"The coward only threatens when he is safe" ~ Goethe~
The word out of Washington now is that some of the Republican elected officials are now defying Trump and pushing back on his agenda. The editorial writers and talking heads on cable news are quick to point this out and praise them as being independent and defiant. They are not. The Senators who trump opposed in their primaries, who were ultimately defeated by MAGA handpicked candidates, are still angry and bitter. (Ken Paxton? Really?!) Others see the tide turning in the polls, and so, as politicians like to do, they are reading the political tea leaves. So everybody calm down. Let's not give them the profiles in courage stamp just yet.
The public outcry against Trump's Anti-Weaponization Fund has been so loud and angry that it defies logic that the White House would actually think they could get away with it. Trump's loyalist could not defend it, and the public would not let them. And so it gave the cowards cover. They came out against it, and the White House had to scrap this particular grift they were planning on the American people. (For now)
Then there are the picks for his cabinet posts. These are folks who are so seriously unqualified for the positions they are slated for, that you have to wonder if Mr. Trump is trying to sabotage his own administration and if he really wants the government to fail. Or, if he is just testing the sycophants who are beholding to him in Washington. It didn't take a lot of courage to come out against Bill Pulte, a MAGA political hack who rump picked to run the national intelligence agency. " I see no evidence of any qualifications for the job", says John Cornyn of Texas, who Mr. Trump has already dumped like he was one of his former mistresses. It wasn't hard to come out against Bill Pulte's nomination, Stevie Wonder could see that the man should not have even been considered for the position. Especially now that we are at war.
Finally, speaking of war, Mr. Trump's war of distraction (Remember Jeffrey Epstein?) in Iran had to have been the last straw for some of the cowards who are now finally pushing back. On June 3, the House passed a Democratic resolution to end the Iran war. Four Republicans actually crossed over and voted with the Democrats. Not much, but it was enough to get the resolution through. Of course it means nothing, because Trump will veto it. But it's a crack.
The mid-terms are coming, and Trump's approval ratings are in the mid thirties. That spells doom for anyone who is hanging unto his MAGA coattails. One thing we know that a cowardly politician can do, is read the poll numbers.
USA Today columnist, Rex Hupke, said it best:
"The Republican Party remains largely in lockstep with Trump as he marches them and the rest of us off an economic and reputational cliff. But the war powers vote and submarining the beloved ballroom are clear signs that cracks are forming in the party.
I expect those cracks will spread and deepen the closer we get to the midterms. And if the country is lucky, and voters are smart, the whole cult-of-personality monument Trump built from the spines Republicans willingly surrendered will come tumbling on down."
Cowards do not have spines.

“I'll believe it when I see it, he's a goddamn Republican and he'll keep voting like one:”
He’ll probably cast at least a few votes that Trump doesn’t like.
Most of these Republican senators have been holding their noses and voting for some stuff they hate, because Trump commands it. Greenlighting terrible cabinet choices, cosigning Trump’s corruption, etc. Cornyn will just stop doing all that. Both because he wants to, ideologically, and because he wants revenge on Trump.
He’s not going to turn into a liberal, of course. Medicare for All! Green New Deal! Every month is Pride month! Not gonna happen.
But Cornyn very well may vote to block Trump getting his stupid ballroom.
Because you can't trust what they say:
A federal judge in Virginia on Friday granted a longer-term block against the Department of Justice implementing a “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” saying she wanted written guarantees from the DOJ and the Treasury Department that the fund is actually not going forward, as Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has claimed, CNBC reports.

Wired: “Within an hour after a horrific knife attack took place in Belfast on Monday night, far-right UK activist Tommy Robinson had shared a video of the incident on X, a post that racked up six million views. Within hours Elon Musk, the owner of the platform, weighed in, agreeing with a post calling for ‘consequences’ for politicians…”
“Politicians were quick to criticize Musk and Robinson for their role in fomenting the violence, but what no one appeared to notice was the role played by the white supremacist Active Club movement and its Youth Club wing in not only stoking tensions, but advising and orchestrating the masked youths who spearheaded much of the violence.”

Multiple live streams with thousands of viewers watched workers build the scaffolding to take Fergus' stupid, filthy name off of the Kennedy Center. Still up there after they asked for a 12 hour extension, but it will come down.

Nope, dope... Barack Obama was not involved in the creation of biological weapons laboratories. Audio leaks from the fucking situation room are a whole new level of incompetence:
Axios: “Top White House officials believe New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan obtained audio recordings of Situation Room meetings for their forthcoming book, Regime Change.”
“Such a taped leak would be a shocking breach of one of the most secure settings on Earth. Independent recording devices in the Situation Room are forbidden.”

So what do we get from Fergus' "deal" with Iran?
A partial return to the situation we had before Fergus attacked Iran to please Bibi, but with degraded oil infrastructure and worldwide depletion of oil reserves that will upwardly pressure prices for at least months to come.
A fall harvest impacted by a lack of fertilizer during spring planting.
A new, harder line and emboldened regime in Iran that has just proved to the world that it can withstand the wrath of the US military and use the attack to improve its own standing, including getting 25 billion dollars of its frozen assets back.
At least ten more years of full-on theocracy in Iran despite a restive population ready for their lives to improve.
The degradation of the image of US military power worldwide.
The utter collapse of American diplomacy.
Somewhere in the neighborhood of fifty billion dollars up in literal smoke.
Thirteen dead US soldiers and a couple of hundred wounded, plus at least hundreds of dead Iranians, including schoolchildren.
More distance between us and our allies and more opportunities for our enemies.
Billions of dollars in regular American's money lost to inflation.
And on and on, this was stupid and Fergus is stupid and everyone who voted for him is stupid.

Interesting perspective. Politics often seems less about courage and more about timing. When public opinion shifts, suddenly voices that were silent for months become much louder. Whether these politicians are acting out of principle or political survival is something voters will ultimately decide.
One thing is certain: elections have a way of revealing who truly stands by their convictions and who simply follows the latest polling numbers. As the next election cycle approaches, it will be fascinating to see how these divisions evolve and whether they become lasting changes or just temporary political calculations.
On a lighter note, after following political headlines all day, sometimes it's nice to switch gears and enjoy a bit of entertainment. I've recently come across https://instantcasinoaustralia.org/, which offers a fun way to unwind and take a break from the nonstop news cycle.
