Anita speaks, and two days in Washington.

I can't wait to see the new Anita Hill documentary. It seems like only yesterday Justice Tom was crying about a "high tech lynching" and begging those senators sitting in judgment to just give him a chance.

I hope that Justice Tom realizes that if the country treated sexual harassment in 1991 like they do now, he would not have been be sitting in the highest court in the land.

I can hope, but I am sure that it's all lost on him. My man probably chooses to block it out because the thought of it no doubt makes him very uncomfortable.

"The documentary is told from Hill’s point of view. It does not tell Thomas’ version of events.

"Anita" will be released in theaters this fall. For updates on the film, visit www.facebook.com/anitahillmovie."

Good. I don't need to hear another thing Justice Tom has to say.

Speaking of high court, I heard from a well respected journalist down in D.C.   that Judge Reggie Walton is no doubt the man when it comes to the Fisa (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance) court.

Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I met the good Judge a time or two, and I think he is good people.  I remember sitting with him in a bar (yes a bar) in D.C. after the Scooter Libby trial and telling him what a good job he did. I won't say what else we talked about, (it wasn't politics) but he is one of the last people on earth I would expect to preside over such a court. As you can tell, I am not a fan of this particular process. That said I am sure that down in Alabama Billy Bob's head is exploding knowing that a brotha is presiding over this very secretive powerful court in Washington.

Speaking of Washington, I was down there with the MMTC folks and as usual they brought the goods. I was fortunate enough to host a round table interview with David Honig, the founder of MMTC (Shout out to the MMTC crew who as usual showed a brotha love.), and my man has a wealth of knowledge about civil rights, the telecommunications industry, and the various laws that affect minorities within the industry.

The beautiful thing about events like this is that you meet people from all over the country who are doing wonderful things as entrepreneurs and activists ,and it gives you hope for your community and your country.

More on Mr. 9-9-9 on 11-11-11

Today is Veterans Day, and every one of you reading this should take a minute or two to think about the men and women who have served this country.

The field has mad respect for all of them.

The field doesn't have any respect for Herman Cain. I don't know what really went on between him and those women, but his flip and cavalier attitude about this entire scandal (even using it to raise money) has been disgusting to watch.

He is like a character from a seventies black exploitation film. (I keep seeing him in that big hat that he likes to wear) All that's missing is the Courvoisier and a velvet covered love seat.

And now he is cracking jokes about Anita Hill:

"Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain — facing allegations of sexual harassment — is defending a joke he made about Anita Hill.

Cain said Friday he was approached at a recent event by a supporter who said Hill was trying to contact him.

“And my response was ‘Is she going to endorse me?’” Cain said in an interview Friday on WGDJ-AM Albany, N.Y.

“He said it in a humorous way. I gave back a humorous response. It was in no way intended to be an insult toward Anita Hill or anybody else,” Cain said." [Source]

Herman seems to like to joke a lot. I guess that's why conservatives love him so much. There is nothing like a black man who likes to joke jig and laugh to keep some A-merry-cans entertained. There is one in every crowd. Sorry Herman, being president is no laughing matter. These are  serious f*&^%*g times!

I am not laughing with your simple behind, and I am pretty sure that most A-merry-cans echo that sentiment. Still, there are a lot of things you do that makes me want to laugh at you. Your 9-9-9 plan comes to mind. And the fact that you didn't realize that China has nuclear capabilities when in fact they have had it for over forty years. That one had me in stitches.

Meanwhile, two of the so called serious candidates in the republican primary were in New Hampshire demonstrating to the rest of us how they would lead our country.

"Republican presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum participated in the Granite State Patriot’s Constitutional Conversation Thursday night, where the two were not short on criticism of President Obama’s interpretation of the constitution.

“What’s the biggest constitutional failing of the Obama administration?” the moderator asked Santorum. The crowd laughed as Santorum scratched his head for a moment with a perplexed look.

“This is going to be a much longer debate now,” Gingrich said.
“
Gingrich paused and said, “Not understanding which country he’s president of.”
The crowd erupted with applause and gave the only standing ovation of the night to Gingrich’s comment. Santorum followed up by saying “Obamacare.”....

..The discussion then turned to the role of religion in the constitution in relation to a civic society. Gingrich asked Santorum asked what steps he would take to create a virtuous society.

“I was in a church in Iowa and I walked into a conclave of pastors. The pastor was up there preaching revival, and in many respects that’s true, American needs a revival of the principles that made America the greatest country in the history of the world,” Santorum said." [Source]

"Preaching revivial"? A revival of what? Jobs? No. Decent health care? No. A better educational system? No. Better environmental protections? No. "The principles that made America the greatest country in the history of the world". Oh, well if you put it that way; let us all pray.

"STAND BY YOUR MAN"

I just got off the phone with Taye Diggs and Terrence Howard. I needed some pointers for this post.

Anywhoo, let's talk about Clarence Thomas, shall we? Seems his lovely wife has some unfinished business with our girl, Anita Hill:

"I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband," the voicemail said in part, according to NBC News. "So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did."

I wonder what would lead Virginia to do this? Girlfriend, it has been 19 years; let it go! Maybe being in the tea party movement has led to some kind of epiphany, and she wants to fully embrace her spiritual side. Maybe Clarence is talking about Anita in his sleep and Ginny just can't take it anymore. Who knows?

Husbands , can you imagine this s*&t? Your significant other, out of the blue, decides to give some woman you were involved with 19 years ago a call? That is so not cool.

“I initially thought it was a prank,” Hill told ABC News. “And if it was, I thought the authorities should know about it.”

No Mrs. Hill, it was no prank. Girlfriend was deadly serious.

“I did place a call to Ms. Hill at her office extending an olive branch to her after all these years, in hopes that we could ultimately get past what happened so long ago. That offer still stands, I would be very happy to meet and talk with her if she would be willing to do the same. Certainly no offense was ever intended.”

Don't do it Anita. Don't meet with her. And, if you do go, you better not go alone. You can't trust those tea party folks.

Finally, from the you can't make this stuff up department. What do you think is pissing off wingnuts about Obama these days? If you guessed his handling of the economy or the war in Afghanistan, you would be wrong. What has them seeing red now is his O-ness leaving the words "our creator" out of a couple of his speeches ,while referring to the Declaration Of Independence. My god! How will the republic survive?

O man, you have got to start embracing your spiritual side. But, when you do, please don't send the secret service to harass any of Michelle's exes. That wouldn't be too cool.

Your Grandfather wouldn't know you.

I have had a few regrets in life. One of them was supporting Clarence Thomas during his bitter confirmation hearings back in the early nineties. I was still in Law School then, and although I knew his views on things like abortion was right of center, and he was selected by a republican president, I still thought it was nice that a second person of color was about to join the supremes.

I even believed Thomas and his "high- tech lynching" bullshit line. A line that he used to hoodwink us black folks into supporting him, and scaring the rest of the country away from talking about his lack of qualifications and intellect.

For the record, I believe Anita Hill now. I can just see him (Thomas) with that Coke can talking about pubic hair and making pornographic references. It's a fact that three of her colleagues backed her story in sworn depositions, and from where I sit, three is a sufficient crowd when it comes to this issue. Thomas says it was powerful interests groups that were out to stop him at all costs. And, according to him, they used the "age old blunt instrument of accusing a black man of sexual misconduct" to try and bring him down. Yeah right. Amazing how Clarence played the race card when it suited him, but now that he has what he wants, the race card is no longer relevant in A-merry-ca.

I am writing all this about my favorite uncle tonight, because his new book, "My Grandfather's Son", hits the book shelves tomorrow. (I hope Chris has a review because I won't be buying it) In it, he will talk about his childhood living in poverty with his mother and brother in a one bedroom apartment with no running water. And he will talk about his transformation from a George McGovern supporter and protesting college student, to a right wing Reagan appointee and Bush loving lap dog for the right.

So Anita, sorry it took so long, but I owe you an apology. Wherever you are today, I want to say sorry for not believing you about what a creep this guy is. You were right about Clarence Thomas, and our country should have believed you and not him. If we had, I honestly believe that we would have all been better off today.

My favorite uncle will get a million dollar signing bonus for his book. Wouldn't it be nice if he took his million dollars, his fat government pension, and just retired to Idaho or Montana some damn place? I am sure he would get lots of love in both of those places. But you and I know that won't happen. The republicans still have too much for him to do, there is still work to be done around the house, and no one is better at working in the house than Clarence.
