Black History Month.

I wanted to blog about Black History Month so I went looking over at HuffPo (since they are reserving a section for us black folks now) and found this. Needles to say I was disappointed. More liberal guilt from a white woman named Helen Davey, ( that's not Helen in the picture) who just read "The Help" ,and as is to be expected with these sort of things; it brought back all types of childhood memories for the poor woman:

"My first best friend was Elisabeth Darity. I have an old, black and white photograph of the two of us, dated September 1943, when I was six months old. Nestled in Elisabeth's lap, I'm resting my tiny white hand on her large and comforting black one. My memories of Elisabeth begin when my older brother and sister went to school, and I felt left behind and lonely. Elisabeth was chosen to look after me, and I had no idea that I was her job -- I thought she was my friend who came to play. She was the first person who listened to me and took what I said seriously. My brother and sister, being older, would laugh at me, run away from me and call me a "crybaby." Elisabeth empowered me by pointing out that my siblings actually needed me as a third person to play most games. If they ran away from me, then I wouldn't play with them anymore. It worked! "

No Helen, Elisabeth didn't come to play. She came to work. Taking care of you was how she fed her family.

Anyway, I changed my mind about the Black History Month post. Every day is black history for me. I don't need a month that was set aside for me to reinforce A-merry-can exceptionalism. "See how we love you black folks? We even gave you your own month".

Let me start with Governor Kripy Kreme and go down from there. My man was in my city today to get an award from the very Blue Blooded Union League. The award is called....wait for it....."The Lincoln Award". Yes, the same Lincoln who freed the slaves. Maybe freeing people from their money and their jobs is the Republican version of Lincoln type values these days. That is certainly what the good Gov. has been doing in Jersey.

And speaking of the party of Lincoln; it looks like the GOP infighting has started already. Seems that former Senator Rick I should be in a Sanitarium called out Sarah:

"I have a feeling that she has some demands on her time, and a lot of them have financial benefit attached to them,"

Are you saying that it's all about the money with Sarah, Rick? Well she has a little something for you:

“I think the reports were much worse than what he really said. I think some things were really taken out of context. So I will not call him the knuckle dragging neanderthal that perhaps others would want to call him. I’ll let his wife call him that instead.”

Ouch! A "knuckle dragging neanderthal"? Now now Sarah, is that anyway for one future presidential candidate to talk about another?

O man, if they are treating each other with such contempt and derision, I shudder to think what's in store for you.

Finally, if this Negro isn't the slave catcher of the year I don't know who is. You would think that with all the problems his flock might have to deal with this pastor would find other things to occupy his time than to save white men.

Come on Rev. I am sure that the white men of A-merry-ca appreciate the effort. But take my word for it when I tell you that they will be just fine.

I hated "The Help". Living in the deep South was the first place I lived when I moved to the US, so the systemic racism still in place was a bit .... overwhelming at times. And everyone was so blase about it.

However, "The Help" struck me as exactly the type of novel that an overwrought Liberal from New York would write, who had never lived in the South. It didn't disappoint in that respect. Predictable. Tired. Cliched.
My book club loved it, though. I was the sole dissenter.

As for "Black History Month", I have always wondered why we have to separate out "Black History" -- when isn't "black history" part of the very sinew and bones of "American" history? It confuses me, much the same way academics insist on teasing out "womyn's history" as a separate issue.

The whole revisionism thing in modern history is deeply disturbing. We need to make sure our children have access to ALL of history -- including original source material -- the good, bad and the very ugly -- so they can make their own judgments and opinions.

I think "Black History Month" just lets too many people off the hook, too easily.

I saw a photo recently (sorry but I can't find the link or the name of the famous African photographer)of a black nanny holding a little white girl. The caption read something like 'I love you little girl but you will grow up to think of me the same as your mother does'. Sad

OMG Field, why did I click on that video? Please tell me that Rev. Manning is early for April Fools Day. Please.

And he looks so normal, you can't even tell how certifiable he is just by looking. That scares me the most.

Hey, leave Rev Manning alone.
If it weren't for him, I never would have known what a "Long-legged Mack Daddy" was. He's very educational.

Anony 8:28, what saddens me is how the black mammies had to take better care of the white children than they did their own. In other words, whenever some of the mammies got the chance to go home, they didn't have the time, energy, nor patience to deal with their own black children. Sad.

That was ANOTHER powerful video of Rev Manning. He has produced countless such videos regarding Obama and Blacks such as uts, PilotX and mellaneous.

As a bm I agree with everything he has said, esp his opinion about the black community.

I know Field chose this video to be funny, but we must get beyond the laughter and see the wisdom of this righteous man. I am glad he is speaking out, like he normally does.

Dear Field, why haven't you attacked this bm like you have spent so much time attacking Beck and Limbaugh? He is every bit as radical and dangerous as Fox.

How can you claim to NOT be a racist pretending to be a racism chaser? Btw, I see all of your white Field Negroes have abandoned your ass. Rev Manning is right...Whites can't trust a bm.

Anony 8:46, I was waiting for you to say something like that :). You have got to admit that he has gone too far with the "poor white man" part of it, I mean really. He's practically comparing his imaginative "castration" of white men today with the actual enslaved and oppressed black people of yesterday. Doesn't that alarm you?

Yeah, a lot of black children got whipped a lot because the mammies were so angry from taking care of those white kids all day. It is also true that a lot of those white kids learned to treat mammy in condescending ways like their parents did.

Let's face it. NOTHING GOOD comes out of slavery or a Jim Crow society. It is a terrible thing which requires a denial of a great Sin against humanity.

Both the perpetrators and the victims LOSE their true humanity and connection to God. That is horrendous KARMA that God only knows will take a long long time to cleanse minds and hearts.

Ya think?

Ok, he's right about hairdo Sharpton, OOW baby daddy cheating Jackson, and the black community. I'll give him that much.

And it seems he's coming from a Christian angle in which he thinks white men are oppressed by not being able to worship God in America as compared to other worshipers. Yet, he doesn't seem to see how his words can be twisted and used to promote/encourage further racism by the wrong set of people. Sigh. Maybe others will have a better take on this.

To tell you the truth, I was ROFL as the video went on. Sometimes I find it hard to take him seriously. lol..On the other hand, what he says about the black community is true. But as far as his view of what's happening to the wm, he's off the chart.

He kept saying the wm was being "castrated" but kept correcting it with "neutered".lol Rev Manning always goes too far when it comes to supporting Whites.

I am surprised that the black community has remained silent about the Rev because he has attacked the black way of life, Obama, Sharpton, and JJ and others for some time.

He is the flip side of Mellaneous: he sees a lot wrong with how we Blacks are living, how we treat out bw, while Mellaneous(and uts) see nothing wrong with the way Blacks are living.

And I'm not sure how Tawana Brawley got dragged into this.

That's kinda not Steve's point. What he was pointing out is why are we atlking about one case when the other side has hundreds of cases to sift through. This goes both ways, one of our most popular racists on this site will go through a laundry list of Black disfunction while ignoring all of the same disfunction in all other ethnicities. If one brings up Tawana the most likely reason is to highlight her as a Black woman and as a Black person of course our first response is "this ain't just us". The larger point is that if this is a tit for tat game he just added the tat.

Aren't you the same one on another thread who was swooning over the fact that Republicans had only cut $30 billion from the budget saying it was at least a start.

Of course you didn't note that this years budget was over $3 trillion with a $1.5 trillion deficit.

But ideologues like you are more impressed when Republicans cut programs for poor Americans.

Why are "poor Americans" "poor"?

Why should I continue to support choices, such as individuals deciding to have an unlimited number of children, that they can't afford, out of wedlock, and which a high percentage end up in foster care?

Why should I continue to be coerced and compelled to support programs that do not assign any accountability for individual's personal choices?

Oh yeah let's have dirty air, water and soil. I guess we will still have to fund NASA because we would have to find another planet to inhabit.

The reasons that these departments haven't met their mandates is because Republicans aided and abetted by big business have brainwashed Americans like to you believe that regulations cost jobs although they like to ship jobs overseas or use illegals.

"Why are "poor Americans" "poor"?

Honey I don't know if you've been paying attention since 2008 but there are a lot of people who are very well educated who have been laid off from jobs. Many of them are in their 50's and won't be able to find jobs which pay anything close to what they were making in their last jobs.

"Why should I continue to be coerced and compelled to support programs that do not assign any accountability for individual's personal choices?

You sound foolish. The rich in this country has been systematically been dismantling the Middle Class since Reagan came to power in 1980.

If you don't see what's happening you need to wake up before it's too late.

"Pray tell, which Progressive-socialist state is a "winner" -- where all these nanny state policies/wealth redistributive schemes have proven to work splendidly for more than a generation without ever having to transition to any type of free market reforms. High productivity, a growing GDP, full employment, balanced budget, etc."

It's ironic that you would mention that but you're the typical conservative who only looks at the surface.

Let's dig deeper shall we?

Even given all of it's financial problems California is the 8th largest economy in the world. The reason California is broke is because just in 2008 it sent $20 billion more to the federal government than it received. Other blue states like Illinois, New York and New Jersey paid more to the federal government than they received in benefits.

Now a red state like Alabama received $1.63 for every dollar it sent to the federal government.

So maybe the blue states are the ones that need to seceed from the Union.

Mack Lyons said...

Pastor David Manning. I've never heard much of him or his ideology. From what I hear of him, he sounds like the kind of guy who denigrates his own people for the entertainment of conservative White America.

But I digress. I'll listen to this guy and see what he's about before coming with a conclusion here.

"The point I was making is that the Republicans are not going to make substantial cuts to the Defense budget because they receive too much money from lobbyists and it would adversely impact their constituents."

The cuts you'll see to the defense budget will be nominal, at best. There's simply too much money being thrown at politicians by defense contractors and too much vested interest within the military to make any meaningful budget cuts.

Besides, you know how most everyone loves taking the knife to welfare and education. Roads and bridges, too, in a pinch.

"Now a red state like Alabama received $1.63 for every dollar it sent to the federal government."

Yeah, Jeff Sessions and Dick Shelby both know how to whore it up for those government dollars. Probably explains why we're among the most corrupt states in the nation, with all that slush money sloshing about.

Plus, the widdle boys who like repeating the Tawana story can go back to their room with the st reagan posters and pretend to be 'striking' a blow for freedom...and that they like girls.

chritianists want the entire world to be as stoopid and as opportunity-free as they are.

Before we de-fund per 'Karen", I propose we end all faith-based subsidies. We can also cease propping up the rural and suburban lifestyles with hard-earned urban cash. Odd that a 'woman' claims that we need to end SS. Seeing as how that is what many, many working women have as their ONLY retirement. Oh, you might ask who pays for their medical care.
Since 'Karen' wants fwee market solutions..can we let her backers go under? When we remove all those pesky regulations...will we be able to freely sue those who do us damage? Or will 'tort reform' preclude our seeking redress? History of regs is that most were sought by business...as the lawsuits were valid.

Rev Wite, this may come as a surprise to you...but many cultures eat snails. I'm sure your recent ancestors partook of easily digested protein.

What's really funny is that our two resident protofemmes LAA and FP think that much of what Manning says is true but they seem to have a problem only with his style.

Self-hatred is so lame.

Well Karen sure the tit for tat game is getting old now that you ask. So why do racist posters continue to come onto Black sites and regurgitate racist crap day after day? I would love to have a site where highly intelligent Black people can discuss issues but alas it does not seem to be possible. Most people do not like to let misinformation and downright racist stereotypes sit unedited therefore you get the game. I would love to hear any suggestion you would have to solve this problem but keep in mind that unlike most conservatives we here do not see things as mutually exclusive. We can play tit for tat games and solve the world's problems.

"You sound foolish. The rich in this country has been systematically been dismantling the Middle Class since Reagan came to power in 1980.

--------------------------------------

I beg to differ.
You're the one who sounds foolish.
You seem to think that people who have some cash and are innovators are just got to idly wait around while you pick their pockets.

I'm inheriting a nice sized company that is innovative and has patents that are cutting edge technology. The company has the cash set aside for all the new equipment and upgrades for the new products and services, but hasn't spent/purchased yet.

We're still deciding where we're going to move the company to. And we have lots of people giving us incentives to move to their location and set up shop.

I'll be on a junket for a month or so to look at some of those sites when my son gets home from China -- he reads/writes/speaks fluent Mandarin-- and he'll be running the company, so his input is important -- but -- None of them are in the US.

The top winner so far is a country that has already gone through the economic pain that the USA refuses to face, and is now on the upswing. GDP is growing and healthy; their economy is strong, and they have made huge strides in reducing poverty and creating a robust middle class.

It's a country with strong European bones and great infrastructure and a world-class medical system.

Employers only deduct 10% of wages for a self-directed private retirement plan, and 7% for a self-directed private market health plan. There is no "employer matching". Employees are responsible for filing and paying their own federal and state taxes.

No employer FICA withholding, SS, medicaid, etc. No burdensome regulations, paperwork, etc.

And corporate income tax is less than 1/2 of what the US wants to grab, before state income and property taxes are payable.

I was at a little get-together in McLean about a month ago, with a large number of immigrants such as myself.

All have moved their assets and companies out of the US, or are planning to do so soon -- for the same reasons I mentioned.

That money is going .... or gone ... and isn't coming back.

Conservatively, I added up a minimum of $40 mil in small business entrepeneurship/innovation has left or is leaving. In one small get-together.

Now, what is your plan to "make them pay"?

Maybe if the rhetoric wasn't so vile, people might be interested in investing here.

I listened to Obama's hectoring to the Chamber of Commerce about what business "had to do" and laughed my behind off.

Good luck with that.

Fascinating how any outlook which doesn't parrot the failing progressive meme you've all enjoined makes one a "racist".

It's amusing, since you know nothing about me, really.

I don't have a problem with black people. I have a problem with delusional progressives of any stripe.

Field is a progressive, but he is reasonable and rational. Not everything is about race; many times it's about attitudes and factors that are more socio-economic other than race.

But at least you can comfort yourself in the belief it's all skin color.

Just a quick question Karen. With no EPA how would you suggest we as a nation monitor the environmental well being of the nation? Without the department of Ed how would we monitor the well being of our students across the nation? I hear the conservative argument that education is best left to the parents and local school boards but for one this scares me because many of those proposing this have a religious axe to grind and this is all about getting rid of that evil evolution. I might go along with that idea if the educational standards were being set by educators and experts in the field of concern, for example if were talking about Texas if a committee composed of professors from UT, Rice, Texas Southern, ect. came up with the base standards and add in a few high school teachers and industry leaders we might have something. My problem begins when Billy Joe and Lucy Joe who have a third grade understanding of science want to change the curricula because the Family Research Council or the ACLJ fill up their heads with non-sense and they feel they have the right and knowledge base to change the education for all students. But I digress and await your solutions. And just for the record, I do not dismiss good ideas just because they are from someone with a different ideology.

Uh, Karen I was not referring to you when I mentioned racist posters. You're right, I don't know you so why should I assume that just as I ask why did you assume I was referring to you?
Anyhoo you ask how do we get companies back on U.S. soil and hiring U.S. workers? It's simple, we as citizens, not the government, withhold our money until said corporation does what we want it to do. I too believe in free markets and as the largest market on the planet I think we should have a say in what we purchase and from whom. Wonder why Toyota and BMW are trumpeting the fact their vehicles are made in the good old U.S. of A? Well, they are smart enough to know that sooner or later even the dumbest among us will see that we are cutting out own throats and if we want a return to prosperity we have to do it ourselves. You're right to say Obama was laughed at but will these same corporate honchos laugh when we stand up together and say we won't buy any of your products unless you build and invest here? You want to outsource? Fine but understand we will not buy your crap. Go ahead and base your plant overseas and hope for the best because we may be slow here but we do eventually catch on. And I agree with you that the GOP should cut social services because that will bring the economic revolution we need that much sooner. If you think what is happening in Egypt is something just wait until you stop bribing Americans.

PilotX said...

"But at least you can comfort yourself in the belief it's all skin color". Ms. Karen you see this is the root of the problem as I tried to explain with the tit for tat comment. I do not see race in all matters or not even most and I would love to discuss politics, sports and economic matters without the interjection of race but the problem is that it is being injected by racist posters and trolls. As a Black man I will not let someone disrespect us without setting the record straight. The tit for tat game exists when people like yourself accuse others of being race conscious and/or myopic without seeing your own blindspots and limitations. Read some of the older posts and some of the comments by some posters that will remain nameless and see if their comments strike you as racist. So many conservative posters blame us for being sensitive and completely ignore the evidence that we may be correct. You seem no different than most conservative commenters I see on numerous blogs that blame people of color for being too sensitive and actually being the real racists while ignoring some of the most vile and racist comments. Go read some older posts and let me know if you think some of them are racist towards Black people and maybe then we can have an honest discussion. Get rid of that type of crap and we can talk politics and economics all day long with no distractions. I would actually like that.

The fact that black people are too stupid to know that Black History Month grew out of Black History Week, which was created by Carter G.Woodson, a black man, is evidence of how much we do need black hisotry month.

All black people do is whine and complain about anything and everything. Black people have now managed to be victims of Black History Month. "BM"? There's that abbreviation again. It's almost as though you're scared of typing out "Black men". It doesn't take up that much time or space to type out.

As for the discernment, Black folk have been denigrated enough by forked-tongued individuals such as yourself to know when they're geniunely concerned with Black progress and when they're being verbally stabbed in the back. Like the whole "BM" thing. Pardon if I'm reading too much into this, but here goes. The first thing that comes to mind to most people when that abbreviation is used is the word "BOWEL MOVEMENT". One has to wonder if you're covertly associating Black men with human fecal matter....

"BM", "BW"....I'm sorry. I'm not going to verbally and mentally condense Black women and men into abbreviations that take away the full impact of their humanity. That's been done too many times in the past. Yeah, yeah, I know FP and others use "WW" and "WM", too. Still, it just doesn't sit right with me at all.

The rest of the planet is 'taking it to the man' and we just let Obama cut a ridiculous tax deal so Lil Wayne and T.I. can post bail for the next two weeks. We allowed the Marlboro Tangerine become speaker of the house.

We sat silent as we let a ignorant bunch Medicare recipients in Tri-corner hats scream down single payer healthcare, and watch as they try to overturn the few good things we got out of HRC.

We let the banks off the hook. Why weren't we protesting in the streets for help in the mortgage crisis.

We continually allow the President, Congress and the military to lie and scam us into two un-winnable wars.

The sad part is that we can fix all these problems and don't need to set ourselves on fire or storm the White House (although a few foolhardy folks think that's exactly what we need to do). Unlike Egypt, our leaders aren't preventing us from voting.

When are we going to demand our leaders listen to us? When are more than corporate fat cats and flat earth morons vote?

Right now, only corporate America, the military industrial complex and the most crass, myopic and outright stupid (on both sides of the aisle, but mostly the Right) are willing to demand what they want.

The rest of us sit around and bitch.

Sorry, but thinking about what Egypt was able to do (force out a dictator) makes me sadden that in free nation, we get so little done.

If more tea baggers get into office and actually get their wish and all forms of social programs are cut then you will see the uprising you are calling for. There's a reason companies pay for advertising, it works. My bet is most Egyptians aren't hooked on tv as much as we are. It may take a while but the scales may fall from our eyes but we have a long history of cutting our own throats, for example look at the love for Walmart even though the majority of their products are made in China(full disclosure: some posters here believe most products sold at Walmart are made in America). This is one reason we should elect more tea baggers and Republicans, let's get the revolution going.

Field I feel you about Black history month. But you know it used to be a week. And it was significant because at the time there was no mention of black folks or Africans in the history books. Their/our accomplishments were completely left out of the history books and US culture for that matter.

Many black folks during those times really thought that black folks had not done anything of significance and were embarassed that they were of African descent.

That week may not seem like much now, but when Carter G Woodson launched it meant a lot. And it went a long way toward establishing black consciousness and gave us as a race the confidence to fight and eventually over turn Jim Crow.

"LAC, Americans by and large have been bought off. Sure, we're cheaper than our European sisters and brothers but one day we'll get the message. SS, food stamps and the few safety nets we have to prevent the average joe from falling into complete poverty keep the rioting at bay for now. If more tea baggers get into office and actually get their wish and all forms of social programs are cut then you will see the uprising you are calling for. There's a reason companies pay for advertising, it works."

And brother the solution lies in what the Egyptian working class is doing. WE the people know what we want given the opportunity we could and would organize a just society that would allow everyone to have their due.

And your response to Karen ( who Maria is right about) was on the mark as well.

"I do not see race in all matters or not even most and I would love to discuss politics, sports and economic matters without the interjection of race but the problem is that it is being injected by racist posters and trolls. Mellaneous,

I goes even deeper than that.

I went to a Jesuit Catholic grammar school and I'll never forget a 5th grade project from Sister Jacinta requiring us to do a report on a Saint. I asked if I could do a report on St. Martin De Porres because he was black. My aunt had given me a book on his life and I was excited about his story.

Sister looked at me and said, "Steven there were no Negro Saints."

Even after I submitted the report with illustrations, no apology or acknowledgment of wrong.

Just a snide expression and resignation.

UTS, PilotX and Anon -
I'm fully cognisant of our capitalist system and the tools the powerful use to distract us. Hell, we're using one right now (no offense, Field).

That means the money makers rule the system. It's always been that way; it's set up to function that way...Obama and Congress and the corporate world understand that, why can't you? Where have you been?

That's the point Anon, we have a history of taking on the powerful. As Mold pointed out - labor reform and the New Deal came about because folks were out in the streets, much like Egypt. The Civil Rights Act had just as much (if not more) to do with the work and sacrifice of MLK and Malcolm X than LBJ signing it into law.

It was massive groundswells that gave us many of the progressive reforms and electing competent leaders who cared more about their job than the next election we benefit from today.

Steve I feel you I have heard those stories before.

A member of my church was raised in a white Lutheran church where her pastor at the time told her that Jesus was white. And according to her he wouldn't budge on it and added that God was white as well.

Black History month seems to have served its purpose, but many of our young people are as clueless today as we were in yesteryear.

Its still true that if you don't know where you come from you're likely not to know where you are headed.

Oh and there is nothing racist inherently or otherwise in learning about and celebrating ones heritage.

Ok, no more picking on FB even though it is evil. But seriously social media was a factor in the uprisings in Tunisia and old Kemet. This will also be the undoing of alot of the conservative principles in effect here. by conservative principles I do not mean in the political sense I mean in the original definition of the word. My buddy is an economics professor and has a blog http://econprofaj.blogspot.com
and we discuss economic boycotts and their effectiveness. After listening to the owner of Jimmy Johns shops get reamed by a conservative host for wanting to move his headquarters to Indiana from Illinois because of increased taxes (he asked if he expected his former employees now jobless to buy his sandwiches). That was insight into the future. We are fed up with people who operate like Karen, educate their children in our country/state, use our police/fire and military to protect their profits and then abandon their country/state to make more profit. This comes down to what LAC suggested and it isn't too hard. We put on out FB page or whatever that we will no longer support X brand because they relocated and left people unemployed. This type of thing can go viral and no amount of advertising can stop this movement once it starts. It may seem good at first when these companies relocate but when they meet the wrath of the trillion of dollars in American spending power my bet is they will come running back to our shores. Just look at the media blitz by the Fire Fighter's union and their fight they are taking to people like Chris Christie. This ain't rocket science, whenever we get fed up enough this will change. Sign on to the future, if these fat cats take away our jobs we take away their profits. Hear that Karen?

Change never occurs without a fight or a struggle of some sort. Eventually the Obama's are not going to suffice and we average folks are going to have to take to the streets just so humanity can survive. Oh yeah the day is coming!

If Denmark Vessy had a blog like this he would have had much more success. Imagine sisters and brothers like Harriet Tubman, Nat Turner, Mariah Stewart, ect. all able to throw ideas off each other. Can't blame new revolutionaries for not living in the times of slavery or Jim Crow.

Estimates put the remaining African American population for the city of San Francisco at around 3.9 percent! I hope that is just a low-ball estimate and those numbers will be revised upward, but still, my question is how did we get to this point?

Why are we leaving this city in such droves? Why isn’t City Hall doing more to stop the mass exodus of African Americans from this city? There was “The African American Out-Migration Report” commissioned in 2009 by Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office and the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, but there has been little in the way of policies by either of the two to stem the tide. If this was taking place with any other ethnic group, a citywide state of emergency would have been declared.

Pilot X you are right about Facebook.

I think what Karen said about her company and how they were going to decide wherae to locate speaks volumes about the real values in this country.

Karen is playing by the rules of the free market. Of course she should shop her company around and find the deal that is going to be most profitable for her country.

She is correct to do this by the standards of captalist business.

However the business community tries to make the average worker believe that they and the worker are in this together, so to speak. When of course nothing could be further from the truth.

WE are not the same people. That is the ruling rich, the bankers the corporate heads, the captains of industry and the rest of the non-producing class of parasites, are not the same as the average worker or average citizen.

They wave the flag while picking our pockets!

Business is concerned about the profit motive, period. They are not concerned about country first, or God, or goodwill or any of that other nice touchy feely stuff they spew in commercials.

Bottom line is that no matter how much we want to believe it, business especially Big Business doesn't care about the average person. We are only important as consumers and workers.

But what folks like conservatives and some liberals try to do is make us believe that while business gets dollars handed to them and get to eat from the federal trough that it is poor workers many who through no fault of their own are struggling to make ends meet are the problem.

Its just a game. They try to make you look in the direction of the poor while all the while the rich and their cronies are running off with the goods.

Its a great game because the US working class continues to buy it. Its what the conservative anons and others spew on a regular basis. Its the poor who are robbing you, they say, while trying to take even more from the poor to give to the rich.

If it was all about the taxes, all businesses would have moved to low-tax areas...like Somalia or Afghanistan.
So, they are not being...exactly honest...about why they move.
If it was all taxes...NYC, Philly, and Chicago would be ghost towns. What is depopulating are the Real Mericas of Sarey Palin. Who wants to suffer in a burg that where the pay is dreck and has the area has nothing to do and the elected/appointed leader is the Mean Cow from High School whose daddy ran from Texas the moment the State passed the 'No Teacher Sex with Student Law'?

At one point or another, these ethnicities were all shat on by the so-called "WASP" (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant). These people eventually "blended in" by intermarrying with WASPs, papering over or playing down their ethnic heritage. Being the same skin tone as the WASPs helped out tremendously, too.

Soon enough, the Italian/Polish/Jewish/Slavic/German/Irish heritage ceased being a threat to WASPs and become innoculous enough that celebrating it became relatively harmless, just as long as there weren't any strong, ethnic/nationalist celebrations going on. Since the aforementioned melted into the WASP collective and became "Americans", that wasn't gonna happen on their end anyways.

On the other hand, WASPs have spent so much time and energy on keeping Negros seperate in as many social arenas as possible, that when Negro ethnic celebrations happen, the WASP shit their pants out of fears of the Negro gaining enough ethnic/nationalist fervor to start making demands. And bashing together WASP skulls.

WASPs fear Black folk celebrating their ethnic differences, yet they seem content to use those differences to exclude Blacks from as many social arenas as possible. Boggles the fucking mind.

@ LAC, I gather you are active in your community, so am I . What we do is what all activists do, compare ideas and grow the most interesting/successful. I won't go into much detail here as this is the wrong forum but in the larger context it works like this. I am a member of a social media site, I put as my status "X company is outsourcing/leaving and I will no longer buy their products" or start one of those like pages and get maybe 100 hits, you do the same, someone else on here does the same and added up we get 1,000 people to do what we suggest. Those 1,000 people know some folks. You're to young to remember but it's like the old Pert shampoo commercial "I told two friends and she told two friends and so on and so on and so on". It doesn't even have to involve a corporation it could be "buy American, check the lable" or "tuition at X school is too high". Post a youtube, you know this stuff better than an old man like me. I'm not saying Chicago will look like Cairo tomorrow but every revolution started as an idea somewhere. Populism isn't dead, just look at the Tea Party.
Mell, you are correct that Karen wants to maximize her profit by minimizing costs but capitalism is a two way street. If she wants to ignore the world
s largest market then she will do so at her own peril. For example, Walmart wants to locate stores in Chicago and New york. They can/will make huge profits but they don't want to play by those city's rules so in the end who is really being hurt? Same thing we as buyers tell corporations, you want our money you play by our rules. The way I see it it's a win win, you get access to a large market, we get good jobs and anothe source of goods.

I read the letter you posted carefully. There were some comments made by the author I found as status quo isms of racism, including all races. I also felt the writer was authentically attempting a dialogue with you, with his own purpose of understanding what your mission here is. After I read your response, I just felt disappointed that his effort, however you may frame it, was sadly shot down without true understanding of the small steps people sometimes must take to move forward. In your response to the writer, the sarcasm, blaming posture, the degrading comments you made, were not congruent to this man's honest attempt to express his frustration though willingness to add something positive to his perspective. I don't believe this writer will make much of an attempt again. He made himself vulnerable to you because he apparently believed you were the real thing, a true seeker of peace. You let him, and those of us who do seek understanding and movement to higher ground, down. You are a race baiter. What you did was to attack an honest effort, with relish, not to proove you are equal. But to make a clear statement as to your superiority. This is the very nature at the heart of racism. You acted out the basis of being racist, with a sort of malicious glee. What you have written here, what you do here, will not enlighten, inform, hold accountable or result in anything constructive or healing where racism is concerned. You don't print the obvious haters comments; you did print this man's struggle to understand, though you seemed to take pride in shaming him for his attempt. Shame on you, for your prejudice disguised as activism. Shame on you for posing as someone who cares about racism when what you are really wanting is a forum to project your flagging self-esteem onto others and then beat them up for participating. Yours is a narcissistic endeavor, carefully constructed based on your beliefs and having the ability to manipulate what people say as proof that you are right. You aren't. You hurt people just as all racists hurt people. You are a perpetrator of racism and it's continued scarring of the face of our entire world. You will fend off these comments quite succesfully, because this is what you do to hide behind your own sinister motives, to make it the issue of other people, split off your own terrible racism, refusing to allow your owning your own racial anger. I'm sorry you hate yourself, and punish others for the misery you inflict upon yourself. I'm sorry you will not print this, because it does expose you. And I don't believe you will risk that.
