Honestly, I don't know if that conversation took place between little Johny and his mom or not, but let me say this; knowing this area the way that I do, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it did.
Now what I do know is that a bunch of day campers made up of mostly black children, were told in no uncertain terms that they could not swim in the Valley Swim Club, pool. Yep, it seems the white parents and swim club members were outraged when they saw all the little Negroes invading their pool space. Poor white folks, No matter how hard they try they just can't get away from those Negroes.
Apparently, according to the President of the club, all those Negroes would change the color of the water in the pool. Did you know that if Negroes are in chlorine long enough that the black will come off? Nothing worse than trying to swim in dark water.
"There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club," John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.
Of course Mr. Duesler, I understand exactly where you are coming from. Nothing like a bunch of Negroes to change the "atmosphere" of a joint. Trust me, I know all about it, I invented the 12% rule.
"I heard this lady, she was like, 'Uh, what are all these black kids doing here?' She's like, 'I'm scared they might do something to my child,'" said camper Dymire Baylor.

Seriously folks, I have been getting e-mails from folks wondering about my hometown and how this can be happening in 2009. Folks, welcome to the real world. Philadelphia, Pistolvania is no different than Philadelphia, Mississippi in terms of racial attitudes. In fact, it might be worse. Oh it's a "city of neighborhoods" alright, and it's a proudly segregated one. But it's not just Philly; pick any city in the Northeast. Anyone. I guarantee you that you will find the same type of prejudices and ignorance among the races.
The Valley Swim Club is a nice Sunday morning jog from my house, and the type of people who make up the membership are the ones who joined to get away from all the Negroes who might pollute the city pools. So this story is not surprising. What's surprising is how surprised everyone seems to be that this actually happened. Obviously they don't read black blogs. And they certainly don't keep up with the racism chasers. If they did, they would realize that we can't keep up. Racism is all over the place, and chasing it is becoming just too damn hard.
Holla at the folks at The Valley Swim Club and let them know that in the age of Obama even little Negroes should be able to swim in peace.

As someone pointed out earlier, this was to be a specially arranged event due to the needs of the camp. This club ADVERTISED their facilities as welcoming day camps.

2) The free labor from the LOCAL COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS who see that their "free donation" of time to this community asset is worth it because by having these children in the community swimming together is valuable for the COMMUNITY BONDS that it builds.

Kathy - I went to Overbrook Elementary School with a guy named Darrin Brown. I am sure that you had the one "bad family" in your community when you were growing up. (We actually had 2 - the "Keys boys" also) Well the "Brown boys" were that family. All of the boys used to fight on a daily basis. They were bullies. They were the best fist fighters around though.
About 10 years ago Darrin Brown got into a fist fight at Tustin on the basketball court. He pummeled the guy good. (So I was told. I don't live there anymore). The next day, Darrin came back to play ball again. The guy he beat down ALSO came back. They played again and got into another battle. This time the other guy brought a GUN that was waiting for him in his sports bag. When he pulled the gun out everyone scrambled.
Darrin ran as well. Unfortunately he ran further into the playground, toward the enclosed pool area rather than up the stairs and onto the streets.
The guy shot Darrin in the back. Darrin ran for a bit more but then dropped to one knee. The shooter saw that he had hit him and then walked over to him.
He cocked his gun one more time and put a bullet into the back of Darrin's head. Darrin Brown is now DEAD. Killed right near the pool. The same fencing that was constructed to keep people from taking a late night swim and thus drowning was the same fencing that trapped him into the enclosed area where target practice was had upon him.

For once, I sort of agree with Constructive about a couple of things and that is blacks need to stop spending their money with white bigots, and two, start pouring their money into their own community and build it up. We need to stop spending our money where we are not wanted and making white bigots rich.
We need to start holding our wealthy blacks, entertainers, athletes, etc., to the fire too and get them to contribute to their own people and projects in our community. Back in the late 1800's and early 1900's blacks did it, and they can do it again. Black Wall Street and other black communities back then are models of it being done. Just think they started with little or nothing and did it. Hispanics and Asians do it, and so can we.
I don't agree with everything he said about the children because children are my heart. My motherly and protective instincts come into play when it comes to children. I don't play that at all!!! I should have been more detailed in my comments. I cited integration from the point of view that "well to do" blacks were allowed to move into white communities (along with their dollars) and patronize white businesses.
With de jure segregation, black dollars and white dollars circulated in the black community. Despite social segregation, many black merchants sold goods and services to white businesses.

Of course he meant that they OVERestimated the capacity, meaning that they estimated that the pool could hold more people than it actually could.

Jody - I already explained my position. $1900 was for the bus load of kids that went to the Private pool. A pool in their community would bring forth FAR MORE than 60 kids who took a bus trip and thus far more than $1900.
