Pimps On The Pulpit!

This morning as I slide into my usual spot to get my morning jolt of java, I notice a USA Today sitting on one of the tables in the coffee shop. For some reason on this particular morning, the good Lord led me to a used paper that was on the table. So I opened it for a quick read. To my dismay and surprise, right there on page 5A, was a full page ad. taken out by a group of charlatan's masquerading as men (and woman) of God, who call themselves the "High Impact Leadership Coalition."

Now if you have not gotten today's USA TODAY, I urge you to run out and get it. (My only regret is that I am posting these comments so late.) Because I guarantee you that when you see what these pimps masquerading as preachers have done, you will be as pissed off as I am.

Now if you know anything about me, you will know that I have some serious issues with the latest wave of black preachers in America. I have blogged about it here before. I think that far too many of them are about self and not the communities and the congregations that they are supposed to be serving. Many of them are in bed with sleazy politicians (on both sides of the political spectrum) who pay them well to sell out their people and their God.

In this particular full page ad., House Negro and White House Lawn Jockey, Bishop Harry Jackson, along with his merry band of sellouts, are actually declaring their opposition to S-1105, which happens to be a hate crimes bill. You see it's like this; in their twisted demented world, a hate crimes bill is not necessary because we already have laws on the books to cover hate crimes.--I won't bore you with all the legal reasons that this is a bunch of bull shit-- They parrot the conservative and Bush lines when it comes to hate crimes; "hate crime laws will punish thoughts and not actions." They call the proposed legislation; "suspect, unnecessary, unfair and un-American." Really? "Un-American" to protect disadvantaged people and minorities from mother fuckers in this country who would just as soon lynch or beat them to death because they happen to be black or gay? Yeah yeah yeah, I know that black folks are supposed to be seriously homophobic, and most of us are not supposed to really care what happens to a bunch of Gay people. But let's keep it 100%. Many of the Gay people in the black community are deep in the church. So don't you see the irony in all of this? Careful there Bishop, you might not have a choir come Sunday morning.

But that's alright Bishop, I am sure that you want to be able to preach about things like the "unbiblical behavior" of gays and those with different lifestyles without it being considered hate speech. And you have even declared that some of these laws have already been used to "muzzle the church". Well guess what; if you are on the pulpit preaching hate, your ass should be muzzled. But that's just me. I happen to think that preachers should be more on the love side of the fence, than being on the same side with a bunch of right wing bigots, and narrow minded zealots.

A FULL PAGE AD.! I bet that shit was expensive. Which brings me to the next question; how did the good Reverend and his High Impact Leadership Coalition afford such an expensive advertisement in the first place? I guess it pays to have rich friends in high places. I just hope it was worth it. I think I nice biblical quote would go very well right about now in my post. But unfortunately, even though I am a PK, I can't really think of any right about now. Hey, I just haven't been to church in awhile.......wait, I have one. How about "Jesus wept"?

Jesus has been weeping for some time.

I'm going to USA Today's website so I can know the names of these fools.

At the risk of offending the non-believers may I offer the following:

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?

Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Not everyone that calls themselves a Christian or a preacher are such. I can call myself a chicken, but without the eggs it don't make it so. If you go to church all that makes you is a churchgoer, if you read the bible, all that makes you is a biblereader. Without change there is no new life...

Thanks field, this is a good send off for me...I will keep you all in my prayers...

God bless

Oh how appropriate! I just got off the phone with one of my girls. She was dating a big name ATL preacher who just dumped her because she wouldn't give up the goodies! Wow, guess that "man of God" never heard about chastity?

You know what...I should consider being a Reverend/Pastor/Bishop (Pimp) also. Clearly you get to spend other people's hard earned money, earn a doctorate from Gee-Uz B Wit University, the mic is always turned on and loud, you have theme music, you never have to use logic just through in a few phrases like;

"and the meek shall inherit
"ask in HIS name
"be obedient to the Shepard (Me)
"not be shaken
"he spoke to me and said
"Tithe and sow your seed of...blah, blah

I think I got this how playing church down pack.
I shall be called the Bishop Divine Lavender!

FN; Can I buy rainbow Bishop collar on Ebay?

*I am going to look and see, anyone else want me to pick them up a few? Taking Orders; spitting on the end of my pencil!*

Preach my brother preach. I'm a second generation PK - Grandfather and Five Uncles are preachers - so I feel your pain. I hate when "men of God" don't live up to their calling. It's just not right to take advantage of people and misuse the authority that God has given.

Soooo, very disappointing - again. But I am supposed to "embrace" this lunacy? Sorry, but I am having a problem "signing on" to this.

Give me strength!!!!!!!!!

And FN, I have always kept up with the "Killedelphia Count" much to my embarrassment and sorrow. So how is that "anti-snitch campaign" working out in the ghetto since they started taking out men in increasing numbers too?

Whenever we need to be on the right side of issues like this, you can always find "Bishop" Harry Jackson and the Sellouts on the opposite side of it.

As Black People, we know first hand about discrimination - I don't care what your ideology is about Gay people, but this is a HATE CRIMES bill and we shouldn't be opposing any HATE Crime law that guarantees equal treatment with dignity as human beings.

Jackson better check and see if he's going to Heaven, because of stunts like this, he may be one of many "preachers" that will be busting the gates of Hell wide open.

I can't believe anyone would oppose a hate-crimes bill. From what I hear the biggest change to the law is to include crimes against homosexuals (I could be wrong). Just because someone may not fit the proposed lifestyle of your church, although we all know plenty of gay people go to church, doesn't mean you should sanction crimes against them. Don't they know it's just a small step to putting them back "where they belong"?

This reminds me of a question I saw posted this weekend: "Who would Jesus torture?" Hate and ridicule are not a strategy for bringing gays to God.

Thanks for posting a link to my article exploring Markos Alberto Moulitsas ZÚÑIGA's (DailyKos) connections to the CIA (spent 6 months training there in 2001) and connections to Salvadoran death squads (someone listed in Salvadoran government documents as a "manager" at Kos's Japultapeque Suites Hotel is also listed on websites as a board member of ANEP, which the US CIA counts as a right-wing pressure group that's connected to right-wing and pro-corporate death squads.

Imagine that! States' rights "progressive" Kos seems to have family members who are on the board of right-wing Salvadoran groups that sponsor death squad activity! He's quickly becoming the Papa Doc of the American left, brooking no criticism and trying to crush anyone who gets in his way.

A lot of Blacks are saying, "Kos is a white progressive. What's that got to do with ME?!" Well, if a white pseudo-progressive who favors states' rights (otherwise known as pro-slavery) is trying to take over the Democratic Party, where will that leave Black people if he is allowed to succeed? If we can't even post at DailyKos without being booted out, imagine how hard it will be to be seated at as a Democratic delegate if Kos' minions take over the Democratic Party! If people connected to his family are torturing and killing peasants in El Salvador, imagine what they're going to do with US BLACKS in the US when they get done "crashing the gates" of the Democratic Party!

An ounce of prevention is better than a world of hurt.

Anyway, now that everyone knows of his CIA connections, even white people are going to treat him like a leper.

This is the reason why I left my church. Not Jesus, but my church. I don't need Prosperity Preaching Pimps.

I get infuriated when I see them. They are SOOOOO off the tradition of the Black church.

you are right. It seems that people are manipulating the fears of people. Faith based fears are the easiest to manipulate.

Ive met this clown. He was roaming about maryland like John trhe Baptist in support of my boy Mike "I'm not Lexington" Steele. Luckily there were (1) enough black folks with sense who did vote and (2) gullible bammas and assorted Tyler Perry fans who stayed home, thus this dude and Steele were stopped dead in their tracks. Still, the "Bishop" was interviewed and on talk shows, and that's consequence of too few blacks in the newsroom...

Mmmm the good Bishop shilling for a repub-lie-can candidate. Why am I not surprised?

You are correct to imply that a black man shunning a hate crimes bill because of added protection it would afford gays is a conflict of interest. I would take it a step further and paraphrase the Hitler-era adage: "When they came for the communists, it wasn't me so I kept quiet. When they came for the Jews, it wasn't me so I kept quiet...etc... When they finally came for me I was all alone."

Yeah... I saw that ad also... made me sick to my stomach.

These are the preachers who are on Bush's Faith Based (Please get your congregation and other Black folks to vote for me) Payroll.

I wonder how many educational programs, how much food pantry items, how many after school programs, and how many job training programs they could have helped to fund with the money that they used for that ad.

It's strange to see them going all out for this.... but barely make a whimper about so many other more important issues for their communities.

You can ask Jackson and "Bishop" Eddie Long about feeding on that Faith-Based Money Tit. Jesse, Al and Louis Farrakhan all dissed Long at New Birth when Tavis Smiley held his annual "Negro Super Bowl" (read State of the Black Union") conference back in 2005.

A week or two before the conference, Eddie Long and Bernice King (daughter of Martin and Coretta) lead a protest march against similar legislation up for consideration in the Georgia State House. When word of this got back to Tavis, he called Long and threatened to pull the SOBU from New Birth and go elsewhere.

Eddie, never one to miss out on possible cash, shut the hell up about gay rights until the Tavis event was over. He also kept Bernice under wraps (she's an Associate Minister there) and out of sight of anyone who would have recognized her, because one of his panelists was well-known journalist and activist Keith Boykin, who happens to be gay.

I call Eddie, Harry and their ilk "Rent-A-Preachers" because they hire out for rent to support any issue, say they're doing it in the name of Jesus and get a check all in one fell swoop.

They make it hard for Christians like me, because my friends can't get past the $300K Mercedes Maybocs, private jets and palatial mansions these preachers have as part of their lifestyle in serving Jesus.

Any preacher preaching prosperity before getting your soul saved is a jack-legged preacher. I should know; my dad's side of the clan featured a whole lot of preachers, some of 'em too illiterate to even read the Bible, let alone preach what it says. And it was my own father who pointed it out to me while hoping I'd never grow up and present him a preacher as a son-in-law, because he'd believe he'd have to shoot the guy for doing what pimpin' preachers do. My father felt I could do better, LOL.

'Hate-crimes' bill to muzzle Christians?
House urges committee to include 'sexual orientation' in federal law

The House of Representatives has voted to urge a conference committee to add "sexual orientation, gender and disability" to federal hate-crimes law, a development some observers say would muzzle Christians who speak out against homosexuality.
On Sept. 28, the House voted 213-186 to pass a procedural motion encouraging a conference committee to include the hate-crimes legislation in the final version of the Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 4200).

In June, Sens. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., and Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., introduced the new language meant to protect homosexuals as an amendment to the Senate's version of the Defense Authorization Act. The Senate measured passed by a vote of 65-33.

The bill imposes special fines for those who commit a "hate crime" against a protected class and provides federal assistance to those prosecuting such crimes. Existing hate-crimes law provides federal help to states and localities in prosecuting crimes based only on the victim's race, religion or national origin.

Christian activists believe that if passed and signed into law, the legislation could be used to target Americans who voice their opposition to the homosexual lifestyle – including pastors preaching and reading the Bible.

"Passage would literally throw open the door to attacks against people of faith, who could be prosecuted with federal monies for expressing their views on homosexuality!" warns Gary Cass, executive director of the Center for Reclaiming America.

Bob Knight, director of the Culture and Family Institute, says if it becomes law the legislation could be used to "muzzle public discussion of homosexuality and even someday silence pastors."

Knight commented, "It's a very dangerous bill, because it adds 'sexual orientation' to hate-crimes law, and it greatly expands federal jurisdiction.

"If your grandmother is mugged, it won't be a big deal [unless she is a lesbian]," Knight said. "And the law-enforcement authorities may have to put more of their revenues toward the mugging, say, of a homosexual guy walking down the street. Both deserve protection, but certainly the gay guy doesn't deserve more than your grandmother."

Wrote Knight in a WorldNetDaily column: "Homosexual activists have redefined any opposition to homosexuality as 'hate speech.' Laws already criminalize speech that incites violence. It's easy to imagine a scenario in which any incident involving a homosexual can be blamed on people who have publicly opposed homosexual activism."

Because it offers special protection to specific class of people, the legislation "violates the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution," Cass stated.

The Human Rights Campaign hailed last week's House vote.

"Congress should work to protect Americans, not discriminate against them," said HRC President Cheryl Jacques. "We laud Congress for this vote, especially Minority Leader Pelosi for offering this motion and working to get the overwhelming support of her peers. We urge conference committee members to take it to heart – keep the federal hate-crimes bill in conference committee."

According to HRC, the House passed a similar motion in September 2000 by a 232-192 vote, but that amendment was removed in conference committee. The homosexual-advocacy group claims the new hate-crimes language has been endorsed by more than 175 law-enforcement, civil-rights, civic and religious organizations.

As WorldNetDaily reported, a new law was passed in Canada that adds sexual orientation as a protected category in the nation's genocide and hate-crimes legislation, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Opponents of the new law fear the Bible will be deemed "hate literature" under the criminal code in certain instances, as evidenced by the case of a Saskatchewan man fined by a provincial human-rights tribunal for taking out a newspaper ad with Scripture references to verses about homosexuality.

Earlier this year in Sweden, which also has strict hate-crimes laws, a pastor was arrested at his church after he began reading Bible verses condemning homosexuality.

Some states have included sexual orientation in their state hate-crimes laws. Last month, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill expanding that state's statute to include not only homosexuals and transgendered people but also people who merely associate with those who are part of a protected class.

"While every hate crime represents a personal tragedy for the victim, hate crimes also are an attempt to intimidate a larger group or community of people," the bills' author, Senator Sheila Kuehl, told 365gay.com. "Hate crimes tear at the fabric of our society and it is important that we have a strong and effective response to them."

In Pennsyvlania, pastors are concerned they could be targeted under that state's new hate-crimes law, which added "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" as motives that trigger heavier penalties for the crime of "harassment."

The Center for Reclaiming America is urging citizens to contact the House members and senators who are on the conference committee to ask them to remove the hate-crimes language from the final bill.

A spokeswoman from the House Armed Services Committee told WND the conference committee's goal is to finalize the bill by Friday, the day Congress is scheduled to adjourn for the month.
