"At long last, sir, have you no sense of decency?"

No he didn't Mr. Welsh. No he didn't.

You have to love when people revisit history and try to put their own spin on it. Better yet, when they start trying to make us forget about the deeds of certain historical figures. Take wingnuts and Joe McCarthy, for instance.

All of a sudden, Joe, to them, is a real A-merry-can hero. A man who was simply misunderstood by the masses, and smeared in a negative way by a progressive press and Ivy League academics. Well, they are fighting back, and they are putting a more positive spin on Joe in academic circles themselves. The largest voice for this new and improved Joe McCarthy is one Glen Beck. He has declared that McCarthy was right all along ,and is warning A-merry-ca about the new "red scare": (No, not the spies they caught living among us last week. ) The beige man in the White House and his Socialist policies. Ironically, I see many similarities between McCarthy and some of the posers on the right today: The lies. The big pulpit and resources to spread them.

"I have here in my hand a list of two-hundred-and-five - a list of names that were made known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nonetheless are still working and shaping policy in the State Department."

That, of course, was a lie. He had no such list. Just remember that the next time Beck and his friends start telling you about some deep dark secret they are keeping about his O ness or someone in his administration.

And let us not forget who Joseph McCarthy really was:

"On McCarthy’s first day in office, he called a press conference to air his proposal for the end of a coal miner’s strike led by labor leader John L. Lewis. His proposal was for the coal miners, including Lewis, to be drafted into the military, and then when they refused to mine coal, they were to be court martialed for insubordination and then shot.."

"Next, McCarthy turned to book banning. His researchers found that the Overseas Library Program contained 30,000 books written by "communists, pro-communists, former communists, and anti-anti-communists." After the list was published, those books were banished from the library."

And,

"McCarthy began to receive information from Federal Bureau of Investigation head J. Edgar Hoover. Confrontational hearings led to sensational charges, but there was little hard evidence to support McCarthy's charges. He identified Johns Hopkins University professor Owen Lattimore as the number one Soviet spy in America. "

There is more, but I will spare you. Go read your history books. Before Beck and company rewrites them.

The rehabilitation of McCarthy and the demonization of Marshall. More or less captures the Yin and Yang of Wingnuttia.

Field, check out the July issue of Harper's. It has an excellent and thought provoking article on the 'bagger shenanigans in Arizona and the implications on the future of the GOP. It is a future only CF could love.

Spain squeaks by Paraguay. I have never seen anything quite like the back to back missed penalties in the 61st minute. Simply amazing. '66 was the first World Cup that I remember, albeit vaguely. 2010 is shaping up to be among the best in my living memory.

one of my complaints about both politics and the media these days is that the availability of massive amouts of information often means that few will actually try to verify that information, since it is supposedly so easy. The internet and the dissolution of television and print media standards lends itself to a world where people such as Beck and others can make outrageous statements and reshape history simply by repetition.

Thanks for reminding me that exaggeration and the reshaping of history and the present is not limited to our contemporary historical period. McCarthy and his supporters did much the same thing.

So I guess it's not just about Beck rewriting history; Beck is actually becoming McCarthy himself.

Vérité Parlant said...

But Beck began his version of McCarthyism with forcing the resignation of Van Jones, didn't he? Beck is crazy and so are the people who follow him. And what's scarier is this is not the first time in history that people have been whipped into hysteria by a mad man. Do humans ever learn?

As long as Fox keeps Beck on the air, it proves it wants America to implode.

Back in April, a University of Washington study found that the Teabaggers had serious issues with race.

It [the UW study] found that those who are racially resentful, who believe the U.S. government has done too much to support blacks, are 36 percent more likely to support the tea party than those who are not.

Then there was that CBS/NYT poll.

…white Tea Party supporters were more likely to believe that “the Obama administration favors blacks over whites” and that “too much has been made of the problems facing black people.”

Well, Gallup just found similar results.

Those who embrace the Tea Party movement are much less likely than others to see discrimination as a threat to the nation’s future and a hurdle for minorities. More than three in four say racial minorities have equal job opportunities; half of non-Tea Party supporters agree. They overwhelmingly reject the notion that economic disparities between blacks and whites are mainly the result of discrimination.

Nearly half say blacks lag in jobs, income and housing “because most African Americans just don’t have the motivation or willpower to pull themselves up out of poverty.”

But Thurgood Marshall made J Edgar Hoover happy when he purged the Commie Pinkos from the ranks of the NAACP.

Filled Negro:

So predictable.
So ultimately irrelevant to the real issues WITHIN the Black community.

Such a great "self-chum" nutrition source for the Progressives that FRONT to have a prime concern about our community when in truth their only interest is an ideological power grab regardless of the outcomes.

Filled Negro -

1) As we look at the fact that 5 people were murdered in Philadelphia surely taking it beyond the 150 mark that you have posted for the first 6 months of the year - WHAT IMPACT does Joe McCarthy or Glenn Beck have on this situation?

2) I was reading that West Philly High School just replaced its principal because "Arlene" - the Superintendent of schools was concerned about the fact that only 3% of students scored PROFICIENT in whatever test they took. The article credited the fired principal for mitigating the problem with fights in the hall ways. Progress indeed.

Do you see, Filled Negro - while you exorcise your "conservative demons" from your midst you are rendered ineffective in addressing the most pressing problems within.

While you and your fellow travelers are appeased as long as you focus upon the agreed upon subject matter that keeps you UNITED and don't focus on these other issues - you can be content. Further as long as you all agree that the PROBLEMS are caused by some other source the AGREEMENT IN EXTERNAL FAULT remains as the unifying force as you pursue this EXTERNAL FIX that never seems to come.

How's that for analysis dukuhead?

McCarthyism might not affect all of the Black community, but you can bet, that if you are really a Black person it would effect you as guilt by association to Field. It wouldn't matter what your current ideology. You would barely be able to utter the Fifth.

Did you not post a comment on The Field Negro's blog on the 4th of July, 2010?

Somewhere in the academic annals of America there is a Black "Public Intellectual" who, despite being a leftist is more committed to his INTELLECTUAL pursuit of honesty.

He/she is eying the people who are doing as Filled Negro is doing.
This academic sees the focus upon:

* Glenn Beck
* Sarah Palin
* Rush Limbaugh
* Michael Steele
* Bill O'Reilly
* Rush Limbaugh
* G. Gordon Liddy
* Sean Hannity
* Fox News
* Dick Cheney
* Karl Rove

make note of the LACK OF POWER that these people have WITHIN THE BLACK COMMUNITY;

make note of the PROBLEMS WITHIN and then do an expose' as to the key question:

HOW DO THE FRAUDS THAT RUN THIS DIVERSION MAINTAIN THEIR SEAT OF CONFIDENCE within the "Black Community Cultural Consciousness Nucleus" without being PURGED by the masses who want a FIX rather than appeasement.

If McCarthy was running a scam for the purposes of stoking fear and loyalty - what is it that Filled Negro doing? Handing out SELF-CHUM because he sees hungry (leftist) Negroes who need feed?

OK Brother,(and I use the term loosely) what's your problem? Black people STILL die in Georgia, you live there ,AND YOU HAVEN'T STOPPED IT! Don't accuse others of not cleaning their yard when your's isn't clean either. Why don't you take care of the"Street Pirates" first before you bitch about Field. Then stop running your con game, or whatever on your blog and stop sulling the memory of black leaders, expecially The Honorable Dr. Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Did the Destructive Wingnut just compare Thurgood Marhsall to Joseph McCarthy? Please tell me that my eyes are deceiving me. Wow!
Not surprising that he is defending someone who stood for everything that is opposite to most of our ideals. And to think, today is the 4th of July.

You folks are dangerous. BTW, I love the murder count strawman. 21 people were killed in Mexico -just over the Texas border- yesterday. What is your point?

Sup brohammas? I enjoyed lunch. You are an interesting dude. Let's start that "beer summit" racial discussion group, soon.

(Side note. After reading an article from a leftist professor about how a new round of "Compassionate Progressivism" is needed to push for PARKS over JAILS - I will return to the murder scene that I went to in order to investigate the PARK that was merely one block away.

It appeared to be a newly furnished park. Let's see how utilized it is today.

I will see if there is a number of Black people cooking their ribs in support of Independence Day.

You surprised me on this one. I thought that you would discredit the interview by pointing to Juan Williams.

Are you saying that Thurgood Marshall DID NOT purge communists from the Boston chapter?

Recall that Low & Country talked about conservative revisionism of history in order to sugar coat and protect a favored person. When did you become a conservative Filled Negro?

Marshall discounted King's antics as well, stating that the REAL movement is in the courts.

I still wondering how the "Black baby doll" test which was used as proof of the damage of segregation STILL TODAY produces the same results.

Is it possible that indoctrinated BLACK INFERIORITY is the real problem Filled Negro?

You would be better to investigate the antics of Ted Kennedy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg than Glenn Beck.

Please recall that candidate Obama did his "race speech" in Philly and warned America about the perils of allowing a school to become ALL BLACK.

I watched a video of Marcus Garvey last night.

The female who was being interviewed to provide context to Garvey's motivates and tactics hit the nail on the head.

She told of 3 perspectives:

1) The Black masses who had been beaten down and told that they were Inferior

2) The Black Establishment (WEB DuBous & A Philip Randolph) who were threatened by the Garvey's attack on their INTEGRATIONALIST strategy

3) The WHITE FOLKS (J Edgar Hoover) who realized the threat of an organized and conscious Black force.

Despite the fact that the "Progressive Who Is Black" attempts to claim X, King, Garvey, Randolph, DuBois and all of the "Good Black Guys" in History the painful truth is that this is a LIE. These forces had very different methodologies in pursuit of their mission for Black freedom.

Randolph and DuBois wrote a letter to Hoover expressing their happiness in his take down of Marcus Garvey. They offered to do whatever they could to assist in his deportation.

DID YOU KNOW THIS KID?

You see Marcus Garvey threatened to bring non-Integrationalist CONSCIOUSNESS to the Black American and set the people's consciousness upon a return to Africa on the Black Star Line where they could execute the Universal Negro Improvement Association out from under the thumb of Uncle Sam.

Some people TRANSACT upon Black Inferiority to obtain temporary benefit others BLAST this theory to hell, exposing it as a lie.

Which one are you?

Oh wait. Punitive Taxation is such a more surgical way of accomplishing the same thing. Instead of out right STEALING private property you can legislatively mandate a 60% Progressive Marginal Tax Rate on the evil rich!!!

They likely stole their money via capitalism anyway. YOU (yes YOU Kid) get to launder these proceeds clean and use them for a more forthright purpose.

YOU get to be seen as the community hero and you STILL get to render indictments against the CAPITALISTS who did the money aggregation through theft.

Just don't slip up and find yourself on the other side of the citizenship wall from your capitalistic enemies. If you do you'll find that the sanctuary cities concept is not going endure for too long. Punitive Taxation? Is that what you are calling income tax now? When the marginal rate is at it's lowest level in 60 years?

First off, where do you get the 60% figure? Oh, wait, there's no such thing. It is another cartoon strawman from our favorite wingnut animator.

Since you are a big fan of Wikipedia here is a better link: Income tax in the United States. Top marginal rate is still 35%.

Are you including property taxes, sales tax and other consumption taxes in your calculation of "punitive taxation"?

No, I never met the man, though I did meet a variety of his relatives who were living in Amsterdam on U.N. refugee passports at at that time. Strange bunch, I could write a book but nobody would believe it. Charles was "a nice young man who fell in with a bad crowd" apparently (!)

Fair play to Edwina, she found me through Facebook a few months ago. She's now back in Liberia living under an assumed name, and working for an N.G.O. that helps refugees re-build their lives.

Given that there are an awful lot of Liberians who would gladly see her dead if they knew her true identity, that constitutes serious F.N.B. in my humble opinion.

Gregorian Chant:

I will give you the benefit of the doubt because I was not clear.

I took the AVERAGE of the top marginal tax rate over time and came up with the number slightly above 60%.

What YOU and your Progressive friends should note is that even during these wealth confiscatory levels of taxation there was abundant poverty in the nation. Maybe something other than resentment policies targeted at the rich and corporations are needed in this country.
