Saint Juan!

OK, enough of this already! Juan, we all agree; maybe NPR should not have fired you. Censoring someones speech is never cool. But Juan, you have got to stop the woe is me pity party that you keep throwing over there at Radio Rwanda. We get it! You are their token Negro, and they love you. (How much head patting can one Negro take?) But it's getting a bit pathetic now.

BTW, I know folks call me a racism chaser, but are there any bigger racism chasers in A-merry-ca than the Radio Rwanda folks? Now they are throwing the race card into your firing? Come on, Juan, for the sake of all that is decent; please make them stop!

"..It's a howling double standard. The standard being applied to Juan Williams is manifestly not being applied to other NPR people. And I think it is simply this, that in the culture of NPR, appearing on Fox is a sin. And in the culture of NPR, for an African American man like Juan, regardless of his extraordinary stature, to be there and be kind of a Bill Cosby liberal, not a down-the-line liberal, is a sin as well. They have been gunning for him for years. These remarks about Muslim garb at airports was merely a pretext. They have been wanting to get him, and got him, and in so doing exposed themselves for who they are..."

Huh? WTF is a "Bill Cosby Liberal"? Leave it to these clowns at Radio Rwanda to take this to a whole other level. See what you are causing, Juan? Although, hey, maybe you love being the new martyr of the right. A regular Catherine Of Alexander. You are the new wingnut saint of victim- hood. And if it's one thing we know that wingnuts love to do is play the victim role. They are victim experts.

Finally, I can't let a post go without taking one more shot at my man, Uncle C.

"He was always actively watching the women he worked with to see if they could be potential partners," McEwen told the Post, adding that he was particularly "partial to women with large breasts" and even would ask woman about their bra size.

"He was obsessed with porn," McEwen also said of Thomas, a claim that is particularly relevant to Hill's allegations that the then-chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission had repeatedly relayed scenes from pornographic movies to her. "He would talk about what he had seen in magazines and films, if there was something worth noting," McEwen continued.

As for why McEwen has decided to break her silence now, the Post explains that the woman who partook in Thomas's "freewheeling sex life" between 1981 and 1986 has a story to tell.

She has written a memoir, which she is now shopping to publishers. News broke that the justice's wife, Virginia Thomas, left a voice mail on Hill's office phone at Brandeis University, seeking an apology -- a request that Hill declined in a statement. After that, McEwen changed her mind and decided to talk about her relationship with Thomas."

Maybe Virginia should be calling Ms. McEwen and not Ms. Hill. Sounds like she is going to be doing more damage to Uncle C's legacy. *shaking head*

Still, you know what's shameful about all of this? That Uncle C's proclivity to get his freak on is clouding a more serious and potentially scandalous issue: The fact that his wife is a right wing activist who raises millions of dollars to support causes that are connected to cases that her husband, the supreme court justice, has to hear. That is the shame of all of this. But here in A-merry-ca we don't care, because we have gotten used to such sleaziness. And no, I am not talking about Uncle C's breast fetish.

I find it incredulous that FOX News would complain about racism in light of the fact
1) They face a 5 million dollar lawsuit for racial discrimination
2) They regularily attack blacks and other minorities on their programs, especially their hosts' radio programs
3) They fired Marc Lamont Hill because a white shareholder doesn't like smart blacks (and those that sign petitions- so much for free speech, eh?)

So I don't wanna hear any complainst from Race-baiter central about being race baited.

Where's the justice, Field?

Field, "OK, enough of this already! Juan, we all agree; maybe NPR should not have fired you."

'Maybe' NPR should not have fired Juan? MAYBE?

"See what you are causing, Juan? Although, hey, maybe you love being the new martyr of the right."

NPR caused the fall-out, not Juan. You alluded to that in your opening statement. So what gives?

As far as the martyr bit, Juan WAS wronged. He lost his job and didn't even receive the courtesy of a 'face to face' firing. That was a cowardly thing for Weiss and that bonehead Schiller to do.

Someone needs to fire BOTH of them 'over' the phone-like they did to Williams.

Field, I bet the CEO and the Director of News at NPR will be gone within the next few weeks.

Juan has garnered more public sympathy and popularity than ever. He will have his revenge. I can't wait.

Actually, they should close down NPR. It is a racist organization and has little worthwhile programming anyway.

"Shortly after he joined the Supreme Court, Thomas told the court's in-house newsletter that his wife had had to rein in her political opinions because of his new job.

"It has interfered with her freedom to express herself the way she really wants to," Thomas said. "She has had to learn to live with that and be more constrained. Because she has strong opinions on things."

Well it's a good thing she has restrained herself on behalf of her husband, Justice Thomas. Just goes to show you how helpful it is to have a wife who supports you.

I smell a resignation coming or at the very least, a divorce. That woman is in the process of destroying CT. Her actions sure seem planned and orchestrated.

Given some of the whacko things Juan Williams has said over the years on Fox and NPR (he said the first lady looked like Stokley Carmichael scoring a racist and sexist remark on multiple levels), they should have fired that Law Jockey years ago. He looks like Larry Elders, and sadly, sounds too much like him more often than not.

Clarence Thomas' wife knows that dude's got serious issues, like many of these right wing crazies, particularly the Black GOP mouthpieces. Those of us who have read CT's autobiography knows this brother has problems with Black people in general and light-skinned Black folks in particular. Armstrong Williams likes boys on the side, Lloyd Marcus hates everyone in the projects and Alan Keyes issues are too numerous to count.

Again, the fact that Ginny Thomas called Ms. Hill after all these years is telling, because Anita Hill has been invisible for almost two decades and never wanted to be in the spotlight in the first place. Remember, Anita Hill was forced out of anonymity by the press during the Senate Hearings and has all but been in witness protection since Thomas became a justice. IF she were some lefty hack just looking to sink a good conservative Black man, she would have done a national book tour.

The thing lost in this Williams saga is he was defending a professional race baitor(O'Reilly). It's funning how all of these tough guys are so scared all the time. They do look ahead to the future which is part of the reason they use races, and now religions that are different from theirs for the constant fear campaigns. In 2050 it's said that the 'minorities' will outnumber White Folks. I heard in St. Paul Mn, The Hmong people are opening their own mall. African Americans have been here at least since the 1500's, and we can't/won't pull our money to create jobs like that. I know there's folks who have pulled strings to prevent that from happening, but how long will we let excuses hold us back?

Oh pleeeze. Juan didn't create this media mess, NPR did. Why are you so focused on Williams instead of the obviously major screw-up that racist NPR did? That's because you are a Coon. Make sure you add yourself to that list.

Juan isn't loved just at Fox. He is loved by millions of Americans.

Some of you folks don't seem to get that. If he wasn't so loved, there wouldn't be such a backlash by so many across America.

People respect Juan, whether Field and his little ban of little people do or not.

Juan had have known that that NPR was going to let him go, he didn't figure that out in January 2009 when he and Fox were asked not to use NPR News Analyst whenever he appeared on a Fox show. That gives me an indication that he had been previously warned about personal feelings. It may have not been a matter of infringing on his free speech than being not following rules of the employer. He has a right to his opinion, but it wasn't very clear about what he was saying was a fact or an opinion. How does he know if many Americans are uneasy about seeing people in Muslim garb, or agreeing with O'Reilly as if something he said was a fact. It is the reason why NPR asked Williams to clarify his statements, and he didn't, so they fired him. It's simple he was paid to be an news analyst (journalist) to give an un-bias reporting of the news, not a columnist or Commentor to give his opinion about the news. I had argument with someone the other day who didn't realized that Juan Williams is a journalist and I do give him credit for the writing the book "Eyes on the Prize" that should be required reading in school on the Civil Rights Movement. I would like to know what happened to that Juan Williams, I guess he got seduced by Fox News. Well now he will be paid to give his opinion on Fox News all day because I don't think he is going back to being a journalist again.

@ Hathor:

Washinton Examiner Oct.9, 2010:

...it’s well documented that the 2008 Obama campaign did not put in place address verification software that would have routinely prevented most foreign donations. In effect they were encouraging donations by foreign nationals. Here’s the Washington Post on this back in October 2008: "Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is allowing donors to use largely untraceable prepaid credit cards that could potentially be used to evade limits on how much an individual is legally allowed to give or to mask a contributor’s identity, campaign officials confirmed. Faced with a huge influx of donations over the Internet, the campaign has also chosen not to use basic security measures to prevent potentially illegal or anonymous contributions from flowing into its accounts, aides acknowledged.” . . .

Remember, Obama and his labor/PAC allies ran a BILLION dollar campaign in 2008, $400 million from outside sources. How much was foreign money? Obama aint tellin', but it was a good chunk of change to be sure.

Obama, speaking at a Philadelphia rally Sunday:

"There's no question the other side sees a chance to get back in the driver's seat," Obama said. "They are being helped along this year by special interest groups that are spending unlimited amounts of money on attack ads ... just attacking people without ever disclosing who's behind all these attack ads. You don't know. It could be the oil industry. It could be the insurance industry. It could even be foreign-owned corporations. You don't know because they don't have to disclose."

Could be Santa effing Claus, who knows? Obama has no proof whatsover, but that's not gonna stop him from throwing that out there. But what we do know, in terms of what's actually been disclosed, is that democrats have received at least twice the amount of money in foreign contributions than republicans have.

There are way more educated Black people in this comment thread than me, but I'd like to address the whole "Bill Cosby..." statement.

Bill Cosby is an apologist for White Racism, IMHO. He's the first and loudest person to advocate the use of the term "African-American" (like we're tourist who just decided to stay) back in the eighties, and ever since then he pops up to issue stern lectures about how Black people need to get their ish together.

I'm very sorry for his loss, and Black on Black violence is indeed a huge issue, but I haven't cared much for the man since about 1987.

To my mind being called a "Bill Cosby Black" or whatever the hell Juan was called is no compliment.

amen for bill cosby!

Excerpts from Come on People: On the Path from Victims to Victors by Bill Cosby and Dr. Alvin Poussaint:

We remember the injustice of how slavers brought our people to America, but we have forgotten the brilliance of our response - how we sneaked around late at night and taught ourselves to read, taught ourselves secret signals to resist, taught ourselves pride and will and love. We have to draw on that history of persistence.

[The elites] are buying things for their kid’s $500 sneakers for what And won’t spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics!

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting.

One advantage that African-American kids have over most people in the world is the ability to speak English. It's the international language of business. To be a success anywhere on the globe, you have to speak it. But we're letting this advantage slip away too. Many of our kids don't want to speak English. In our day, we used to talk a certain way on the corner, but when we got into the house, we switched to English. We used to blame the kids for talking this way until we heard some of their parents. Some black parents couldn't care less.

Most black employers we know want to see the entire community prosper. But even they don't want to hire boys who can't dress properly, and who speak as if

English were a second language. When we see these boys walking around the neighborhood, we imagine them thirty or forty years down the road wandering around just as aimlessly, and we want to cry.

A mother can usually teach a daughter how to be a woman. But as much as mothers love their sons, they have difficulty showing a son how to be a man. A successful man can channel his natural aggression. Without that discipline, these sons often get into trouble at school because many teachers find it difficult to manage their "acting out" behavior. If you think we're exaggerating, talk to a teacher.

A working parent can also introduce [children] to a rather simple device that all of us hate but that most of us have learned to live with an alarm clock. Getting up when you're tired and going to school or work is not something that comes naturally to anyone. It's something that kids have to learn at home.

There are whole blocks with scarcely a married couple, whole blocks without responsible males to watch out for wayward boys, whole neighborhoods in which little girls and boys come of age without seeing up close a committed partnership and perhaps never having attended a wedding.

Certain people tell us that we are picking on the poor. Many of those who accuse us are scholars and intellectuals, upset that we are not blaming everything on white people as they do. Well, blaming only the system keeps certain black people in the limelight, but it also keeps the black poor wallowing in victimhood.

Anonymous said...

Yea, to hell with Bill Cosby, Juan Williams, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell and any other Black person who achieves success without maintaining outward hostility to White America. Let's keep tearing them down and wallowing in our bitterness!

You're absolutely right, Alicia. Cosby was one of the original backers of Operation PUSH and the Black Panthers, as well as a continual donor to the UNCF. Juan Williams has no such track record.

Bill Cosby made the mistake of stating what many older established AA think about young people. If anything, he's a echoing the seem viewpoint that a Medgar or a Malcolm may have "Ni** I got shot for this?"

Juan Williams has been and may always be a complete hack and shill, willing to change his political views depending on whose cutting his check.

mellaneous said...

LAC said:"he's a echoing the seem viewpoint that a Medgar or a Malcolm may have "Ni** I got shot for this?"

Okay LAC I will give you a chance to make this a little clearer, because Malcolm nor Medgar spent time beating up on black people for acting out their victimization.

Malcolm challenged black folks to stand up for themselves and against their oppressors. He made fun of black folks proclivity to get excited about minor things and ignore the big issue that was threatening all of their existence which was and is racism and capitalism.

He tried to wake folks up to do something about their oppresssion. He never wasted any time picking on poor black folks because he was well aware of the ultimate causes of their direliction.

I like Bill Cosby but I am not going to pretend that I didn't hear what he said and didn't notice how the enemies of black folks trumpeted what he said in their efforts to continue to make black folks feel second class and second rate.

I get frustrated when I see black folks doing backward things but I don't then take a backward perspective on why some folks do what they do. In a society in which they were valued as much as anyone else, given the same education and opportunity to succeed many would indeed exhibit different behaviour.

But to blame the victim in racist America is just downright shameful.
Its what Juan Williams and the other conservative black talking heads do, who are by the way paid quite handsomely to bash and blame the victimized.

more on juan:

Williams had already so angered one black woman, Jill Nelson, that he warranted a passage in 1993's "Volunteer Slavery," Nelson's memoir about her time at the Post. When the two were working together at the Washington Post Magazine, Williams told the magazine editor, without being asked, that Nelson's submission was unworthy of publication, she wrote.

She quoted herself telling him, "Listen, Juan, don't *uck with me. You know, you're worse than a Negro who carries white folks' water for them, because your own water is dirtier than theirs could ever be. Don't get into my business again. Because if you fuck with me, I'll destroy you."

There are too many purposely idiotic comments to address them all. I would say only that Panama is considered a Central American country, NOT Caribbean. The stupid level rises evermore....

Jill Nelson was, and is an incompetent writer whose work is not worthy of publication in the Washington Post. Her bitterness at her own lack of ability is no reflection on Mr. Williams.

more poetry and yruth on juan:

There is no evidence that Nina Totenberg has ever been in any way criticized, warned, or suffered any loss of standing for her free-wheeling opinion dispensing as she has done on that show, Inside Washington, for almost the better part of two decades. And as you pointed out Cokie Roberts, another esteemed colleague, someone who like you we all know very well, has never been reprimanded for that kind of thing either.

It's a howling double standard. They have been wanting to get him, and got him, and in so doing exposed themselves for who they are.

I am not sure I would have fired Juan Williams (I don't think much of the guy), but I can see where NPR is coming from with its decision. Obviously, this organization has standards of conduct and he apparently violated those standards. Williams has been using his position at NPR to get credibility for his biased Fox News audience and he has been warned in the past about his conduct and inappropriate comments.

Fox News is there to pick him up with a pot of gold. Don't shed any tears for Juan. I suspect he got what he wanted and Fox News definitely got what it wanted (a chance to position itself against its favorite boogeyman: the mainstream media).

Revealing how FN ( The guardian of all things Israel et al) gives Vivian Schiller a pass for her hate speech and bigotry for telling Juan Williams to go see a shrink..

As a Black activist like my heroes MLK, Malcom, Mandlea and others being called "crazy" and attacks on our mental capacity is part of the usual treatment "crazy niggers" waiting for Black Activists...

FN you been on the end of that right?? So why the pass for Vivian Schiller????

Vivian was wrong for what she said and she did apologize, but calling her comments hate speech and bigotry is baseless.
