A pervert goes to Washington?

I think Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore has a different take on the scriptures.

 I bet the good book was not around when he (Moore) was allegedly sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl back in the day.   

The GOP can't seem to catch a break these days. Roy Moore, if you believe the polls, will soon join his colleagues in Washington. And if you believe the well sourced story from the Washington Post, his buddies in the senate will have a pedophile to answer for. 

Of course this will be nothing new to them. They have been defending a president who has been accused of sexually assaulting numerous women, and who has admitted that he likes to assault women  all along.

As long as they can push through their agenda, it doesn't matter how morally bankrupt their ideological soul-mates are. Down in Alabama the auditor general of that state is actually using the aforementioned bible to defend the actions of Moore.

" Even if the allegations of sexual misconduct made against Roy Moore are true, it's no big deal that he was a 32-year-old man initiating an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old girl, because the Bible is filled with stories of older men with younger women, Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler told The Washington Examiner Thursday.

"Take the Bible, Zachariah and Elizabeth for instance," Ziegler said. "Zachariah was extremely old to marry Elizabeth and they became the parents of John the Baptist. Also take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus. There's just nothing immoral or illegal here. Maybe just a little bit unusual."'

Who knew that pedophilia was a religious thing? So let me get this straight, Roy Moore is Joseph and his poor (alleged) 14 year old victim is Mary?  OK then.

The news of Mr. Moore's alleged escapades comes on the day we learned that the president was offered five women as a gift from the Russian government on a trip there in 2013. His bodyguard said they didn't take the Russians up on their offer, and that he just laughed about it.

That's the bodyguard's story and he is sticking to it.

 

Terror in California, and abuse of power in Alabama.

     We have had an entire day to process the horrific killing of 14 people in So Cal by this Muslim version of Bonnie & Clyde yesterday.

Authorities still can't figure out exactly how this went down. Although they are now saying that the male shooter was "radicalized". (I am still not sure what that means. ) Dude was actually born in America, but somewhere along the line it would appear that he developed some bad feelings about his country and its culture.

Anyway, the hand- wringing will now start in earnest. We will hear that we have to be more vigilant, that we have to do something about guns, and that we have to stem the flow of immigrants into our country. Muslims in America will be subject to extra scrutiny. (Been there done that. Black folks enjoy the break. )

There was another shooting in California this week, and this one, like others of late, brings into question how justice is administered in this country.

"In the video, a semi-circle of police officers surround a man backed up against the wall of a building. When he starts to walk away from them, a volley of shots ring out.

The footage, which appears to have been filmed by a passenger on a bus next to the scene, was posted to Instagram Wednesday night and quickly lit up the internet. But San Francisco police say the man had a knife and that they first fired beanbags and shot the ground in front of him with another less lethal weapon.

“We have since recovered or found some video, they appear to show the officers encircle him and they appear to show the suspect moving toward the officer before the shots were fired,” Police Chief Greg Suhr told the San Francisco Examiner. The police say the man was in the same area where someone got stabbed about 45 minutes earlier.

His identity is irrelevant. He was young, black, and most likely poor. Unfortunately for him, that was not a good look for San Francisco's gentrified face.

Finally, speaking of young and black, if you were in that group and you have been living in and around Dothan, Alabama, you should think about calling a civil rights lawyer.

"A newly-leaked report has just proven what many African Americans in Alabama have been saying for years: that police officers in the City of Dothan had been planting evidence on African American men they didn’t like, for many years.

The shocking new report from the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Alabama Justice Project reveals that police officers in Dothan, Alabama, planted drugs and weapons on thousands of African Americans – of which hundreds are still in prison on false charges.

The proof of these claims has been revealed by none other than police officers themselves, who say that “the public has a right to know that the Dothan Police Department, and District Attorney Doug Valeska, targeted young black men by planting drugs and weapons on them over a decade.
Most of the young men were prosecuted, many sentenced to prison, and some are still in prison. Many of the officers involved were subsequently promoted and are in leadership positions in law enforcement.

 They hope the mood of the country is one that demands action and that the US Department of Justice will intervene.”

Their revelation tells that a narcotics investigation squad for the police department in Dothan planted drugs and weapons on young African American men since the mid-1990s.

All of this has happened with the knowledge and approval of their supervisors. One of them has even ascended to the position of the state’s Assistant Director of Homeland Security.

According to the Henry County Report, Andy Hughes had been a sergeant in the department during the time when he was overseeing the unit in question.

During that time, he was also a leader in a neo-Confederate group that was largely made up of police officers and fellow supervisor Steve Parrish.
Now Parrish, who was at the time a lieutenant, is the city’s police chief.

Both Parrish and Hughes have been frequently mentioned in an internal affairs investigation. But the then-Police Chief John White and District Attorney Doug Valeska never notified federal or state officials about the probe. "[Story and report here.]

So a bunch of racists infiltrate an entire police department and abuse the civil rights of citizens of color.

Bad history.

I saw Selma recently with wifey from the comfort of our home. My wife is younger and from the South so she loves to watch historical movies like this that deal with the civil rights struggle. She says that they make her angry (this one was no exception), but she admits that it's a necessary evil in learning to better understand the history of her country. 

Anyway, if you know the history of voting rights in the South you will understand what the movie Selma was all about. Now, sadly, history is repeating itself in the "Land Of Dixie".

"Although the 2016 presidential election is still more than a year away, Americans are already inundated with campaign promises and a flurry of candidates. But Alabama residents have more to worry about than simply picking a party.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced this week that it is closing 31 satellite DMV offices owing to budget cuts. That will leave 28 counties in the state without a place for residents to get the government-issued photo IDs they need to vote. Although it’s a statewide cut, the effects of the shutdown will be felt disproportionately.

“Depending on which counties you count as being in Alabama’s Black Belt, either 12 or 15 Black Belt counties soon won’t have a place to get a driver’s license,” wrote Alabama columnist Kyle Whitmore. “Counties where some of the state’s poorest live. Counties that are majority African American.”

In 2014, Alabama became one of 17 states that require a government-issued photo ID—driver’s license being the most common—in order to cast a ballot. When the measure was under consideration back in 2011, the American Civil Liberties Union lobbied against it, concerned that requiring photo IDs would disenfranchise black voters. Proponents of the measure said strict ID laws would prevent voter fraud. The ACLU argued that as more black residents took public transportation than white residents (62 percent versus 34 percent), black residents were less likely to already have the driver’s license they would need to vote.

Now, there will be fewer places to obtain the IDs needed to participate in the country’s democracy. The newly shuttered offices accounted for 5 percent of the state’s driver’s license transactions, according to the ALEA. Authorities also proposed sending out mobile I.D. vans and crews to affected counties. But rights activists argue that the vans are poorly publicized, and that any sort of restriction is problematic." [Source]

I suspect that there will be more of these types of cuts to come in states with strict voter ID laws that happen to have a large black population. We could see this okey -doke coming from a mile away: Pass stricter laws requiring voter identification, and close the very places that make these cards available to the public.   

Alabama joins states like Texas that are making it hard for people of color because of either racism, politics, or both. I personally suspect the latter.

"Two years ago, Alabama would have needed federal approval to make such a change. A 2013 Supreme Court decision invalidated sections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act that required states well known for discrimination, including Alabama, be overseen by the federal government to implement any laws that could impact voting. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority decision that “our country has changed,”'

I bet people like John Roberts said the same thing right after Selma.

Another young black female dies in police custody.

I am still trying to figure out what happened to Sandra Bland. I know what the police in Texas say happened, but you will have to excuse me if I don't believe it.

You see, I happen to be a black man in America, and I have been paying close attention to what has been happening to people of color when they come in contact with law enforcement over the past few months.

So anyway, while we are still trying to figure out what happened to Sandra Bland, the sad and horrific story of Kindra Darnell Chapman (in picture) got my attention.


Here is how the story was told by a "main stream" website which is run by a major newspaper in the state of Alabama:

"An 18-year-old girl hanged herself in the Homewood City Jail Tuesday night.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the inmate as Kindra Darnell Chapman. Chapman was booked in the jail at 6:22 p.m., on a first-degree robbery charge. Homewood police said she robbed another person of a cell phone in the 1600 block of Lakeshore Court.

Jailers last saw her alive at 6:30 p.m. She was found unresponsive at 7:50 p.m. Authorities said she used a bed sheet to hang herself.

Chapman was taken to Brookwood Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Yes, and I am sure that we will get the truth from law enforcement in Alabama.

My first thought about this incident was that we have been down this road before.

Remember Sheneque Proctor? She was also 18 when she was found dead in an Alabama jail cell.

Being hung in a jail cell should not be a right of passage for young women of color in Alabama.  Sadly it seems that it might not be such a stretch to say that it is.

"James Craig Anderson sang tenor in the choir at the First Hyde Park Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. He’d worked at a car plant near Jackson for seven years, and he enjoyed gardening in his free time. Anderson’s partner of 17 years, a man named James Bradfield, was the legal guardian of a 4 year-old child, and Anderson and Bradfield were raising the child together. This child will not grow up in Anderson’s care, however, because Anderson was killed by a mob of white teenagers.

The murder of Mr. Anderson recalls Jim Crow era lynchings. On a Sunday morning shortly before dawn, a group of teenagers were drinking in the nearby town of Puckett. According to police, one of them told his friends they should leave and “go fuck with some niggers.” Two carloads of the boys then drove to Jackson, where they found Anderson in a parking lot, beat him, and then drove their pickup truck over him. During the beating, some of the teens reportedly yelled out the words “white power.”

Yet, while Anderson’s death may resemble Klan violence from another era, it is hardly a memory from a distant past. James Craig Anderson died in 2011. Three of his killers were sentenced Tuesday by a federal judge.

Judge Carlton Reeves delivered fairly substantial remarks at the sentencing hearing. His full remarks are worth reading in their entirety. In them, he laments the “toxic mix of alcohol, foolishness and unadulterated hatred” that “caused these young people to resurrect the nightmarish specter of lynchings and lynch mobs from the Mississippi we long to forget,” and he lays out the brutal history of racial violence that still defines Mississippi in many people’s minds. Quoting one author’s description of the state, Judge Reeves says that “there is something different about Mississippi; something almost unspeakably primal and vicious; something savage unleashed there that has yet to come to rest.”

This history, according to Reeves, stands in tension with what the judge labels the “New Mississippi.” This is the Mississippi that has struggled to lift the state “from the abyss of moral depravity in which it once so proudly floundered in.” And the murder of James Craig Anderson “ripped off the scab of the healing scars of Mississippi . . . causing her (our Mississippi) to bleed again.”' [Source]

I know I know, we are "post racial" now. And folks like that color arousal agitator, the field Negro, is just looking for racism to chase to stir up folks.

If only that was true.

Sadly, it's not only Mississippi, it's places like Alabama as well. Where police officers can brutalize an elderly man who doesn't speak English because he is...well.. different.

The good news is that the police officer in Alabama has been arrested. And, like the animals in Mississippi, he will have to answer for his crime.

The bad news is that America continues to think that she has turned the corner on racism and ignorance.

"On Tuesday, Anderson’s family found justice. But Anderson remains dead. Mr. Bradfield, a man who cannot even call himself a widower due to another form of unconstitutional injustice, said in a statement to the court that his adopted son sleeps in his bed because “he doesn’t want those people to get me.” The United States of America has a black president. That president appointed a black judge, a black attorney general, and a black prosecutor. And none of these men have the power to restore what a small band of drunk teenagers took away from Anderson and his family.

Almost two years to the day after racism killed James Craig Anderson, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Shelby County v. Holder. “Things have changed in the South,” Chief Justice John Roberts explained in his opinion for the Court. “Blatantly discriminatory evasions of federal decrees are rare. And minority candidates hold office at unprecedented levels.” On these points, the Chief Justice is correct. The South is different than it was in 1965. Racial minorities do enjoy high offices, including the office of President of the United States.

But it only took a few boys from a tiny town in the poorest state in the nation to re-create the age of Jim Crow lynchings.

This is what Chief Justice Roberts missed in his opinion scrapping a key provision of the Voting Rights Act on the theory that it did not reflect “current needs.” He missed the fact that racism can be an intensely individualistic crime against reason. A police force can be committed to equality, and a single cop can still fire impulsively on a black suspect. A nation can be committed to universal suffrage, and yet a single state legislature can erect obstacles to the right to vote. Lynchings are now infrequent in the South, but that does not make Anderson’s death any less tragic. And it certainly does not justify eliminating laws banning racially-motivated killings.

We are fortunate to live in a nation where most people do not commit serious violations of the law. Most employers do not act with racist intent. Most cops do not fire their guns unnecessarily. Most teenagers do not follow up a night of drinking with violence. Judge Reeves’ “New Mississippi” is slowly but consistently displacing the old one.

But that does not mean that we should make Roberts’ mistake of blurring the line between less racism and no racism. Anderson did not die due to a racist regime of state-sponsored apartheid, he died because of a small band of hateful Americans."

And because a majority of Americans choose to believe that those "small bands of hateful Americans" do not exist.








 

Every white person hates Chris.

Chris Rock had a show on television called "Everybody Hates Chris". I think it was loosely based on his days growing up in New York. Anyway, I don't know exactly how much hate Chris experienced growing up, but unfortunately for him, he is about to experience it again. At least from some folks.

Chris made the mistake of bringing up an uncomfortable truth about America's past, -albeit in a joking manner to his twitter followers- and, as is to be expected, America is not pleased.

"..Some took offense to his words, like libertarian blogger Jeff Schreiber. He replied, "Slavery existed for 2000 years before America. We eradicated it in 100 years. We now have a Black POTUS." Another tweeter wrote, "Dear @ChrisRock: Without July 4, 1776, December 6, 1865 wouldn't have happened."

Here in America we like to keep certain things in the closet, and pretend that it never happened. "It was soooo long ago" . And when some rich black dude reminds us, it really pisses us off.

The funny thing is that Rock became so popular with white folks because he dared to joke about uncomfortable truths about us black folks. White folks ate it up, and his bank account just kept getting bigger with each punch line. Of course that was different.

I bet I know one person in America who agrees with Mr. Rock. -that the 4th of July is for white people- That would be my buddy William Collier. Mr. Collier is the pastor of Church of God's Chosen, and he is holding a special conference down in Alabama:

"William J. Collier, pastor of Church of God’s Chosen, is holding a Whites-Only conference in the good ole’ state of Alabama, and he’s not making any apologies for it, reports the...

 ...We don’t have the facilities to accommodate other people. We haven’t got any invitations to black, Muslim events. Of course we are not invited to Jewish events and stuff,” he said. “”We are not breaking any laws, we are not violating any ordinances, we are bringing the word of God to people who want it … who are part of the chosen race.." The field Negro Noose Shop

Now this shit is getting ridiculous. (Thanks for jumping on this EV) I mean it just kept getting closer and closer, and now the noose is right in my home town. What is it with folks in the frat boy's A-merry-ca all of a sudden with these nooses?

But fuck it, you know what? Rather than bitch and moan about it, I am going to try and make the best of a bad situation, and maybe even make some money from these sad developments. After all, that is the A-merry-can way right?

So folks, I have decided to open a Noose Shop. Yes you heard me, a Noose Shop. I have a little money saved up. I figure I can take out a small business loan, get a nice little commercial store front property right there on South Street, (Perfect name right?) and get down to business. Hey, nooses are the in thing in A-merry-ca now.

I could sell all types of nooses. Think about it? The noose will be already tied, and all you would have to do is come in, pick out your favorite noose, and roll. No questions asked, just pay your cash, get your noose, and go. I would expand my inventory and offer noose accessories too. Want to to be able to carry your noose wherever you go? How about a nice noose case? Want somewhere to hang your noose when there is nothing around? How about your own portable noose hooks. Or better yet, a fake tree?

I think A-merry-ca is ready for this you all, I really do. And in my noose store the customer will come first. We will sell you nooses in all different sizes. We could sell you a big noose for things like a construction site or a large tree. Or, we could sell you a small one, for say, a school locker, or a door. We could sell neon nooses that glow in the dark for a night time effect, and we could sell camouflaged colored ones for blending in outdoors. That one would be great, because the intended victim wouldn't even know that he is standing right under a tree with a noose until it's too late.

I didn't even get to the colored nooses yet. ( No pun intended black folks) But think of all the possibilities with that one. You could get a noose with your favorite school colors for all those late night college pranks. Think about it. Blue and white for all you Penn State fans. Purple and gold for all you LSU fans, and crimson and white for all you Alabama fans. (I bet that one will really sell). But wait, I could do more, I could even have corporate nooses as well. You gotta love that idea; your corporations logo right on your noose. I bet that FOX NEWS noose would just fly off the shelf.

Yep, I am going to start setting up my business plan right away before someone else steals my idea. I will set up my first store right here in Philly. How appropriate; after all, wasn't Philadelphia A-merry-ca's first capitol? Why not be the city with the first noose shop? Then I will branch out. I will set up franchises (I am sure I won't have any problems getting folks to buy in) from California to Maine. It will be like the Golden Arches, but instead of a big "M", it will be a big brown rope.

Now if I could just think of a name.........
