Open Thread Wednesday.

MORE DISCLAIMERSIt's hump day y'all, and so the floor is yours.

A couple of questions:

Do you think that Newt went over the line with Megyn Kelly? And, if he did, do you think it's part of a bigger picture with conservative men and sex?

What do you think of the fact that Barack Obama is the smallest government spender among presidents since Eisenhower?

The US is going to be democratic for the next 25 years at least after Clinton wins!!!

That's just what the Newter does. The real question is who'll draw the short straw and have to take him on one of the Sunday shows and re-burnish his cred among the pig people (those being the customer base for the grifty/swaggy bullshit he makes his living off of hawking to them) back into the profit zone... My guess is that it'll be the Chunky Toad of Press the Meat.

No one cares about Newt or Kelly - they're shills for the establishment. Everyone knows that now. The fact that you retards believe the evening corporate news just shows how out of touch you really are.

Govt. spending? Depends on whose numbers you use. It IS interesting to note that after eight years of Zero this country is closer to exploding than at any time since Vietnam.

Doug - put the butt plug in and go watch some cuck porn.

Shitstain - GO RAID THE FRIDGE, FATTY!

P.S. - "The US is going to be democratic for the next 25 years ..."

What the hell does that even mean? Mob rule? Rule by the hordes of dumb, entitled brown people that are flooding into this country due to Zero and Hillary's policies?

Conservative men have a problem with womens' sexuality. The Newt crowd are throwbacks. They don't trust women to be able to make their own decisions concerning their bodies.

Newt came on Megyn Kelly's show to shill for Trump. So I'm glad you troglodytes are finally admitting that Trump IS the establishment. Better late than never.

Next, maybe you can work on accepting the reality that you live in a multicultural 21st-century nation where it's mandatory to get along with people who don't look like you. Baby steps.

I assume the claim that Obama didn't increase spending is talking about new, elective spending, which he wasn't able to do much of, because he faced a hostile Congress for most of his administration. They are probably not talking about the automatic spending increases that occurred as a result of the giant recession we experienced at the start of his presidency.

Republicans have complained that Obama expanded the national debt because he's an irresponsible lefty who throws money around on nonsense. This narrative relies on GOP voters being too dumb to understand that giant recessions automatically expand the debt. In recessions, tax revenues go down because businesses are failing and people are losing their jobs, while welfare-type programs have to pay out more for all the people that are suddenly in need. There was no realistic way to avoid the expansion of the debt in the teeth of a recession second only in severity to that of the 1930s.

This fairytale about Obama and the debt is part and parcel of their effort to convince people our nation is in some kind of dreadful financial danger (the "we're bankrupting our children" lie) and the only way to avert disaster is by cutting social programs conservatives reflexively hate.

The NY Times said Newt "accused Megyn Kelly and Fox News of covering the allegations too aggressively and ignoring the issue of Hillary Clinton’s speeches." They should have specified the speeches were to banks and Wall Street. They could have added "highly paid". The paper has even published complaint letters from their own readers about how they have to watch Fox News to find out what the Times isn't telling them. Newt's complaints should have been directed at the corporate media in general. For most of the segment they were. He even told her that Fox News was part of the establishment media. The short clip in the link is misleeding. It isn't in context with the conversation as a whole.

How many people have heard what Trump has said about cleaning up Washington, term limits and bans on becoming lobbyists, and such? The speech Newt mentioned was when Hillary told bankers that she wants open borders and open trade and in this hemisphere. What do think that would do to the job market and pay scale here? It would do just what the corporations that sponsor and own the media want. She has told her elite sponsors other private positions, like she supports the TPP, fracking, the keystone pipeline, and Wall Street insiders regulating Wall Street.

"Indiana officials raided and shut down the offices of a non-profit that registered 45,000 black voters. Republican-controlled county election boards in North Carolina voted to drastically reduce early voting, especially in neighborhoods with many students and African Americans. A Republican-appointed county clerk in Green Bay, Wisconsin refused to allow an early voting site on a college campus because “students lean more toward the Democrats.” In Virginia, the Republican Party sued to block hundreds of thousands of former felons from regaining their voting rights."

What do you think of this Field? It seems pretty obvious what's going on. I think I recall a similar event in georgia a few years ago when there was an effort to register blah folks. Here's where the Democrats need to focus their efforts. I think there were 300,000 unregistered blah folks in the south which is enough to flip some of those states. This has to scare the hell out of Republicans. I keep saying if the Dems want to control the future they need to double down on the Howard Dean strategy and pour money into registering the unregistered. I think I even read there were hundreds of thousands of unregistered blah and Latino folks in Texas and if they played their cards right they would own the WH if you got Tx's electoral college votes. The Dems are missing out bigly.

Kemp himself is a real sweetheart, too: He makes a habit of opening criminal investigations of voter registration drives, especially if they’re run by minority organizations. In 2014, he investigated a drive that registered 85,000 new voters, most of whom were minorities. He found a whopping 25 registrations with problems, and filed no charges. See? Keeping Georgia safe!

"Hancock County has really tried some wonderful stuff prior to its purges of the voter rolls: Initially, it wanted to close all but one of its 10 polling places, so blacks in rural parts of the county would have to travel to Sparta to vote. After the NAACP complained, the board closed down only one location, but then started checking registered voters’ stated addresses agains state driver’s license records. White members of the board eventually challenged registrations, and struck 53, almost all of them black. But they took a home-town approach to it all, according to the lawsuit"

And this is why I have no regrets about not voting for Gore because the Dems should be fighting for the voting rights for everyone. We talk about all of these lofty ideals about voting but when people get their rights stolen we are largely silent. Hell, the Republicans should be shouting about people losing their rights! If you are an elected representative sure you should correct any errors but then help the person register correctly in a timely manner! It's 2016, way too late to be comfortable with stripping peoples' franchise.

Took two days reading the exceptional Atlantic piece "How Post-Watergate Liberals Killed Their Populist Soul"

Not only very enlightening, but encompasses the historical gains and shortsightedness spanning the Great Depression to the Obama presidency.

Also quite ironic coming across highlight of today's open thread noting the Obama presidency spent less than previous administrations, somewhat how the Atlantic piece summarizes the influences of post Watergate era.

African Americans in Philadelphia Won't Even Consider Voting for Trump - The Atlantic

Gingrich didn't just go over the line, he was totally out of line. But, hey, in this time of eschewing political correctness, which T-Rump and his T-Rumpsters think gives them license to shed all semblance of civility and decency, anything goes, right. Rolly-polly little newt fits right in. And he absolutely embodies the bigger picture with conservative men and sex, who worship him and his foul-mouthed brother by another mother, donnie, for spewing what they think.

Faith_and_Fairness said...

Not too mention, the Trump campaign seems to be bragging about measures put in place to suppress minority voting. Major Whatever!! Is it November 9 yet?

The only way Barack Obama will be recognized for his stellar record of being the smallest government spender among presidents since Eisenhower and his many other excellent accomplishments is if Democrats win and control who writes the history books. VOTE!

Richard said...

Your link to President Obama being the smallest government spender among presidents since Eisenhower is interesting but it's four years old! Where are the figures that would make that claim accurate TODAY? What impact has Affordable Health Care Act had on government spending?

dinthebeast said...

I mailed my ballot in last night, finally.
So did you hear how Trump's ignorance is actually harming their voter suppression efforts? The DNC filed a complaint yesterday alleging that the Republicans are violating the Consent Decree they have been operating under since they lost a lawsuit over their voter intimidation tactics in the early '80s. It was set to expire next year unless they were caught doing voter intimidation again, and now Trump is calling in his stump speeches for the exact same action that the original lawsuit was lost over. If the complaint is valid, the Consent Decree stays in effect for eight more years. Not too bright, that Donald.

Forbes also printed this article: http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2012/09/03/yep-obamas-a-big-spender-just-like-his-predecessors/#5d8b2e6a3036 But speaking of spending, the White House admitted that they spent five hundred million dollars to get "moderate rebels" and only got five of them. They didn't say how many ISIL terrorists they got with our money.
