Lennon is dead, and so is Rumain.

It's not only Ferguson, Missouri and New York City. There is a lot of stuff going on with black men all over this country. "Post racial" my ass.

I blogged about Lennon Lacy back in October, I wondered then----- as I am wondering now--- why his case didn't get more national attention.

Maybe things will change now that America's former sweetheart, Katie Couric, has decided to do a report about young Mr. Lacy's death.

"While Ferguson, Mo., erupted after a grand jury failed to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, another story was playing out some 900 miles away from the cameras — and the outrage.

On the morning of Aug. 29,
Lennon Lacy, a 17-year-old African-American high school football player from Bladenboro, N.C., was found dead in the open field of a mobile home park, hanging from a swing set.

When Lennon’s mother, Claudia, arrived on the scene, she felt in her heart that he had not committed suicide. “When I looked at him I knew — I said — I said to myself — I said, ‘He didn't do this... He couldn't have.’"

Local police ruled it a suicide, and the autopsy report recorded the cause of death as “asphyxia due to hanging.” The autopsy report also noted that Lennon “had been depressed over the recent death of his uncle.” Lennon’s brother Pierre disputes that, asking, “How do you psychologically evaluate a dead person? He was just too happy for life.”

The Lacy family says the police rushed to rule Lennon’s death a suicide despite their many unanswered questions such as the shoes Lennon was found wearing – they were a size and a half too small.  They say all they want is a thorough investigation before any conclusions are reached.

The president of the North Carolina
NAACP, the Rev. William Barber II, says, “The call was made so quick. And what concerns us about that is that if Lennon Lee Lacy was white and was found hanging in a … predominantly black trailer park that was known to have some drug involvement and other things, we just don't believe that it would have been this quick rush to say it was a suicide. It would have been a very, very, very intense investigation.”

The North Carolina NAACP hired an independent pathologist to examine the autopsy report – in the report, questions were raised about the way the body was handled and whether or not it was feasible for Lennon to hang himself from the swing set.

In light of the pathologist’s report, the NAACP requested that U.S. Attorney Thomas Walker of the Eastern District of North Carolina take over the case.

The Bladen County District Attorney’s office said in a statement, “While the investigation is ongoing, and no final determinations have been made, to date we have not received any evidence of criminal wrongdoing surrounding the death.”' [Video]

The local police ruled the death a suicide.

Young Mr. Lennon was dating a 31 year old white woman.

"Suicide"?  Ok then......

Finally, another day another unarmed black man killed by the police.

Sadly, this is becoming an epidemic.

I take you to Phoenix, Arizona.

"PHOENIX — The facts surrounding Rumain Brisbon's death — the ones that could be agreed upon as of Wednesday evening — follow a narrative familiar to a nation still reeling from the racially charged police incidents in Ferguson, Mo., New York City and elsewhere.

In Phoenix on Tuesday evening, a white police officer who was feeling threatened used lethal force on an unarmed black man. The incident left the officer unharmed and Brisbon, 34, dead with two bullet wounds in his torso at a north Phoenix apartment complex.

Phoenix police quickly released a detailed account of the killing for the media on Wednesday morning in what officials said was an effort to promote transparency, especially in light of the unrest that has played out in Ferguson and New York City following the deaths of unarmed Black men at the hands of White officers. But portions of that account have already been challenged by some witnesses and community activists who say that the officer's use of force was excessive and that Brisbon's death was unwarranted.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were in the area
of Interstate 17 and Greenway Road for a burglary investigation when a resident of an apartment complex told them that men inside a black Cadillac SUV were engaged in a drug deal, said Sgt. Trent Crump, a Phoenix police spokesman.

Police checked the license plate that the tipster provided and found it was registered to a resident in the 15,400 block of North 25th Avenue, where there was also a pending report of a "loud music disturbance."

The loud-music call was canceled, so the officer went to the SUV to ask questions of those inside, Crump said.

The officer said the driver, later identified as Brisbon, got out and appeared to be removing something from the rear of the SUV. The officer told Brisbon to show his hands, but Brisbon stuffed his hands into his waistband, Crump said.
The officer drew his weapon and Brisbon ran toward nearby apartments, Crump said. A short foot chase ensued.

"Witnesses indicated to us that the suspect was verbally challenging to the officer," Crump said.Brisbon refused to comply with the officer's commands to get on the ground, and the two struggled once the officer caught up with him, Crump said.

"During the struggle, Brisbon put his left hand in his pocket and the officer grabbed onto the suspect's hand, while repeatedly telling the suspect to keep his hand in his pocket," he said. "The officer believed he felt the handle of a gun while holding the suspect's hand in his pocket."
A woman inside an apartment opened a door at that moment, and the officer and Brisbon tumbled inside, Crump said. Two children, ages 9 and 2, were in a back bedroom, he said.

The officer could no longer keep a grip on Brisbon's hand and, because he feared that the suspect had a gun in his pocket, fired two shots, Crump said.
The item in Brisbon's pocket turned out to be a bottle of oxycodone pills, he said.

Crump said the officers are aware of the delicate nature of the case and are asking the community to allow investigators to gather all the facts." [Source]

There is nothing too "delicate" about it Mr. Crump. A man is dead because a police officer who should be properly trained to handle these types of situations panicked and let his "color arousal issues kick in.

This is the new normal in America.

I guess this is one way to take care of the prison overcrowding problem. Just kill the perp before he goes to trial.

Field, FYI here's an excerpt from an article interview with Chris Rock. I love his insight and wisdom.

"To say Obama is progress is saying that he's the first black person that is qualified to be president. That's not black progress. That's white progress.

There's been black people qualified to be president for hundreds of years," he mused during a New York magazine interview.

"The question is, you know, my kids are smart, educated, beautiful, polite children. There have been smart, educated, beautiful, polite black children for hundreds of years. The advantage that my children have is that my children are encountering the nicest white people that America has ever produced. Let's hope America keeps producing nicer white people."

If the details of Rumain Brisbon's death are accurate, I'm somewhat sympathetic to the officer's decision. Brisbon was acting very suspiciously, probably because he really was dealing Oxycodone and was trying to ditch it before the officer caught him with it.

That's a big "if," though. I'll wait for more facts to come in before taking the cop's description of events as accurate.

Field, if you or anyone else wishes to cite these things as a problem, I take no issue. If you want to say they're despicable and too commonplace to be happening in this day and age, I take no issue.

But to say it's an "epidemic" is beyond hyperbole. Folks do not get to give new meanings to words every time they feel slighted. An epidemic is a situation whereby something quickly begins to spread from one to another, over a large segment of the population.

A dozen or so out of 40+ million hardly qualifies. 0.00002% of anything does not even begin to come close to even being the start of an epidemic.

Language matters, does it not? Or, at least that's what I'm told every time a white person says something insensitive, or anytime someone insults the LGBT community. Language matters; words matter. The word "epidemic" applied to something fewer than 1 part per million (literally!) is not even in the same universe as an epidemic.

There's an epidemic of chlorine in your drinking water, if that's the case. Or, there's an epidemic of midget porn stars. There's an epidemic of lungers running around the world. It's an epidemic! An epidemic!

"Sadly, this is becoming an epidemic."

Actually, there has not been a single case of police misconduct that resulted int the death of a black man where the police have not been held accountable. That you disagree with the conclusion of an investigation or dispute the evidence presented means nothing unless you can present additional valid information and demonstrate logically how justice has not been served.

What is sad is the way the black community is manipulated into celebrating martyred criminals.

People who do not cooperate when being apprehended in the act of a crime are very dangerous. People who put their hands in their pockets or waistbands when directed to raise them have to be considered hostile. People who forcibly resist arrest have stepped over a major line.

That is the epidemic: black criminality and hostility toward law enforcement.

All of this protest is just an attempt at distraction from the real issue.

You must be right. In fact, you HAVE to be right. Otherwise, you could not make the statement, "There has not been a single case of police misconduct in the death of a bm where the police have not been held accountable."

And according to Grand Juries, the cop was not at fault. That is pure accountability by a pure justice system for Blacks.

It works really well, without failure. Hey, it beats lynching. That's what I call white progress.

Josh said...

@ PiloX:

"So Josh, you mean to tell me there's no epidemic of knockout games? Oh I beg to differ sir..."

There are 300m+ people living in the United States of America, legally and otherwise. How many have fallen victim to the knockout game? 100? 1,000? 10,000?

To call something an epidemic, a larger portion of any demographic must be represented. In fact, you need over-representation to claim something is an epidemic.

For instance, over 70% of babies born to single mothers in a specific community constitutes an epidemic of babies born to single mothers. 7% would not count, however.

You are free as a bird to tag anything you wish with the label "epidemic," but it's just pure hyperbole unless it can be shown that something has reached epidemic proportions; that is to say, something is spreading from person to person, catching on, and infecting a large percentage of any given population.

The knockout game doesn't qualify, nor do the few instances of suspected police brutality against black males.

Emotion and a person's political bent have fuck-all to do with mathematics. What is true is true, not up for debate. Fewer than 0.0001% of the population being a victim of a stupid game in no way constitutes an epidemic.

Depends what you mean by criminals. About 16% of black men had a prison record, as of 2001 (the number is probably higher now). And, as has been widely projected, if nothing changes in this country, that will rise to 33% over the next few decades.

Those numbers are significantly higher than for other ethnic groups.

Bottom line: When a cop walks by, 'get off the damn sidewalk like you know you should. We used to know how to do that. What happened?

Anyway, you and KC do agree on this matter: Negroes are at fault, they should learn how to be humble enough to accept white cop humiliation.

now be clear:

i have done that.

so there is most definitely no judgment from me.

i have walked down the center of the street in the south. and in the middle of the day in suburb LA when there was no traffic. so i get it.

but this much i can tell you for sure...

IF the police pulled up and asked me to knock it off- i would pull a Jackie Joyner Kersee making my way to the sidewalk.

then thank the policeman for keeping me safe. flash a smile and be on about my way.

gotta go.

aka acting like i know...

where i am + what time it is.

BM and all citizens at this point should be trying to make it home in one piece.

it is clear, or should be, that if it comes down to it, and BM don't make it home...

there will be no charges.

for BW folk are hard pressed to get a news story much less the full weight of the Black nation behind US.

until the Black lawyers figure out how to change this sad fact, it might be wise to act as if folk got the message already.

or the Black girl that was beaten mercilessly by police because they thought her a "prostitute"; despite her being in her front yard. her daddy came to her rescue. clean up the mia daddy image + get justice for police brutality, too.

a nation will only rise as high as it lifts its women.

someone doing all sorts of wrong then being falsely depicted as the kindest, gentlest big BM of all time.

come on now.

that madness = Black nation set up to look dumb. a nation that loves them some BM demonstrating criminal behavior...while saying all Blacks are not criminals.

don't mistake my views to be a lack of compassion. this is not Truth. i am saddened deeply by the suffering of His People/my people. to my soul in fact.

i am sorry when folk don't get the stronger option. sometimes bad choices will just kill ya though. how much of that Truth are we prepared to own?

as a nation, folk don't have that assign accountability problem when it comes to the girls and women.

why the disparity?

Pilot X was Right...

the message has been clearly sent.

now...

don't you think it is time for more BM to act like they got it?

or are you not able to say that?

if not, folk got a lot of nerve to expect some Whites in denial re: white supremacy to cop to their durty.

i am against police brutality and the clear police state.

i just won't be a pawn in the circular color hate that some menfolk- Black and White- wage with each other.

can't we all just get along?

can BM be as forgiving of WM as they are of WW? if not, why? folk been standing side by side. lol. in fact, WW benefit the. most from patriarchal white supremacy.

don't try to say my refusal to separate along color lines = "perverse"...

maybe you should pay closer attention to who it is today that seeks to call those with my image every filthy name in the book.

maybe if folk stopped writing passes for bad behavior, folk could get that under control, too.

self respect.
self love.
self acceptance.

always comes before folk get any of that from elsewhere. again, folk get this when addressing Black girls and women.

to answer your question re: KC.

he crumbles funny sometimes:)

told him as much directly.

won't attack him daily because of it though. folk got the Right to think + believe the way they want.

i thought adults were supposed to be able to agree to disagree?

just as i won't attack those Black folk here that will support BO to the very end due to the skin he is in. despite his being more effective at bringing evil to all nations world wide. BO been out warring White folk. now THAT is no small feat. lol.

trying to Stand for Truth will have just about everybody mad at you.

lol.

+

;(

i am in Good company though + have zero intent to change course. every intent to make the necessary adjustments along the way but that's about it + all. those that worship Yah must do so in Spirit and in Truth. there is no color line provided in that directive.

we don't agree Anon. yet please know that i have nothing but Love for ya!

Blessings!

"we don't agree Anon. yet please know that i have nothing but Love for ya!"

Yeah, I hear that a lot but am not feeling it....strange love. Of course, that is the way Blacks love. It makes sense considering where we began and have ended up today.

IMO, most folks have no idea what 'Love' is.

For all of you who feel Blacks are responsible for what's happening to bm, here's a wonderful video to support your claim. KC will love this.

Anon 9:06pm-

don't know what to tell ya.

outside of had you met me awhile back, the response to your claim of my being "perverse" because i won't chant hatred toward WM...

only.

'cause that hatred most definitely doesn't get carried over to WW by BM.

quite a few treat WW like they are MORE woman than BW and will denigrate US in public like it is nothing. folk mad at CBarkley now...

but when he was dissing BW...

silence.

so my comment would've looked much different due to the pure unmitigated gall.

i don't know if you know Yah. you may want to get to know Him + know that He is in control. quite a few Bfolk will NOT even acknowledge Him...

at all.

are you new here?

quite a few BW don't really get a lot of Love from quite a few BM...mainly just the heavy emotional + physical lifting.

if you would pay attention to the voices of the BW foolish enough to go put themselves in harm's way in Ferguson on behalf of a BM...

not for the the BW raped, in Ferguson by a Black bad cop, mind you. a story that barely made the news..

you would get a fresh, yet throw back, to the 60's rendition of BW are Good for heavy lifting + place in human rights movement = prone position.

Love = KJV Corinthians 13:1-13.

read it today out loud in fact.

strive daily to be just that...

though i fail miserably, most days, it seems.

at least i will admit it.

'cause trying to control through guilt/manipulation, as in your initial comment= no Love.

my refraining from letting it rip one Good time= my best effort to BE Love.

it's been a long week, indeed.

yet, through His Mercy + Grace...

i am Still Standing.

Yah is Real + Good. i bound to give Him some Praise!

Shabbat Shalom + Blessings to you.

Did Field change his email addy?

My message was sent back.

I used the fn e-mail address to hit up Field.

@ PilotX:

If you want to pull sarcasm, perhaps pick a location where there aren't so many loonies running around saying the stupidest shit one could imagine. Anonymous trolls railing on with their racist diatribes, people whose screen names are in themselves racist jabs, prophetic prose using Bible quotes, allusions to Illuminati and other conspiracy theories -- and you expect that your sarcasm should be plucked out amidst all that? To the point anyone not realizing such is an anti-social basement-dwelling loser?

Vanity much? Get over yourself and speak plainly to people, for fuck's sake. Are you in grade school?

Ever hear of the identity of indiscernibles? That's pretty much where "sarcasm" falls on this blog; it is indiscernible from someone being dead fucking serious about their stance.

PilotX said...

Josh, I'm a grown assed man. I don't need advice from the likes of you. Sorry you're not bright enough to discern sarcasm. Not my problem, blame your parents for sending you to substandard schools. You don't like the way I post you are free to ignore them or leave this site completely. Pretty sure you won't be missed. Was that serious enough for you?

Josh said...

What would be serious is for a so-called "grown assed man" (whatever the hell that means) to speak with people plainly rather than acting like spoiled ass children with little sarcastic games.

How should one discern sarcasm on a board when the typical comment is indiscernible from a raving lunatic with some conspiracy theory?

Whether you need advice or not, you're getting it: Want people to treat you like a "grown assed man"? Speak to people plainly and not like a 8-year-old retard. It'd be a great start.

But as far as being missed: I know that's right. No one would miss anyone on this blog who bothered to speak plain English. If you want to be accepted around here, you have to troll your ass off and push racially driven conspiracies without any factual basis whatsoever.

PilotX said...

"Speak to people plainly and not like a 8-year-old retard. It'd be a great start."

You wouldn't know the difference anyway I'm betting. I would think a writer would be better at OBVIOUS sarcasm but hey not all writers are created equally huh?

"you have to troll your ass off and push racially driven conspiracies without any factual basis whatsoever."

Not pushing anything, and an off comment is totally different from a conspiracy but then again you can't even recognize sarcasm so I couldn't even hope you'd recognize hyperbole. Sorry son, not using Cliff notes because you can't keep up. This isn't the special ed classes you're used to taking. If you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch.

PilotX said...

Writer my ass Josh, you can't even write on restroom walls. Does mommy give you crayons and let you doodle while she wipes your drool?

Josh said...

@ PilotX:

What was supposedly obvious about your sarcasm?

"So Josh, you mean to tell me there's no epidemic of knockout games? Oh I beg to differ sir, I shall just ask the good Bill O'Reilly and Shamus Hannity and they shall tell me the truth."

Seems fairly serious to me. Fox is the number-one news network in the nation. Any right-wing blog, and any right-wing blogger, is undoubtedly going to cite O'Reilly and Hannity as source material. Many people believe the knockout game is an epidemic. Nothing obvious there that you're being sarcastic.

"Like lynching, you only need a few to send the message. The message sent by leaving Mike Brown's body out on the pavement uncovered all day sent the message loudly and clearly."

This was sarcasm? Or, I'm supposed to sift through your comments and pick which sentences are sarcastic, which are serious, and otherwise?

If the answer to that is "yes," it might be a standard I'd be willing to oblige if the same respect were shown from you. But we both know it's not; you pick one sentence out of a complete body of context and rail on about it, completely misrepresenting the writer's intent, and then you proceed to end-zone dance around this bitch like you just served somebody. Like an excited retard.

"Wrong wrong wrong Josh! Shamus and Bill would not lie to me! They are on tv afterall.
But your point about killing blah men not being an epidemic isn't the point. Like lynching, you only need a few to send the message. The message sent by leaving Mike Brown's body out on the pavement uncovered all day sent the message loudly and clearly."

I read the top part of that comment--the first statement--as trolling. Sarcasm? No; I didn't take it that you were being sarcastic; just that you were trying to troll the "TV" line again; and again, because you seem to be serious in the rest of the comment. Or is that sarcasm too?
