One giant step for voting rights.

There has been some good news from a couple of court rulings regarding voting rights, lately.

The first ruling was against the state of North Carolina, where state republican legislators have been watching their state turn slowly blue and decided to do something about it. They did what republicans always seem to try and do: limit access to the ballot box.

"A federal appeals court on Friday struck down the heart of a North Carolina voting law seen as the strictest in the nation, finding that Republican lawmakers intentionally discriminated against African-Americans when they passed it.

A divided 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that the measure's provisions "target African-Americans with almost surgical precision."

The ruling is just the latest court win for voting rights advocates. A different federal appeals court ruled this month that Texas's voter ID law is racially discriminatory and must be softened."

The Court said the right wing legislators targeted and went after African American voters with "almost surgical precision". Now that's some scary stuff.

Ya'll might want to think about that the next time you say that voting is not important.

The other favorable ruling for those who cherish our right to vote comes from Wisconsin.

"A federal judge threw out multiple aspects of Wisconsin's voter ID law on Friday, leaving the law itself intact but ruling unconstitutional many restrictions on voting passed by the GOP-controlled Legislature and Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

Two liberal groups filed a lawsuit in May challenging the laws, including a requirement that voters show photo identification. U.S. District Judge James Peterson agreed with arguments that the laws were enacted to benefit Republicans and make it harder for Democratic supporters to vote, and ordered a range of changes."

Whoops.


What's that they say? Oh yeah: "The best laid plans of mice and men always go awry".  






  

Certain people are fighting back.

It's close to Halloween, so I guess this explains why the legislature --and the courts--- in the state of Georgia are doing such scary things.


"Voting rights advocates are considering legal options after a Georgia judge denied their lawsuit that would have compelled the state to add 40,000 newly registered voters to the rolls.


Judge Christopher Brasher said voters whose registration applications were lost may cast provisional ballots in next week's election. But he declined to force Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp and counties to ensure voting for the thousands of new voters. The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the New Georgia Project, and the Georgia branch of the NAACP are weighing whether to appeal to the Georgia Supreme Court.


"You've got a situation that was designed to wreak havoc on the elections office if a large number of provisional ballots are cast," Julie Houk, a senior special counsel with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights' voting rights project, told The Huffington Post Wednesday. She said provisional ballots are "not an adequate remedy" because "registered voters are entitled to cast a regular ballot."


Voting rights advocates said the judge's decision could potentially disenfranchise thousands of people, a disproportionate number of whom are minorities, and disrupt Georgia's high-profile races for U.S. Senate and governor.


The voters in question were registered during a six-month drive by the nonpartisan New Georgia Project, led by state House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams (D). The group submitted more than 86,000 applications, a majority from young voters of color registering to vote for the first time, along with another 20,000 or so from other groups. Abrams' group alleges that 40,000 of those applications are mysteriously missing from the state's official voter rolls, and that the state has not provided an explanation. " [Source]


You Negroes better start paying attention to what is going on in America.


These new Jim Crow style tactics being carried out is serious business.


This was a long thought-out plan to reclaim the upper hand when certain people started feeling that they were losing political power in this country.  You Negroes (and brown people) coming out in full force (twice) to elect the first Negro president scared the s**t out of them, and so they decided to go to work.  


Speaking of certain people, one of them who wants to be president kind of let his real motivations for wanting that office slip out, recently.


" South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who is toying with the idea of a presidential bid, joked in a private gathering this month that "white men who are in male-only clubs are going to do great in my presidency," according to an audio recording of his comments provided to CNN.


"I'm trying to help you with your tax status," Graham says in the recording. "I'm sorry the government's so f---ed up. If I get to be president, white men in male-only clubs are going to do great in my presidency." The crowd is then heard laughing. [Source]

The suppression push.

I went to see "Flight" with Denzel Washington yesterday. Mrs. Field and I agree that it was a good movie, and Denzel might actually get an Oscar call for his role. (Spoiler alert!) Mrs. Field didn’t like the fact that her boy made his first interracial screen kiss. You sisters, I swear….

Anywhoo, on to more serious things. Once again the politricksters in the state of Ohio seem to be up to no good. This is worth watching because Ohio is where the rubber could meet the road come November 6th.

"With the presidential election happening in just four days, the battleground state of Ohio is once again a major piece of the election puzzle. Already a hotbed for controversial moves and measures concerning the voting rights of its citizens, the “Buckeye State” finds itself on the map again after Republican Secretary of State, Jon Husted, acknowledged that a data glitch could have an effect on thousands of voters ahead of November 6, wrote the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

33,000 updated registration records were felled by a glitch triggered by “change-of-address” records and were resent by Husted’s office to local election officials. Voter rights advocates contend that thousands of absentee-ballot requests may have been incorrectly rejected in Ohio due to the software snafu between the secretary of state offices and the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The Columbus Dispatch reports that county election boards did not have current addresses for a number of registrants.

Initially, up to 100,000 notifications of changed addresses from the bureau’s website did not make their way to the secretary of state’s offices. In just a year’s time, motor vehicles have been sharing its records with Husted’s offices in order to keep a correct tally of registered voters. The glitch was immediately discovered, with the majority of the group able to be processed. The remaining 33,000 records are said to be undergoing process, and the state’s election board promises that there will be enough time to power through the erroneous data.
In related news, a recent ruling in Ohio is especially troubling; this after United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit judges stayed an order that may disenfranchise voters who were directed incorrectly by poll workers to vote in the wrong precincts this disallowing their ballots to be counted. The Bush-appointed panel of conservative judges ruled that it was the voters’

responsibility to know the correct precinct and puts too much of an onus on poll workers. An appeal must be legally heard but it is possible that with less than a week before Election Day, nothing will be done. " [Source]

Here in America, the NAACP has asked for European election monitors to come watch for possible voter suppression going on in some places. Of course this does not sit well with certain people.

"United Nations monitors have no right or jurisdiction whatsoever to intrude upon the sanctity or integrity of the commonwealth's election process," Metcalfe, lead sponsor of the voter-ID legislation, said in a letter to Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele.

Aichele's spokesman, Ron Ruman, said decisions about who gets access to polling places was up to county judges of elections.

 

"Counties run elections in Pennsylvania," Ruman said. "We have nothing to hide and we are proud of the elections process." [Source]

Oh yes, this is the same Carol Aichele who did not know what the voter ID law says in her own state. Nice.

Over 300 of my brethren in the legal profession will be spread out over Philly as volunteers, and the dems will have over 2,500 on the ground all over Pistolvania. I am sure that the republicans will be doing the same thing.

Everyone remembers Gore v. Bush, and no one wants to see a repeat.

Fake video footage and very real voter suppression.

You would think that with all that money they have available to them (Almost a billion and counting.Thank you Supremes.) the news network for dummies would come up with a better ad. for attacking his Oness. We are used to FOX making up stuff to suit their narrative, but actually putting fake footage in an ad is over the top for an organization that styles itself as a legitimate news network. (Stop laughing. They really do think that they are legitimate)

"Fox News’ Executive Vice President of Programming, Bill Shine, tells Yahoo News, “The package that aired on ‘Fox & Friends’ was created by an associate producer and was not authorized at the senior executive level of the network.”

Stay classy winnguts; blame the "associate producer". The GOP already got their $100,000 worth of air time free of charge.

Someone needs to tell Flipper that if he plans to become president of the United States, it would help to learn how to spell A-m-e-r-i-c-a.

And I know, I know, as someone who likes to make up my own words and butcher the spelling of various words from time to time, I have no room to talk. But hey, I am not running for president of these divided states, and I am not paid a ton money to help run and coordinate a presidential campaign. 

Finally, I am glad that the AG took my advice and is all over this attack on our right to vote here in America.

"WASHINGTON -- Attorney General Eric Holder told African-American clergy leaders Wednesday that a wave of new state laws on voting and legal challenges to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 may jeopardize rights they helped fight for in the civil rights era.

"Despite our nation's long tradition of extending voting rights ... a growing number of our fellow citizens are worried about the same disparities, divisions and problems that - nearly five decades ago - so many fought to address," Holder told a meeting of the Conference of National Black Churches convened by the Congressional Black Caucus to discuss the laws.

"In my travels across the country, I've heard a consistent drumbeat of concern from citizens, who - often for the first time in their lives - now have reason to believe that we are failing to live up to one of our nation's most noble ideals. And some of the achievements that defined the civil rights movement now hang in the balance."

Holder spoke in response to an array of new voting measures enacted by several mostly Republican state governments that proponents say are needed to protect against voter fraud and to prevent illegal immigrants from voting. However, the mostly Democratic black caucus - along with several civil rights, voting rights and civil liberties groups - contends that the laws are really efforts to suppress the votes of minorities and others.

Since last year, at least 15 states have passed laws that include requiring people to show government-approved photo identification or proof of citizenship before they register or vote. Other changes that states have adopted or some legislatures are considering include restricting voter-registration efforts by third-party groups, such as the League of Women Voters and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; curtailing or eliminating early voting; doing away with same-day voter registration; and rescinding the voting rights of convicted felons who have served their time.

A study last year by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University says the changes could restrict voting access to 5 million people, most of them minorities, elderly or poor. The NAACP estimates that about 25 percent of African-Americans don't possess the proper documentation to meet ID requirements in some states; the figure is 11 percent for the overall population." Now I need all of you Negroes to get off your butts and start paying attention to what is happening in your country. People died so that you all could have the rights that you enjoy, now they are being chipped away by back room deals and greedy and unscrupulous poli-tricksters. Wake the f*&k up!

Winning back the White House by any means necessary.

My governor here in Pistolvania has been on a roll lately. He told women to just close their eyes and enjoy a foreign object poking around in their vagina, and his new budget proposal cuts college funding by over 600 million dollars. Then, to top it off, he is aligning himself with the rest of the charlatans and politricksters in his party by signing off on a nefarious plot to win back the White House and disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters here in Pistolvania.

By signing the voter ID bill, HB 934 into law here in Pistolvania, he has cemented his legacy as nothing more than a political hack who cares more about his party than the people of his state.

So why was House Bill-934 even necessary in the first place? Republicans claim that it will reduce voter fraud, but is that really necessary? Let's see now, between 2002 and 2007 the Justice Department found only 86 cases of voter fraud out of 300 million votes cast.  In Pistolvania we have had 20 million votes cast since 2004, and there has been exactly four (yes, FOUR) convictions for voter fraud. This little scheme to crack down on imaginary voter fraud is going to cost our state between five to eleven million dollars.

But we all know what this is all about. Pistolvania is a crucial swing state in the presidential elections, and the votes here are always close. Keeping those poor people, the elderly, and Negroes away from the voting booth could make a huge difference in the next presidential election. 

"They purveyors of voter fraud fear also have decades of practice. The modern crusade against voter fraud started in the civil rights era of the 1960s, with growing anxieties among white politicians and voters over the growing power of black and urban voters.

As historian Rick Perlstein documents, Republicans tapped into -- and inflamed -- these fears with outrageous claims of black voter fraud, which not only riled up the conservative base, but also laid the groundwork for "anti-fraud" campaigns that could depress Democratic turnout."

Ok, so it's all about politics. Well, two can play that game. Waiting for the Obama Justice Department to step in here and stop Pistolvania in 10-9-8-7-.......

Finally, I want to do something unpopular and what no other blogger will have the guts to do. I want to defend the hard core porn industry in this country.
Unfortunately, they are coming under attack from one of the republican presidential candidates.

"Rick Santorum has made a campaign promise to bar "hardcore pornography" from American websites, magazines and television, but industry giants who produce much of the nation's porn aren't worried that the crusading candidate will stop the multibillion dollar industry from churning out the next "Deep Throat."

"I don't see a danger," Michael Lucas, New York's largest producer of gay adult films, told Yahoo News. "There's no danger that he will be the Republican Party nominee."

Santorum's campaign posted a position paper on its website in February that vowed to "vigorously" enforce obscenity laws and restrict the distribution of hardcore pornography, which it says has reached "pandemic" levels. The former Pennsylvania senator said he will "prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier." WTF? I think I speak for every red blooded A-merry-can when I say that this is bull s*&^! So if Ricky is elected there will be no more porn available on our computers. This means that most of his supporters will not be able to secretly get their freak on with their Internet girl when they go home from bible studies.

This is why this guy is dangerous. Sorry Rick, we don't need Taliban style laws here in the land of the free legislating our morality.

"Pandemic levels"? I will tell you what has reached "pandemic levels": stupid "closed- minded" people. It has gotten so bad that some of them are actually running for president.
