"Where are the Tea Party protests about Wall Street?"

You know, I was thinking the very same thing:

"We're down to the wire here on financial reform. I can't think of a better time to put pressure on Wall Street and Washington to make sure there is adequate regulation to ensure that we never have another bailout. The AFL-CIO is about to have a protest at Wall Street on April 29th. Great, that makes sense. I'm sure the right-wing groups who are also upset about the bailouts will join them.

If you remember, the Tea Parties were originally formed to protest the bailouts. They were so mad at the Wall Street bankers who destroyed the economy and then took our hard earned money for their efforts.

So, they will take this opportunity, of course, to launch their own protest of Wall Street. They will protest the TARP money, the easy credit, the lack of regulation, the wild risk taking and the excessive bonuses paid with taxpayer money. They're really going to take the fight to them.
Just kidding. They're not going to do anything. They're going to sit out this fight on financial reform and put absolutely no pressure on Wall Street at all. Because they are tools easily manipulated by right-wing organizations funded by corporate America.

I really feel sorry for them. They're dupes. They think they are so fiercely independent when in fact they are the most easily manipulated people in the country. All that anger toward the power establishment and what happened? They were used by that same establishment to fight against health care reform and to try to protect the health insurance companies. Suckers.

Now, when it's time to fight the financial companies, where are they? Nowhere to be found. Why? Because
FreedomWorks and Americans for Prosperity didn't organize any bus rides to Wall Street. They didn't manufacture the outrage they did in protecting the health care companies. They used the Tea Party protestors for their own purposes and then left them on the side of the road, only to be picked up again when they need to protect another company or industry.

I issued a challenge back in January to the Tea Party organizers to rally against Wall Street or even against the Obama administration (Tim Geithner in particular) for being too soft on them. And what's happened since then? Nada. Zilch. Zippo.
So, I was proven right -- they're never, ever going to protest Wall Street because they are ignorant dupes being led by the nose by their corporate overlords. And they think they're so tough and independent-minded. What a farce. The whole movement is a sad joke being played on its own members." [Story]

Yep, they are kind of like certain republicans (like one in particular who frequents this site) who like to say that they are not republicans. But don't believe them, that is exactly what they are. They try to use the independent label to gain credibility with the rest of A-merry-ca. Unfortunately for them, however, they have none.

Just ask yourself this question: If George W. Bush was president of these divided states do you think there would even be a teabagger movement? If you answered yes to that question please send me your e-mail address. I would love to sell you on this idea I have and possibly get some investment dollars from you. It's called bottled air.

I agree with Val. One of the most salient arguments regarding the whole Teabagger movement that I have ever read.

I wish they would all just come out and call themselves something like NNITWHers or TNITWHMGers. You know No Nigg*rs In The White House or The Nigg*r In The White House Must Go. Then we could all be sure that the "most important political movement" in our country's history wasn't actually a bunch of porn stars!

Oh yeah, loved the topic. It's a winner!

Hi Field,
Don't you think Cenk Uygur(one of the Young Turks) should get HFN status for awhile since he offered that challenge back in January. Glad you posted this and especially with the AFL-CIO march coming up next week.

There you go Filled Negro. Stick with your forte. RACISM AND CONSERVATIVE CHASING!!!

Good job.

Here is what you fail to see regarding my core observation:

There is little difference between the tactics used by Democrats and Republicans except that there are more Blacks who are loyal to the Democrats and thus the Republicans are seen as RACISTS.

Think about it Filled Negro:

1) 2 weeks after George W Bush announces that oil drilling will be expanded in the Gulf Of Mexico an Oil Drilling Platform blows up - killing at least 11 workers and causing a big oil slick. THERE ARE NO PROTESTS AGAINST THE PRESIDENT

2) In the Earth Day celebration (scheduled for today) left-wing celebrities such as John Legend will perform at a big concern in Washington DC. Unlike a few years ago the PRESIDENT will NOT be the main theme of most protest banners at the session. Instead they plan to demand that the Democratic congress make the climate change bill as strong as possible

Filled Negro why is it that the state and city of New York waging a COUNTER PROTEST against the Anti-Capitalist Confiscators who will protest? WHEN WALL STREET TANKED the state and city lost BILLIONS in tax revenues and thus they were forced to do massive cuts of services. It seems to me that the government of the area is running a MONEY LAUNDERING OPERATION from the taxes collected.

Oh by the way - a significant portion of the money provided to the evil banks have been repaid.
Filled Negro can you imagine Obama saying to the INDIVIDUAL MORTGAGE holders who received government aid:

"I AM GOING TO DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO ENSURE THAT WE GET EVERY SINGLE PENNY THAT THE GOVERNMENT GAVE TO YOU BACK INTO THE TREASURY!!!!"

READ THIS!!!!
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-04-23/geithner-says-bailouts-will-cost-u-s-taxpayers-87-billion.html

Here is where your propaganda does harm Filled Negro. The commercial banks are REPAYING. Fannie and Fredie - the GOVERNMENT regulated entities WILL COST the Feds $117B.

WHERE HAVE THESE PROTESTS GONE:

* When The South Was A "Killing Field" For Black People - there were PROTESTS against the people who sat in the POLITICAL SEATS demanding that they protect our people. Now that Black people are STILL being killed in certain environments - those who used to protest now don't want to damage the POLITICAL CAREERS of the people they helped into power

* When our schools were not educating our children.......DITTO

* The Progressive Organized Labor USED TO Protest Against various manufacturing firms in Trenton, Camden, Cleveland, Detroit for unfair labor practices. Now that they WON political control and the companies have departed - there are fewer LABOR PRACTICES being violated because there is less LABOR in these places. The government STAYED, the EVIL CORPORATIONS LEFT.

Does anyone see a pattern here?

HOW DO YOU PROTEST FOR JOB CREATION?

Someone help me out on this one.
I need for some of you all to come with me to Haiti, Guatemala and Laos to do a protest FOR JOB CREATION and Universal Health Care

Newt Gingrich see an evolving role for the Tea Party, as the "militant wing" of the Republican Party.

He makes that observation with a certitude befitting the groups recent activity.

The dominance of the two party system almost certainly puts the Tea Party in the Republican camp, given their conservative bent, and their obvious distaste for everything Obama.

A recent poll confirms Newt's prescience regarding the group:

"The 18 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters tend to be Republican, white, male, married and older than 45."

Also, according to the same poll, these white males aren't hayseeds, poverty-stricken, or likely to be, and neither are they grade-school dropouts.

"Tea Party supporters are wealthier and more well-educated than the general public, and are no more or less afraid of falling into a lower socioeconomic class...."

Assuming the accuracy of the poll, these aren't the typical mal-contents, the usual suspects we might find protesting the size of government, or its overreaching ambitions to usurp state powers.

These aren't your "bitter" white men clinging to their "guns or religion."

We have a new breed: These are "bigoted" white men, clinging to their 401(K)'s and the religion of non-governmental interference in free-market activities.

a little history lesson is in order.

maria, at any Closing I've ever had, whether it be for a residence, or land, a LAWYER was required, to make the "deal". The "Bank" makes it's offer, and the LAWYER advises the buyer.

Why aren't you going after the legal representation in these deals gone bad, instead of the banks?

Going into such a transaction, without a lawyer present (to save a few measly bucks), is like represening yourself in a criminal trial.

"Swindle", is not the same as stupidity.

maria said...

i've bought and sold three houses and refinanced several times and never once had a personal attorney, and don't know anyone who has.

you hire a title attorney--usually a referral from the bank. they read the papers but aren't really representing YOU.

the deal is made way before closing.

they were swindled, many of them. they were given loans way out of what they could afford, with ballon payments they were unaware of. the underwriting rules were loosened or were non-existent.

the mortgage cos. also took advantage of non-english speaking people, and there have been a plethora of lawsuits to this effect.

they were all in it together--mortgage brokers, bankers, property appraisers, etc.

i can see you support the tea bagger belief that only "stupid" people got hurt. that's not the truth.

and a lot of this happened with people who borrowed against their equity, and the the property values plummeted, putting them underwater.

calling people stupid is an easy way of mischaracterizing an incredibly complex series of mistakes, failures and yes, downright fraud.

The Tea Party is a fertile opportunity for Black folks if we get in on the ground level and shape the optics, policies etc and not let the usual white liberal pundits and interests influence OUR agenda...

There is much in play with the Tea Party that Black folks can leverage and use for our Black Agenda..

Sorry but I have evolved pass the nothin that others know what is best for me or the idea that I am impotent to chnage and alter the course of life, history and events..

LACoincidental said...

Thrasher, I feel you on the typical white liberal manhandling of Black politics. Few things get more unnerved with progressive than some Mt. Holyoke trust fund tree hugger telling Black and Puerto Rican people in NYC or other east coast cities how to run things. And as a supporter of marriage equality, it erks me that rich white gay people California demanding that Black people should naturally support marriage equality when they've made no real outreach beyond, well, other rich gay white people. Sorry, but Pookie in Inglewood may have a few boyfriends in West Hollywood and be, as my mother says 'sweet as Summer Tea', but he's still a Black man without a job.

But I got to disagree with you on the Tea Party movement. Those white people who probably lynch a tanned Isreali by accident, no telling what they'd do to our black asses.

From a straight analysis of current politics, these fools aren't worried about real issues. Or more specifically, they're worried about things utterly tangential to our real problems. They're concerned is that Healthcare reform will bankrupt our GDP? As if our current overpriced nightmare of healthcare is the envy of the civilized world.

The Tea Party has shown that when the chips are down, white people blame Brown people for their problems. Arizona had an overinflated real estate market for years, much like Nevada, and it went burst. You know who's to blame? No, not the Wall Street brokers who decided to use Big momma's house to cover their gambling debts. The real reason that Arizona economy is tanking? All those Mexican house keepers and gardeners stealing those good paying jobs doing white people's chores.

The tea party and their right wing goons in public offices were directly behind this crazy ass (and utterly illegal) new law in AZ allowing the cops to stop anyone who 'looks' Mexican.

And unless you haven't been reading the papers (or just don't watch CNN or MSNBC, cause Fox ain't gonna talk about it) the Tea Party is completely owned and funded by powerful K-Street Lobbying firms and conservative think tanks. They're the Bush/Gore Florida recount rent-a-mobs gone viral. The so-called tea party leaders mount fake descent in the street by scaring ignorant white folks (and few crazies in the Black community and/or lurk on this blog ) that Obama's gonna steal your guns and make granny into Soylent Green.

And finally, these guys aren't for government reform, they're for outright terrorism and government overthrow that we normally associate with 3rd world dictatorships. Put it another way, any group that have members who openly celebrate Tim McVeigh and David Koresh as heroes are movements that Black and Brown people need to stay clear from.

If anything, we need to work with Labor unions and immigrant groups -- because the labor movement is slooowly creeping back (my notoriously union busting office just has a union vote two days ago) and with immigration there going to be more folks who look like Ricki Martin than Ricky Shrouder.

Obama being "heckled" by a "Gay Group" means that a FAR LEFT force is seeking to force him FURTHER LEFT.

I am not sure if your problem is one of inability to ANALYZE or DISHONESTY.

The leftist groups that "heckled" evil George W Bush had the desire to take his presidency down. They knew that Bush as a right-winger was not going to be swayed their way.

With OBAMA to "take his presidency down" would mean that they might sound "Republican" with their attacks upon him. (The same reason why Blacks don't want to be critical of the Progressive Establishment that control our communities despite the problems with the institutions that they control.)

They want Obama to GO LEFT FASTER.
Nah, CF, the Republicans are seen as racist because they really are racist. They speak, demonstrate it, act it, behave like racist, and claim it openly.
Let us DISTILL THE ESSENCE OF RACISM.

1) A RACIST seeks to KILL or PHYSICALLY ASSAULT Black people for revenge against disrespect, for taking justice in his own hands, for keeping us in our place

2) A RACIST seeks to confiscate instructional time from Black students so that they don't receive a quality education and develop as a people

3) A RACIST seeks to attack economic activity within the Black community by assaulting businesses there so that there is no strong economic base WITHIN the Black community

4) A RACIST makes use of disease causing agents to make Blacks unhealthy. They know that with BODY FLUID EXCHANGE - Black people will infect each other.

GRANNY - which of these RACIST ASSAULTS against Black people are in 2010 EXCLUSIVELY done by WHITE FOLKS?

Here is the proper understanding of Tea Parties. (My wife is going to kick my butt because I am supposed to be dressed and ready to go by 6:15pm)

Since the Town Squares in America within which to hold a protest march are relatively fixed - during the evil Bush years the ANTI-WAR/ANTI-TORTURE protesters took up all of the Protest Permits at city hall.

Once Obama came into office and the Anti-Bush-War Protesters stopped taking to the streets because they did not want to take down the president they favor - there were abundant PERMITS available for the Tea Party people to obtain at city hall.

The key to getting rid of the Tea Parties is to REENACT the ANTI-WAR protests. There are TWO WARS still going on RIGHT?

maria thinking is the type of underdeveloped mindset that progressive Black folks must ignore and where appropriate even condemn..

Her talking points remind me of critics who review a book or movie without seeing or reading the material..

It really is backward to access reality based upon hearsay..I know these are not the only white people who use racial slurs and have contempt for us....

There is body of thought in progressive Black circles that an obesssion with the racial pathologies of whites whether eal or not takes us away from more productive endeavors including personal growth..

There is merit to the talking point that chasing down white racism is a waste of time...

R. WIGMAIDEN, do you think the TEA PARTY PEOPLE really care about the State of this Country? well NO! these people are the seed of their Forefather's, and let me remind you of one thing, if they Hate the President, then they Hate you even more, why? well, because you are a Threat to their Future, and no, they were NOT going to be RACIST in your face, they will hold it all in, and give you the Mega beat down behind closed door's!

Last year, a group of Young Black Panther's, had to go to TEXAS, they came to stand with a Black mother, her son was Killed by two young white men, the two white men did not go to prison, but, they should have! it was a protest from the black community, and the young black panther's were on the FRONT LINE, fearless! why? well, they knew their PLACE!!!

R,WIGMAIDEN, find your PLACE! cause those TEA PARTY people, want their Country back from you and every other BLACK PERSON, that has your skin tone! you are young, but, yet, you are not Informed! you are Intelligent, but, yet, misguided by the FACADE! for the TEA PARTY MOVEMENT is a FACADE! and the black's that venture over to their side, have lost their way, for how can any Young Black Person, not recognize the Sign's of a White 2010 RACIST, when they see it? I thought you knew RIGMAIDEN! I thought you knew!but, the question is, why don't you know your Place by know WIGMAIDEN?

Again I will reiterate I will treat all those woman, male, white , black, asian, jewish, indian whatever with the same respect I recieved...I will in the same vein crush anyone who attacks and has contempt for my personhood...

Now I would like to return to the issues and stop playing in a soap opera here..

Field man why are you tripping over the "Tea Party Movement" voters?

So what if they are blowing smoke about Prez. O's policies.

According to the First Amendment don't we have a right to protest or address their elected officials?

Everyone knows that just like all of his Caucasian predecessors, Prez. O is still going to do what he thinks is best for our nation's future be it right, wrong or indifferent.

Furthermore its high time for Congressional Incumbents (Dems & Repubs) to get off their complacent butts and earn our Tax dollars don't you think?

And...if they can't take the heat, get out of public office!

So I say more power to the Tea Party Movement!

Perhaps organizations which are supposed to represent Minority citizens (i.e, NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus, etc.,) should take a hint from them and get some fire under their tails too.

One more thing Field...

Let me know when you decide to write a book on "21st Century Urban Politricks for the New Millenium".

I can hardly wait.

I now in part understand the core thread in a lot of your posts and why you take the postures you do.

Are you a Black woman? Are you like Wanda Sykes who beats down Black atheltes for having white woman and then she married a white woman and adopted white kids..She of course is a hypocrite and apparently likes white pussy as well as the Black players she beats down and uses as a foil for her jokes..

I now have some context in viewing your talking points..

Maria:

On the ride back from a group dinner downtown I listened to the radio because I put my wife's satellite radio in the trunk so some Street Pirate wouldn't break the window and steal it.

I listened to the local Hip Hop radio station.

ON AN FCC REGULATED RADIO STATION I heard the song:

"All my niggas get down like what...
All my niggas get down like what...
All my niggas get down like what...
All my niggas get down like what...Get down like what get down like what".

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!

The "racist" Tea Party member who you speak of had his headphones to his IPHONE on as Cleaver and Lewis was walking by. Silly White man, he did not realize that he shouldn't LIPSYNC "Hip Hop Voice Of The Street Pirates" Songs in PUBLIC. If these Tea Party Whites actually spent more time around Black folks they would know that they should only lipsync at HOME or in their car.

This guy who said this most VILE of words that vibrate the ear drums of the Negro had no clue of the rule: WHITE FOLKS SHOULD NOT SAY THE "N-WORD" IN PUBLIC lest selectively sensitive Blacks believe them to be a RACIST.

Do you need the call sign of the offending radio station so that you can file a report against them to the FCC? Or when DMX says this word his INFERIORITY as compared to the faceless White man who said it in DC makes it less offensive to you?

ISEEISEE who many UNSOLVED MURDER SCENES where DEAD BLACK PEOPLE GOT NO JUSTICE from the Street Pirate Murder they suffered did the NEW BLACK PANTHER PARTY drive past in order to confront these WHITE FOLKS?

Some of you all are what I call "Non-White White Supremacists". The White man's murder weapon seems to kill Black people MORE DEAD than any weapon used by a Black to kill us.

As much as you all say that "I hate Black people" it is YOU who have this hatred. In the face of wanton murder of Black folks in the areas that have "favorable political control" in your BIGOTRY you look past the failings of the machine that you put in place, claiming that THE SLAVE MASTER'S WHIP FROM THE PAST made a 20 year old Black male, born in 1990 to MURDER. For some perverted reason this HISTORY had more POWER over this young man's development than YOU - a member of the community of ADULTS who was charged with GUIDING HIM INTO HIS FULL AND EQUAL MOLDING that his GOD made him to be.

As we look forward to a "Bloody Summer of 2010" some of you have more fear of the WHITE FOLKS in the Tea Party than you have any HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT COMPETENCY to make sure that less Black people will die on our streets this summer. Why not hand out Barack Obama t-shirts with the title from Spike Lee:

"WE CAN'T KEEP DOING THIS!!! WE'VE GOT A BLACK PRESIDENT!!!"

Put this message on the front and the back. It will supplant the ineffective Christian message of "No weapon forged against thee shall prosper"

Murderous Street Pirates can't read the Old English from the King James version.

Maria:

Please understand ME!!!!!

I WILL HAND THE ENTIRE ISSUE OVER TO YOU: EVERY SINGLE WHITE PERSON WHO DARES SET FOOT UPON A TEA PARTY RALLY IS A "KLAN RACIST"!!!!

You OWN this one.

NOW - let us translate this RACISM over to THE IMPACT UPON THE BLACK COMMUNITY IN 2010?

You want to play this "tit for tat" / "I see racist WHITE PEOPLE" game.

I SEE THIS AS A DIVERSION at the macro level.

It is stunning that people who PURPORT to have their "Eye On The Prize" with regard to our community's interests - as they take more POWER over them every day are also so EASILY DISTRACTED.

As I said about my good friend Filled Negro: ONE FACELESS WHITE MAN has the POWER via some chemical substance in his epidermis to get front row placement on the "Filled Negro blog".

Maria - it is so obvious that the antics that we see among some people is 100% evidentiary proof of their INCOMPETENCE to formulate a scheme by which they leverage the EQUAL HUMAN RESOURCES of our people to be the primary propulsion system to lift us to the standard of living that we desire.

Those who presently lead know that the one thing that Black folks hate more than the "misery index" WITHIN our community is the opportunity to battle WHITE FOLKS in the name of racial dignity.

Look at the evidence Maria. Every time we come close to realizing that we are "Sick and Tired Of Being Sick and Tired" - on the verge of 'STARTING TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR LEADERSHIP'......there comes SOME Republican/Tea Party/Confederate/Police/White Man Wearing A Black Mask with the POWER to have the forces of DIVERSION to have us focus upon this "EXTERNAL THREAT".

How much longer are you going to be COMPLICIT in this FOOLISHNESS Maria?

It is clear that someone who HATES another because this other HATES THEM is still filled with HATRED and allows this spirit to possess them, REGARDLESS of how JUSTIFIED they "mentally masturbate" themselves into thinking that it is.

@ MR:

I see no vlaue in joining a party that has not joined with me. (The TP'ers).

Tea Party people do not have the face of a diverse party...therefore how will that party have a diverse POV?

They have not shown or asked that they would like blacks to join in their efforts...they are not recruiting blacks to be in their party...in actual fact they have shown that they are 99.999999% white...white white...no asians, no Indians, no Native to the Land Peoples, no openly gay people, no Africans, no Middle Easterns...nothing but white...

What would be the value in JOINING them?

Now if you had said infiltrate their white power party...I would say yes...by all means bust it up...but to join a group that has not asked for your support...where is the value in that...?

Further, if you cannot agree on the premise...you certainly will not like the consequences...notice I said cnsequences...NOT outcome...

A better idea would be to form your own party or join a party that addresses your own needs.

Peace.

Aggape:

You hurt me something terrible at times.

ME TURNING THE STATION is not the point.

This would be synonymous to you saying "Why didn't John Lewis just say 'What What?' Upon hearing the word 'My Nigga'", making the entire experience into a session that a young White teen might experience at a live concert.

Or a more simple example: Why didn't Hutcheson, Robinson, Paige, Herbert, Tucker, Jackson, Jackson, Sharpton just IGNORE the incident and not pen several columns on the word as said by the Tea Partyer.

ME TURNING AWAY is different from this (purportedly) offensive word to Black people being officially sanctioned on COMMERCIAL radio.

Excellent post Field. I think the movement is filled with suckers who are tricked into voting against their own interests.

The question you posed in the last paragraph is similar to the one I asked over at Diversity Ink. The Tea Party supporters said that the movement would still exist even if Obama wasn't president. It's too bad we can't make like Marty McFly and jump into our souped up DeLorean to see whether or not the movement would've still existed.

Stagnant? If this site was being made stagnant by the commenters here, the only voices that would be here would be yours, AB's (no offense), Frank Drackman's and the few anonymous commenters who usually pop up to dispense those wonderful pellets of "wisdom" concerning the Black community. Others such as myself would have long since left the site, if your claims of "stagnation" were true.

To be perfectly blunt, you're only pissed off because you can't enjoy flaunting your pseudo-intellectualism without being called on it by others, resulting in you fucking up by shedding your faux skin and showing your true colors. Commenters such as yourself actually do a disservice to this and other sites by engaging in the kind of two-faced hypocracy that actually KILLS sites, not cultivate them.

You have a blog. All well and good. But I bet dollars to donuts it simply does not get the same amount of traffic that the Field's does. And the comments.......well....let's just say that you won't learn nearly as much from your place as you would here. The conversations are always dynamic and thought-provoking, even if it is a bit of a bumpy ride at times.

As for telling maria to "get lost", you'd have that right and the administrative permissions to do so. If this were your blog. But it's not. I think the Field knows how to handle things around here, even if I don't agree with him now and again.
