"Ms.Thelma, DeNeen, and Claudia.

Tonight's post is all about my sisters.
The first black woman I have to write about is Thelma Causey. Can you imagine being 86 years old and getting shot in a neighborhood you spent a great deal of your life in by some punk who you probably knew when he was just a thought? Well that's what happened to poor Ms. Causey, but she didn't let it get her down.

"Thelma Causey walked out of the hospital Monday night, several hours after a ricocheting bullet struck her leg, without so much as a Tylenol from the doctors.

She rode home in her own car, too, because she was afraid she would get charged for another ambulance ride.

She stayed home Tuesday from her job checking in students at the West Philadelphia High School cafeteria, but she plans to go to work Wednesday "if my daughter don't raise too much Cain."

"Miss Thelma" is 86 years old, and being hit by a stray bullet doesn't appear to have slowed her one bit..."

Let's just go ahead and make Ms. Causey a field Negro for life. [Story]

The next sister I want to talk about is DeNeen L. Brown from the Washington Post, who wrote a provocative article a few months back about sisters dating outside of their race. I am thinking about her because I heard her (at least I think it was her) on Michael Smerconish's radio show a couple of days ago. Smerconish, of all people, was talking about the shortage of black men, and although he admitted his discomfort with the subject, I thought it was very interesting that he would go there. (BTW Mike, you are welcome for ripping off my logo. And yes, I know you did it :)

Some excerpts from Ms. Brown's article:

"So many black women are single, she says, because they are stuck in the groove of a one-track song: sitting alone, waiting for that one "good" black man to come along and sweep them off their feet.

Waiting. Talking to girlfriends. Waiting. Going out alone. Waiting. Going to work. Waiting.
Waiting for a "good" black man, with the same education level to marry them.

Waiting. Even when they know the odds are stacked against them.
Single black women with college degrees outnumber single black men with college degrees almost 3 to 1 in major urban areas such as Washington, according to a 2008 population survey by the U.S. Census Bureau. Given those numbers, any economist would advise them to start looking elsewhere.

It's Econ 101 for the single, educated black woman.

"Black women are in market failure," says writer Karyn Langhorne Folan. "The solution is to find a new market for your commodity. And in this case, we are the commodity and the new market is men of other races..." [Article]

I sense a movie in there somewhere. But this is a complex issue. Clearly most sisters want to date within their race, but either the pool is too small or there are some unrealistic expectations out there. I suspect it might be a bit of both. (Some are even blaming it on a plethora of jump offs) When I was doing the dating scene (A long long long time ago, waaaay before Mrs. Field..) it didn't seem to be as bad as it is now. I hear this lament from my single female friends all the time. But then, I hear brothers crying a river, too.

Hey, is there an "E-Harmony" for black folks?

And finally, I want to talk about this sister.....wait, you mean that isn't a sister? Yeah I thought her "do" looked kind of fishy.

" Claudia Schiffer has been accused of racial insensitivity after appearing on a magazine cover made up as a black woman.

The 39-year-old supermodel wore dark foundation and an afro wig in the shots taken by celebrated fashion designer and photographer Karl LagerfeldRead more:

But Shevelle Rhule, fashion editor at black lifestyle magazine Pride, said the images of Miss Schiffer were tasteless.

She said: 'It shows poor taste and it's offensive.
'There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines. This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models.

'I don't believe they deliberately set out to offend, they obviously see it as being arty and feel that they are pushing boundaries.

'But clearly no thought has been given to the history behind what they have done and the comparisons it draws with minstrel shows.'"

I feel you Shevelle, models gotta eat too.

Great discussion as usual!!!

And Maria, why must you bring me into crap with MR of all people? I mean dam, I'm highly insulted!!! I thought we had moved on, you called me names, then I called you ethnic slurs, which as I recall, Miss Thang AKA MR jumped to your defense about.

And for the record, I STILL don't consider Italians "white", LOL!!!

I don't think the issue with you is that BW here think you're looking for a BM. I think the issue is that if you were, you probably wouldn't have a problem finding one.

But then again, "finding" a BM has never been my "problem", either, LOL!!!!

i didn't start ANYTHING with MR. she went after me.

Maria, "i guess i can't win, as they say. and i guess you'd win if i never posted here again, which would seem to be your goal for me."

Maria, don't let insecure bw run you away. Those who accuse you of looking for a bm are angry at themselves because they are unable to attract, or keep, a bm. So they are projecting and blaming their anger on you.

Actually, they are racists who fear Whites. I am really surprised at RM. I never would have suspected her to be the type. She must be going through some tough social times. Please forgive her.

FN only posted this because of the blunders he made with the previous threads. His loyal readers abandoned him, you know who they are. Notice he popped this thread out his ass to see if they would show up, and presto, they did.

Field, the 86-year old lady was around during the Jim Crow days. She is tough and knows what she has to do. She knows the health landscape as well as the racial landscape better than you could ever imagine. BTW, if she had read your past posts on Israel, she would politely decline your 'Field Negro' award.

If you would take time to stop jigging like some lawn jockey in front of racist Whites in Israel, you might someday live up to the name of your blog.

Amen. Like Field, they love to chase imagined racism and discuss the tired problems of bw finding bm. That's all these unfortunate desperate self-pitying socialite bw think about is BM! It's really sad.

Anon. you seem to be a "loyal reader" as well. Or do you just go from blog to blog opining about their content?

But you are welcome. Hey, I am here for you. Here it is a Friday night and I realize that you could be on a date with Palm-ela right about now, but instead, you are here, reading my blog.

Now that's love.

Maria, I never accused you of wanting to be with a Black man at all. Get it straight. I just said that your self labeling seemed inconsistent. I actually didn't mean to offend you at all and am sorry you took offense. I was not clearly expressing myself and for that I do apologize.

Actually I said that a lot of interracial relationships are over analyzed because in the end, people need companionship and some take who they can get; nothing wrong with that.

As I said the labeling of you as a 'white' person is something that you've brought up. I know that other bloggers insulted you by calling you the names of pasta and that wasn't right but like I said your position is puzzling to me. That is all.

As to the anonymous commenter, thanks for your support. Sometimes I do blow off steam and other times my cracks at humor do not come off well.

Just peeping in but now gotta get my boy:)

There you go with that chumming stuff that so many of our folks blindly feed on. I never knew so many Blacks were so gullible until I came to FN.

Speaking of gullible followers, where is the great CF? I like the name he gave me. #125

Friday night is for single young folks, not for married old folks like you and me. That's why we are blogging...nothing else to do before falling asleep. I find that your blog is a great sleeping pill.

Anyway, I do enjoy your blog even though you are full of crap when it comes to some posts like Israel.

I assume you know that Israel is planning on another blockade on the second flotilla headed to the GAZA? I can't wait to read your post on this next Israeli catastrophe.

You had better give CF a "heads up" so that he can help parry some of the criticisms like he did for you before. He's good.

#125, you know what's great about Palm-ela? She doesn't care if you are married or not. ;)

Yes, I see another boat is on it's way, let's see if they stop for inspections at Ashdod this time.

RM--

i have it straight. i repeated what you did accuse me off and you haven't backed off those claims.

i still believe your REAL issue with me is simply that i am here and that i am not black. this bothers you. you just won't admit it but keep coming up with new things -- now i'm "inconsistent" and i "self-label (?) so your stated issue with me is never clear.

and you did accuse me of "claiming" to be white and being proud of it. you still haven't explained what you mean by that. or proved that i said that.

hard to believe your broadside was provoked by my brief, benign comment about dating.

Mahndisa S. Rigmaiden said...

Sorry you feel that way Maria. You misunderstood me about the dating comment and my other one as well, along with most of what I usually say anyway. You want to keep this going, but I'll let it go. It isn't worth it to perpetuate this negativity. You keep posting whatever you wish; it's a free country.

maria said...

i didn't misunderstand anything, you started it...you kept it going. i'm also done....you can find a new target if you want...good luck.

AB is right. Many black women on TV and commercials have the "lizard look." I mean I haven't seen so many black women with blue, green, hazel eyes in my life. It's like yt is making his own black avatars.

As far as that other country is concerned, I believe we all should be vigilant. Every single senator and congressman is paid by that other country. All of them (even the revered Black Caucus) will tell you that the other country has a right to defend its border even to the point of WW3. You know what they will tell American citizens? No, no, keep your borders open...Drug cartels, murderers, sex offenders, gang crime up, sex trafficking? No, no keep the borders open. Oh, they don't need ID we're fighting the war on terrorism... YT at his most devilish! Wake up y'all!
