America is going off-white, and "extremely literate conservative African American" needed.

Many of my melanin challenged friends dreaded the day that this would happen: The loss of a white majority in their beloved America. Some of you, of course, won't really care one way or another, and this news doesn't really faze you. To some of you, on the other hand, (like members of the tea party,the republican party, and viewers of FOX NEWS) this is really bad news.

"The United States has reached a historic tipping point -- with Latino, Asian, mixed race and African American births constituting a majority of births for the first time, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Thursday.

Minorities made up about 2 million, or 50.4%, of the births in the 12-month period ending July 2011, enough to create the milestone. The latest figure was up from 49.5% in the 2010 census.

The racial and ethnic shift was an expected, but still important, turning point for the nation, whose economic and political elites remain essentially white and primarily male. The new numbers indicate that the upcoming generations will be more diverse and could have an increasingly broader view of issues -- such as immigration reform -- that are based on race and ethnicity."

Oh my! 

Of course, I knew this day was coming. I wrote a very serious essay about it right here on this very website. (OK, so maybe it wasn't that serious, but I saw this trend two years ago.) 

Of course, here in Philly, all is not lost for my white friends. We are actually gaining white folks.

Philadelphia is affordable, walkable, and has a great art scene and “tons of young parents,” said Clark, who lives in the East Passyunk section of South Philly. And you “have a chance to make an impact on your city.”
Her son is one of the new residents who have contributed to an estimated growth in the city’s white population since the 2010 census, reversing a 60-year decline of whites in the city.

According to new estimates being released Thursday, Philadelphia saw a slight jump in the number of whites living here from April 1, 2010, to July 1, 2011. The estimates show the city gained 3,980 whites, or a 0.7 percent increase, for a total of 569,215 whites in July. Whites make up 37 percent of the city’s total population, as they did in 2010." [Source]

I just hope that when all of you people of color fully settle into the majority you don't act the fool. These white folks built a very nice country for us. Let us try to keep it that way.

Finally, I see that Mitt's peeps were planning to go all Jeremiah Wright on his Oness. Mitt's peeps say that  they will not back off Jeremiah Wright like John McCain did when he ran against O.

“The world is about to see Jeremiah Wright and understand his influence on Barack Obama for the first time in a big, attention-arresting way,” read the plan, first revealed by the New York Times."

And, of course, my conservative friends have a secret plan:

"The $10 million plan, one of several being studied by Mr. Ricketts, includes preparations for how to respond to the charges of race-baiting it envisions if it highlights Mr. Obama’s former ties to Mr. Wright, who espouses what is known as “black liberation theology.”

The group suggested hiring as a spokesman an “extremely literate conservative African-American” who can argue that Mr. Obama misled the nation by presenting himself as what the proposal calls a “metrosexual, black Abe Lincoln.”

Hmmm, an "extremely literate conservative African American". Maybe I can help them with a name.

Anyway, I am glad to hear that Mitt has denounced the plan.

"Romney quickly denounced the political dirty trick in the making.
“I want to make it very clear, I repudiate that effort,” the presumptive GOP nominee said after a campaign event in Florida. “I think it’s the wrong course for a PAC or a campaign.”

But wait, did he really?

"Romney, however, had mentioned Wright during a February interview on Fox News, suggesting that Obama’s worldview was in part shaped by the fiery preacher, whose Chicago church the President once attended.
Romney did not back down from that view Thursday.

A "big black cloud" is hanging over Thibodaux.

Now you all know me, I can chase the big R with the best of em. But a couple of recent incidents have me crying slow down just a little and let's trot around the track.

A top A-merry-can diplomat in India found herself in some hot water recently for the following remarks: "I was on a 24-hour train trip from Delhi to Orissa," the eastern Indian state, Chao continued, according to Agence-France Press. "But, after 72 hours, the train still did not reach the destination ... and my skin became dirty and dark like the Tamilians."...

The U.S. consulate soon posted a statement of apology on its website:"During the speech Ms. Chao made an inappropriate comment," the statement, posted Saturday, read. "Ms. Chao deeply regrets if her unfortunate remarks offended anyone, as that was certainly not her intent."

Chao's comment came while she was attempting to recount "positive memories from her own study experiences in India 23 years ago," the statement continued." [Source]

Ok, that's one. Now here is the other one: "Barely days into his official presidential campaign, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been a gusher of controversial quotes, calling President Obama’s patriotism into question, making vaguely threatening statements about Fed chairman Ben Bernanke, and now, making what some see as a blatant reference to President Obama’s race by saying that “a big black cloud” is hanging over the country. AURN White House Correspondent April Ryan, for one, wasn’t shy about calling Perry out.... 

The quote has been held up as a not-so-veiled reference to the President’s race. Loop21’s Maurice Garland translated Perry’s remark:
After that he said that a “big black cloud” was hanging over the country. In Perry-speak that means there’s a “big black guy running the country and I’m not too happy about it.”

Garland went on to say that he “hope(s) (Perry) doesn’t actually start ‘hanging’ these big black clouds he speaks of.”

Veteran White House reporter April Ryan, who was recently elected to the board of the White House Correspondents Association, was quick to call Perry out via her Twitter feed, tweeting “Rick Perry’s words ‘a black cloud over this country.’ He knows exactly what he is saying and appealing to. Perry has to remember if he is President he would be POTUS over all including black america who are part of his ‘black cloud.’” [Source] 

OK, so maybe I have to think about the Governor Big Hair quote a little more. Sometimes I just can't hear those racist dog whistles. But then, I am not supposed to. They are not meant for me.

Finally, speaking of black clouds; they are hanging over one particular Louisiana town tonight and here is why: "THIBODAUX, La. -The mother of 7 year old Jori Lirette can’t help but ask why, her son was brutally murdered allegedly at the hands of his own father. Jori has cerebral palsy and heart problems.

“He was a very important person in my life, maybe the best thing that ever happened to me,” says Jesslyn Lirette

30 year old Jeremiah Wright is accused of bludgeoning, decapitating and dismembering Jori Lirette. Thibodaux police say Wright left his disabled son’s head near the street in front of the family home, so the child’s mother would see it when she returned from running errands." [Source] 

"See I told you that Obama was no good, now look what his pastor done went and did." No wingnuts, not that Jeremiah Wright. This Jeremiah Wright [see pic]probably hated Obama as much as you do.

"Veteran police officers who initially arrived on the scene to investigate were reportedly in tears. Outside of the home, a memorial is growing and the close knit community is shaken as well.

“It’s real hard to walk into campus this morning and see so many empty looking eyes because everybody is grieving over his death,” says Principal Diane Smith

Investigators are trying to understand too. They say when officers arrived at the house, Wright was standing on the front porch.

“Actually he told the officers that it was a CPR dummy, that the head was a CPR dummy,” says Chief Scott Sillveri

Later, they say Wright confessed to killing his son and cutting him up in the kitchen sink. Police say Wright’s only explanation for placing his son’s head by the road was to make the boy’s mother feel stupid when she saw it.
Wright has been in trouble before. He was arrested for contempt of court and drug charges.

“You will be missed and loved by everyone and we will pray every day in your honor. Love you,” says Jesslyn Lirette

Through tears, Jori’s mother, called him a star who will never be forgotten.

Wright is being held on a $5 million bond.

The boy’s mother said she left the house to go get her truck fixed so she could take Jori to the doctor Tuesday.

The couple was not married. They had been together, though, for 10 years."

Ten years?! Wow, that's a lot of clouds.

Coward!

So Eric Holder thinks that we are cowards here in A-merry-ca because we don't talk openly about race. (The guy obviously doesn't ever come to this site) And of course every red blooded white A-merry-can took offense; some more than others. If you didn't happen to catch the shout fest between Pat Buchanan and Michael Eric Dyson on "Hardball" tonight you missed a real treat. For a moment there I thought Pat was going to drop the "N" word, I sure know he was thinking it. (*How many of you Negroes can look at a white person and just tell when he/she wants to call you the"N" word? Raise your hands.*) Say what you want about Pat, at least he seems to be pretty honest about his feelings on race. Now there is a guy I could start a dialogue with. Eric Holder was not talking about the Pat Buchanans of the world. He knows just how he feels about black folks, and he doesn't seem to have any illusions about it. I like that.

Now Lorie Byrd, on the other hand, not so much.

See Lorie is your typical misguided conservative. I will try not to be too hard on her because she is a Tigers fan like moi. Still, her recent post on Wizbang about Holder's comments was sad but not surprising. She thinks individual black people achieving in business and politics is a fair measuring stick of how far A-merry-ca has come on matters of race. As if every time she sees a black woman she sees Condi or Oprah, and every time she sees a black man she sees Obama or Will. The anecdote about her daughter and her black playmate....well here, read for yourself:

Eric Holder, the nation's first black attorney general, said Wednesday the United States was "a nation of cowards" on matters of race, with most Americans avoiding candid discussions of racial issues. In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.

"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," Holder said.
Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, but "we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race."
Maybe one day we will know Americans are no longer cowards on race if they pass a law to protect the civil rights of minorities.

Or a black woman becomes one of the most successful businesswomen in America.
Or if a black man or woman can serve as secretary of state.
Or if one day they elect a black American to the highest office in the land.
Or if a black man can serve as attorney general, Eric Holder.

Of course all those things have happened already. But Holder is talking not so much about concrete progress made by minorities, but about how Americans discuss race and how they choose to associate in their private lives. Make of that what you will, but when someone in the government starts worrying about who I choose as my friends, I get worried that they are way deeper in my business than I care for them to be.

Update: It just occurred to me that while I was writing this post my daughter was in her room playing with the little girl who lives across the street -- who just happens to be black. The fact that it did not even occur to me until now, in my opinion, is more indicative of progress. Would you prefer to live in a country where you associated with those of other races without even thinking about it, or a country in which race was always on your mind and discussed at every opportunity. I know which America I choose and it is quite apparent which one Attorney General Holder would prefer. I guess in his book that makes me a coward.

Funny. When I think of racial cowards, I think of Barack Obama at Jeremiah Wright's church, sitting there week after week, year after year, saying nothing about the separatist demagoguery echoing from the pulpit to the pews.

When I think of racial cowards, I think of all the navel-gazers who fret about poisonous racial dialogue, but say nothing about "My President Is Black" bigotry...
...Holder doesn't want an honest dialogue about race. In the Age of Obama, "talking enough with each other about race" means the rest of us shutting up while being subjected to lectures about our insensitivity and insufficient integration on the weekends.Allahpundit points out that Obama could have talked more about race during the campaign if he wanted to, but the Jeremiah Wright made that hard to do.

I didn't think about this when I first posted, but what does it say about Democrats/liberals who won't allow black Americans to identify themselves as conservatives or Republicans without calling them derogatory names? I guess it could be considered cowardice that so many liberals are afraid of and threatened by black conservatives who flee the liberal Democrat plantation."

Hmmm, did she write "black conservatives who flee the liberal Democrat plantation"? Nice try Lorie, but the last time I checked; the big house was still a part of the plantation.

I bet the "O" man is feeling like Michael Corleone right about now. Of course some of us knew all along that A-merry-ca wouldn't let the "O" man forget who he is. The most famous face in A-merry-ca right now belongs to my homie, Pastor Jeremiah Wright, who supposedly made some inflammatory statements about these Divided States of A-merry-ca. The guy is everywhere. FAKE NEWS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, You Tube....you get the picture. FAKE NEWS has been riding this story for a year now, and praying that it would get picked up. Well, they finally got their wish, and it could sink the "O" man big time. But to quote someone a read recently; "since when is it a crime to be angry?" Shit, if it was, I would be doing life right about now. "Politico" calls the good Reverend's rhetoric "deeply racially confrontational." Translated; it makes white folks uncomfortable.

But I honestly have to shake my head at the irony. This little dust up would not have happened if the "O" man was not a church going man in the first place. But here he is on the verge of losing a dream of a life time because of the words of his pastor. They are uncomfortable words, and they are the last thing A-merry-cans want to hear. Black folks we recognize those words don't we? We have heard sermons like this many times before. When our preachers preach to us, they talk to us as if they are sitting around out dinner table. They try to shock us to make a point, and they don't mince words. They always try to hit us in the gut and appeal to our raw emotions to make a point. "Ahh field how do you know? You are a god hating gnostic, who hasn't stepped foot in a church since his baptism..." Yeah but my daddy was a preacher, and a damn good one. My daddy actually taught preachers how to preach, (Theology and Homiletics) so I think I know a thing or two about this subject, preachers.

But sadly for the "O" man, a vast amount of A-merry-cans will never understand his preacher. They will never understand him because they have never stepped foot in a black church. They will hear the good Reverend ranting against A-merry-ca and all of its ills, and implying that 911 was an example of A-merry-ca's "chickens coming home to roost ", and they will be furious. They will want to know how he can say that "rich white people run the country" (So where is the false statement there?). They will want to know how the "O" man could have sat in this man's church for 20 years and not be influenced by him. They will say that it's the "O" man's true feelings, and that his wife is a closet militant who puts her black race first. They will say that the "O" man will get into power and push only issues that effect black people. Issues like poverty, crime, unfair sentencing, and failing schools. They will say it, and I for one hope that they will be right.
