Operation Epstein.

Happy Sunday field hands.

Imagine being such an evil and contemptible human being that you would literally start a war with another country (one with nuclear capabilities) in order to cover up the fact that you possibly had sexual relations with underaged girls.

Sadly, I believe that's where we are in America right now.

Leave your thoughts and comments.

I think there are other available reasons, although they are also bad.

Trump isn’t only trying to distract from any possible unpleasant revelations from the Epstein files. He’s trying to distract from everything. All of his policies and actions are now increasingly unpopular — even his handling of immigration, which had, sadly, been the most popular (among the racists and the economically illiterate). His disapproval rating is rising, and the Republican Party is expecting a spectacular beatdown in the midterms.

Also, he is surrounded by people who are confused about where the United States’ interests lie. The default position of the leadership of the Republican Party (though not necessarily its voters) is that Israel is the 51st state, and whatever is good for Israel is good for America. This is demonstrably not true, but this does not stop them from believing it. Israel wanted this war, and most of the terrible people advising Trump will have told him this was a good idea, and that defeating Iran would make him go down in history as the very stable genius he thinks he really is. Marco Rubio admitted as much to the press.

In short, Netanyahu said jump, and Trump asked, how high?

His administration is full of a bunch of ten-year-olds. trump, hegseth and miller would not let the opportunity to play with a bunch of toys go by. He can use special ops to kidnap leaders he doesn't like. He can use stealth bombers to bomb Iran. Until he gets some adult supervision, like he seemed to have in his first term, this will go on. I mean, why else would they release videos that look just like Call of Duty? The world is dealing with spoiled, dumb and entitled children. This won't end well.🤬

He doesn't believe, much less understand why his "policies" are so unpopular, so all he can do is try to distract attention away from literally everything he is doing and has done.
His idea of distraction is to make a bigger mess than the one he wants to distract attention away from: a one way ratchet to hell on Earth.
Yes, he's a goddamn pedophile. Yes, he's a goddamn ghoul who has needlessly killed a half a million people in Africa. Yes, he's an obsessed dumbfuck who deliberately fails to understand how tariffs work while waging trade wars with them.
Yes, he's a fucking nazi who has his goons in the street murdering and disappearing people just for the cruelty of it.
Yes, seventy seven million Americas voted to let him do all of that and more.
Our best hope, at this point, is that the ordinary lives of enough of those seventy seven million clueless fuckheads get disrupted enough to get them to vote in a Democratic majority solid enough to get some actual policy instituted without a Manchin and/or Sinema to stop it like last time.
This mess will be harder to clean up than previous Republican messes, but what else can we do? Torture wasn't easy to rebuild our reputation from either, but we did our best, and mostly it worked.
The rest of the world will never trust us like they used to, that will be Fergus' legacy, but we will just have to do the best we can with the pile of reeking shit we are left with.
But at least we didn't have to have the Black lady in the white house.

Trump Demands Staff Get King Of Hormuz On Line

Published: March 16, 2026

WASHINGTON—In a bid to regain access to the sea passage through which ships enter the Persian Gulf, President Donald Trump ordered staff to get the King of Hormuz on the line, White House sources confirmed Monday. “Put me on with the royal leader of Hormuz, ASAP—I need to convince him to reopen his water,” said the commander-in-chief, assuring aides they must have the royal family’s contact information somewhere since he’d spoken to the Crown Prince of Hormuz many times before. “I plan to warn him that he doesn’t want to take his chances on a war between Hormuz and America. After all, we are two of the world’s greatest superpowers and have long-standing diplomatic ties. I remember him being a very reasonable guy, so I am simply going to remind him what happened when Mr. Panama tried to test me.” Trump added that if he did not hear back from the King of Hormuz within 24 hours, he would have no choice but to attack the capital, Hormuz City.

“I was hoping Kat Abughazaleh would win her primary, but I have a feeling we haven't heard the last of her.”

I followed her race, and while I liked her energy and relaxed communication style, her campaign did seem fairly unserious and “stunty.”

Basically, she focused a lot distinguishing herself from other candidates by engaging in street protests and offering “mutual aid” (i.e., her campaign provided public assistance to poor people). Which is nice and all, but neither is really in the job description of legislators. We have activists and charities to perform those functions, and they tend to do them better.

When it came to what types of legislation she’d like to pass, there wasn’t all that much there. Her policy platform was only slightly more sophisticated than yelling “f*ck Trump!”

There is a certain amount of appeal to all that militancy, given the infuriating moment we are in, with Trump’s assault on democracy, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to get her across the line. I suspect we haven’t seen the last of her, and if she runs again, maybe she will improve her approach to politics.

One problem with propaganda at odds with reality is its corrosive effect on your ability to act in your own self interest. For example, the stupid, stupid "Save America Act" is so focused on the non-existent scourge of non-citizens voting (non-citizens do not expose themselves to jail and deportation to add one vote to an election) that their disenfranchising regime (which will, thankfully, never pass) would affect far more MAGA rural poor voters (who don't tend to have as easy of access to the sort of documents required) than more Democratic-aligned and better educated city dwellers.
So if their bill were to pass, it would likely hurt them at the ballot box.

-Doug in Sugar Pine

Anonymous said...

“So if their bill were to pass, it would likely hurt them at the ballot box.”

There’s been a lot of focus on whether the goal of this law is to deliberately disenfranchise women, since they would have to jump through more hoops to be able to vote if they’ve married and taken their husbands’ names. And women tend to vote for Democrats more than men.

Also, the Save Act only applies to people submitting a new voter registration. How could Republicans turn this to their advantage? By selectively challenging the legitimacy of voter registrations in blue districts, getting Democrats kicked off the voter rolls and then being forced to re-register under the onerous provisions of the Save Act. This would be a way they could disenfranchise the Democrats’ voters without disenfranchising their own.

The Trump administration have been demanding that voter rolls be handed over to them to inspect, with their exact motives a mystery. Maybe they want access to the voter rolls so that they can kick legitimate voters off of them?

PX said...

"By selectively challenging the legitimacy of voter registrations in blue districts, getting Democrats kicked off the voter rolls and then being forced to re-register under the onerous provisions of the Save Act."

And here is the treacherous part. Once someone is purged from the voter roll they have no obligation to notify the purged person. So let's say I wanted to purge a reliable blue voter and make sure their vote didn't count I would purge them 1 day before an election leaving them no time to re-register. That doesn't sound very fair to me. I say no purges 90 days before an election and the state must take every reasonable effort to contact that person and assist in any manner to immediately return them to the roll.

Anonymous said...

“And here is the treacherous part. Once someone is purged from the voter roll they have no obligation to notify the purged person.”

There are some protections available, but not enough.

There is a federal law that prevents mass automated purging within 90 days of an election. But voters can still be purged within that window if an individual case is made for why they should be removed.

There is also a federal requirement for notification to voters that they’ve been purged — but only when the reason for the purging is that you’ve been alleged to have moved out of the voting district. Some states, like Illinois, require notification if you’re purged for other reasons besides the belief that you’ve moved, but this is not common.

Th SAVE Act contains provisions to make it easier to purge. The pretext for the purges will be the fantastical and racist Republican conspiracy theory that the voter rolls are filled with illegal immigrants. So it is pretty obvious how they will weaponize this. They will attempt to selectively purge anyone with a foreign-sounding name or who lives in a blue-voting area. And then you will either show up to the polls to find to your surprise that you cannot vote; or you will find out ahead of time, but then you will have to jump through a bunch of extra stupid hoops that the SAVE Act created in order to get re-registered.

The SAVE Act is indeed the SAVE Republicans Act. Trump has done a load of stuff that the public hates, with Republicans meekly (or enthusiastically) cosigning all of it. And now they’re going to get destroyed in the midterms unless they cheat. The SAVE Act probably won’t pass into, but this is definitely why Trump wants it to.

If Trump isn’t willing to either back off, or invade Iran with ground troop’s, it is hard to see how he gets the Strait of Hormuz open again … unless he goes with the third option: total aerial warfare (aka war crimes).

And the concern is that is where things could end up. Destroying Iran’s oil and gas infrastructure would totally devastate their economy. In revenge, Iran would destroy the equivalent infrastructure of US-allied Gulf states, and the global economy would take a huge hit, as these resources would then be inaccessible in the Middle East for YEARS while infrastructure is rebuilt.

The damage could go farther than that. The mutual destruction of water desalination plants would bring these countries to their knees. Millions would die of thirst.

I think this comes of not looking deeply enough at a candidate’s background, and just latching on to one or two public statements of theirs that one agrees with.

Urea is one of the items held back by the closing of the Strait of Hormuz, and is selling for more than $600/ton.
After the ethanol requirement is satisfied, nearly half of this year's projected crop, the rest of the corn will be much more expensive. That corn will go to feed cattle, pigs and chickens, which in turn will all be more expensive.
Even if the war lasts only a few weeks, once the crop has been planted, that's what we get this year.
So tell me again why you believed Fergus would lower your grocery bill if you voted for him.

“The American Left is not Left enough and nowhere near violent enough. Your government is controlled by psychopathic fascist thugs, and your Left is standing around saying, ‘Gosh, this is unfortunate.’ Pathetic.”

All the alternatives to normal electoral politics are much easier to advocate for, from the safety of thousands of miles away, than to accomplish here in the US. Just saying.

Even non-violent resistance — such as, for example, organizing a general strike — is complicated by multiple factors in the US, such as:

1) Violent, heavily armed cops
2) An extremely punitive justice system
3) Weak job protections
4) A very limited labor movement

As for moving to violent actions, most decent folks consider war to be a last resort. Particularly war on one’s own neighbors. Our last civil war caused massive casualties. A similar death rate in a 2026 US civil war would result in something like 8 million dead.

So, yes, there is some hesitation to trade ballots for bullets.

Investors sued Elon Musk over his campaign to bad-mouth Twitter, in order to drive the stock price down so he could buy the company more cheaply. And they won!

Haha, fuck Elon.

I'm not talking about trading ballots for bullets. Hitler himself said, (talking about the early days of the NSDAP,) that "if the Reds had simply smashed us from the streets, the third reich would never have happened." The thing about fascism is that you frequently have to use fascist methods to destroy it. Bit there is no choice, standing around and watching will eventually lead to many, many more deaths.

Many fear using power because they don't want to be another version of the thing they're trying to stop.
Fascists exploit that fear over and over again.
Like the new California gerrymander. Yes, gerrymandering is very harmful to democracy, and we had an independent commission draw our districts for years. But the new gerrymander expires in 2030 with the new census and reverts back to the commission.
Meanwhile, what we need is to win some fucking elections right the fuck now, and the new gerrymander may help get that done on a national level.
It's not so much the use of power as the stupidity and greed that often accompanies it that is so dangerous.
