed out that while he voted for Obama this time because he is black, he should have voted as a marine and voted for the veteran.

Fontova has a personal grudge against the Cuban gov't with his father who was a former corrupt beaureaucrat was jailed in the early stages of the Cuban Revolution.

This is propaganda and you know it. You are getting your countries mixed up again Aparthied better applies to that fake Democracy that resides in Afro-Asia.

Have nice dreams Mellaneous. I used to blog with a very conservative crowd and learned quite a bit while do so. As one of my not so favorite bloggers likes to say "Conservatism is an identity politic". It is true; people identify with a certain aspect of WASPness then they are 'conservative'. When you point out that the NOI has a similar conservative message of self help, pulling up by bootstraps etc, the NOI is racist and they've done nothing good DESPITE the similarities in their rhetoric.

They talk about ghetto welfare queens but the truth is that more whites are on welfare then anyone else because they are the majority population in our country.

They are quick to lambast the Black man and the Black family ala old Moynihan arguments. Then they look at Ms. Barber and believe that some Blacks sanction hatred against their own kind.

They need to stop with that bullshit. Whenever I see someone who the only Blacks they like are Shelby Steele, Jesse Lee Peterson, Lashawn Barber and the like, I get nervous and don't want to really engage them because they've chosen to interact with Blacks who corroborate their twisted worldviews.

Anon this is a review written by Micheal Casey on Fontova's hachet job.

"Casey describes Fontova's prose as a marriage of Ann Coulter with the Gonzo journalism of Hunter S. Thompson, remarking that "he basically yells at his readers, mixing a sarcastic wit with a touch of self-deprecation until it is overwhelmed by disdain for his opponents."

Lastly, Casey observes that Fontova often "lathers himself into a rage" when it comes to the issue of Che Guevara, noting that his barrage of hyperbole leads him to describe Guevara as an "assassin", "sadist", "bumbler", "fool", and "whimpering-sniveling-blubbering coward" who is "revered by millions of imbeciles."

Other invective descriptions that Fontova often lobs against Guevara is that he was "shallow""boorish",
"epically stupid", and "a fraud"; whom Fontova considers to be a "murdering swine", an "intellectual vacuum", and an "insufferable Argentine jackass."

Sounds like one of the other anons when he comes on attacking folks.

As to the gist of this post...Seeing all the comments about how the militia people are nut jobs and yada yada yada...I dunno. I hate cops; I really really really do. The people that tend to become cops have authoritarian complexes and sometimes can be sadistic, and this seems irrespective of their racial or ethnic backgrounds. Last year sometime in Spring I was pulled over for allegedly speeding, with my baby and dog in the car and the police officer pulled a gun on me.

Frankly if police officers are to protect and serve, then he was waaaaay out of line. Police officers should not have the power to pull over defenseless people and spiritually as well as physically torture them. Pulling a gun on a new mother with a baby and a dog in the car is torture both mental and spiritual.

I know I am not supposed to carry hatred in my heart, but frankly the fact that these militia people were plotting against cops did not turn me off to them...For some brief moment in time I cheered their mission then snapped back into reality.

Anger and a sense of hopelessness in a fucked up world are the things that could motivate a person to join a militia group. I am truly surprised there aren't more BLACK paramilitary organizations out there, given our contentious history with law enforcement historically.

I have to admit that NWA sounds sweeter to me each time I think of police officers:

Mell: And if you don't care for Fontova quoting Che, here's Che on Che.

In his diaries he details a story from 1957 – before he had any command authority – when he volunteered to accompany Eutimio Guerra (Castro’s personal bodyguard), who had been ordered to execute a rebellious peasant. When alone with Guevara and the peasant, Guerra hesitated. Seeing this, Guevara drew his own pistol and performed the execution without reserve. In his diaries, ‘Che’ describes the peasant’s death:

“He went into convulsions for a while and was finally still. Now his belongings were mine.”

Kind of sums up socialism rather succinctly.

Shortly afterward, Guevara’s father received the following message: “I’d like to confess, papa, at that moment I discovered that I really like killing.”

And kill he did. Throughout his career as Fidel Castro’s underling in post-Batista Cuba, Guevara personally ordered the executions of between 1500 and 2000 people. (In an interview with a CIA agent shortly before his execution, he put the number at “several thousand,” though they were “all CIA agents and spies,” of course.)

I guess that's what it takes to be an icon of the left and get your face on millions of cool t-shirts.

As Democrats, after a Sunday rally on the Capitol grounds, marched to the House hand-in-hand to vote for health-care reform, tea partiers reportedly shouted the "N-word" at John Lewis and another black congressman. A third was allegedly spat upon. And Barney Frank was called a nasty name.

Tea partiers deny it all. And neither audio nor video of this alleged incident has been produced, though TV cameras and voice recorders were everywhere on the Hill.

Other Democrats say their offices were vandalized and they've been threatened. A few received, and eagerly played for cable TV, obscene phone calls they got.

If true, this is crude and inexcusable behavior. And any threat should be investigated. But Democrats are also exploiting these real, imaginary or hoked-up slurs to portray themselves as political martyrs and to smear opponents as racists and bigots.

This is the politics of desperation.

The "mass hysteria" of the tea-party right, writes Rich, is at root about race. "By 2012 ... non-Hispanic white births will be in the minority. The tea party is virtually all white. ... Their anxieties about a rapidly changing America are well-grounded."

Rich is implying that when America's white majority disappears, in 2042 according to 2008 Census Bureau projections, the day of the white conservative is over.

Given the rise in ethnic consciousness among all Americans, Rich may be right. But it is not just white folks who want illegal aliens deported and legal immigration curtailed, while 25 million of our own are out of work or underemployed.

A Zogby poll for the Center for Immigration Studies found that 56 percent of Hispanics, 57 percent of Asian-Americans and 68 percent of African-Americans think legal immigration is too high.

If the tea-party folks think it is leftist elites who detest and wish to be rid of the America they grew up in and love, they are right

Actually it doesn't anon. Socialism is about making sure that every one can eat, have a roof over their head, making sure that all children not just rich children have a chance to reach their full potential, by providing quality education for all and equal opportunity for all, its about making sure they receive a fair wage for a fair days work, celebrating motherhood, and fatherhood, celebrating humanity whether they are white, black, indian, asian, male, female

Ultimately its about allow human beings to be fully human.

Like I tell some other folks because you make things up doesn't make it the truth.

There is a whole body of literature available that tells you what Socialists think. Whatever you may want to say about them they are not cowards and they are not dishonest they say what they think and don't make crap up.They are not hiding. You can even find some on the internet.

You really don't have to make crap up. This makes for bad dialogue anon. Just say you don't like the ideals of socialism, but come on stop making stuff up it makes you look bad.

I went there for International Woman's Day celebration and had a nice time. The next and last time I went, I took my husband and he is a software engineer. Everybody asked us 'what do you do?' to gauge how down with the cause we were or something. Anyway they gave him shit for working his job! But forget about that a for moment, lets look at this idea of personal liberty.

An individual can not enjoy so-called personal liberty if he/she is part of a group that suffers from discrimination at the hands of a system that is free to do to folks whatever it wants.

Personal liberty is a rich man's term. Check out the UN site on World Hunger and other sites on hunger and poverty in the Third World.

Every hour someone dies from a treatable disease, from hunger, from having consumed bad drinking water.

What they wish for is the chance to eat and to live, what they long for is a real just society in which they have the opportunity to thrive like folks in the so-called first world.

Best post I've read here in a while.

When I read negroes talking this "personal liberty" crapola I don't know whether to laugh or get sick.

Personal liberty was the argument segregationists used to oppose Civil Rights Laws and the Public Accomodations Act.

ie....I have the "personal liberty" not to serve you or sell to you.

Wake up people.

Mahndisa S. Rigmaiden said...

People use personal liberty arguments to justify their own hatred all the time. It doesn't take away from the necessity of free choice and personal liberty in a democratic republic.

I understand Mellaneous's statement that some people preach personal liberty while cosigning with legislation that takes away liberties from another segment in the population. However, if personal choice, liberty and freedom aren't paramount ideals then what should be?

Segregationists were justifying human rights abuses using the cover of personal liberty. However, they disenfranchised Black people from voting and thus took away Black's liberties in so doing. This should not have been tolerated and the federal government stepped in to ensure that the tenants of the Constitution were implemented. And that is what happened.

Personal liberties only go so far when living in a society. You don't have the personal liberty to harm me or mine and I don't have the liberty to harm you either. Personal liberty does not give anyone the right to deprive another of their personal liberties, regarding innate human rights.

The anonymous commenter makes good points because under socialism somebody has to decide how resources are allocated and that decision maker bothers me the most.

I am not championing the oligarchy under which we all live right now. Because it's nothing like the free republic our founding fathers envisioned for us. However, I don't think that radical socialism, the twentieth century version is the answer either.

Mahndisa S. Rigmaiden said...

ACtually NO STEVE. The decision to invade Iraq occurred because of LIES spread by the President's intelligence network. Congress has to declare war in our country and any wars that go on without Congressional approval are illegal. And believe me I am totally against war period. This is because innocents get killed over the choice that some elite assholes make and they don't give a damn about the common man.

The tax cuts ballooned the deficit from a certain perspective. But the tax cuts are the least of our concerns. The government approved a bailout AGAINST THE WISHES OF THE MAJORITY of AMERICANS.

Therefore our rights as voting taxpaying citizens have been supplanted by the oligarchy to which I referred in my previous posts.

Most Americans didn't approve TARP bailout funds to go to bankers who got richer while we all got poorer. This is evidence that our nation has a broken political system.

All of this to say that you're conflating. You bring up points about Iraq and tax cuts that prove my point even more so; that our current government does not represent the will of its citizens.

I prophesied that within a year of the TARP bailouts that unemployment would be worse and that people would not be in a substantially better position and I was right. TARP was robbery of tax payers to pay for businesses. Privatizing gains and socializing debt is a hallmark NOT of a democratic republic but a hallmark of an OLIGARCHY.

Just about ALL of our politicians are guilty of allowing our desires as citizens to be trumped by their personal greed. The ONLY folks with integrity are Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich and Barbara Lee out of Oakland. All those other boobs have no integrity and have not represented our interests as citizens for many many many years.

In order to understand my comment, it is necessary to define innate human rights. On this blog, the term has various definitions put forth by different posters.

Segregationists had no RIGHT whatsoever to deprive Blacks of their rights to peacefully assemble, their rights to live in peace and their rights to live free of discrimination in jobs, housing etc. One person doesn't have the right to block another person's natural innate rights.

What is at issue is how innate rights are defined.

uptownsteve said...

I disagree.

Obama campaigned on the bailout as well as voting twice for Bush's trillion dollar Wall street bailout proposal.

Mahndisa S. Rigmaiden said...

Yes and the majority of Americans did not approve of giving tax dollars to bailout corporations. I don't know if you agreed to this, but when McCain and Obama supported the Bush bailout plan they BOTH lost a lot of support and if it wasn't immediate, the support was lost in time.

Ultimately they are giving our money away to their friends. It doesn't matter if he campaigned for the cause. It was morally wrong. Bottom line.

If that were true, the record $1.6 trillion in deficit spending over the past fiscal year would have already overheated the economy. Yet despite this spending, which is equal to fully 9 percent of GDP, the economy is expected to shrink by at least 3 percent this fiscal year. If the spending constitutes an injection of “new money” into the economy, we may conclude that, without it, the economy would contract 12 percent — hardly a plausible claim.

If $1.6 trillion in deficit spending failed to slow the economy’s slide, there’s no reason to believe that adding $185 billion — the 2009 portion of the stimulus bill — will suddenly do the trick. But if budget deficits of nearly $2 trillion are insufficient stimulus, how much would be enough? $3 trillion? $4 trillion?

This is no longer a theoretical exercise. The idea that increased deficit spending can cure recessions has been tested, and it has failed. If growing the economy were as simple as expanding government spending and deficits, then Italy, France, and Germany would be the global economic kings. And there would be no reason to stop at $787 billion: Congress could guarantee unlimited prosperity by endlessly borrowing and spending trillions of dollars.

The simple reason government spending fails to end recessions is that Congress does not have a vault of money waiting to be distributed. Every dollar Congress “injects” into the economy must first be taxed or borrowed out of the economy. No new income, and therefore no new demand, is created. They are merely redistributed from one group of people to another. Congress cannot create new purchasing power out of thin air.

here is what we got:
Between Jan 20 2001-2009 under Republican's policies and leadership:

Unemployment doubled from 4.2% to 8.2%
National debt doubled from 5.7 trillion to 10.6 trillion
Yearly budget went from a 236 billion surplus to a 1.2 TRILLION deficit (a 1.4 trillion drop)
Dow Jones plunged 25% from to 10,587 to 7949
Gasoline tripled from 1.44 to 4.11 per gallon on July 11, 2008
Losing 700,000 jobs monthly
Economy in total freefall

(Republicans try to confuse people by saying democrats took over in Jan 2007 and started the recession, but they can not name one thing democrats did to hurt the economy. All experts state the housing crisis started in 2006 and all subprime loans had already been made under a republican congress and president)

In its 2011 budget, which the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released Feb. 1, the administration projected a 10-year deficit total of $8.53 trillion. After looking it over, CBO said in its final analysis, released Thursday, that the president's budget would generate a combined $9.75 trillion in deficits over the next decade.

"An additional $1.2 trillion in debt dumped on [GDP] to our children makes a huge difference," said Brian Riedl, a budget analyst at the conservative Heritage Foundation. "That represents an additional debt of $10,000 per household above and beyond the federal debt they are already carrying."

The federal public debt, which was $6.3 trillion ($56,000 per household) when Mr. Obama entered office amid an economic crisis, totals $8.2 trillion ($72,000 per household) today, and it's headed toward $20.3 trillion (more than $170,000 per household) in 2020, according to CBO's deficit estimates.

That figure would equal 90 percent of the estimated gross domestic product in 2020, up from 40 percent at the end of fiscal 2008. By comparison, America's debt-to-GDP ratio peaked at 109 percent at the end of World War II, while the ratio for economically troubled Greece hit 115 percent last year.

Thank you WhiteBowieSteve.

You now have a decision to make. You either DISCREDIT "SocialistWorker.org" web site or AGREE that the Clinton boom was a smokescreen:

http://socialistworker.org/2003-2/479/479_06_AmericanNightmare.shtml

Article from the year 2003!!!
The ongoing destruction of the kind of decent-paying jobs that gave workers the hope that they and their families would enjoy a better way of life didn't begin with the Bush years. This was a theme even in the "best of times"--the long economic expansion of the Clinton years, known to the corporate media as the 1990s "miracle economy."

In 1998, as the boom was reaching its high point, corporate layoffs also hit the highest level in a decade--higher even than the recession years of the early 1990s. As the Minneapolis Star Tribune put it: "Layoffs used to be a sign of bad times in Corporate America. These days, job cuts are a signal that good times aren't good enough."

Bill Clinton never tired of boasting of the millions of new jobs created during the '90s, even as Corporate America was swinging the layoff ax. But according to a study by the Jobs with Justice union coalition, 74 percent of the jobs that grew fastest in the 1990s paid less than a living wage--and 46 percent of them paid less than half a living wage. Even in the midst of the "miracle" economy, it was possible to work two and even three of these "McJobs"--and still not earn enough to lift a family out of poverty.
alicia banks said...

preach cf!

and MOST of the jobs lost under hobama and his wilding corp pals/swindleus spenders will never return!!!

that is one more thing the hobama nazis think is really ok

Simple supply and demand -- more people seeking jobs than there are openings -- means wages are under pressure, too. Indeed, for the 80% of the private workforce which is non-professional and non-supervisory, wages are 9% lower than they were in 1973, once the numbers are adjusted for inflation.

To some observers, temporary positions simply transfer the risks from the employer to the employees. From the point of view of companies facing intense global competition, however, temp and freelance jobs are simply reflections of the new reality: All business is contingent and nothing is guaranteed to last.

While it is tempting to yearn for "the good old days," it seems that the global economy leaves us little choice but an insecure work environment which favors flexibility and continuous upgrading of skills.

Steve, thanks for your response. So you were uncomfortable with the notion but couldn't see the alternatives, which is why you reluctantly supported the bailouts. Right? Against. Your. Better. Judgment. Because we were all swindled.

YES we should have let the banks fail. Big time. There were literally THOUSANDS of FDIC insured banks out there and to let a few big ones fail would not have caused riots in the streets. Businesses come and go. Some thrive and some fail miserably. It isn't the governments' job to Bail out a failing business due to poor management choices on the part of the business!

The banks that made lousy investments, grooved to no doc/liars loans, gave credit to folks who hadn't a prayer of paying the loans back due to lack of means etc etc etc SHOULD have not only been allowed to fail, their executives should have stood trial for defrauding the American people.

Our President is suspicious to me for many reasons, but one big reason is the fact that he appointed folks responsible for the banking crisis to positions of fiduciary responsibility, which makes no sense whatsoever. Notice that although the money was given to the banks, the unemployment rate has actually INCREASED. And quietly the IRS has excused Citibank of any tax liability for 2009. Yet they are on my ass for $645.00! Seriously there is something wrong with this picture!

more sad news today from America's most liberal city.

The former Director of Detroit Public Schools Department of Risk Management used his position to funnel $57 Million to associates who provided nothing to the school district in return.

$57 million, from a school system in utter shambles!

Documents in a Wayne County Circuit Court lawsuit brought by DPS allege that Stephen Hill of Detroit -- director of DPS risk management from 2001-05 -- received luxury vehicles and other kickbacks. Some of the vendors who benefitted were friends or associates of Hill's or relatives of Hill's assistant, Christina Polk-Osumah of Detroit, court records allege.

When Hill left the district in September 2005, he received a champagne-and-tenderloin farewell bash that cost the impoverished school system $40,000, according to the suit.

You didn't really think Monica Conyers and Kwame Kilpatrick's were aberrations, did you? This is not a black or white thing; it is a liberal thing. Corruption is not a side-effect of progressive left government, corruption is the point of progressive left government. Why do you think the progressives are so eager to get their meat-hooks into health care?

One of the most POWERFUL privileges available in America is the POWER to "LABEL".

Thus some people have the POWER to call a "MURDER" a CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATION while others have the POWER to label it as "another Negro who got himself KILT" - NO BIG DEAL.

What you fail to see is that the ORGANIZED GANGS that have been so DEADLY to the Black community, while not POLITICAL entities are DEADLY NONE THE LESS.

Look at their PRODUCT: Anarchical music and videos.

I was in a bar a few years ago with friends and I saw the rapper Trick Daddy's video where he was in a car chase and the POLICE were the bad guys. HE was the Hero. This sends MESSAGES to the people who watch.

Yet the DEMOCRATIC ESTABLISHMENT recruit these FOOLS to come on stage with them to TROLL FOR Black and Youth vote.

Go get the "American Gangster" episode featuring Larry Hoover. His gang the "Vice Lords"(?) spread from Chicago to Minneapolis and Milwaukee and THEN took over the streets in between.

That may be CF but they certainly aren't objective, which is the operating point I was trying to make. Whoever is in a position of financial responsibility must be totally above board. They should pay their taxes, they should not have any fraud or theft records at all, and they should be objective enough to make policy recommendations without referring to their political camps.

This is why whoever he chose should NOT have been active in any aspect of politics because that sort of clouds sound judgment.

Even UT Steve admitted that he wasn't comfortable with the TARP bailouts but supported them because he didn't know the alternative. I KNOW there are alternatives to the folks Obama has put in financial and regulatory positions. They aren't the only ones with PhD's in economics!

But if you mind your own business they will be the first to bother you.

I was sitting outside of my parents house on THEIR property a few years ago smoking a cigarette. These cops came to deal with the neighbors across the street. Anyway one of the cops tried to give ME shit for minding my own business on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

I know you can't fix stupid, but I'll try. The racial composition of the US prison and jail population as of 2008 was 40.21% African American. Blacks make up 10% of the House of Representatives. In the US, blacks are 12% of the population; in Cuba, 11%.

Black have had the right to vote since 1868, with the passage of the 14th ammendnment. Due to local laws that interferred with blacks exercising their right to vote, congress passed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that struck down barriers to black enfranchisement. This act facilitates enforcement of the 14th ammendment; No one's voting rights are contingent on its existence.

This is acommon bit of misinformation bandied about by idiots like Whoopi Goldberg.

Mahndisa S. Rigmaiden said...

Steve, I disagree. I think that we should really get away from using these types of terms because it could be argued that the Great Society programmes crippled lower income Blacks and made them dependent on the government; a government that was historically ambivalent to them. Food stamps are a Department of Agriculture program for low-income individuals and families, covering most foods although not prepared hot foods or alcohol. For a family of four to be eligible, their annual take-home pay can’t exceed about $22,000.

According to a USDA report released last month, 28.4 million Americans received food stamps in an average month in 2008, and about half were younger than age 18. The average monthly benefit per household totaled $222.

Rank and Cornell University sociologist Thomas Hirschl studied data from a nationally representative survey of 4,800 American households interviewed annually from 1968 through 1997 by the University of Michigan. About 18,000 adults and children were involved.

Overall, about 49 percent of all children were on food stamps at some point by the age of 20, the analysis found. That includes 90 percent of black children and 37 percent of whites. The analysis didn’t include other ethnic groups.

If there were decent paying jobs available for them you really believe that people would have chosen to collect welfare?

Daniel P. Moynihan wrote his inner city thesis "The Crisis of the Negro Family" in 1965 which was the dawn of the Great Society so how could the Great Society have broken the urban black family when the problems were obvious beforehand?

The deindustrialization of urban America and the loss of low skill good paying jobs, the flight of the middle class tax base, the influx of addictive illicit drugs and the sexual revolution all formed together in a Perfect Storm to create the urban underclass we see today.
