I did not get shot today.

Image result for black people gun imagesI am blogging tonight because I did not get shot today.

Yes Mr trump, I actually went out my front door, went off to work, and after a long day on the grind, came home without being shot.

Actually, the thought of being shot just walking down the street never crossed my mind until Donald mentioned it in his outreach speech to us black folks. You know, the one he delivered as far away from black people as possible.

The thing is, a lot of black people fear not only being shot walking down the street, but now, thanks to one of his  supporters ( I am sure he would have your vote if he wasn't  in jail getting his ass kicked), we are afraid of being shot in church now as well. We are also afraid of being shot by the police who are supposed to be serving us, as well as someone who we would least expect to shoot us because they have a gun and don't know how to properly use it. We can thank the NRA for that one.

I listened to the speech, and something about it (besides the obvious racism and cluelessness) just didn't sit right with me.  And then it hit me, Donald wasn't talking to me, the black person. He was talking about me to white people. That was the point of his faux outreach in the first place: to convince reasonable thinking white people that he is not  a raving lunatic, or a David Duke clone with more money.

I am sure that it might have worked with some people, but I am equally sure that most people (black and white) saw right through it.

"I’m not part of the Clinton campaign. I’m a black man in America and I know a bigot when I see a bigot and you are supporting a bigot and that makes you part of the bigotry that’s Donald Trump.”

That was New York Times columnist Charles Blow speaking to some house Negro last night on CNN.

He was speaking for me and millions of other black people who are feeling the same thing.

"FILTHADELPHIA"

Warning, this post is going to make some folks uncomfortable; or maybe not.

Today I was in a North Philadelphia visiting a client of mine, and after spending an hour or two with the lady, I headed back to my car. Philly parking being what it is, I was parked about a block from her house. While walking back to my car, a grown ass man who was walking ahead of me decided to throw a rather large box -that previously contained take out- right on the sidewalk in front of me.

Now please understand that nothing sets me off more than seeing people just throw trash on the f*****g sidewalk. There is absolutely no reason for it. It is nasty, inconsiderate, and just downright ignorant. Here in Philly we have a serious problem with that shit. (They don't call us "Filthadelphia" for nothing.) Folks will just throw their trash on the ground like it ain't shit. As if the ground is just one large trash receptacle (I am not mad at Nagin, he was right). But what does that say about the mind- set and the mentality of someone who does some ignorant shit like that? Clearly if you just throw your trash on a public sidewalk, or on someone's lawn, you don't care about the community in which you live or the image you project.

And black folks, can we talk? Why is it that I mostly see this shit in our neighborhoods? Why don't we care about keeping our neighborhoods looking beautiful? I go to some of the poorest white neighborhoods here in Philly (and yes I know they are white, because here in Philly we are divided like that ), and you can tell that the people there are poor, but you know what? Their shit is clean. The sidewalks are swept, the lawns are clean, and there is little or no graffiti on the walls. What the hell is it about our people that we think it's okay to mess up shit? Walk down the street, just throw whatever trash you have on the sidewalk, and there is a trash can two f*****g feet from you. Honest to god you have to wonder what the homes of some these people look like.....actually, never mind, I have seen that, too, and it ain't good.

"Oh come on field, why are you being so hard on our people, most of these folks are poor and don't know any better." Yeah okay, but since when did poverty have anything to do with just being plain nasty? It doesn't cost shit to pick up a piece of paper, or hold it a few seconds longer until you can throw it in the trash can. Sorry, it's time to declare jihad on some of you nasty ass Negroes giving the rest of us a bad name.

So fam. looks back at me, and I am giving him the fuzzy eye ball. Fam. gives me a look like; "yeah motherfucker, I just threw that shit on the ground, and what the fuck is it to you?" I size him up; it's the middle of the day, and the motherfucker looks high. He has the hardcore shit down pat, and he is probably thinking, pussy. Of course he would be wrong. And I am thinking right about now that I ought to just roll on his ass. Attorney shot to death on North Philly street, police are still trying to figure out the motive for the shooting. I think better of it and dip into my car. The motherfucker is still looking at me like he is waiting for me to say something. There is a few things I could say to his ignorant ass, but I hold it in. I am thinking I will just blog about the shit later when I get home.

As I drove away and looked in my rear view, I swear that I saw the motherfucker throw something else in the middle of the street. I really want to turn around, but I don't. Sometimes blogging can literally save your life.

BLACKS ONLY

If you are white and you are about to read this post, stop! Do not read anymore. This post is for black folks only.......

Okay, I am not serious, this post is not actually going to be for only black folks, but I am trying to make a point here.

A judge in Atlanta recently threw everyone out of his courtroom (everyone meaning the mostly white lawyers), because he wanted to lecture the black defendants who made up 99% of the defendants who were in his room that day. Now his Honor is catching a lot of heat from folks in some quarters, and they are crying reverse racism. "How would he like it if a white Judge kicked every black person out of his court room because he wanted to lecture all of the white defendant." Personally, I wouldn't feel bad at all. Especially if all the white defendants in the court room were a bunch of juvenile delinquents who I was sick of seeing in my court room, and all the lawyers who were charged to defend them were a bunch of black guys.

I honestly understand where the good Judge was coming from. I can't tell you how many days I sat in a courtroom and had to see black defendant after black defendant being brought in to face the wrath of a white Judge, while being defended by a white lawyer. And for the record, I have seen black Judges lecture black defendants in ways that white Judges could not. And you know what, I don't have a problem with that. In many cases that will be the first time that any of them will have had to listen to a stern word or form of admonishment from a black male. So good for the Judge.

"But field how would you feel if you were a White person and the Judge kicked you out." Well, I would hope that I would be like the white folks who come to this blog. I really wouldn't care at all. Because I would understand that the Judge was frustrated and that there were certain sensitivities that only he could speak to. Now from a strictly legal point, I would probably have some issues. I would certainly want to make sure that my case was not being prejudiced in any way. But hey, that's what motions and appeals are for. Besides, the Judge told CNN that he was probably wrong to handle the situation the way he did. But sometimes we get frustrated and you know what, I can relate.

"In retrospect, it was a mistake, "Because my sheriff said to me, 'Judge, that message should be given to everybody' -- 'Don't violate the law, make something out of yourself, go to school, find a role model, somebody that will help you advance your life.'"

No it wasn't Judge, desperate times call for desperate measures. Unfortunately certain people in this country will always pin nefarious motives to situations such as this where race is involved. "Yeah you gotta watch this blacks, they stick together. He might be telling all those defendants not to worry, that he is going to give them all light sentences. See, that's why we shouldn't give them any power, they always abuse it". Give me a break!

Good for you Judge. I hope you gave everyone of those knuckle heads a good talking to. And if they even acted like they didn't want to listen, I hope you literally threw the book at them.

IT'S GETTING UGLY.

I was reading some of the comments from the previous thread on this blog, and I was amazed at what a difference just eight years make for black folks. The venom and the vitriol (well deserved I might add) being thrown at the Clintons was surprising in scope and its level of passion.

This is what us black folks do when we think someone in the majority is beating up on one of our own. Regardless of our politics we always seem to go into race protection mode. Because, hey, let's face it; it's really all about self protection if you live in A-merry-ca.

I have been reading quite a few African American blogs and the comments on them for the past few days, and I am pretty convinced that if a general election were held today and Lady Hillary was the dumbocratic nominee, she would lose. Why? Because she would need to have African American votes to win swing states like Michigan,Pennsylvania, and Ohio, and the way things have been going lately, that just ain't gonna happen. Black folks will be staying home (of course we can't vote for the party of David Duke and the fake ass cowboy from California either). And black folks staying home spells trouble for the dumbocrats in a general election.

After all the screaming black folks have been doing by way of blogs and word of mouth, the main stream media has finally caught on to this little story. (They are always a day late and a few dollars short when it comes to reporting on black issues) So Hillary and all the "blue blood" yuppies around her are on to it too. So you know what that means: time to trot out the house Negroes, poverty pimps, and lawn jockeys to tell black folks that everything is OK. Don't abandon the good ship Clinton just yet. There is plenty of mon.....whoops, I mean good will to go around. The couple from Wal Mart country really do love black people, and they didn't mean all the insensitive things that was said by them and their minions about black folks.

It's all a lie of course; they meant it, and I suspect that even their surrogates who have been summoned to the big house to go out and quiet those restless field slaves know they meant it. Honestly, I am finding myself despising the couple from Wal Mart country more and more my damn self. What happened to the "first black President"? Surely he can't be that out of touch with his own people?

Now don't get it twisted; if I saw blow job Bill and the frat boy in a sinking boat, and I had only one life vest to throw, I would sure as fuck hope that the frat boy knows how to swim. It's that deep with the frat boy and I. I think they call it "Bush Derangement Syndrome." Yep, I am one deranged mother fucker when it comes to the frat boy. But I digress.

Hey all I know is that Hillary is hoping that all will be forgiven after the primary season, and the dumbocrats and their black folks will be reunited again. (Where is Peaches and Herb when you need them?) I am not so sure we will be back this time though. I think it all depends on how much they beat up on the "O" man, and how he reacts to it.

Still, it should be interesting. The Clintons have a ton of money to throw around, and church building funds need stocking. The pastor has to get that new Chrysler 300 with the soft top to drive to church in style come Sunday morning. Make no mistake, the Clintons will use their money wisely.

"I think James Brown said it:I'd rather die standing than live on my knees. That is what this is about. It's about being insulted by supposed ' friends'. I said, in the beginning, if this was a Republican, it would be one thing. Because Republicans are SUPPOSED to do this sort of shit. But, to accept this from a Democrat?Unacceptable. Period. And, yeah, I know, 'innocent' comments that we ' imagine'. I know the drill, but unlike 40 years ago, we can speak up now. THAT is one thing our forefathers and mothers obtained for us. As my fellow blogger ABB says about the Clintons and their shills:The Shit Ain't Subtle, and You Ain't Slick. "

~~~rikyrah, commenting in the fields~~~
Yep, it's ugly already, and the repukelicans haven't even played their race card yet. Willie Horton or Harold Ford anyone?
**Insert picture of blond bimbo here** Cue in sound:
Some things I believe.
I got an e-mail from someone in the majority population who wanted to know what I believe about certain things. He caught me a little off guard, and I had to think about it a little bit.
Anyway, after getting my thoughts together, I came up with a few things. So Mr. e-mailer, I hope you are reading my blog, because here are my answers:
I believe that there is something or someone more powerful out there than all of us; I just don't know what or who it is yet.
I don't believe that any organized religion can anymore get you into heaven (if there is such a place) than wishing on a star.
I believe that some of the people that claim to be religious leaders will occupy a very hot part of hell (if there is such a place)
I believe that two consenting adults should have the right to do what they want in the privacy of their own homes as long as they do not hurt anybody else.
I believe that a woman should have the right to do whatever she wants to do with her body.
I believe that if men could have babies there would be drive through abortion clinics.
I believe that at least 30% of the white folks in this country wish that black people would just go away.
I believe that some of the most racist people in America go to church every Sunday morning.
I believe that 30% of white folks in this country really get it, and really do wish we were all equal.
I believe that of that 30%, only 3% of them have real power.
I believe that if Katrina had hit Seattle and not New Orleans George Bush would have been on the ground the next day.
I believe that allot of white (and black people) in America place less of a value on a black life than they do on a white one.
I believe that the death penalty is wrong, and isn't a deterrent to crime.
I believe that the biggest "drug dealers" in America have names like Merck, Smith Kline, and Johnson & Johnson; and not Biggy, Ice, and Slick.
I believe that people don't care about the rising murder rates in America's cities, because it's young black men killing each other.
I believe that global warming is a man made phenomenon.
I believe that there are lots and lots of people getting rich because of the war in Iraq.
I believe that Americans are too preoccupied with sex, and not preoccupied enough with stopping violence.
I believe that there are still African Americans in America who wish they weren't black.
I believe that 90% of black conservatives don't believe the shit they say on a daily basis.
I believe that Malcolm and Martin wanted the same things for black people.
I believe that black people should put their race before their nationality.
I believe that suicide bombers are some brave ass mother f*****s; even though they believe some twisted shit. If you don't believe me, tell me how many people you know that would be willing to strap a bomb around their waste and blow themselves to smithereens because of some sick belief system?
I believe that the FOX NEWS CHANNEL is one of the most dangerous and racist corporations in America.
I believe that Dick Cheney always wears Victoria's Secret lingerie under his suits. (I really do)
I believe that with age comes wisdom.
I believe that the entire AfroSpear(Sphere) movement through cyber-activism will be a real force in this country one day.
I believe that I am closer to finding Lark Voorhies, and when I do find her, unfortunately, that will be the end of this blog.
"... nappy-headed hos"?
I know I am late to this party, (this is why I hate to be out of the fields even for a minute) but I must comment on the latest little...ahem ahem, racial problem facing America, compliments of famed radio shock jock, Dom Imus.
Let me begin by thanking my girl "i am not star jones" for blogging about this story last week, and being the first to bring it to my attention. This is what I love about the "blackosphere", it helps to push a story so fast.
Now quite a few people will not like this post, because I doubt seriously if what I am going to say is the conventional thinking among black folks. But I wouldn't be me if I didn't speak my mind and keep it one hundred with you. Scary as this is going to sound, I actually agree with ...gasp, John McWhorter on this one. This is probably the only time that I will ever agree with home boy, but he is right about this issue. Don Imus is one man who speaks for many, and who represents a type of thinking in this country that us black folks need to simply start ignoring. He could do a thousand Mea culpa's on Reverend Al's radio show, and it will not change what is in his heart. I have been trying to preach on my blog from day one, that you cannot regulate or legislate morality. Don Imus is a racist and a hustler, who speaks to a very wide base, and tells them exactly what they want to hear. He can do this, because they are either too afraid to say it, or, whatever environment they are in, prevents them from doing so. And believe me when I tell you, he and his sidekicks have done quite well for themselves insulting black folks and other minorities.
So let's make no mistake, Imus didn't make his millions because he didn't have an audience. His Schick is quite popular, and his is the number one radio program in many major markets. (What does that tell you about your fellow countrymen?) So as he goes on the latest white man racist apology tour; just remember that his program regularly plays hosts to major politicians and journalist-resident house Negro, Harold Ford, happens to be one of his favorite people in the world- including many of the very people who will be now condemning him for doing what they do privately in public.
But I am sorry, I can't get all bent out of shape over the Imus comments. Why? Because I have come to expect it from his ilk. I refuse to act like the police inspector from Casablanca and be "shocked, shocked", that such racism exists in America. You will start hearing any day now, about other insensitive and racist things Imus and his sidekicks have said in the past, (called the New York Knicks "a bunch of chest pumping pimps", called Ben "Whitehorse" Nelson, Senator from Colorado, "the guy from F troop") and I am sure that you will be shocked, shocked , that this has been going on under your noses all this time. Yeah right, you must not live in the same America that I do. Here is a news flash; this is exactly the type of shit many of these folks sit around and say when your black ass isn't around. So don't get it twisted; all the marching in the world and all the preaching by Jessie and Al won't change that. And we better start getting our shit together among ourselves (yeah some of our own high profile entertainers call our women hoes too) and stop worrying about some racist cowboy from New Mexico, or else we will be hearing allot more of that type of ignorance from politicians and influential thinkers as well.
"I did a bad thing but I am not a bad person"
I am sure you don't think you are Mr. Imus. In fact, given the nature of modern day America when it comes to matter of race; you are quite the norm.
Plans for the revolution.
I rarely do this, but every now and then I read a comment on the web that I have to share with other readers in the fields. The following comment comes from by good brother Asabagna,by way of a comment he dropped on the free slave blog. (Sorry Max, looks like I beat you to it). Now for the record, I don't agree with everything Asa says, I actually think that black folks brown folks, and forward thinking white folks, can all work together to make this revolution thing work. Asa seems to be coming from a more black only perspective, which is fine, but I don't quite think like that. As someone who views the revolution from a more world wide and not just American perspective, I don't see the problem only in terms of black and white. So I search for a more viable and inclusive strategy. Remember, without our Jewish brother s and sisters during the civil rights struggle, plenty of the sh** we got accomplished could not have been done. Still, I agree with the overall tone and tenor of Asa's comments, and I think this brother is not only deep, but his heart is in the right place as well.
So here are my man's comments; unedited, and just like he laid it down over at the free slave.
"Great topic Lubangakene, once again you got me going deep. When I first read you post, the first thing that popped into my head was the Beatles song ‘Revolution’: 'ou say you want a revolution… Well you know… We all want to change the world'. Now I am sure this is not what you want to hear… lol… but that is the jingle that came into my head as I thought… well what would this revolution look like? … and how would we get there?
Then, Malcolm’s speech “The Ballot or the Bullet” popped into my consciousness (hopefully this redeems by involuntary Beatles “faux pas”..lol…). You are right on with your comments on the futility of utilizing the “Ballot” to bring about real change. I always refer to this statement by a relatively well known but unappreciated political philosopher when it comes to voting: “If voting could change anything, they would outlaw it”: Ice-T. Since I don’t live in America, as an outside observer, I am shake my head time and time again on how African-Americans put so much faith and energy into the voting process. I understand the overwhelming responsibility which they feel that they must exercise their vote, because of the romanticized historical relevance of the civil/voting rights movement…. especially in honour of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in this struggle. But from my perch in Canada, I see how easily those who want to exercise their right to vote for the candidate or party of their choice, are quickly “demonized” if they don’t conform to the groupthink. Then of course there is the choice between those who will “rape” you with vaseline and those who will “rape” you without vaseline. Insert whichever party, Democrats-Republicans, as the former or latter “perpet-raper”.
Therefore will the revolution be brought about by the “Bullet”. Back to the Beatles: “But when you talk about destruction… Don’t you know you can count me out…. ” The reality is that for Black people to engage in widespread violent revolution to break the chains of their oppression…. well let just say… the reality is that one of the basic requirements needed in an armed struggle is communication… and most of us either have revolving issues with paying bills on time or we are on a pay as you go plan for our “cellies”…. which just won’t cut it…. especially when you are about to forward intelligence on your enemies movements or attack formations! A “puff”.. the phone gets cut off! lol!
So what are we left with… well let me suggest that we employ the mindset of the Spartans…. as seen in the movie “300” (Tafari—quit drooling!). Let’s have a real revolution of thought and practice. Let us create a community of Black/African men and women who from birth are trained to be warriors, and by this I mean have a warrior mentality where their only… I repeat and emphasize, ONLY commitment is to this community. Two very difficult choices will have to be made for this to work. First, those who can’t or don’t measure up physically, emotionally, spiritually and/or make a real contribution to the community… we cut them loose. So those who are chronic substance abusers, societal and moral deviants (i.e murderers, abusers of women and children, etc.), those who are unteachable, those who cannot/will not develop a community first attitude, those who are weak willed and/or weak minded, and anything else that is an anchor to our progress…. we turn them out. Second, we don’t get hooked into other peoples/groups struggles. Let white women (feminists) fend for themselves. Let the homosexuals fight their own battles for their civil rights. Let the Native Indians (who owned slaves and are more than willing to disentangle themselves from that history) engage the white man in their own struggle. Let the poor white trailer trash agitate for their own political/economic empowerment. F*CK THE RAINBOW COALITION! It’s a burden on our advancement! It should be all about us and ONLY us. I contend that ONLY by this type of revolution, can even START to develop a strong and progressive Black/African community. Purification of community values. Single-mindedness of community purpose. Revolution of community focus.
The alternative…. well we may as well sing along with the Beatles: 'on’t you know it’s gonna be alright, alright, alright' as we are led as sheep to the slaughter. "
~Asabagna~
Thanks for dropping knowledge yawdie. This is why I blog, and this is why I read other people's blogs; so that I can get inspiration and knowledge from cats like you.
Truancy In My Village
I am afraid that many of my people won't like this post that I am about to drop, but it has to be said. Now first, let me say this right off the top, in the spirit of true disclosure: I don't have children, so I can't imagine how hard it must be to raise a child; especially in this day and age with all the negative influences and distractions all around them. But-you knew there was a but coming right-a recent incident in my hometown-Philadelphia- really pissed me off, and made me realize just how a sleep at the wheel some of us black folks are when it comes to this parenting thing.
Folks, it's like this: Here in Philly, we have had damn near 400 murders this year. Most of the crimes have been committed by young African American males, and most of the victims have been young African American males as well. Our Mayor, and all of our city officials, have been pulling their collective hairs out trying to come up with solutions and answers for this wave of violence and bloodshed that has been sweeping our city.
One solution they came up with was to try and cut back on the truancy in our public school system. And why not? In any given year at least 44% of our districts 180,000 public school kids are truant. (8 absences or more) Yes, you heard right, I said 44% or 80,000. And on any given day, and average of 32,000 kids are absent from school. According to a study by Ruth Curran Neild of Johns Hopkins University, 8,000 kids will drop out this year, and another 5,000 will miss so much school, that they might as well be considered dropouts. Now folks, that's a damn shame, and we all know it. And frankly, given the fact that a vast majority of these children look like me, it's particularly troubling to the field.
So our Mayor, in collaboration with the School Board, sent out letters to about 6,000 parents, stating something to the effect that: "Your child has had eight (8) unexcused absences during the 2005-2006 school year". (The operative word hear being YOUR child)Te letter goes on to say that parents must attend the meeting or face possible fines or jail time. So what do you think happened? Yep, only about half of the parents showed up at Temple University's basketball arena for this meeting. Now call me crazy, but if I get a letter from my child's school or worse, the city, telling me that little Jamal has missed 44% of his classes, and my black ass will be fined or face possible jail time; what do you think the field is going to do? Well, after jumping all over little Jamal's little black ass, I am going to be front and center at that meeting. "Mr. Mayor, I am Jamal's father, and I would personally like to pledge, that if little Jamal is not in school more than 44% of the time next school year, it will be because he is either dead or in jail".
Folks, this is not rocket science, there is a direct correlation between an education and where you end up in life. It's that simple: Drop out of high school with no skills, and you get no job, or if you get one, you get one that pays minimum wage. And who wants to work for minimum wage? Not little Jamal. He can't buy "tims", or put Dayton rims ("throw some "D"'s on that bitch") on that new "whip" with minimum wage pay. Hell, he can't get a new "whip" with minimum wage pay. So what's left for little Jamal to do but sling. Yeah he could make a real nice living doing that. But he has to be careful, because more than likely he will end up in jail or dead, like some of the almost 400 who were inside the chalk lines on these mean streets of killadelphia so far this year. Or, he could get some girl or girls pregnant, but then, no job, so how is he going to support his child? Well, there is always the state. After all, that's how his mother made it, and he really didn't know his real father. See what happens? We are back to that same old vicious cycle that just won't go away. Think about it, just days after the Mayor's meeting, it was business as usual, because our little villagers were missing school again.
So make no mistake, schooling is important, but you could never tell that to the almost 3,000 parents who blew off the meeting with the Mayor. Poor Mayor Street, there he was quoting that old African proverb, you know the one, the one Queen Hillary used for her book: "It takes a village to raise a child". No Mr. Mayor, it takes a parent to raise a child. The village, and the resources that the village has can only help with the process. The village produced the infrastructure of the school, the books, the teachers, and the tools to support little Jamal getting an education. The village can't wake Jamal up and make sure he goes to f*****g school! That's Mr. and Mrs. Jamal's job. And if there is no Mr. Jamal, oh well, that's Mommy Jamal's job. Oh field, stop being so tough, Mommy Jamal works two jobs, and she has three other children, and she is not getting any support from their fathers, and the old man she has now is cheating on her, and he abuses drugs, and.....yeah OK, well I have two words for Mommy Jamal: Birth Control. Yep, that will take care of all those problems in the future. And since little Jamal is already here-yeah that sp..ahem,ahem, horse already left the barn- can we just make sure little Jamal gets a shot? Would it be too much to ask that you go to a f*****g meeting? I don't know, even if you don't care what happens to little Jamal in school, maybe so that you won't get fined, or worse, arrested.
Now the village is hiring more truancy officers, from 100-500, and the Philadelphia Family Court is also working some special projects and hiring more people to help tackle the problem.-They heard 8,820 cases in truancy court so far this year alone. But somehow I don't think this will be enough. Because until parents in the homes start caring what happens to their children, the school board and the city will be caught in that vicious cycle with these dysfunctional families.
"We are here to send a clear message to the children and parents of this city, truancy will not be tolerated"
I hear you Mr. Mayor, I just wish more parents could have been there to hear you as well.
Looney Coons. (The Coonies)
You may have noticed some changes in the fields. Yep, it was getting a little gloomy around here. I mean, just because the world is going to hell in a hand basket, doesn't mean the fields can't at least try to look optimistic. Anyway, thanks to the boys at Blogger, the field updated his site a bit. It's also nice to be able to show some love to some fellow bloggers, and news organizations who the field has enjoyed reading from time to time. So now that we have that out of the way, I would like to recognize some individuals.
As you might or might not know, I previously handed out some awards to some individuals in the field of entertainment for their expertise in the art of cooning. People, who in fact, probably became American icons because of their cooning capabilities. People like Nipsey Russell, J.J. Walker, Al. Roker, Snoop,....and, well, you get the point. In that post, I also tried to explain the history of cooning and the harm that I think it has done to the plight and the perception of black people in this country. I am probably one of the few people in America who agreed with Adolph Caesar's character, Sgt. Walters, in the movie A Soldiers Story. Because even though he was hard on new recruit C.J. for his constant singing and shuffling, I agreed with him, because I dislike "shiftless lazy niggers" too.
But what I have noticed lately is a new form of cooning. It is an even more dangerous, and destructive form of cooning. Because it is cooning cloaked in intellectualism. This form of cooning hides itself behind legitimacy. And so called conscious thoughts, reasoning, and educated points of views are mixed in with it. The old cooning that Snoop, Nipsey, Martin, and the Wayans brothers do is not as dangerous, because we see it for what it is; entertainment. So although the imagery is not good, statements taking a particular position on important social issues of our day aren't being made, and books aren't being published, and there is no pontification about critical social issues on the nightly cable broadcasts from the Snoops of the world.
But make no mistake, the more dangerous coons are out doing these things. They are on blogs, writing books, on the news, and on talk shows every night. These "Looney Coons" as I like to call them [Sorry Warner Brothers & Walt Disney] are dangerous, and should be watched. Because many of the things needed to advance the cause of the poor and disenfranchised will be taken away because of these people. Why you say? I will tell you why. The people at the think tanks, and the politicians whose job it is to effect social and public policy, listen to these people. And the people who hold the purse strings to many of the private foundations and organizations listen to these people. And when these Loony Coons are making statements about black people needing to pull themselves up, and that we should start praying more, and we should do away with affirmative action, and we should let the free market control prices and.....blah, blah, blah, it effects us all in a negative way. You know the old joke: "If you want to hide something from a nigger put it in a book" Well, unfortunately, some of these Looney Coons found some books, and I will be damn if they didn't just lose their freaking minds in the process.
So without further delay, the top ten Looney Coons in America: (Not necessarily in their proper order.. well, except for Clarence Thomas)
1. Clarence Thomas-Yeah, like I would have anyone else here. (Read prior posts)
2. Thomas Sowell-An economist and so called intellectual who is the darling of the conservative movement. Unfortunately, the phrase compassionate conservative is an oxymoron to him.
3. Jesse Jackson-Why oh why is he still held out as the spokes person for black folks? May I suggest an ambassadorship to Syria?
4. Larry Elder- Someone forgot to tell Larry that the whole shock jock thing is played out now.
5. Cynthia McKinney-Yeah I know you got voted out, but girlfriend you are soooo embarrassing. And yeah, I know that cop that pulled you out of the line is probably a racist SOB, but you are a congresswoman for crying out loud; did you really have to go Russell Crowe on the guy with the cell phone? And memo to you; in the future, please surround yourself with smarter people. If you couldn't beat that Hank Johnson character it might be over for you in politics.
6. LaShawn Barber-Hard to believe I am even mentioning this loser in the same post with far more noteworthy and popular figures. But I must, because I suspect that it won't be long before, like Jessie Peterson, she will be propped up by right wing America to speak on all of our-black folks -behalf. And that my friends would be scary. Because this self hating, so called born again christian, (Whatever that is) thinks that god, and personal responsibility will solve all of our problems. She must have forgotten to pray when she say "Katrina" in the Gulf of Mexico; cause god sure wasn't listening to her or anyone else when that bad boy hit.
7. Ray Nagin-And speaking of Katrina, yeah I know the federal government f#$%*d up. ("Brownie you are doing a heck of a job") But my goodness man, did you have to totally lose it like that? "Tens of thousands dead in the streets of New Orleans.." Like what were you thinking? And your chocolate city remark; that was priceless. Yes I, and every other black person agrees with you, but the f#$%^%g mike was on, so you shut your mouth about stuff like that. You never ever ever let white folks know what we are thinking. Do you think they let us know what they are thinking? No, you shut up next time. So for those and other dumb comments, you are on this list.
8. Kofi Annan- U.N. what a joke! As long as that sh#* is going on in Darfur and your organization continues to sit on your ass, you are a Loony Coon in my book. Yeah you grin and smile a lot with world leaders, but you and your organization is a joke. Nice how you jumped all over brokering a deal and cease fire in Lebanon. Do you think your sorry black ass can try to do the same in Africa? Which by the way, the last time I checked, is where you are from.
9. Harold Ford, Jr.-Every time you talk your position changes, does it mean that much to you to get elected? And a little more about your personal life please Tig...I mean Harold.
10. Don King-You really should have been at the top of this list. You epitomize the Looney Coon character. From your hair, to your permanent grin, not to mention your phony loyalty to George Bush. I know you are a hustler from way back, but when you mix your hustle with political statements it's dangerous.
Honorable Mention:
Al. Sharpton - Rev. I don't know how you missed the top ten. I think I will make you 10A.
Ward Connerly-(See previous posts)
Star Parker-I hate myself, I hate myself, I hate myself, I hate myself.....
Michael Jordon - I will never forgive you for the Jessie Helms fiasco.
Jessie Peterson-(See previous posts)
Michael Eric Dyson-Just shut the F#%& up!
Oprah Winfrey-(See previous posts) Any black book of the month club nominee yet?
Joseph C. Philiips- Is there any agent in Hollywood listening? Joseph needs a job, and quick before he writes another book.
A.M. Tony Clayton- Tony, you are one of my best friends and like a brother to me, but until I hear that you take a deal from a black attorney like you do the white ones; you will stay on this list ;) Oh, and your "Coonie" is in the mail.
Sorry for some of the glitches on the site, but hey, if the field knew anything about computers he would not have gone into a field where he could take as little of the sciences as possible.
The field is out!
