I have been thinking about a few things today.

Like, for instance, why is it that so many rappers end up becoming actors? And, for the most part, pretty damn good ones. I thought about this because I saw where "The Game" is slated to play "Baracus" (Mr. T's character) in the new A-Team movie. I mean think about it: There is Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Ice T, Ice Cube, Ludacris, Eve, Andre 2000, that cat from Wu-Tang, and I could go on and on. And let's not forget Tupac; who had some serious skills in the acting department as well. (Watch him in Juice )
Then there is all the craziness in the news: "Air McNair " is dead. Apparently taken out by a distraught lover who then turned the gun on herself. Damn! I guess hell really "hath no fury".... This is another one of those stories that I can't discuss with Mrs. Field. I loved McNair as an athlete, and his death is devastating to me. But Mrs. Field? Not so much. She still can't get over the fact that my man was married with kids and might have just been creeping on the Mrs. when this tragedy went down.

Down in Central America a deposed leader can't even land his damn plane to go back to his country because soldiers are blocking the runway. (Yep, looks like a coup) Of course, his people aren't letting it go without a fight. They have been protesting in the streets, and one of them was shot and killed today. Still, it doesn't look like poor Manuel Zelaya will get his wish anytime soon. The military is not backing down.

It's funny, but we haven't heard a lot of support for the Zelaya supporters and his cause like we did for the folks in Iran. I wonder why? Could it be because he was a left leaning leader? Hmmmm.

Speaking of protesters; I see the"Teabaggers" are still at it. WTF, is wrong with you people? And where were you when the frat boy was running up the federal deficit? Here is my humble take on things: Shut the fuck up, and pay your taxes like the rest of us.

I am starting to think Janeane Garofalo was right about you clowns. But I tell you what; if you can honestly answer the questions Matt Taibbi posed to you without coming off like a bunch of partisans who just hate the fact that a black man is over the government that's getting your money, I will seriously reconsider my position about you. Promise.

And it looks like we have a serial killer in South Carolina. Not the governor; (I said serial killer no serial philanderer.) Like the D.C. Sniper before him, this nut case must be stopped, because his killings seem to be completely random and are taking place within a short period of time from each other. The poor people of Gaffney couldn't even celebrate A-merry-ca's birthday because they were so terrified of this guy. (No, not the governor, the only people who need to be terrified of him are the women of South Carolina between the ages of 18-80) Anyway, I am hoping that this guy will be caught very soon, (No, not the governor, he was already caught)and the people of Gaffney will be able to celebrate the 4th of July next year.

Finally, have they buried Mike yet? I can't tell, because every time another news story comes on about him I change the channel. My poor brain has MJ over-load.

I'm out. I have a long day tomorrow.

...and it's Andre 3000 sweetie...don't mess up my fantasy husband's name...errah ummmm...yeah...rappers are realizing that the money is in film and film opens up more doors for their music...Black actors have a hard time in Hollywood as is...and most likely it's easier for the industry to use their faces instead of using the same ol' Black actors over and over again..i.e. Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, blah, blah, blah...

and no MJ hasn't been buried yet.

I take no joy that Steve McNair lost his life; hopefully this incident scares some married philandering men and women straight. You know the mental health of your spouse, but you are playing with a loaded gun to have a little fun behind close doors.

The conclusion I have come to about the tea baggers and others is this:

The election of President Obama ignited many people for the wrong reason, but it also open many people eyes on how our Government has been treating regular Americans for decades. Unfortunately, President Obama now has to take the brunt of what has been happening to America for many years...America has been falling along time ago. People are just paying attention more and blaming it all on the Obama Administration.
Liberals, Conservatives, Democrat, Republican have been destroying this country for a long time. Too many American people have been asleep for years and the ones who try to sound the alarm have been ostracized one way or another.

American people are the pawns of what has been going on in the Washington chess game forever.
Our congressional representatives on both sides are bought and paid for.

MSM definitely knows how to turn a person off…enough is enough on Michael Jackson. Let the man RIP.

That was a laugh when I heard that on the news. Mom needs to make sure the children are out of the house before she gets busy.

The troubling thing about Honduras is that the military there doesn't make a move without a thumbs up from Uncle Sam, in this case the O-man, or rather his Wall Street buddies. Matt Taibbi forgot to mention that we are operating on the Bush Budget until September 30. Bush added the 780 billion dollars for TARP, the stimulus only cost 570 billion out of a budget that was already had a 1.7 Trillion deficit when President Obama took office. If the President had spent nothing the Tea Baggers great grandchildren would still be paying for the national debt existing before Jan 20. Count the Tea Baggers among the minions of the innumerate.

At this point, my heart goes out to Mrs. McNair. She is the one suffering. She is suffering the loss of the father of her children, the humiliation of her husband's philandering being front page news... I hope she has alot of support around her now. Irnoically, maybe all Michael, all the time, will knock this off the news cycle, for her.

As to Honduras v Iran. This is just getting started. The biggest difference I see here is that immediately, the OAS members have spoken out and demanded the return of the president. That, and they are already imposing sanctions, which in the case of Honduras, they cannot afford to endure. When Chavez and Euribe unite, along with Obama, that is a very different reaction. In Iran, neighboring countries were remarkably silent, and continue to be so... not so in this case.

I feel bad for McNair's family.

I think it's a problem that talented black actors are losing roles left and right to rappers.

Some rappers are talented and have proven it.

But the studios will go ahead and cast a rapper who has never acted before instead of a "real actor" because they thing it will put butts in the seats.

Mos def and Tupac were actors before becoming rappers.

If you can't get roles, you can't build an audience or improve your skills/work with great talent. Who is the next denzel? Who are the young black actors?

The teabaggers and the newly resigned Gov. Palin should start their own party or better yet their own country. Somewhere far away where we don't have to hear or deal with their ignorant asses anymore.

Rappers make great actors because they are acting already.
The Game? Mr. T was great because he was bigger than everyone else and you really believed he might eat your children. The dude from the Green Mile would fit that bill.

The tea partys are an obvious publicity stunt trying to rally the troops. They didn't need to complain when they were winning. I say its less about race and more about the Democrats being in power.

I talked to a guy who went to a teaparty and it made some sense from what he told me. Basically they feel like the government is spending wastefully like with pet projects and how departments keep funding. Of course I started wandering why are they complaining after we've wasted money on a war and taxes haven't skyrockected as some have said. To a point I think its all a disorganized mess of people just choosing to gripe when they are afraid the country is going to become socialist. I mean, it's like the guy in the post who wants the President to magically stop black folks from killing each other. I never saw a black conservative petitioning the past Presidents to end black on black violence eventhough a lot of families were destroyed when jobs left and crack came in. Then again, the black guy always has to be superhuman. Or maybe one group has something some black conservatives want, kind of like how we hear more about Iran over Hondurus. Let's be real: Iran has oil and Hondurus has bananas. People are going to afarid whenever there is a chance that they can't put gas in their Hummer, but never when they can't a banana split. Of the thing is if you get too worked up and the wrong side wins, best believe that we'll have $5 a gallon gas the next day.

I have always been irritated by how Hollywood seems to only cast black singers and rappers in movies but being a singer or a rapper is not a prerequisite for a white actor to get a role. Has anybody ever demanded that Angelina Jolie release an album? A prime example of the double standard is how Beyonce is a LOUSY actress yet she keeps getting cast in movies and stinking up the joint but actual black actresses aren't given a chance. This harkens back to that old adage that you have to do twice as much to get half as much.

I am saddened by the death of Steve McNair. He was truly a tough guy on the field and it's a shame he got taken down by a talentless girl who wasn't even cute. His story might serve as a cautionary tale but I doube it.

The teabaggers don't seem to really have a legitimate gripe but I guess it's hard to really speak when you're teabagging.

And this happens at all the top law firms in Philly. And the White people think it is just hilarious, all these rappers turned lawyers! And, when they go to court, it is a freaking minstrel show! Just a thugged out Black man who has no command of the law. You know, like back in the day White slave owners would dress the slaves up and make them "pretend" to be educated. How did the right-wing get people behind its absurd and unpopular economic platform of tax cuts, deregulation, status-quo health care, slashed entitlements and leaving homeowners to the wolves?

Enter the AIG-bonus scandal and a steady trickle of news about the mismanagement of the bailout billions and the corrupt backroom cronyism that has guided the whole process, from the Henry Paulson era straight into the Larry Summers/Tim Geithner era. These developments, all under liberal Democratic governance, enraged a lot of people and muddied the waters of outrage — and policy.

The AIG-bonus scandal put a handle on the irresponsible government policies that the Tea Party movement was supposedly rallying against. What could be more irresponsible than allowing financial executives that got America into this mess to walk away with multi-million dollar bonuses lifted from taxpayer money? The same people who cost millions of Americans their jobs and homes were taking what was left of the kitty to ensure that they could maintain their mansions-and-yachts lifestyles.

The Right twisted the issue by getting people to focus their rage on the government exclusively, forgetting the banker (who, in the conservative mind, is being overtaxed). The problem is the Left has been subdued, to put it mildly, in channeling rage at the bankers, in part because Obama's economic team in many ways is the bankers.

The Left should have been there to claim this genuine outrage from the very beginning. But it was late to the game. Until a new initiative called A New Way Forward began picking up steam a few weeks ago, a lot of people outraged by Obama's economic policies had only one place to go: their local FreedomWorks Tea Party.

Alicia, I am with you on Obama timidity in fixing what's really wrong with this country. But when you say...

"they want to know where all those jobs and saved homes obama promised are????"

I have to call BULLSHIT on that. They should be asking how we got in this mess in the first place, i.e., from the same type of government de-regulation that the Republicans like Phil Gramm espoused. "Get government off our back" are code words for "let us fuck the consumer up the ass".

The other thing is that they have the lack of education, and the gall, to call Obama a socialist. Tim Geithner is hardly a socialist firebrand reformer, if you feel me. For you to say the tea-bagging assholes are on the side of the people is pure lunacy. They are part of the problem.

Negro,

The fields will not be the same without you! However, I am withholding entrance until you peep the following:

Like I said before, for Tupac rap was simply the medium through which he found fame and stardom. However, he was an inherently gifted artist, beginning his career as an actor and dancer. He studied at the Baltimore School for the Arts and was receiving classic training as an actor and dancer.

Mos Def, my dear Field, "Mos Def studied experimental theatre at New York University. He began his professional acting career at the age of fourteen, appearing in the TV movie God Bless the Child, starring Mare Winningham." Okay, from Wikipedia, but the point is he STUDIED ACTING!

And lastly, Will Smith. Field, full disclosure, I am an artist as a profession and a passion. So, take it however you will, but actors, really good actors, are also inherently really smart people. In fact, one could argue that REALLY smart (genius perhaps) people are good at a lot of different things, because they posses the skills to understand the complexities of art, science, math, etc. One could argue that Will Smith has an uncanny way with many different things and that his ability as an actor is due to his high level of intellect. I could even go one step further and argue that "Parents just Don't Understand" and the accompanying video were just vehicles to showcase a budding acting talent.

And Queen Latifah? No Field, no. No. No. Just, no.

Not mentioning Meth and Red? You think you so cute, huh?

Alright, Negro, play time is over. Back in the fields with you!

I think Colin Powell is an objective person and has mentioned things he agreess with some of the measures of the President Obama and critiques, but still believves that he his doing a good job overall. Powell calls it likes he sees it. When I voted for Obama, I did not expect that he could do everything because there are some political realities. The government moves slows and did not expect any miracles. However, peopl get caught up with the Moses complex. We could have the alternative McCain for President, and Palin would resign from office at any given moment.

The McNair is a strang story, but like how the his friend came to the condo didn't realize anything was wrong at first then saw blood, leaves the condo calls his friend Robert (also McNair's), comes to the condo and he calls the police. Just something to think about.

The Jackson family should had a private ceremony for MJ last week, and organized a public memorial at a later in the month. I remember the similar thing when Elvis died, but with 24 hour cable news. The fans were crazy and some to this believe that Elvis is still alive, but there are some fans who believe that Tupac is still alive as well. The same thing will hold true for MJ, some of his fans will believe that he is still alive (literally). However, MJ became a cultural icon and an international figure as well so people will always be interested in him. For me, his music lives on that will continue to make us dance and sing. There is also Prince who I continue to enjoy listening to has well.

I for one, didn't give back my stimulus money. Did any of the whiners on here give theirs back?

Like it or not this is where we live. Even with all our problems...I'm not relocating.

If nothing else President Obama has made many new citizens pay attention to exactly what is going on in our government. People actually give a damn now for whatever reason.

Black Diaspora said...

A Little Fact Check Is In Order:

@MR.R: "At the end of Obama's first year, the deficit will reach 1.85 trillion."

"President Bush took office in January 2001, and therefore played a lead role in crafting the FY 2002-2008 budgets. Presidents Bush and Obama share responsibility for the FY 2009 budget deficit that overlaps their administrations, before President Obama assumes full budgetary responsibility beginning in FY 2010"

Why The Record Deficits?

"An analysis of past recessions in Western countries prepared for the IMF's half-yearly World Economic Outlook, concludes that this recession, unlike those in recent decades, has several features that are likely to make it deeper and more protracted than normal. [Business Day]

"*Recessions that stem from financial crises endure longer and go deeper than those with their roots in macro-economic problems.

"*Recessions that engulf the world last longer and are followed by weaker recoveries than those restricted to a single country.

"*Counter-cyclical monetary policy is largely ineffective in tackling a financial crisis, but expansionary fiscal policy "seems particularly effective in shortening recessions associated with financial crises, and (in) boosting recoveries.

[...]

"The results (of this analysis) suggest that recessions associated with financial crises tend to be unusually severe, and their recoveries typically slow," it concluded.

[...]

"It again spelt out the case for a strong fiscal policy response, with the Government acting as the "spender of last resort" to break the negative feedback between weaknesses in the financial sector and the real economy.

[...]

"But even with "coherent and comprehensive action", it concluded, 'recovery is likely to be slow and relatively weak'.

"And we don't hear a sound from all those Democrats who moaned about Bush's deficit."

There are deficits and there are deficits. The one initiated by President Obama's administration was designed to mitigate the recession that began under Bush's administration.

Chief among those tactics: "[A] strong fiscal policy response, with the Government acting as the "spender of last resort" to break the negative feedback between weaknesses in the financial sector and the real economy."

But you know this already! Your statement served to make a political point, without taking into account the true situation, and the reason behind President Obama's record deficit.

"And we don't hear a sound from all those Democrats who moaned about Bush's deficit."

When you understand the facts, and the reasoning behind the deficit, only the most diehard Obama detractor would characterize his actions as lamentable.

Mr.R,
That was Fed Fiscal Year 2008 not 2009. Obama budget has not been passed yet and it won't start until October 1, 2009, which will be FY2010. Obama's contribution this fiscal year has been the stimulus package and money for children's health care. Some of the other items passed were already in Bush's budget.
After TARP passed last year, the budget was expected to be around 1.4 trillion dollars. This was before the election.

You may not approve of the President's budget, but if you go to the FED website on national debt you can get better insight as to how the failure of the banks effected this budget.

I've read his bio. It says no such thing. Furthermore, Obama's stepfather, his mom's second husband, was Indonesian, not black. So much for your theory she had the hots for black men.

sharon

that indonesian's skin was blacker than most african american men i know..typically so

clearly you did not read anything therein about obama's "disgust" while he watched his mom drool over the film black orpheus/harry belafonte etc

retain/comprehend much?

so many herein feel that blatant lies constitute valid debate...why????...shame!!!

the book is available for all to read...do so again

not to mention that obama's alleged dad was an ebony skin muslim kenyan

re
classic jungle fever of his mom

Here’s the quote: “The storyline was simple: the myth of the ill-fated lovers Orpheus and Eurydice set in the favelas of Rio during carnival, in Technicolor splendour, set against scenic green hills, the black and brown Brazilians sang and danced and strummed guitars like carefree birds in colourful plumage. About halfway through the movie I decided I’d seen enough, and turned to my mother to see if she might be ready to go. But her face, lit by the blue glow of the screen, was set in a wistful gaze. At that moment I felt as if I were being given a window into her heart, the unreflective heart of her youth. I suddenly realised that the depiction of the childlike blacks I was now seeing on the screen, the reverse image of Conrad’s dark savages, was what my mother had carried with her to Hawaii all those years before, a reflection of the simple fantasies that had been forbidden to a white, middle-class girl from Kansas, the promise of another life: warm, sensual, exotic, different.”

there is much more in his bio

read it all therein!

re: lamenting his mother's fanatic obsession with harry belafonte as a carnal black ideal:

"The emotions between the races could never be pure; even love was tarnished by the desire to find in the other some element that was missing in ourselves. Whether we sought out our demons or salvation, the other race would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart.”

Wallace-Wells mentions in Rolling Stone:

QUOTE
There is an amazingly candid moment in Obama’s autobiography when he writes of his childhood discomfort at the way his mother would sexualize African-American men. ‘More than once,’ he recalls, ‘my mother would point out: “Harry Belafonte is the best-looking man on the planet.”’

What the focus groups his advisers conducted revealed was that Obama’s political career now depends, in some measure, upon a tamer version of this same feeling, on the complicated dynamics of how white women respond to a charismatic black man.

My late mom was also a big fan of Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier back in the 1960s. To her, they embodied an admirable combination of black masculine charm and white gentlemanliness. (In contrast, she thought Muhammad Ali, who is now the more popular representative of 1960s black manhood, an uncultured blowhard.) It sorely disappointed her when blacks burned down Watts in 1965. They were not following the fine example for their race set by Harry and Sidney. She would have liked Barack Obama, too, and for the same reasons.

obama = supreme racial player himself

just glad he too loves black flesh...like his white mom

ab-Your assessment of Obama is very wrong. You are from Chicago. Stop dissing on Obama!

alicia banks said...

obama dissed chicago much more than i do him....

ie by being mum about all the child murders raging on there etc

all the poverty that looms in chi this long hot unemployed homeless summer for so many etc

furthermore:

if i am dissing obama merely by quoting his very own tome verbatim...then he must be dissing himself/his mom etc too...no?

ab, you make me cry the way you talk about Obama. You talk as if he is the worst person on earth. He is not. He is a good person who is trying to save this nation that the last Admin. royally screwed up. Please, have mercy and give him some time.

Why haven't you and your BM hating girlfriends answered the comments in the post "Duke Revisited: Or Maybe Not"?

What's the matter, you Grata, La and focusedpurpose realized you are wrong in your thinking?
