Black folks and mutts.

Like I wasn't going to blog about this story.

First, let me say congratulations to "Stump" for winning the Super Bowl of dog shows up in New Yaawk. It couldn't have happened to a nicer Sussex spaniel. Yes folks, Uno's reign as the top dog is over.

Now a few words about my friends over at PETA: (Which I think stands for people for the ethical treatment of animals.) I know that black suffering is pretty much at the bottom of things that you are concerned about, given that there are so many poor little animals out there you have to advocate for. But it is not cool to dress in KKK garb in the middle of New York city to make a point about your four legged friends. It's just not. People have been lynched, burned, and hung by that white christian militia, and you trivialize their memory and their suffering with your poor choice of a costume for your protest.

But I told you Negroes where you stand on the food chain here in A-merry-ca. Do you really think that there could be a PETOBF (That would be people for the ethical treatment of black folks) protesting outside NFL and NBA games because they think the league is exploiting young black bucks for profit and entertainment? I don't! PETA is mad at AKC (All these acronyms. That's the American Kennel Club) for promoting the breeding of a "master race" of pooches. See the comparison? The KKK wanted a "master race" and so did the AKC. Wow, it's so simple when you break it down. I guess pretty soon "Stump" and his friends are going to burn down all those kennels where they keep stray dogs. Folks, hide your mutts, you wouldn't want them to be burned out of their dog house. (Look mommy there is a tiny cross on the lawn. Damn it, it's those damn dogs from the AKC again)

Let me stop, this shit isn't funny. There are some really twisted folks running PETA these days. And frankly, I am glad I wasn't up in New York to witness this shit, because I might have been very unethical in my treatment of those two clowns in front of the Garden.

"Obviously it's an uncomfortable comparison," PETA spokesman Michael McGraw told the Associated Press.

"Uncomfortable"? Is that what we are calling ignorant and insensitive these days? "Uncomfortable"? Nice. But this too will pass. I guess if PETA wanted to bring attention to their cause, this was a pretty good way to do it. If you look at it that way, I guess we could say mission accomplished. Now A-merry-ca, thanks to the use of some very offensive imagery, is aware of the AKC and their quest for a "master [pooch] race".

As a black person in A-merry-ca, let me be the first to tell PETA that I am glad we could help.

Friggin Idiots. PETA has now done more damage to their cause than years of inbreeding have ever done to the dogs they profess to care so much for. Friggin Idiots!

PETA doesn't "get" what the klan robe and hat represents to millions of people.

Perhaps, PETA should educate themselves before making another dumb fuck screw-up like this again.

Sometimes I think an full blown economic depression would serve this nations. This way funding for useless organizations like these would dry up...and probably overnight.

Anyone here tried the New Chicken Parmesean at Hardee's yet?

Anonymous said...

They don't care nor did they ever. They're a white lifestyle protectionist agency and nothing more. They exploit skinny white women for profit as well. Zero credibility.

brohammas said...

Ummmm, hello!?!
Come on folks, it's PETA! They knew exactly what they were doing when they put those robes on.

They do not like people no matter the race, so who cares if they dissrespect or insult a bunch of black people, the animals -agenda- are what's important here.

Besides I'm sure they already had the robes thanks to Michael Vick.

PETA has REALLY gone off the deep end this time!
And they've gotten the wrong kind of attention.Who will take them seriously NOW???

field negro said...

brohammas, now that I think about it, it is PETA. Now I am wondering why I even blogged about this. I mean what else would you expect from that outfit?

"Perhaps, PETA should educate themselves before making another dumb fuck screw-up like this again."

Christopher, I think they did educate themselves, and they are doing what they think will get the most attention.

Adam, I actually like Hardees. But is that parm made from "master race" chickens?

Mr. Noface said...

PETA is a joke. This is just one in a long list of stunts pulled by the organization over the years. They are more about hype than help (for animals). They are to animals what Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton are to the black community (great with photo ops, but horrible on leadership or progress).

Anonymous said...

Well, you already know what will happen...a spokesperson for PETA will stand before the press and deliver a statement disclosing how inappropriate the whole charade was and how they did not authorize them to do this or how their actions does not represent those of the entire organization...

added publicity...

damage already done.

Why didn't they dress up in Nazi SS uniforms? That is the symbol of breeding a master race, more so than the Klan. Hmmmm....

Peta always gives us a perfect chance to quote the world famous "Buck Murdock" :

"Irony can be so ironic"

The funny thing is, that the folks at PETA don't even seem to get that the only reason that they survive as an organization, is because of the support they receive from a society that is based on exploiting animals in the first place.

Jeez...selective breeding of animals is a practice that wayyyyy predates written history. We've bred then for food, for work, for companionship, and for amusement.

These stupid dips would still be living in caves, or wandering around in nomadic hunter-gatherer tribes eating whatever animals, plants, or fungi that they could get their hands on, if it were not for the societal advances that we have accomplished by the selective breeding of animals.

Wow and I thought black people were supposed to be the racially oversensitive ones...did Field SAY that PETA represents white America?
Anyway, this, "sexy" as you put it commercial may get publicity, but not good publicity. If anything it would make people see just how useless PETA is.

There is sooo much wrong with that statement anyway. Don't tell me that unless you did your research. Could obama have won on the white vote alone? (I don't know, if anyone knows please tell me) I doubt it, Non-Hispanic whites are 68% of the population, and whites are 80%. So are you sure of that statement? (I'm guessing it will depend on whether hispanic whites are included in your "we")

PETA is tone deaf to inappropriate comparisons between animals and humans. The group regularly makes comparisons between the treatment of animals and the Atlantic Slave trade or the Holocaust. Some of these things they ultimately apologize for, sometimes not.

Does anyone remember a few years back they did the "Holocaust on your plate" video which juxtaposed death camp inmates with animals at a slaughterhouse?

The ironic thing is that PETA also endorses and practices euthanasia on animals.

PETA do some good work, and we should be glad that someone is advocating for animal rights... BUT someone in their organisation clearly has shit for brains when it comes to publicity stunts like this. I mean, the link between the Klan and the cause PETA are campaigning against is so tenuous, I can't imagine who would even come up with the KKK analogy, let alone think its a good idea.

field negro said...

LOL! Thanks Mrs. C. It was late when I wrote that:) I already corrected that spelling faux pas. Although, I think there might be some double entendre issues going on. If you know how my mind works you would know that it's not such a stretch.

Back in 2005 PETA toured a photographic exhibit comparing animal abuse with American slavery. The late Steve Gilliard wrote a scathing piece on his blog at the time confronting PETA on its racism:
http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/2005/08/enlightened-word-view-of-peta.html

The display toured 17 cities before it was protested. PETA discontinued the tour to "reconsider" the message, then resumed the display unchanged a month later.

So much for learning from past experience.

The "liberals" who run PETA are much like many white GAYS.

They resent black advancement and the Civil Rights movement.

They look at it like "how did the niggers got their freedom before Lance and Rover?"

Anonymous said...

See that is the problem with PETA and some of these other groups, they are tone deaf with how they deal with PEOPLE (who are animals because we are part of the animal kingdom) and how they deal with people of color. That is why they have such a hard time having a diverse membership. So thoughtless, stupid and indicative of white skin privilege (sp). It is also pretty racist because in the past people who were white supremisists did (and some still do) called blacks animals and not in the sense that I say all humans are animals, but in terms of being inferior to whites, so in their own convoluted way they are again comparing the black struggle to that of animals. Don't get me wrong, I love animals and have a cat and hope to get a dog one day too, and though I eat meat I think it is horrible how they treat cows and chickens at those agri-farms and I know animals have feelings but to treat other animals better than humans, there own kind of animals, is just wrong on so many levels. (sorry for being so long winded, love your site field, recent reader first time commenter and proud field negro- though I do lapse into house behavior at times to my shame)

What still trips me out about PETA is the time that they "joked" that Ben & Jerry's should use breast milk in lieu of cow's milk for their ice cream. PETA's president Ingrid Newkirk did an interview in TIME and said that they weren't really serious, but cow's milk should be for calves, not people.

Soooo, I guess HUMAN babies don't need their mothers' breast milk-it should be used for ice cream, huh??

I've always heard that you can tell a lot about a person by how he/she treats animals. I also think you can tell a lot about PETA supporters by how they REVERE animals over people.

I do feel like the conditions could be better for animals used for agricultuural purposes, but is it really that big of a deal?? THEY'RE ANIMALS!!! Yes, I'm a proud cat owner, and may get one dog when I buy a house with a real yard, and no, I wouldn't want anyone to harm my pet(s), but I would never put my pet(s) over say, my family. I really think some of the members of PETA would.

Like someone told me, Michael Vick never had a chance. Speaking of him, PETA actually wants him banned from the NFL until he gets a brain scan, I guess to see IF he'll do dogfighting again.

Bunch of nutty losers! I wonder how they treat their kids and family members, if they don't just isolate themselves with a bunch of pets...

Problem is, PETA's just another example of what looks like an epidemic: CodePink, Britney Spears and clones, Rush Limbaugh, most of my customers, the "Arab world", US christians who think their an oppressed minority.

It's like its a way of life.

May be the APA diagnosis is "drama queen"

I'm a vegetarian, or try to be, and halfway into the whole animal liberation thing, but PETA is f.n annoying. Paint on fur was interesting. The naked models thing was stupid. The anti-kfc thing could have been worked right, but failed. Now this. They've long lost my interest, and many vegans aren't into them anymore.

The best anti-meat propaganda was The Meatrix, and that wasn't PETA. It was simply truthful.

Black lawmaker wants paid Confederate holiday
S.C. state senator says it would help people understand South's history

updated 5:15 p.m. PT, Tues., Feb. 3, 2009
COLUMBIA, S.C. - A black state senator is pushing a bill that would require South Carolina cities and counties to give their workers a paid day off for Confederate Memorial Day or lose millions in state funds.

Democratic Sen. Robert Ford's bill won initial approval from a Senate subcommittee Tuesday. It would force county and municipal governments to follow the schedule of holidays used by the state, which gives workers 12 paid days off, including May 10 to honor Confederate war dead. Mississippi and Alabama also recognize Confederate Memorial Day.

Years ago, Ford said, he pushed a bill to make both that day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day paid holidays. He considered it an effort to help people understand the history of both the civil rights movement and the Confederacy in a state where the Orders of Secession are engraved in marble in the Statehouse lobby, portraits of Confederate generals look down on legislators in their chambers and the Confederate flag flies outside.

I have no issue with them loving pets, I do as well, but, they will save a dog before a human, which shows they really are disturbed.

Field, if it makes you feel any better, PETA has always been about the outrageous publicity stunt. You're right about their KKK stunt, but I'd advise you to laugh at them rather than take them seriously.

I was once among the targets of animal rights activists because of the something the organization I worked for did. Believe me, PETA is harmless and eccentric, and more a source of entertainment than anything else. The Animal Liberation Front, on the other hand, is involved in life-endangering violence.

Anonymous said...

In addition to racism, those assholes also have no problem employing gross misogyny to drum up publicity. The bottom line is that they ethically privilege animals over human beings, and it is thus unsurprising that they have a completely tin ear when it comes to the suffering of unprivileged groups of human beings and exhibit no empathy.

Phil4Real said...

grinder tell that to M.Vick. PETA would get stoned by the black community here in Atlanta. Even though people have moved on, we still have a bad taste for PETA. I've never seen them fight so hard for other animals or causes like they came out for Mr.Vick.

Sharon from WI said...

Field,

This is typical behavior of PETA members.

They use the imagery of the Klan to compare the AKC’s appreciation of purebred dogs; they suggest to Ben & Jerry’s ice cream that human females be enlisted instead of cows in the manufacture of their ice-cream; they liken slaughterhouses to Nazi death camps.

Clearly, they care more for animals than people.

And, in PETA’s mind, if their analogies are f-ed up in their comparison to the plight of animals to human suffering, so what?

TrueBlue said...
