Black rage is now manifesting itself in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and there has been protest all over the country due to the latest televised state killing of another black man on one of the nation's streets.Black folks are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Like Eric Garner, this man also pleaded for his life, as he told the officer -who literally had his foot on his neck- that he could not breathe. It made no difference to the officers present that bystanders were also pleading with them to stop, all their pleas fell on deaf ears.
Now, as buildings burn and stores get looted, we are watching a sad and tragic recurring theme play itself out in what is already a trying time to be living through. Personally, I would prefer if these protesters did not destroy the neighborhoods where they have to live, but I don't know if I can blame them at this point, given the level of frustration and pent-up rage that they have been living with.
In a way, this is indicative of what it means to be living through a trump presidency. Mr trump has emboldened every racist in America to act on their hatred. And, as a result, we have vigilantes chasing down and killing an unarmed black man, and a woman using the power of her whiteness to threaten a black man with Emmett Till style justice if she can't have her way.
When Mr. trump asked black Americans what we had to lose by voting for him, the answer was easy: Our lives.

In the report of the Miami Study Team on Civil Disturbances—put together as part of the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence’s effort to analyze the spate of riots, assassinations, and civil conflicts that marked the 1960s—we can see some evidence as to the effects of Headley’s “tough on crime” policy.
The study team looked at civil disturbances that unfolded in the neighborhood of Liberty City, Miami, in the week of Aug. 5, 1968, collecting testimony from community members and assembling a dossier of local news coverage of the events. The underlying causes of the 1968 unrest, the study team found, were common to many black communities. In the early 1960s, the state routed Interstate 95 through the neighborhoods in the city core where black people once lived, displacing thousands, writes Eric Tscheschlok in a history of the unrest. Many moved to a black neighborhood called Liberty Square, in the northwest of the city, which became Liberty City. Residents suffered, paying high rents mostly to absentee white landlords, who squeezed tenants for back rent by cutting off power and water, and refused to do repairs to their buildings. Sanitation was poor, and the Dade County Department of Public Health found in 1966 that black infant mortality was double that of the white population. There was a chronic lack of employment opportunities.
But it was Headley’s policies, the study team found, that were the spark for the violence and looting in August 1968. The rest of the press conference where Headley turned the “looting = shooting” phrase was just as brutal. Apparently provoked by several recent murders in the black community, Headley told the press that he planned to send “double patrols” out with “shotguns and guns.” “Felons will learn that they can’t be bonded out from the morgue,” the Miami Herald recorded Headley saying. Queried on the matter, the chief said that he was aiming this “get tough” policy at what the paper called “young Negro males, from 15 to 21,” and what Headley called “young hoodlums who have taken advantage of the civil rights campaign”—basically, the kinds of young people who refused arrest by telling officers they knew their rights.

I don't know why young black males are killing each other. Post-Christian nihilism? The destruction of the family, where so many boys are raised by women? The excuse that they have no other choices in an oppressive society? The sense that they are entitled to destroy as revenge for the way their ancestors were treated? revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.

I've said this many times. America has dumped trillions of dollars into the black community creating an unnatural environment where we were force fed how America was home of the free and the brave , where all the while being crammed into the worst housing, with the worst schools, grocers, city services, etc., experiencing little of the freedoms written into the constitution. Why not invest in those endeavors that would benefit all concerned and serve as a springboard for us to attain full citizenship? There are those in your community who still try to limit our access to public facilities based solely on the color of our skin and the texture of our hair. But that's not the will of the majority, and in spite of this we still are making progress.
The money would come into the community on Friday and be gone on Tuesday; back into the pockets of the politicians, landlords and merchants who were the real individuals who profited. This country took our history, our culture, language and labor and left us to assimilate into a society that didn't want anything to do with us. So when you say costs white America and not invested by white america I would say that money alone doesn't solve the problem of the emotional scars left from slavery, Jim Crow and from the subsequent ostracism by white americans.
It appears that we are the only ones told that the past doesn't matter. That we weren't slaves and you weren't slaveowners and we should somehow miraculously pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. I get it, but don't try to tell me my pain isn't real. I'm not concerned that you like me so much as I am that I am afforded all the rights and privileges of a U.S. citizen. I can work with you without having to be your friend. Look at our history here. Who has overcome more than we have? It seems the animus present is based on the fear of the races mixing. Personally, I feel there is not a more beautiful and feminine woman than the Black woman.
Before the Red Summer's systematic violence and destruction of our communities we proved that we were more than capable of flourishing in a capitalist society. The majority of us are gainfully employed and making significant contributions here in this country. When I look at my friends, relatives and associates I see success after success. Perhaps assimilation is impossible. Black and white people are very different. White society was built over thousands of years and the process changed people. 1200 years of no cousin marriage reduced clannishness and allowed for the kind of high trust society necessary for dynamic capitalism. Centuries of high execution rates eliminated to some degree impulsive and violent individuals and created a more orderly populace. It is very hard to force a people who didn't go through these processes to live to the standards of the majority society formed over many generations. In that sense, forcing blacks to live to white standards can be seen as the source of stress and dysfunction. The same is true for any minority trying to fit in to a culture designed for the majority.

I beg to differ with you here. From personal experience (I was happily married to a black man for 35 years until he died two years ago) I don't see differences so great that it would create problems if white people gave up their biases and respected everyone regardless of skin color, national origin, religion, or any other superficial categorization.
In my experience, I have known and interacted with many people who were members of different races and cultures. I know there are good honest people and bad dishonest people in all of them. And I have learned that if I treat everyone else with respect and kindness, I will get the same returned to me 99 percent of the time.

In places like London, which has reached the US level of 13% black, the same pathologies are emerging. Interestingly, this 13% commits the same 50% of murders that America's 13% do. Many have compared the response of the police to the armed anti-mask demos to the George Floyd demos and riots. The police responded to the latter far more than to the former, and why? We're in the middle of a cultural revolution. Churches being burned down, monuments being broken, stolen, or defaced. The government may not be doing it themselves like they did in China or the USSR but they're letting it happen and arresting anyone who tries to stop it.
