Is Mia Love a slave?

"Emancipate yourself from mental slavery,
None but ourselves can free our mind." ~Bob Marley~

Mia Love seems to be channeling her inner Bob Marley these days.

She thinks that black people who support the democrat party are trapped in a form of mental slavery.

In her mind black folks are slaves to the party that just so happens to have a different political ideology than she does. Go figure.

“We need to remove ourselves from a different kind of slavery,” Love said in her own speech on Wednesday. “What I’m talking about is a slavery that comes from being dependent on people in power.”

This kind of rhetoric is ironic coming from a conservative . I mean who depends on people in power more than they do?

People with money, at least in America, are people with power. And in Washington it is the people with money who are crafting legislation and policy by buying off people like Mia Love and her conservative elected buddies.

I think my homie Bob was referring to sell-out Negroes who seem to have forgotten to speak for---- and advocate on behalf of  others who aren't in power. We shouldn't be "dependent" on people in power, so we shouldn't be taking orders from them.

Mia, let me hip you to something: Crafting legislation that only benefits the rich and powerful keeps them in power, and it makes you nothing more than a tool that they use to achieve their goals.

Finally, the right wing is smearing those three dead students in North Carolina, and the rest of us normal human beings are left to wonder how they lost their sense of humanity.

I don't care what their political views were, those students did not deserve to die in such a horrific manner.

If you don't believe that you are a slave to ignorance.

Some Love for the GOP, and 15 more seconds of Darren Wilson.

Image result for mia loveI would like to join Juan Williams in congratulating some newly elected African Americans who happen to be members of the grand old party.

The election of these individuals was historic in significance and should not be ignored.

I, too, like Mr. Williams,  hope that these Negroes will not be just "window dressing" and tokens who lend cover for the racists in their party.

Tim Scott has been a senator for a while, and he does not have the greatest track record, but I will give Mia Love and Will Hurd a chance to prove my suspicions wrong.

Hopefully, two years from now, I will be writing about all the positive aspects of their ascendancy to congress, and not how, like Clarence Thomas and those of his ilk, they are doing more to hurt people of color than to help them.

"Scott is positioned to become Congress’s leading advocate for reform of a broken public education system that is failing too many children. With nearly half of black students dropping out of high school, there is a desperate need for new ideas in the Senate on education.

Similarly, Love, as mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, focused on bringing more jobs to town. With black unemployment nationally over 11 percent, Love’s voice and her ideas for economic development create new opportunities for black Democrats to do business with Republicans.
Hurd’s CIA experience as an undercover officer in the Middle East brings a black man’s perspective to debates on dealing with Muslim extremists.

To be clear, it is up to Scott, Love and Hurd to be more than window dressing for a GOP with a major problem as a party defined by the anger of older, white, conservative men.
But they’ve beaten the odds so far. I’m rooting for them to do it again."

Nothing wrong with "rooting for them", Juan. Just don't be too disappointed if they drop the ball.

Remember, there are some other folks "rooting for them" as well.

Finally, the state of Missouri has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the grand jury verdict in Ferguson.

Michael Brown's family attorney says that the governor of that state is "preparing for war" and he is concerned that the governor's actions will incite what is sure to be an already angry crowd if the grand jury does not indict Officer Darren Wilson.

My money says there will be no indictment, but we will see.

And speaking of Officer Wilson, forget the Michael Brown incident for a minute, apparently this guy is just  not a very good police officer.

"The Ferguson, Missouri officer who killed an unarmed 18-year-old is featured in an online video taken by a man who said Darren Wilson unlawfully arrested him and violated his rights.

The 15-second video shows an officer alleged to be Wilson in uniform in the middle of a conversation with resident Mike Arman, who made the brief recording.

Resident Mike The video begins with Arman asking the officer his name, and Wilson replies, "If you wanna take a picture of me one more time, I'm going to lock your a-- up."
Arman replies he is not taking a picture but recording the incident, then Wilson walks several feet toward him.

Arman asks Wilson if he has the right to record the incident and Wilson replies "no" and says "come on" as the video comes to a shaky end.

The video shows only a small glimpse of the encounter but Arman writes in the description of the video posted Friday that Wilson violated his First Amendment rights, arrested him unlawfully and lied on the police report." [Source]

Mr. Arman, at least you are alive to tell your story. Consider yourself lucky.

Election roundup.

Last night was election night in the United States of the Koch Brothers, and if it was a football game being played on the dem's home field the fans would have been leaving the stadium by halftime. It was a beat down.

Republicans all over the country kicking up their boots and feeling like they are on top of the world. They now control Congress by even larger numbers and the Senate for the first time in eight years.

Mitch McConnell has declared that he will work with the president with certain limitations of course) and the president was just on television acknowledging the obvious and promising to be a good Negro and work with the GOP to get things done. (Watch it Mr. President, those people are not your friends.) I have a feeling that  as soon as they all get back to Washington it will be business as usual with them to show their base who can beat up on you more.

And speaking of the aforementioned Mr. McConnell, dude was actually in a heated race before his opponent--- another wishy washy democrat--- decided that she would run as far away from the president as possible in order to bolster her red state cred. Well how did that work out for you Ms. Grimes?

Here in Pistolvania we sent the republican governor packing. Although he (Corbett) would have lost to my mailman last night if he had decided to run. The guy was that unpopular. (When you have to Photoshop a black person for one of your campaign website you are beyond pathetic.)  That was one of the very few bright spots for democrats. To stay with my football analogy; it was just one of a few field goals when they needed a lot of touchdowns.

I would also like to take this time to congratulate Mia Love and  Tim Scott. They are two Negroes who ran as republicans and won historic races last night.  See field, the GOP folks aren't racist.
Some of the biggest racists in America had Negroes caring for their children. But I digress.

Anyway, Mia has bought in.

“This has nothing do with race. Understand that Utahans have made a statement that they’re not interested in dividing Americans based on race or gender, that they want to make sure that they are electing people who are honest and who have integrity,” Love said. “That’s really what made history here. It’s that Race, gender, had nothing to do with it, principles had everything to do with it.”

.......explained that “there are very few black residents” in Saratoga Springs and reiterated that she “wasn’t elected because of the color of my skin, I wasn’t elected because of my gender.”
“I was elected because of the solutions that I put at the table because I promised I would run a positive issues-oriented campaign and that’s what resonated,” she added". [Source]

See you in Washington, Mia.

Last night was a good night if you love the good collie weed. Oregon, Alaska, and Washington, D.C. decided to take Peter Tosh's advice. The rest of the country can't be too far behind.

It was also a good night  if you believe in workers receiving a fair wage for the work that they do. Four conservative states decided that the federal minimum wage is too low and they voted to raise their state's minimum wage higher than the one set by the federal government.

Still, these little victories mean nothing to hard core democrats out there. We are going with the football analogy again. This is like making money at the concession stand but losing the game.

"As president, I have a unique responsibility to try and make this town work," Obama, a Democrat, said at a White House news conference. "So, to everyone who voted, I want you to know that I hear you".

The town you speak of Mr. President isn't exactly a microcosm of our country. Take a look around you, all you will see in that town are robots who were bought and paid for by well- heeled groups to write legislation the way they want to.

In the United States of Koch Brothers they wouldn't have it any other way.

I bet Mia Love doesn't know the story of the "Opelousas Massacre".

In a sad development here in America, the republican poster child for their party's inclusiveness has been receiving letters that aren't so...well, loving.

Someone out there doesn't like Mia, and they are letting her know in no uncertain terms how they feel about her.

"A packet of information sent to Mayor Mia Love's office that city officials described as racist launched a police investigation Tuesday.

City Manager Mark Christensen described the contents of the thick envelope as "disturbing" and "pretty creepy stuff." He said it included a picture of Love and her husband, Jason, and a hooded Ku Klux Klan character. There also were pictures of aborted fetuses, he said.

"I couldn't tell if it was threatening or anything. It kind of shocked me, what I saw," he said.

Christensen said the city has received others mailings aimed at Love but nothing like the one that arrived Tuesday. He said he turned it over to the police department. "

Now who would do such a thing? Mia, of course, believes that an Obamaholic is not playing nice with her.

"Calling herself a "tough cookie," Love said she would do everything she can to protect herself and her family. Hicken said police might increase patrols around Love's house as they would for any resident who receives threats.
Love said she believes she's a target because she poses a problem to the policies of the Obama administration. She said the threats are meant to divert her from the issues in the race." [Source]

Sorry Mia, but you might want to check under your own tent. I know that this might come as a shock to you, but not everyone in America is buying into your color blind kumbaya view of the right.

Anyway, even though Mia's milk has been less than clean lately; I certainly hope that the culprit doing this crap is brought to justice. BTW, if it happens to be an Obamaholic or someone from the dumbocratic party, I will be the first to report it on this site.

Finally, Friday was the little known anniversary of a very serious incident which took place in Mrs. Field's home town back in the day. Those of you who are not  up on real American history might want take a little time to read up on the Opelousas Riots Massacre. It's particularly relevant now because of all this voter suppression crap going on. [Read here]

Just remember, "If you don't know your history, you are doomed to repeat it."

Women of color in a strange place.

This might be a two post night, because Mitt will be giving what is being billed as the "speech of his life" tonight, and I might have a few things to say. (I will definitely be tweeting about it.)

Anyway, I want to talk about three women of color with this post. Two of them lean right politically, and I am not too sure about the other one.

Two of them gave speeches at the republican convention last night, the other one also made news, but not in the way she wanted to.

I will talk about Condi first, because I think she has the most stature of the three. Condi stood in front of a room full of republicans last night and declared to us all what a great country America was. She said it was great because as a child of Jim Crow era Alabama, she never expected to become Secretary of State one day.

The theme of her speech was that anyone can make it in America, and that America opens her arms to all who will come if they are willing to work hard and buy into American ideals. She said it all to rousing applause and standing ovations from the the very white, very conservative crowd.

The problem is, of course, that Condi's party has been actively -- and not so secretly--- planning to suppress the vote of poor people and people of color because they believe that if those people vote they will not get the result that they like. If this sounds a lot like the poll taxes from Condi's Jim Crow days it's because it is.

Shame on Ms. Rice for invoking the civil rights movement and their struggle for equal rights in this country in such a forum. Offering sound bites so that folks ----who could give a damn about her rights as a human being-- can feel good about themselves was as disgraceful as her signing on to a war that caused thousands of young Americans and Iraqis to lose their lives.

Condi, I know that you were friends with those four little girls from Birmingham. I am sad to say that Addie, Cynthia, Carole, and Denise are crying from their graves.

The other lady of color who was front and center last night was Mia Love. (Love the name) Ms. Love is a rising star in the GOP because she is allegedly the kind of Negro that they like: Hard working, educated, speaks well....

Anyway, she too gave a rousing speech and praised the party that gave her an opportunity to be running for congress from the very lily white state of Utah.

The theme of her speech seemed to be the "American dream".

Ms. Love, of course, isn't from Utah. Her parents are Haitian, and she migrated to Utah from Connecticut.

Ms. Love represents the typical immigrant who came to America looking for a better life with her family. Her American experience is not like the American experience of the Negro born in America. She came here looking for a better life, and like most immigrants she found it. You could argue that anything would be better than the Third World existence that most immigrants left behind.

Ms. Love, in her mind, isn't burdened by America's sad history when it comes the blacks who were brought here under quite different conditions. So sadly she doesn't even view herself as one of those American blacks. When her white friends in Utah tell her that she is "different than those other blacks", she actually believes it.

I can speak to this, because I too came to America from a different country. I was brought here by my family as well. The difference is that my parents didn't come to stay. They came for an education and went back home to the country that they loved. I was taught to understand that I am no different than the Negro in America, the only difference is that my ancestors came off the boats just a little bit sooner.  Ms. Love is the type of Negro who looks down on the American born Negro, because she has failed to understand their history and where she fits into it.

“President Obama’s version of America is a divided one — pitting us against each other based on our income level, gender, and social status. His policies have failed! We are not better off than we were 4 years ago, and no rhetoric, bumper sticker, or campaign ad can change that.”

“Mr. President I am here to tell you we are not buying what you are selling in 2012.”

More rousing applause. "We are not buying what you are selling". "We"??!!

Mia is talking about Obama "dividing" us. What she fails to realize is that she is doing some dividing of her own. The type of dividing that some people just love to see.

Finally, the  third woman of color I would like to talk about is that camerawoman from CNN who had peanuts and slurs rained down on her from some of her friendly wingnut friends.

It seems like she is finally talking about the incident. Sort of.

Carroll said no one took the names of the attendees who threw peanuts at her Tuesday on the convention floor and told her, "This is what we feed animals." She alerted fellow camera operators, producers and CNN security. The head of the delegation — she was not certain of the state — told her the perpetrators must have been alternates, not delegates.

But Carroll, 34, said that as an Alabama native, she was not surprised. "This is Florida, and I'm from the Deep South," she said. "You come to places like this, you can count the black people on your hand. They see us doing things they don't think I should do."

Carroll noted of the Republican convention, "There are not that many black women there."

Ms. Carroll, Ms. Love would tell you that it's all in your head, and if you just work hard and speak properly these types of things will never happen to you.

Are we getting closer to a "post racial" America?

I must confess, I never even knew that there were black folks in North Dakota. Now I found out that some sister just won the Miss North Dakota beauty pageant. If you are an attractive 24 year old sister living in North Dakota, I am guessing that the dating pool is pretty small for you.

But this is a good thing. It shows that we are making racial progress here in A-merry-ca. And it's not just beauty Queens. There is a republican sister in Utah who just won the republican primary and will face the democratic incumbent for a congressional seat in November. With a name like Mia Love, she better be good. Girlfriend is smart because she is also a Mormon. If you want to run for elected office in Utah it probably helps to be a Mormon.

But I am not mad at her, go on and get your hustle on boboo.

I wonder if both of these sisters had one of those real black sounding names they could have accomplished what they did in their respective states?

"Those with the white-sounding names were actually downloaded 17 percent more often by job recruiters than the résumés with black-sounding names, according to ABC News. Sad (and probably dumb on the part of those doing the hiring, considering that they're passing over people with qualifications that meet their needs), but not really surprising.

Some examples from the lists of "black" names:
Imani
Ebony
Shanice
Aaliyah
Precious
Nia
Deja
Diamond
Asia
Dominique

DeShawn
DeAndre
Marquis
Darnell
Terrell
Malik
Trevon
Tyrone
Willie
Demetrius"

I don't want to tell you Negroes what to name your children, but please, for the kids sake, just remember where you live.

Finally, I see that the wife of a certain person down in Central Florida was arrested for perjury today. Shellie, you just can't lie to the court. I know that your husband is a hero to certain people here in A-merry-ca, but that courtroom is not an Internet chat room, it's the real world and there is going to be real consequences for your actions.
