I recently posted my review of the showdown in Saddleback, and I gave the edge to Mr. Morton. Well I am embarrassed to say, that I, like the rest of A-merry-ca, was hoodwinked.
Sorry for the bad review folks, it's looking like Mr.Morton and his peeps might have cheated. Yes, our war hero didn't play fair. Turns out that he wasn't in a "cone of silence" as the moderator (let's call him "Minnesota Fats" for his role in this little sting) and hustler extraordinaire hinted at. Nope, he was on his way to the church in his motorcade. And since his "O" ness was on stage at the very same time, getting the very same questions that were going to be asked of Mr. Morton; unless you still believe in the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, or republican family values, you know damn good and well that Mr. Morton was getting the goods. --No wonder his answers were so perfect----
Now I compared Mr. Morton to Smoking Joe; a man I know, and a man I consider to be a great champion. And all I can say is; Joe, I am sorry. You would never have gone into the ring with Ali with over sized gloves, or questionable liquids in your water bottle. No, you would have fought a fair fight. You would not have punched Ali after the bell, or below the belt during a clinch. So comparing you to McCain was an insult to you and everything you stood for.
Oh come on field, how do you know that McCain cheated? You have no proof of this. You are taking the word of a few operatives and the Obama people. Yes I am. And you know what? If I have to make a choice as to who I will believe, guess who is going to win? I will give you a hint: it ain't the war hero.
“The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous...” This is what one of Mr. Morton's surrogates had the nerve to tell us. As if a man who cheated on his wife, was a part of the "Keating Five", and who would damn near do anything to become President before he goes off to his final resting place in the desert, isn't capable of cheating.
To my readers I apologize. I should have played closer attention, I should have seen that the fix was in.

The old coot is a cheater.
Just like what he wrote in his autobiography about his first marriage and when he took up with the beer heiress.
He's a damned liar.
I've heard the "no proof" line several times today. What proof do they need? Why wouldn't they just say the "McCain is on his way"? Why lie when there is nothing to lie about?
That's okay FN - we all know you were still fuzzy from celebrating the Jamaica sweep over at the olympics - lol!
THE REPUCKLICANS RESPONSE, SENATOR MCCAIN COULDN'T REMEMBER ALL THOSE QUESTIONS NOR OBAMA'S ANSWERS DUE TO HIS MEMORY LAPSES!
So there's a debate at a church and Obama didn't see the abortion question coming? The church is saying Obama was given three questions early and McCain two. Regardless Obama looks a little too ponderous. He needs Clinton as a running mate but he won't do it.
szpork
ac, you might be right :)
"He needs Clinton as a running mate but he won't do it."
Stay tuned.
Anon 9:15--Ponderous? Since when is thinking before you speak a bad thing?
Like I said before, Obama gave thoughtful answers to the questions and tried to reach common ground. That's what a leader does. McCain acted like he was on Jeopardy and tried to answer the fastest with what he hoped was the right answer to the questions he heard on his way to the church: Rick Warren: "What should we do about ev--" McCain:"Defeat it, Alex! Er...Rick!"
Do we need a nother leader who thinks he knows the answers before examining the outcomes?
LMAO... Of course the RepubliKKKan's are going to try to shut this little "mistake" down. He was in the super stretched Satellite enabled, GPS swooped up Navigator with the radio turned off.......... GTFOH. If we let this go I guess they will win.
Obama was the true winner for showing up in an OC church filled with a bunch of WP's who wipe their asses with the dollar bills we shell out to the gas stations. He walked into enemy camp and was able to escape with dignity.
I'm standing behind the "O" Man He will take us to the promised land ;)
Kelly, Anon 9:15--"Ponderous? Since when is thinking before you speak a bad thing?

No, leaders have convictions and act accordingly. Common ground is OK for the State Department in some cases I guess but don't confuse that with leadership.

Field:
No need to apologize because if we all listened to the forum over and over again, would find something we did not pick up the first time. Quiet honestly, I thought Mr. Morton had heard the questions before coming out on the stage. He came out answering the questions before Mr. Fats had a chance to ask them. Rick Warren asked the same questions of both them. I did not pick the abortion question when he asked them both at what point do you think a baby have rights, which is a trick question because a baby is already born. However, pro-life people consider a fetus to be a baby, but that fuzzy logic. Hey did neither McCain or Obama pick up the word baby in the question.
Another interesting thing about the forum that I did not consider until I was listening to a talk show and the host brought it. Can you imagine if you were Mrs. Morton sitting there hearing your husband say that his biggest moral failing is that his first marriage failed? I did not say this, but the host mentioned that if she could frown which she cannot from the botox and really unable to make any facial expression, but I would imagine that she was just little peeved since she is responsible for that moral failing of the marriage breaking up. He should just said that I regret marrying the beer distribution heiress.
And from what I understand from watching the news that the McCain campaign came down on Andrea Mitchell from NBC for reporting the story and wrote a letter to head of NBC complaining. Let's see what happens.
I didn't know about his involvement with the Keating Five. It's not surprising since his former top economic adviser until this year was Phil Gramm, who helped destroy the housing market. They all work on behalf of the corporatocracy.
If McCain had gone first, and Obama was on the way in a motorcade and not in a cone of silence, there would be a weapons grade media blitz on Obama and questions about his integrity. The MSM and Fox would holler from the tops of the hills that Obama might have cheated for at least a WEEK. But, since it's McCain, this will all die down in about 48 hours or less.
I read that MCCan't had an ear piece in his ear and someone was feeding him the answers or questions. Is this true?
Anon: 10:48p
To my recollection, I did not see an earpiece in McCain's ear. In fact, I do not think there was one because there are quiet a few close ups during the time of the forum and it would have been obvious.
Not only did he have an earpiece, there was a microphone in his throat with the Vegas impressionist Danny Gans giving the answers in McCains voice. The answers were written by, guess who? DICK CHENEY of course..
Obama might have been drugged to. The sinister brilliant and evil republicans spiked his mineral water with a drug, just invented, to make the O man "ponderous" just at the right time.
The bats are flying tonight folks. If so many can so easily believe this, it aint a reach to blame black pathology AND african chaos on the brilliant evil whites.
Watch out for those black helicopters folks, you cant see them, cant hear them......but WE KNOW theyre there.
HA HA
Off-topic: Thanks for the spotlight, Field.
Brother Field,
Its not the the fact that you and everyone else got it wrong about the debate. Its the fact that the MSM WILL NOT CALL MR.MORTON(your name for him)OUT!! Hell, they will not even call Pastor Rick a liar, which he is in this case. Pastor Rick knew McCain was not in the cone! And to say he could not have heard the questions is a bigger lie! But what should we expect from the MSM, McSAME, and white evangelists!!!
B1bomber!!
Anon:
I do not think it's so farfetched that McCain listened beforehand. we are living informational/technological world. He would have a TV in the motorcade, and aids who were at the forum called him while he was in the car. It's not a ridiculous notion. There is no proof with the exception of McCain answering the question as if he was in the lighting round on a game show.
Hey now!
You mean McCain wasn't in the Cone Of Silence?
Oops.
Sorry about that, Chief...err, Field.
"Minnesota Fats"? LMFAO, you and those damn pet names.
But yeeeah nicca, what I tell you....ish was fixed like a boxing match. TV damn sure ain't no less shady when a Rev do it.
I can forgive you fawning all over Mr. Morton Field—
(though I got a bit nauseous)--but I hope that Obama
lets this be THE LAST TIME HE TRUSTS CHURCH PEOPLE ON THE DAMNED TV!
There!
Damn . . .
McCain won at the church full of white Evangelical Reaganites by showing himself to be a typical far right Republican and Obama won at the NAACP and the Urban League conventions by showing that he was black. Is it in proper perspective now? This "forum" didn't mean shit in terms of the outcome of this election.
Haha, "before he goes off to his final resting place in the desert". You rock dude, keep this shit up.
...and isn't it ridiculous that they have to bring up the fact that McCain was a POW? Who the hell cares? It's not relevant; stop flaunting it.
Let's kill everyone.
Anonymous 12:10 a.m.:
What happened at that forum was not about skin color, it was about integrity and honor, which McCain intentionally left out and has none of. People are not as stupid and mindless as the Republican party would like to think. What I witnessed was nothing more than the same cheating tactics that got Bush in the White House just a different method.
The American people are suffering behind and feeling the backlash from being taken in by those same old dirty Rove tactics used to win at all cost. Sometimes winning at all cost is not a good thing.
Let me remind everyone what John McCain himself said out his own mouth, "I play to win. I do whatever it takes to win. If I have to fuck my opponent to win I'll do it. If I have to destroy my opponent I won't give it a second thought." Those are John McCain's words not mine, because Granny don't cuss. Nonetheless, this is a good example of what type of person John McCain really is.
He hides behind his veteran status and uses it for a shield, but his veteran status does not give him the right to think that he can lie, cheat,do whatever he wants to do, and somehow it makes him untouchable or gives him immunity from being called on his dishonesty, or criticized.
In fact, he's a disgrace to veterans when he uses his veteran status as a shield to cover his dishonesty and dirty tactics. Being a veteran is an honorable service, but when one uses their veteran status as a scapegoat to cover deception, do things that are dishonorable, and cheat they disgrace that veteran status and should be stripped of it.
When Rick Sanchez interviewed Pastor Rick Warren, that pastor contradicted his own self statements and changed them several times. First, he said he talked to McCain, then he turned around and said he didn't get to talk to him. He couldn't even get his story straight.
People cried out for a change in the White House. They said they were tired of the dishonesty that has plague it for the last 8 years. All McCain has done in this election is personal attacks Obama, not the issues. Whereas, Obama has been attacking the difference in issues and not personal attacks towards McCain. Don't people see that McCain is using the same dirty tactics that Bush used to get elected into the White House. Americans are fickle and unstable. But this time around it's either or. We cannot afford another backlash as a result of dirty politics.
Hello there!
McCain? Dishonest? Really?
He cheats? Really?
Ya don't say...
Now what ever would make anyone think THAT??
{gasp}
Lisa
Hey Field Negro!
I didn't tell you CONGRATULATIONS on being a finalist!!
(smiles)
I told you that post from Mrs. Field would put you over the top now didn't I????
*chuckles*
Lisa
leota2,he should have learned after Rev. Wright to just chill on church routine for awhile.
Vaugn, thanks for the link.
undercover....you are welcome, you have a nice site there.
"The American people are suffering behind and feeling the backlash from being taken in by those same old dirty Rove tactics used to win at all cost. Sometimes winning at all cost is not a good thing."
Granny, I don't think these folks care how they win, as long as they are in power. You can't get rich and make your friends rich if you are not in power.
"No, leaders have convictions and act accordingly. Common ground is OK for the State Department in some cases I guess but don't confuse that with leadership."
Great point szpork.
anon.11:05PM, let me guess: you are a McCain supporter?
Didn't everyone's collective bell go off when McSame went all Miss Cleo and started answering questions Rick Warren hadn't even asked?? Did you notice how he wanted to go back to the Supreme Court justice question (go back? it wasn't asked yet) and spit out those 4 names (Warren just wanted one name) as if he needed to say it right then, least he forget them??
Now at what rally, townhall meeting, press conference, forum or debate has McSame EVER answered questions that quickly and forthright before? Never....but I should believe that at the one nationally televised forum that he was 30 minutes late for (isn't Obama the colored one?), he was just "on his game". PUHLEEZE. Why the hell is he "running late" for his first forum with the other presidential candidate? This ain't a lodge meeting. You know damn well they were supposed to be introduced together at the beginning and then he go off to the "cone fo silence".
Give. Me. A. Phucking. Break.
Let me borrow from my Mama-Belle, "If he'll cheat in God's house you know he don't give a damn bout nuttin!"
Funny how every Republican since Nixon is worried about proof and evidence rules and witnesses and investigation.
I did enforcement in the Philly area and rarely encountered such deniability from the Philly Mob.
Mold
Now brotha Field,
You shoulda know better than that. McCain was playing the game in his own back yard - of course he's going to cheat. It would have been surprising to me if he didn't cheat. Remember the GOP motto - "if you ain't cheatin, you ain't trying".
I remain impressed with Senator Obama. Regardless of the outcome in November, this is one politician who has earned my respect. If we elect McCain then we get what we deserve from politicans. If we elect Obama, then we get a chance to proove that we deserve better from politicians.
Peace, Naj in VA.
McCain's authoritarian base don't like long thoughtful answers. They want short, non-nuanced, black or white answers.
I had an exchange with one of these authoritarian types several years ago. I said, unlike Bush, Clinton (Bill) surrounds himself with the best minds on any given topic and makes his decision based on a consensus of experts.
My authoritarian, neo-con, fascist correspondent said, P L E A S E, Clinton was just not able to form his own opinion. Bush, he continued, may make a bad decision, but by god, once he makes that decision, he sticks by it! (WTF?)
I thought to myself, why do I bother? It's hopeless trying to talk to these people.
But it helps to know whose out there.
"I thought Mr. Morton had heard the questions before coming out on the stage."
I didn't watch, and haven't seen any clips, but from what I've read, McCain gave his standard sound bites whether they related to the question asked or not. I also read that the "same" questions were frequently not phrased identically for each candidate.
Agree that he could not "win" this event, but did the "O" man at least put to rest the rumor that he was raised as a Muslim (by his devoutly agnostic mother)?
Field- so far seven individuals have been barred from the olympics because of positive drug tests, from I think, six different countries; Jamaica being one. don't take it personal. Jamaican sprinters still shine brightly. I want to know what's up with the pool, the top five finishers are breaking world records.
And, what's with anyone, "O" man included, making any kind of grossly ill-informed comment about 'Black Liberation Theology'(the core of which boldly represents the revolutionary teachings of JC)? How dare they!
I know 'Bama and 'Cain share kinship with preachers, pimps, and politicians, but, gimme a break - "O" man obviously thinks (now that's a not-so-novel unamerican trait) before he opens his mouth. Meth'-Ecstasy fueled 'Cain boy was off his chain with (truly american)rapid-fire, 'look 'em-inda-eye', hair trigger, canned-rehearsed answers to the questions from our pope wannabe, Warren. Gimme a break!
Obama and his wife are too good for us. I'm extremely pissed off that anyone dare question their religious beliefs/practices and/or patriotism. Are you kiddin' me?! On the eve of the 'Great Historical Dem Convention', let's all pray that it will include speakers who speak with authentic balls and ovaries about where we are/going, and who the real domestic terrorists are(co-Cain man and Repugs included). Thank you.
Georgia "Flash"
Here is evidence that McCain heard questions asked of Obama:
Here is one question copied and pasted from the CNN website. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0808/16/se.02.html
QUESTION: Not good. 80 percent of Americans recently polled said they believe in merit pay. Now, for teachers, do you - I'm not asking do you think all teachers should get a raise. Do you think better teachers should be paid better? They should be paid more than poor teachers?
MCCAIN: Yes, yes, and find bad teachers another line of work. (APPLAUSE).
WARREN: You know, we're going to end this, you're answering so quickly. You want to play a game of poker?
Why did Warren make his comment? McCain just had a quick, concise and eloquent answer to the question. Can you find anything wrong with Mccain's answer?
The question above was for Obama!! Here is McCain's question:
WARREN: About 80 percent of America says they support merit pay for the best teachers. Now, I don't want to hear your stump speech on education.
MCCAIN: Yes, yes, and find bad teachers another line of work. (APPLAUSE).
WARREN: You know, we're going to end this, you're answering so quickly. You want to play a game of poker?
McCain answered Obama's question perfectly. Did not answer his own question well.
I don't see how this answer fits the question.
this blog was very interesting. but field, i must remind you that you might want to follow the content of these kinds of forums and debates instead of parroting the lame msm talking point about how mr. morton 'won'. i thought his answers were simplistic, idiotic, and moronic. especially when talking about evil, should have been the ultimate wake up to the american people that we don't need another war mongering buffoon for pres. next time, pay attention field...
Also note that there were possibly significant variations in the questions (in particular some ledes) asked of the two candidates.
@Anonymous @ 1:15 - interesting. more complete context:
WARREN: OK. Let's go to education. America right now ranks 19th in high school graduations. We're first in incarcerations.
OBAMA: Not good.
WARREN: Not good. 80 percent of Americans recently polled said they believe in merit pay. Now, for teachers, do you - I'm not asking do you think all teachers should get a raise. Do you think better teachers should be paid better? They should be paid more than poor teachers?
OBAMA: I think that we should - and I've said this publicly, that we should set up a system of performance pay for teachers, negotiated with teachers, worked with the teachers to figure out the assessments, so that they feel like they're being judged fairly, it's not at the whim of the principal. That it's not simply based on a single high stakes standardized test but the basic notion that teaching is a profession, that teachers are underpaid, so we need to pay them all more, but - and create a higher baseline, but then we should also reward excellence.
WARREN: Reward excellence.
OBAMA: I think that is a concept that all of us should embrace. [ applause ]
...
WARREN: Let's talk about education. America ranks 19th in high school graduations, but we're first in incarcerations. Everybody says they want more accountability in schools.
MCCAIN: Um-hum.
WARREN: About 80 percent of America says they support merit pay for the best teachers. Now, I don't want to hear your stump speech on education.
MCCAIN: Yes, yes, and find bad teachers another line of work.
WARREN: You know, we're going to end this, you're answering so quickly. You want to play a game of poker?
(APPLAUSE).
Field,
I wrote two blogs on this. Again Mr. Morton and Rich Warren [the republican]got caught with their pants down. The fix was in!
The pundits, their master's, and the oleagenous wealthy are fearing the coming of Obama. No longer will the IRS be staffed with Joel Osteens House O' Pancakes and Acccoutin' graduates. DOJ attorneys will have actual law degrees and a desire to incarcerate criminals. Whining to bureaucrats about your tax 'burden' will fall on very deaf ears.
Mold
un saluto a tutti voi da Scorzè, venezia.

"Whining to bureaucrats about your tax 'burden' will fall on very deaf ears."
Obama just lowered his capital gains tax projection from 28% to 20%. I think his deaf ears are listening very well.
szpork
Nobody's perfect Field. I hope you're still training for your run!
This is the least of Obama's problems.. plus Obama had a extra question in advance. Your becoming a paroit Field from MSNBC.
…Richard J. Daley Library Cone of Silence at the University of Illinois at Chicago…
Field,
I have enjoyed your comments and analysis on many issues, but I do not believe you are correct on this one.
I believe McCain and Obama both anticipated the questions they would receive from a minister of Protestant Evangelical Church. Not to mention the fact that Rev. Rick Warren is a friend of both Obama and McCain.
Obama is a skilled attorney, law professor and commincator and McCain has had a lot of experience in dealing with Protestant Evangelicals.
Come on! The questions that Rev. Warren asked were not even difficult. They are not questions that either candidate has not considered (or answered) before.
While I have a great deal of respect for you and your views (and I happened to agree with much of what you write), I do not think McCain needed to gain an edge anymore than a Math Professor would need to know the equations on a basic algebra exam before taking it. Niether would Obama!
All the best to you,
Adam
