1) Some of the files are being held back, in defiance of the law Congress passed;
2) Trump’s self-evidently trying to bury the story by timing the release for a Friday night, when the least number of people will be paying attention. That’s not what you do if it’s a good story for the government!

Sadly, I’d say the left in this country is way too tolerant. This is how you end up with a 6-3 lunatic Republican majority on the Supreme Court, rubber-stamping Trump’s worst violations of the rule of law — despite the fact that Republicans did not win enough elections to earn those SCOTUS seats.
As just one example, Mitch McConnell should never have even contemplated the possibility of stealing a Supreme Court nomination from Obama to give it to Gorsuch. He should’ve been too afraid of what revenge Democrats would take if he did. He should have been worried about how Democrats would respond by deliberately targeting Republican donors’ businesses with regulations to ruin them, or how they would spitefully wreck industries in Republican states, close prisons and military bases in the districts of vulnerable GOP congresspeople, selectively block farm aid and let their farmers go broke.
Republicans don’t understand anything but cruelty. You have to hurt them back, or they don’t get the message that laws and political norms exist for a reason. Taking the high road doesn’t work, when the other side always goes low.
SLATE magazine has a couple of excellent articles on the scotus except there is a paywall. How do I,know they are excellent articles? Because Dahlia Lithwick and Mark Joseph Stern do nothing but excellent works.
