Breakfast with "the blacks".

Image result for trump black history breakfast imagesHerr trump's handlers told him that it would be important to do something for "the blacks" today--- it being the start of Black History Month and all--- so there he was posing with every black person he could find in his White House. Not to mention their family members, the White House help- staff, and any other black person he could find within earshot. (It must have been a long search.) He  called it a "little breakfast", because God forbid anyone gets the impression that he is trying to do anything serious with black folks.

Of course it all went about as bad as you would have expected it to.

Herr trump, as usual, found a way to make the entire occasion about him,  by calling out CNN for spreading fake news.

He had one of his Negroes who was always on CNN defending him, and he gave him a nice head pat and compliment about being the kind of Negro that he likes. ("What's the matter boss, we sick?")

Ok, those weren't his exact words, but you get the picture.  He might as well have said it that way. Donald has a way of praising his kind of Negro when the occasion calls for it. "Look at my African American over here."

Anyway, Paris Dennard must have been feeling on top of the House today when massa trump singled him out for praise because he stood up for him to those evil doers over at CNN.

"Trump went around the table thanking many of his African-American supporters, including GOP strategist and CNN contributor Paris Dennard. “Paris has done an amazing job in a very hostile CNN community. He’s all by himself, seven people and Paris. I’ll take Paris over the seven,” he joked.
“But I don’t watch CNN so I don’t get to see you as much,” he added. “I don’t like watching fake news.”'
Good old Paris.
So if he doesn't watch CNN, how did he know the particulars of those shows that his buddy Paris was on? The man is such a liar.
"Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who's done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I noticed," Trump said. "Harriett Tubman, Rosa Parks and millions more black Americans that made America what it is today. Big impact. I'm proud to honor this heritage and will be honoring it more and more."
And everyone of them would be turning over in their graves right now if they knew that after everything that they had to fight for, America still saw it fit to elect you president.

"Political dummies"?

Image result for blacks political imagesIt's caucus night in Iowa, as well as the first day of Black History Month. This makes for an interesting confluence of the day's news events.

I really don't care who wins in Iowa, because, contrary to what the national news people will have you believe, whoever wins Iowa will not necessarily become our next president.

Anyway, speaking of politics, I have been thinking about something today after seeing Crystal Wright and her masters at FOX VIEWS denigrate Black History Month ,by having an entire program highlighting "dumb" black people staying on the democratic plantation to their economic and social detriment. Calling black people "political dummies" might make for a nice sound bite for your simple-minded base, but is it true?

Consider this for a  minute; if the republican policies are so great, why are so many of their supporters poor working class blue collar white people? Why aren't they swimming in money like the puppet masters who pull all their strings in Washington? If, as Crystal Wrights suggests, black folks all of a sudden start voting for republicans in droves, what will make it any different for us? Why will our community all of a sudden become prosperous when the people who have been voting republican for years have not?

These are rhetorical questions, because I know the answer: It won't make a difference. And the people pulling the strings at the top know this. They know that the are causing poor and lower middle class white people to vote against their own best interest , and they are doing it by making black and brown people the bogeymen who will take away everything they hold dear.

Besides, I suspect that if blacks were to start voting republican in droves, the makeup of the republican party would change overnight. A lot of those republicans (particularly in the South) would start becoming democrats all of a sudden. The democratic party would start looking like it did in the fifties.

"Blacks have shown a slavish support for the Democrat party for over 50 years,” Wright replied. “Part of me wonders if the Republican party should even bother asking for the black vote because black Americans seem to like being political dummies.”

Crystal, not to be crass, but I would love to see your financial assets. Because I suspect that at the end of the day, the "dummy" might just be you.

Black History Month cuisine.

soul foodI have a suggestion for White folks: Please do not wade into the Black History Month waters in the future. I mean I know that you folks mean well, but the following story is not the way you want to show your knowledge of black culture.

"A Black History Month cafeteria special of watermelon, fried chicken and cornbread proposed at an all-girls Catholic school has sparked outrage among community members who are denouncing the menu as a celebration of black stereotypes, not history.

Carondelet High School in Concord, Calif. announced Monday it would be serving the meal that week, but reactions from students and parents prompted an assembly and explanatory letter the next day, NBC reports.

"I'd like to apologize for this announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members," principal Nancy Libby stated. "Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate (sic) racial stereotypes," adding that she met with leaders of the school’s Black Student Union, who requested the watermelon be removed from the menu.

According to the Associated Press, the items were removed from the menu, and the school will hold an assembly on diversity." [Source]

Lord have mercy, and this is in California.

Now let's be clear, I happen to like cornbread and fried chicken--- although as I get older I eat less of the stuff. But I am sure that a lot of white folks love these things as well. In fact have you ever noticed how fast fresh watermelon flies off the produce shelf in lily white neighborhoods?

Now, sadly, we get the predictable "assembly on diversity". It should be interesting. I bet KFC will be catering it.

Finally, speaking of diversity, it seems that Jerry Seinfeld found himself in some hot water when he made some comments about race and diversity lately.

Personally, I never thought that he was funny, and while the rest of America was watching Friends, I was watching Living Single, and Martin.

This all stems from his new web series called white "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee". Apparently folks are surprised at the lack of diversity on the program.

But why is this a surprise? This is a guy who had a sitcom based in the middle of New York, and you could see more black people on the ice in an NHL game than in his sitcom.

"People think [comedy] is the census or something, it's gotta represent the actual pie chart of America," ..... "Who cares?"

Where is Newman when you need him?
