Ted's World.

I believe that this Ted Cruz dude is off the republican reservation. He has been making a lot of noise about Obamacare these days and dividing his party while doing it. It's gotten so bad that they sent the republican news corporation opposition research on him before he appeared with republican spokesperson, Chris Wallace.

"Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace said Sunday morning that he’d received opposition research from other Republicans about Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in advance of Cruz’s appearance this morning, a serious indication of how upset the GOP is with the Senator leading the risky charge to defund ObamaCare.

“This has been one of the strangest weeks I’ve ever had in Washington,” Wallace said. “As soon as we listed Ted Cruz as our featured guest this week, I got unsolicited research and questions, not from Democrats but from top Republicans, to hammer Cruz.”

“This was a strategy laid out by Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz without any consultation with their colleagues,” said Karl Rove. “With all due respect to my junior Senator from Texas, I suspect this is the first time that the end game was described to any Republican Senator. They had to tune in to listen to you to find out what Ted’s next step was in the strategy.”

“You cannot build a Congressional majority, in either party, for any kind of action, unless you are treating your colleagues with some certain amount of respect, and saying, ‘Hey, what do you think of my idea?’” Rove said. “Instead they have dictated to their colleagues through the media, and through public statements, and not consulted them about this strategy at all.”

Rove also corrected Cruz’s interpretation of a Wall Street Journal as giving the GOP the advantage on whom Americans trust on health care. “I wish that were true,” Rove said, pointing out that Democrats still held the advantage, but were at an historically low number." [Source]

A government shut down is looming, so I really hope that you republicans can get yourselves together soon. This is not a time for dysfunction among members of the same political party.

Finally, the leader of the NRA is at it again. Wayne LaPierre is calling for armed guards and more guns after another mass shooting in America. That's kind of like calling for an open bar at an alcoholic anonymous meeting.

Of course we know that what the NRA leader is calling for does not work.

Read what Mark Follman has to stay with his excellent article on the subject.

"In the wake of the unthinkable massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, pro-gun ideologues are once again calling for ordinary citizens to arm themselves as a solution to mass shootings. If only the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School had possessed a M-4 assault rifle she could've stopped the killer, they say. This latest twist on a long-running argument isn't just absurd on its face; there is no evidence to support it. As I reported recently in our in-depth investigation, not one of 62 mass shootings in the United States over the last 30 years has been stopped this way. More broadly, attempts by armed civilians to intervene in shooting rampages are rare—and are successful even more rarely. (Two people who tried it in recent years were gravely wounded or killed.) And law enforcement overwhelmingly hates the idea of armed citizens getting involved.

Those pesky facts haven't stopped the "arm America more!" crowd from pressing the argument with alleged examples of successful armed interventions. The problem is, the few examples they keep using—in which they depict plain old folks acting heroically and with definitive results—fall apart under scrutiny. Here are five cases commonly cited and why they don't work: [Read more here]

Follman goes on to outline incident after incident where what the NRA is suggesting did not work and where it actually had disastrous effect on the situation.

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,"

Wrong Wayne, the only thing that can stop "a bad guy with a gun" is silencing a bad organization which supports his right to own a gun.

What a mental image of a principal with an assault rifle on their desk!

I guess teachers will want to carry a gun on their waistbands, or in a desk drawer?

Talk about the wild, wild west! :)

"Aaron Alexis has now allegedly joined a long line of American mass murderers by using his AR-15"

no ar-15 was used. you often repeat liberal media falsehoods?

why haven't you corrected your post?

"This latest twist on a long-running argument isn't just absurd on its face; there is no evidence to support it."

just like the guns laws democrats are pushing for. none would have stopped any of these mass shootings from happening.

mean while, dems continue to cut mental health funding- and make it harder for familes with loved ones who have mental health/behavior issues to get the help they need.

"Those Islamic terrorist in Africa shot up a mall for political reasons,"

did you mean to say "Those Islamic terrorist in Africa shot up a mall for religious reasons,"?

cred fields. it is all about credibility.

must be hard calling the water for the left these days.

That is a poor simile, Mr Field. There would be not one AA there to take a drink. Your ignorance is astonishing.

Conservatives live in bizarro world. This morning at the hotel waiting for the airport shuttle some doofus was watching faux and friends and they actually were looking for "racial dog whistles" while B was talking to the CBC. Really? Was he going to activate his army of secret mooslims to kill whitey? I swear white paranoia is a trip.

Ted Cruz is a smart politician, one of the best politicians I have ever seen.

mauser98k, I often wonder where Al and Jesse Jackson are re: shooting of 107 yr man. But I wonder even more that FN remains silent about Al and Jesse. Clearly they exploit Blacks to line their pockets and to get notoriety.

PilotX, "I swear white paranoia is a trip."

And black paranoia is NOT a trip? Blacks like you are always tripping about Whites as shown in your comment about white paranoia. You are a very sick dude.

Mark my words, when the government shuts down, Obama will surrender. Obama and the Dems just don't have the stamina or the will to stand up to the Republicans.

Obamacare is over.

Emmanuel Goldstein said...

Ted Cruz is a true limited government, libertarian conservative who believes that government should operate within the bounds of the Constitution,

That's why liberal establishment Republicans like Rove and McCain hate him, and why the liberal democrat-media complex fears him.

The controllers of the Narrative have singled him out for destruction. That is how you can know he the man who can save the Republic.

Nick Digger said...

The second amendment to the Constitution in its entirety:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Any talk of "infringing" on this right will require a Constitutional amendment. Until then, STFU.

There's been another mass shooting by a crazy person, and liberals still refuse to consider institutionalizing the dangerous mentally ill.

The people who knew Aaron Alexis knew there was something seriously wrong with him. The reason Alexis couldn't be institutionalized is because the left has officially certified the mentally ill as "victims," and once you're a victim, all that matters is that you not be "stigmatized."

But here's the problem: Coddling the mentally ill isn't even helping the mentally ill. Ask the sisters of crazy homeless woman "Billie Boggs" how grateful they were to the ACLU for keeping Boggs living on the streets of New York City. Ask the parents of Aaron Alexis, James Holmes (Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooter), Jared Loughner (Tucson, Ariz., mall shooter) or Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech shooter) how happy they are that their sons weren't institutionalized.

Tellingly, throughout the last three decades, the overall homicide rate has been in free fall, thanks to Republican crime policies, from 10 per 100,000 in 1980 to 4 per 100,00 today. (You might even call them "common sense" crime policies.) But the number of mass shootings has skyrocketed from 4 per year, between 1900 and 1970, to 29 per year since then.

Something seems to have gone horribly wrong right around 1970. What could it be? Was it the introduction of bell-bottoms?

That date happens to correlate precisely with when the country began throwing the mentally ill out of institutions in 1969. Your memory of there not being as many mass murders a few decades ago is correct. Your memory of there not being as many homeless people a few decades ago is also correct.

@Ann O,

Everyone knows that reTHUGlicans everywhere, like former Mich Gov. John Engler, closed and defunded state mental institutions and threw the mentally ill out on the street. So, these mass killings involving the cerifiably mentally ill are indeed reTHUGlican chickens come home to roost. The savage, nativist, subhuman GOP (Greed Over People) Party, will of course resort to lying and, thus, spewing a revisionist take to attempt to obscure the truth.

Anonymous said...

You of the reTHUGlican minion horde are truly psychopathic (See Also Dr. Bobby E. Wright's "The Psychopathic Racial Personality") with your m.o., too. You all, then, engage in nationwide (read: conspiratorial) whisper campaigns wherein you paint a measure (that you wanna kill) with a Blackface (the Blair Education Bill [1880], the New Deal ['30s-'40s], Food Stamps/SNAP, Mental Healthcare, ACA,etc) and then set out to kill it with a relentless, rabid unatural tenacity. Is there any wonder why social scientists are beginning to look towards a biological explanation for such ferile behavior.

Ann, straw man anyone? What liberal do you know that doesn't want to help the mentally ill? The ACA aka Obamacare gives funds to assist mental illness and guess who wants to shut down the government to defund it? Methinks conservatives are mentally ill. Ha!

Dr. Janis Orlowski of the Washington Hospital that received the wounded from the Navy Yard shooting spoke on this at one of her conferences to update the conditions of the patients.

She stated that more mental health facilities were needed. That there was not enough attention being given to this situation.

The problem of mental health is OVERWHELMING, at least here it is anyway, but I daresay in the states also.

Too many Aaron Alexis et al., falling through the cracks!

There are mentally ill people living in the streets, without any kind of care.

Family members don't have anywhere to turn to for help with their loved ones. Truly heartbreaking.

For everybody concerned!!!

Liberalism is a mental disorder said...

Liberals don't mind spending money on mental illness - hell, most of them are mentally ill themselves. They just won't allow institutionalization of the sickest, probably because they fear someone will lock them up some day.

The right of Aaron Alexis to roam at will outweighs the right of everyone else not to get shot.

Better to blame the tool he used. Nothing scares a liberal more than the idea of personal responsibility.

PilotX said...

"those in colorado, massachusetts and california who have cut state mental health budgets for the last 10+ years."

And what exactly were the circumstances behind these cuts? Were Republicans holding something else hostage? Details are important sometimes.

"those in the aclu who have made it harder for families to treat their love ones."

How so? What were the other alternatives offered? I know conservatives don't really care to much about facts, context, details, science, ect so I suspect there is more to this than just posting "The ACLU hates crazy people". I know this passes as truth in conservative circles but we all don't watch Fox for our news.

PilotX said...

"The right of Aaron Alexis to roam at will outweighs the right of everyone else not to get shot."

Yep, protect the right of anyone to buy a gin must be protected at all times so the conservative solution is to lock up anyone who appears slightly off. Let's not stop them from buying a gun but lock em up and throw away the key.
Conservatives stopped mentally evolving at about 10 because all of their ideas seem right out of 4th grade.

As a matter of fact, right now I was in the kitchen doing dishes, and I got really, really sad.

I'm thinking that as much as I don't like exposing my friends business, but I'm going to do it. It's important!

I have a very close friend who's son is out in the streets right now because of mental illness, and there is nowhere to turn to for help for him.

Personally, I think he has bipolar disorder because he has very lucid and productive periods and can be brilliant.

They tried paying for psychiatric help but the cost here is prohibitive and his parents simply could no longer afford it. Even with our help that we gave, it was not enough, especially after my own sickness and chemo bills.

So he does what they all do and occasionally self medicates with drugs,(at least we think he does) and he struggles, because as I said he has very calm and lucid and productive periods.

This is a heartbreaking situation that they have to live with, as do all who have a family member in this condition and worse conditions.

I think if I were to say what this country, the island and the mainland needs most right now,it would be mental health care.

A hospital that you could take these patients to when they go into a crisis period. Have them admitted, helped, stabilized and then released.

We used to have one such unit here at the local area hospital and it was a God send.

All of the patients that came to the ER in crisis (that's when the disease worsens because the meds become ineffective or environment stressors etc) were admitted to this Mental Health unit, treated and stabilized.

Now they enter the ER and stay there wandering, screaming, gesticulating, crying. Getting worse, or they have to be restrained. Also upsetting all the other sick patients and children! :(

The ER doctors dope them up as much as possible, but usually they are resistant to ER drugs because they need special psychotropics! Then they are released back to the families in the same crisis condition :(((( Sad!

Here on the island we need a hospital/clinic at every point, the western side, the eastern, the north and south and one in the center of the island. Because many families just don't have the resources/mobility to travel too far.

This can be as simple as rehabilitating and staffing one of the floors in any of the existing medical hospitals. the way it used to be and it was highly effective!

But then in the nineties they were eliminated! :(((((

Mr. President, we need them now! More than anything else! :(

I believe Cruz is an example that you don't actually have to be an intelligent person to attend prestigious schools. Other aspects of an individual--race, money, a particular essay, cronyism, etc--can get you in.

If he were intelligent, then he would realize that Presidential aspirations require playing to the nation, not pandering to a minority.

Mitt Romney alienated voters and he isn't even a tenth as gung-ho partisan as Cruz.

So while this might be getting him some name recognition, he's going to fall into the fold with guys like Santorum.
