American suckers.

Image result for make america great again imagesLike other people who watch politics for fun, and view it as something akin to the National Football League, I am really enjoying this summer of Donald Trump right now.

I bet he can't even believe what a ride he is having. Dude must pinch himself every time he wakes up in his gaudy gold crusted bed.  The guy puts his foot deeper in his mouth, and his lead in the polls widen. Go figure. (What was that P.T. Barnum said? Oh yea, something about a sucker.)

All of this is causing the GOP establishment and the also- rans who make up their field of presidential contenders some serious consternation.

And journalists can't write enough about his unlikely and incredible lead in the polls. It's like a college football team leading the New England Patriots at half time.

"I feel like I've written this post four or five times now. But I just cannot get over or even fully get my head around the way that Donald Trump's mere presence in the race has this power to drive everyone on the Republican side of the aisle insane. I don't mean just that they don't like that he's in the lead and creating campaign havoc. I mean forgetting who they are, getting into fights with each other, and just generally losing their minds.

It's like one of these classic Star Trek episodes where some malevolent non-corporeal force is driving everyone mad or putting everyone at each other's throats for some unknown reason. But it's not non-corporeal at all. It's extremely corporeal, more than you and me. It's Donald Trump.

The latest example - actually the second that involves him, the first being the Trump-triggered feud with Bristol Palin - is with Erick Erickson.

Erickson has posted a series of rage- and expletive-filled emails he got from Trump supporters after he tried to knock Trump when Erickson thought he was done - just after the Fox GOP debate when he thought Trump was on the ropes and conservatives were turning on him. As we know, Trump wasn't down at all. He was only getting stronger, about to successfully pocket an abject surrender from Fox News and perhaps even force Fox to turn over hostages for good behavior.

This has inspired Erickson to opine about the toxicity of public rhetoric today and importance of civility and being "happy warriors." My point here isn't to bash Erickson. He's a friendly enough guy in person. But he is not a civility guy. No way, no how, not even remotely. But now he's come into the Trump harmonic convergence field and apparently forgotten who he is and lost his mind.

Like I said, I don't know how Trump does it. He may have superpowers that require him to be President." [Source]

Poor John Marshall cant figure it out, either.

The folks over at FOX  are losing their minds as they count their money. (I saw those debate ratings)
This time, though, they might have sold their souls to the wrong devil. Unlike other right wing political candidates, this one cannot be controlled. So Megyn took an unsuspected vacation, Trump is bragging about beating them, and deep within the bowels of the wingnut echo chamber there are different sounds coming from different places.

This has been fun to watch, but I am almost out of popcorn. Honestly, I thought that this freak show would have been over by now.

Nothing could be funnier than Erick Erickson, a proud member of the Asshole Hall of Fame, lecturing anybody on civility.

This is a guy who said Hillary Clinton couldn't win the presidency because she's too old and ugly-looking. Or, in Erickson's words, “I don’t know how far back they can pull her face!”

This is also somebody who referred to discussions of women's issues at the Democratic Party Convention as "the Vagina Monologues." (Okay, I admit I laughed a little at this one. I'm not perfect and it was mildly funny. But no one could honestly describe this as anything but rude and offensive.)

These are by no means out-of-character moments for Erickson, either.

To see Erickson attempt to take Trump to task for being impolite and sexist is gut-bustingly, hilariously hypocritical.

This freak show started before the civil war, and as long as there's an America, it'll probably never be over. Trump is just the latest monster to shamble forth from the factory. A long time ago, there were some voices opposed to the construction of the monster factory, but they couldn't answer the question "How are we supposed to win elections" without uttering the word that shall not be spoken: "compromise". And now, there isn't anyone left to compromise with; it's all monster, all the time. The only people really surprised by this development are centrist pundits, and they are mostly lying about being surprised because their livelihoods depend on both sides being equally wrong about everything, always.

What a LOL post this evening, especially the gem about running out of popcorn for Trump/GOP Show.

Interestingly, John Kasich was correct saying it's a huge mistake to dismiss the folks who are supporting The Donald. Case in point is Mr. Trump's full proposal for immigration reform.

Though I'm sure fact-checking efforts for much of the data is still underway, here's a very informative read:

Unfortunately, you can't dismiss the substantial numbers of racists in the Republican Party. All you can hope for is that by being so openly hateful, they manage to sabotage their own chances at getting anywhere near the levers of power.

Trump's proposals themselves are utterly ridiculous. Eliminating "soil citizenship" would require a constitutional amendment, which Trump could never make happen. Building a wall on the southern border and making the Mexicans pay for it (lol!) -- it's flat-out impossible. Eliminating remittances to Mexico and/or deporting 11 million illegal residents back south of the border would likely cause a humanitarian disaster in that country. Those are just the highlights of his profoundly unserious ideas.

He might as well suggest that the Department of Homeland Security fund research to develop an anti-immigration magic wand that he could wave over Latinos to make them disappear.

That Republican primary voters don't perceive that the dude is a walking punch line speaks to the fact that the GOP is a hop, skip, and a jump away from embracing actual fascism.

Maybe Trump will make Republicans take a long look in the mirror. I forget who said it but they wrote that by nominating Trump the gop will take the only path they have left to remake themselves and become a serious party. A 1964 kinda year. Chris Matthews thinks the Donald might actually get the nomination. Trump vs. Sanders, can you imagine? Ralph Nader picked the wrong year to be dormant. Ha!

You still don't get it. Donald Trump is for real. He is Reality in America. If he wasn't we wouldn't be talking about him. So many voters are FOR Trump and they are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. This man crosses ALL lines.

The others just can't face the reality that Trump is where he is at. It's like a bad dream for the Republicans and discounted by Democrats sitting in their living room eating popcorn, thinking 'it's a movie that will end soon.'

No it won't. And here's something else for ya: Donald's VP will either be Fiorino or Ben Carson. For those of you who are running out of popcorn, you need to take Trump and America very seriously, or at least get another bucket of popcorn and pig out until Trump takes the Presidential Oath.

Limpbaugh said...

I could understand it if Trump were popular because his competition is so bad. But I don't think Republicans see it that way. I think they like his racist rhetoric. Him not being a politician helps. Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina are up in the polls too. And Trump does seem to be less owned by special interests than most of the others. Most of his positions are Fox News talking points, but I do think he has a few good ideas mixed in with the crap. Tariffs probably are the only way to get jobs back. And I have long thought that ending birthright citizenship is what should be done to curb illegal immigration. I think that is the only thing that should be done and I wouldn't get all retroactive about it. It would cut the hospital expenses if a newborn has to have at least one citizen parent. People wouldn't come here just to have babies. I don't think of illegal immigration as something that needs to be completely eliminated. Cutting it down would be good enough. Americans don't want to pluck chickens or pick cabbage, but we could use more construction jobs.

Trump does it through being Trump, "authentic". That resonates with the American people.

These same people who said Trump can't win are the same people who are now claiming Trump can't make Mexico pay for the wall. How do these people know when they can't even see, or understand how Trump continues to rise in the polls?

Trump is a business man and one of the best. A superb businessman is also a tough negotiator. That is something we haven't seen in some time.

Blacks and Whites working together, and no illegal aliens on stage under Trump's Administration. Brother Field, it will be beautiful. I am getting excited just thinking about it as I am sure all FN posters and readers are.

Of course, consideration will be given to illegal aliens in building the wall as long as they stay on their side of the border.

Brother Field, are you, as a bm, considering voting for Trump? There is money in it for you down the road.

It's wingnut nonsense-speak. Don't try and understand it.

These guys never stick their heads outside their little club of like-minded knuckle-draggers, so they don't understand that those who support their belief systems are a rapidly shrinking slice of the electorate. This is why they are shocked and then enraged when "unthinkable" things happen -- like Obama getting elected, the Affordable Care Act passing, or gay marriage becoming legal.

This is not a real problem.

Contrary to what you might have heard, there is not some huge influx of people coming here solely to give birth. There is this stupid right-wing lie about "anchor babies," who were allegedly produced only for the purpose of enabling their parents to get residency. But U.S. immigration law does not work like that. Having a kid who's a U.S. citizen doesn't in any way help the parents get residency until the child reaches the age of majority. Illegal residents are deported all the time, despite having kids who are legal American citizens.

This is actually what is tragic about our current situation. Deportations are regularly breaking up families, with parents being deported while their kids stay here.

When children of illegal immigrants are born here, it is almost always because their parents already happened to be living here. You aren't likely to see anyone sneak across the border, pop out a baby, then hightail it back across the border to Mexico. That virtually never happens.

Though no dismissing what Anon @11:48 PM is saying about elements of racism, Anon's post @1:02 AM is not totally out of left field either with regard to diverse groups of the electorate who are fed up with politics as usual.

And how many times has the conservative movement been especially incredulous with black voters supporting the president's immigration policy or Dream Act that does little to resolve double digit unemployment in urban communities.

While much of the Trump proposal could be a logistical nightmare, I do agree more oversight is required to enforce e-Verify.

@PC & Mr. Field... Is it possible "Anon, as a BM" could self-identify as a black person?

Have no idea whether this gentleman is black, white or vulcan. But do check out the O'Reilly Factor link, in which his "Tip of the Day" on 08/07/15 featured a video clip of an Earth, Wind & Fire performance.

The EWF concert also included the band Chicago. Think O'Reilly said the concert was attended by 14,000 people from all walks of life. As Anon mentioned, the main point was racial harmony is indeed achievable.

Though let's also be truthful to the fact that much of the Fox brand is rooted in a discourse that makes the so called "No Spin Zone" a parallel universe.

And very true the opposite extreme at times is the radical left fringe groups: f--- the police; all republicans are racist; as well as those on the left that don't promote compromise either.

I enjoyed your post, Anon, and agree Bill O'Reilly was graciously on target with a positive message.

Thanks Faith. I appreciate the consideration. And yes, I am Black, an old one at that. I am over 80+ years and have never encountered the kind of Blacks like PC and Field. There is an old saying, "All skin is not kin." That's the way I see PC and Field. They talk, but have no idea what it is to be a black person. They have made up rules in their distorted minds that "if" a black person says, "as a bm,..." that is an indication that he is NOT Black.

Any black person with grandparents such as me know that is not true. It saddens me that we keep segregating and ostracizing ourselves. Everyone, esp Blacks, need to belong, and to be able to express themselves as they wish without folks like Field and PC accusing a brother of not being black, or black enough.

The rhyme, "Field is not just a racism chaser; he is a black hater" suits him well.

Anyway, thanks. At least you open minded enough to know all Blacks are not the same.

Nah, he's just saying he doesn't have to answer to wealthy campaign donors because he is a billionaire and can therefore act in the interests of the voters alone. According to Trump, this means he will act in the interests of the common people.

Of course, this is idiotic logic. Trump may not be influenced by special interests; however, we're all supposed to overlook that HE IS A SPECIAL INTEREST. Donald Trump is a billionaire whose personal economic interests do not align with those of 99.999% of the American populace.

Are there rich guys in politics who have acted out of altruism and empathy, not greed? Sure, there always are (they usually get maligned by the wingnuts as "champagne socialists".) FDR was one of those guys. But Trump has never shown an ounce of empathy towards anyone, ever. He is a slum landlord, a trashy casino developer, and a bigoted, attention-seeking malignant narcissist. If you think he suddenly grew a conscience and started giving a shit about anybody besides Trump, then you seriously need to catch a clue.

But Trump isn't new money. He's not some kind of bootstrap success story who built his wealth up from nothing through the sweat of his brow alone. He inherited his father's real estate empire. You didn't think he was a "self-made man," did you? There are frankly few enough of those around.

Finally got a chance to view YouTube link that Bill posted this morning. Not the greatest audio; so I googled a website summary detailing the exchange between democratic presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton and the five activists representing the Boston chapter of Black Lives Matter.

http://www.theroot.com/articles/news/2015/08/watch_black_lives_matter_activists_confront_hillary_clinton.html

Must say when viewing the video clips made available on evening newscasts, I don't agree that Mrs. Clinton snapped. Plus her communication style is often gesture-based (finger pointing) to stay on topic.

Given the 21st century dynamics of social, economic and political activism, I'm beginning to believe that much of tension from Bernie Sanders to Martin O'Malley to Hillary Clinton is the result of not being fully versed in the the urgency of comprehensive reforms that effectively resolve social injustice as well as economic inequity.

Bernie Sanders is taken aback due to embracing and enacting civil rights legislation throughout much of his career. And Hillary Clinton, when meeting with the activists, seems somewhat out of touch being in a position to answer for criminal justice policies enacted during the Clinton Administration in the 90s.

Best take-away is Daunasia Yancey's interview with Joy-Ann Reed, hosting Melissa Harris-Perry's show on 08/15/15. Though Ms. Yancey said there really was not a whole lot of time getting into specifics, she felt the group made progress articulating their position with candidate Clinton.

If Charles Manson were able to run for Republican President, he'd have followers in the Greatest Country.
