When talking gets real.

The Jesse Williams (Not Jackson) acceptance speech at the 2016 BET Awards was all that.

The Field Negro education series continues.

This award is not for me. This is for the real organizers all over the country, the activist, the civil rights attorneys, the struggling parents, the families, the teachers, the students that are realizing that a system built to divide and impoverish and destroy us cannot stand if we do. It’s kinda basic mathematics: the more we learn about who we are and how we got here the more we will mobilize.

“This award is also for the black women in particular who have spent their lives nurturing everyone before themselves -- we can and will do better for you.

“Now, what we’ve been doing is looking at the data and we know that police somehow manage to de-escalate, disarm and not kill white people every day. So what’s going to happen is we’re going to have equal rights and justice in our own country or we will restructure their function and ours.

“I got more, y’all. Yesterday would have been young Tamir Rice’s 14th birthday so I don’t want to hear any more about how far we’ve come when paid public servants can pull a drive-by on a 12-year-old playing alone in a park in broad daylight, killing him on television, and then going home to make a sandwich.

“Tell Rekia Boyd how it’s so much better to live in 2012 than 1612 or 1712. Tell that to Eric Garner, Sandra Bland.

“The thing is though, all of us here are getting money, that alone isn’t going to stop this. Dedicating our lives to getting money just to give it right back to put someone’s brand on our body -- when we spent centuries praying with brands on our bodies, and now we pray to get paid for brands on our bodies?

“There has been no war that we have not fought and died on the front lines of. There is no job we haven’t done, there is no tax they haven’t levied against us, and we have paid all of them.
“But freedom is always conditional here. ‘You’re free!’ they keeping telling us. ‘But she would be alive if she hadn’t acted so… free.’  Now, freedom is always coming in the hereafter, but the hereafter is a hustle: We want it now.

“Let’s get a couple of things straight. The burden of the brutalized is not to comfort the bystander -- that’s not our job so let’s stop with all that. If you have a critique for our resistance then you’d better have an established record, a critique of our oppression.

“If you have no interest in equal rights for black people then do not make suggestions to those who do: sit down.

“We’ve been floating this country on credit for centuries, and we’re done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment like oil -- black gold! -- ghettoizing and demeaning our creations and stealing them, gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit.

“Just because we’re magic doesn’t mean we’re not real. Thank you.” [Source]

No sir, thank you.

"This award is also for the black women in particular who have spent their lives nurturing everyone before themselves"

That's about 10% of black women.

A Black Panther Forever said...

well if that was 10%.... you should be thankful that the other 90 is not representing. (Black women has always carried our trifling men in America. That may be alright in our native culture,,, but here no)

An old adage. Hear the speaker, not see the speaker. a good moment to close your eyes and believe. The message has always to stick together as one. Divide and conquer is a simple plan... but ut works by the master race. Explain how 5% rule the rest. or even 1% controlling all. Very simple.

In Italy, a 10% fall in the stock market following the Brexit vote clearly signals the country’s vulnerability to a full-blown banking crisis – which could well bring the populist Five Star Movement, which has just won the mayoralty in Rome, to power as early as next year.

The Five Star Movement is a non Cathedral leftist movement. Much like Bernie Sanders. Their economic program is, like that of Bernie Sanders, pure self destructive evil madness, akin to the flagellant movement that flogged each other to show how holy they were, but, like Bernie Sanders, they are outflanking the Cathedral on the left and, like Bernie Sanders, trying to produce a leftism that is not held together by hating white heterosexual males, the destruction of the white race, and the physical destruction of white civilization.

Instead, they hate the economic system that produces stuff, and propose to replace it by a program of not producing stuff, since actually producing stuff is low status and insufficiently Holy. I suppose everyone will earn their living by doing socially conscious puppetry and artisanal basket weaving.

The bottom line is that switching to fast boiling the frog, declaring that there was no such thing as an illegal immigrant, that everyone in the world had the right to live and vote in white countries, rob their citizens, rape their women, and receive welfare, gave the game away. Too many people can now see what is coming down the road.

You moved too fast, and now the fire is lit.

Let the Great Burning begin.

When blacks "stick together as one", they are dividing America so that it may be conquered by our hostile parasitic elite.

The master race in America for the past 50 years has not been "white", not they admit.

On average, Democrats use guns for shooting the innocent. We call that crime.

On average, Republicans use guns for sporting purposes and self-defense.

If you don’t believe me, you can check the statistics on the Internet that don’t exist. At least I couldn’t find any that looked credible.

But we do know that race and poverty are correlated. And we know that poverty and crime are correlated. And we know that race and political affiliation are correlated. Therefore, my team (Clinton) is more likely to use guns to shoot innocent people, whereas the other team (Trump) is more likely to use guns for sporting and defense.

That’s a gross generalization. Obviously. Your town might be totally different.

So it seems to me that gun control can’t be solved because Democrats are using guns to kill each other – and want it to stop – whereas Republicans are using guns to defend against Democrats. Psychologically, those are different risk profiles. And you can’t reconcile those interests, except on the margins. For example, both sides might agree that rocket launchers are a step too far. But Democrats are unlikely to talk Republicans out of gun ownership because it comes off as “Put down your gun so I can shoot you.”

Hey Field you see the BET awards? I know, probably not but watch it to check out my man Air Force Maj. Kenyatta Ruffin. He was given an award for founding his non-profit Tuskegee Next which has given free plane rides for over 5,000 students and inspired others to follow in his footsteps. He's a bad boy, he started in camps here in the Chicago area and when he was a kid wanted to be an astronaut but had to settle for being an F-16 fighter pilot. Graduated from the Air Force Academy with honors with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering so you know he's the real deal. Check him out when you get a chance.

Powerful speech, reminding me how much wasn't delivered with the Civil Rights Act of the 60's, and how much backsliding there's been even of that. But imagine how much racism would persist if we had economic justice in this country, if there were even something approaching a "level playing field." (I'm the product of something close to that in the 50's, but only for white kids, of course, and the steep corporate tax structure that financed my education was only temporary)

A lot of racism is a result of callous, stupid profiling that wouldn't have a foothold if blacks, en masse, had access to decent education and hence middle-class jobs. No more high crime rates in black communities,"scary" black kids and all the rest of it. (And it's not just blacks who get shorted. With good public education generally, you'd see lot fewer ignoramuses trolling here!)
Bernie Sanders may be a joke now, but the revolution he calls for has to happen. Spotlighting racism is only trying to put a band-aid on the underlying problem. The biggest crime in the country takes place every day, all over, when poor neighborhoods get shorted on services and where children's education is a joke. Most of you know this, I know this, but it's so easy to lose sight of. Fix the 99%-1% system that Bernie talks about—and that will require 1,000 individual remedies, working over time—and racism will fade into the backwoods.

We had that up until the 70's. Pretty much right up until the Reagan revolution. Factories provided good blue collar jobs as did the government. Thousands of blah follks joined the middle class due to government jobs which were barred from discriminating. Not sure if this is why Reagan started the war on government which continues today but it may have something to do with it. Just look at the blatant attempts to kill the Post Office which has led to many Americans living middle class lives.

anotherbozo said...

@PilotX: Agree that with Reagan, most of the gains of the sixties quickly eroded. Everybody who wasn't already rich began to get the shaft, what with the fraud that was "trickle down," just an excuse to give the rich more tax breaks at everyone else's expense. And now here we are, with the lunatic Tea Party having gerrymandered its way into power and an early admirer of Ayn Rand (!) leading the Senate. Only ray of hope is the probable election of a compromised democratic president who at least will appoint a sane justice or two as old corporation-loving Bush appointees die off. But my hopes (however vain) are with the kids ignited by Bernie, the BLM group and other quasi-organized malcontents. The rest of the country just watches Kim Kardashian's ass and other shiny objects.

Joder La Resistencia said...

Factory work and other blue collar jobs started to disappear long before Reagan took office. And middle class incomes grew/middle class grew during the 1980's.

Unlike during the obama years where the middle class is dying and there has been no net growth in middle class incomes.

Blatant attempts to kill the Post Office? Did you miss the last billion dollar bailout of the Post Office?

Blah blah...

Just for shits and giggles, tell us how much middle class incomes/the middle class has grown under obama's policies bozo.

And let's compare that to the growth of the middle class during the 1980's.

@Kinky: If you really want to know the truth (a doubtful premise), I'd suggest a lot of the back articles of economist Paul Krugman, sociologist Robert Reich or political blogger Charles P. Pierce. PX: Remember what Lee Atwater said about tax cuts and service cuts? That white racists will vote for them because they feel that they hurt "those people" more than they they hurt themselves? Not sure whether that has ever been true, but it did win some elections for them.
And as for the middle class and wages, they were flat during Reagan, increased under Clinton, stalled out after the first Bush recession, and were stomped into the dirt by the financial crash/ housing bubble burst at the end of the Bush presidency. Obama has tried to pass some jobs legislation, but the Republicans would vote to castrate themselves before agreeing with him, so nothing has happened since he saved the economy from a second great depression with a stimulus bill that was too small and didn't last long enough, but was all he could get at the time. Reagan hagiography is dumb, like Reagan himself was dumb.

You people are absolute idiots. Anyone who was alive in the seventies and had more than half a brain remembers the complete implosion of the economy under Carter and the way things rebounded under Reagan and pretty much stayed that way until 9/11, Bush's Neocon adventures, and Obama's disastrous war on America.

The 90's boom was due to the cold war bonus, the internet boom, and the Republican congress forcing welfare reform and balanced budget efforts on Clinton.

Conservative economic policy works, but we haven't had a conservative President since '92 or a conservative congress since 2000.

Obama has been in power for over 7 years. He had a completely democrat congress for two years, a democrat senate for 6 years, and has a republican congress today that rolls over on almost everything of substance. Despite historically low energy prices that provide a huge real stimulus to the entire economy, despite the Fed printing free trillions for 7 years that provides a huge fake stimulus, wages and job growth are still stagnant.

This is Obama's Fail.

As jobs dry up they will buy into the belief we can bring jobs back. Trump is saying it but we need action to make it happen. Pelosi passed a bill that gave tax incentives for companies opening up factories here instead of tax breaks for relocating overseas. If the Dems trumpet their platform and speak up about their efforts this will be a landslide.

I think it is true, paint a blah face on government assistance and you can get lots of resentment even if you yourself are on such. Funny though, Reagan himself pulled out of a recession because of a glut of government jobs. The most recent recovery would have been more robust had we had the benefit of government jobs, the employer of last resort. Huge problem is that conservatives have demonized government so badly that even when it acts in our benefit they still want to destroy it. Shrug.

dinthebeast said...

Reagan got a more "V shaped" recovery because the recession itself was brought on by the fed raising interest rates in order to stem inflation, so all he had to do was lower them again and reverse course. Interest rates have been at the zero lower bound throughout Obama's presidency, so he didn't have that option. And you're absolutely right about Government jobs, if you superimpose the employment numbers of the two recoveries, the difference in slope nearly matches the lack of public sector hiring in Obama's term, a self-imposed injury brought on by the morons demanding budget cuts in a recovering economy without the ability to lower rates to speed things up. But who cares if millions of people suffer a few extra years as a result of the damage Republicans did to the economy if they can make Obama look bad in the process (to people not paying attention.)

True, there was also Reagan's stubborn refusal to cut military spending while cutting all other government programs including school lunch programs. Even a modest cut to military spending would have gone a long way, I read somewhere we were spending about 34 million dollars an hour on the military buildup. That would also have lowered the deficit.
