Memogate. The cover-up.

This memo fiasco might finally open the eyes of the American people and expose republicans like Devin Nunes for the contemptible and loathsome human beings that they truly are.

The following article from Bill Palmer might help to break down the memogate conundrum for you.

"Donald Trump’s earlier foolish decision to rely on Devin Nunes has now forced him into a no-win choice: either release the Nunes memo and face the consequences, or don’t release it and face never-ending questions about it. By all accounts, Trump is going to release the memo. This means that after having been brought to the brink by a complete idiot like Nunes, Trump is now betting everything he has left on another idiot: Carter Page.

Yeah, that guy. The bald guy who randomly appears on MSNBC and confesses to a new crime every time. The guy who has admitted to the media that he’s associated with Russian spies in recent years. The guy who went to Russia while he was a Trump campaign adviser and met with a Russian government official, then lied about it for months, then finally admitted he was lying. Trump has bet his presidency and his life on that guy’s merits.

The Nunes memo is centered around supposed abuses by the FBI in its use of FISA warrants to surveil Carter Page. Now that Trump has decided to release the memo, his apologists in government are already trying to explain how the memo somehow exposes FBI abuses in general. Paul Ryan is floating the notion that if the FBI can spy on Page, next it’ll spy on you and me. The trouble with that logic: we’re not Carter Page.

Have you ever given documents to Russian spies? Have you traveled to Russia and met with foreign officials while you were working for a U.S. Presidential candidate? If you’ve answered yes to all of the above, then you should really be worried that the FBI might have a secret FISA surveillance warrant on you. But guess what? If you’ve done the things that Carter Page has done, there should be a surveillance warrant on you. We still don’t know if Page’s highly suspicious antics translated to actual crimes. But that’s what the warrant is for. There’s certainly probable cause.

Donald Trump is on the ropes. His presidency is failing. He’s in danger of going to prison, not only for his original crimes, but for the subsequent crimes he’s committed (and is still committing) while trying to cover up the original crimes. He’s taking desperation shots because he knows he’s about to lose. Now he’s betting everything, his presidency, his future, and even his freedom outside of a prison cell, on the notion that the average American is going to beli eve the FBI shouldn’t have had a surveillance against Carter Page. Good luck with that." [Source]

One day soon Mr. trump will throw a Hail Mary pass. And he is hoping that by releasing the [edited] republican version of how the FBI did their job, he will muddy the waters of the Mueller investigation and give him cover to fire the special prosecutor.

Where in the world is Jim?

"Jim "loves the City of Lights, he loves Paris. For years, every year during the summer, he would go to Paris. It was automatic, with his wife and his family."
Trump one day asked Jim: "How's Paris doing?"
"'Paris?" Jim replied, as relayed by Trump. "'I don't go there anymore. Paris is no longer Paris.'"

That was our president talking to a bunch of conservatives about his imaginary friend, Jim.

I am thinking about Jim today because the president is in Paris, and Jim had so many bad things to say about Paris. Heck according to him he doesn't even go there anymore.  trump sans Jim has been beating up on Paris in the past as well. So much so that the Mayor of Paris had to check him a time or two.

Anyway, it seems that the Parisians  have been good to trump on his trip so far. So if the trip goes well, will he (trump) tell Jim not to speak so ill of Paris and France anymore? I am sure it will be easy to do, because something tells me that Jim is never too far from president trump.

Parisians are so concerned about trump and his friend Jim, that one French reporter actually asked him about Jim today in his press conference with the French president. (Mr. president, if you made up the story about your friend Jim, please take note that the whole world is laughing at us.)  Of course, as is always the case,  the president ducked the question, and deflected so that he wouldn't have to talk about Jim.

Poor Jim must not be very happy with all the scrutiny that comes with being the president's friend. News outlets have been trying to find him with no luck.  Jim must be a very reclusive guy.

"Jim from Trump’s description, sounds old, settled, rich. His Paris, one imagines, spanned from Cartier to L’Ami Louis. But he didn’t ring a bell for observers of the New York–Palm Beach power scene. “I haven’t got a clue as to who Trump’s friend Jim is,” David Patrick Columbia, of New York Social Diary, said. “I know a few Juleses but no Jims who fit the bill,” the writer William Norwich said, confessing that he’d been puzzling over Jim’s identity ever since Trump name-checked him. “You really think there is an actual person?” the journalist Kati Marton asked. “Jim is akin to Mexican rapists and Swedish terrorists.”

I am not as cynical as Kati Marton.

I just hope that when Jim does show up the president will keep him away from the codes.

If only he had lived a little longer.

Image result for andre w jackson imagesIf Donald trump's old history teachers were alive they would be begging to go into witness protection right about now.

When I first heard about Donald trump's take on his hero, Andrew Jackson, and how he (Jackson) could have prevented the Civil War, I must admit that I thought that it was a fake headline from The Onion. Silly me. I forgot just how clueless and intellectually lazy the man who 40% of you decided to go out and elect as your president can be.

Here is the president's take on Andrew Jackson and the civil war:

"President Trump mused in an interview that the Civil War could have been avoided if only Andrew Jackson had been around to stop it. Jackson had been dead 16 years and long out of office when the war started in 1861.

Mr. Trump’s comments, among several he made about Jackson in an interview broadcast Monday on satellite radio, quickly drew condemnation from his critics and from historians who said they appeared to show the president profoundly misunderstanding American history.

“People don’t realize, you know, the Civil War, if you think about it, why?” he told his interviewer, Salena Zito, a host on SiriusXM’s P.O.T.U.S. channel, who spoke to Mr. Trump for an article that was published on Sunday in The Washington Examiner.

Mr. Trump has often professed admiration for the seventh president’s populism and visited his tomb in March. {Source}

Trump went on to say that his hero had a "big heart".  Really?!

Anyway, the president wanted to know why there was a Civil War. Well Donald, there is this thing called slavery, and your hero, that guy with the "big heart", actually owned slaves himself.  In fact, he built his fortune on the backs of slaves, and he hated abolitionists.  Oh, and let's just throw in for good measure, the fact that he authorized the ethnic cleansing of Native Americans by signing the Indian Removal Act into law in 1830.

Still,  I see why Donald trump is such an admirer of Andrew Jackson; they have so much in common.

Just Donald being Donald.

Related imageI know that Donald trump is new to this public service thing, and if he wasn't such a jerk I suppose I would let some of the dumb stuff that he does slide. Sadly for him, though, I cannot.

Take for instance one of the latest shockingly dumb things that he said. He actually visited a soldier to give him the Purple Heart and then told the man, "congratulations."

"I wanted to do it myself," Trump told Barrientos as he placed the Purple Heart on the soldier's lapel. “Congratulations … tremendous.” The medal is given to service members who were wounded or killed in battle. "  [Source]

This is like sending someone a smiling face emoji after offering your condolences to them for losing a loved one. Only it's worse because we are talking about our president and commander in chief honoring one of our brave soldiers.

Of course we are not hearing much about this because it's Donald trump. The bar has been set so low for this guy that even missteps such as this one are pretty much ignored.

Can you imagine if President Obama had done this? FOX VIEWS would dedicate a day or two of programming to his faux pas. Pundits would be declaring him unfit to be president and they would be demanding that he be held accountable for his insensitive and clueless actions while acting as commander in chief.

Not Donald J. trump. He is our reality television star president, and we have to view everything that he does with a grain of salt. He has become somewhat of a running national joke, and everyone gets it except his loyal group of followers and sycophants. They are the 39% of the people in the  country who view him in a favorable light. Were it not for them his historically low approval ratings would be even lower.

The thing is, there is nothing funny about being the most powerful person on earth and not having a clue about what you are doing. Leading the country now (especially in our current nuclear climate) is serious business.

Is there really a "Deep State V. Trump"?

MORE DISCLAIMERS I don't co-sign with everything that the author Paul Street said in the following article written for counterpunch, but I think that it is a must read for every serious thinker in America.

"In the 2016 presidential election cycle, two “populist” candidates running outside and against the nation’s reigning financial power centers launched remarkable insurgencies within the nation’s two dominant state-capitalist political organizations.   One of those contenders, Bernie Sanders, pushed Wall Street’s number one presidential aspirant, Hillary Clinton, much closer to possible defeat than probably he himself expected. After welcoming Sanders in as a token opponent to help Mrs. Clinton’s nomination as the Democrats’ presidential candidate seem at least partly contested, the Clinton campaign and its allies in the Democratic National Committee (DNC) had to resort to dirty tricks to make sure he didn’t steal their prize.

Sanders’ message of reducing economic inequality resonated with millions of voters.  In retrospect, this is less than surprising in a time when the top tenth of the upper U.S. One Percent owns as much as much wealth as the bottom U.S. 90 percent while half the nation’s population is either poor or near-poor (living at less than half the federal government’s notoriously inadequate poverty level).  A shocking 94 percent of the jobs created in the U.S. economy during the Obama years were part-time, contract, and/or temporary positions.

Sanders’ appeal proved potent enough to force Hillary to change her position on numerous issues, including her prior support for the arch-corporate-globalist Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). In the end, however, the Bernie revolution came up short. He lacked an established organizational base to match up with the formidable Clinton machine and its allies in the Democratic Party. He did not possess the killer instinct required to deal that machine a fatal blow (as seen in his excessive willingness to provide Mrs. Clinton cover on her email scandal).  He made critical errors with critical Black voters. And he faced persistent media bias thanks in part to his self-identification as a “democratic socialist.”

The Frankenstein “Populist” Who Won

The other “populist” major party candidate was Donald Trump.  He was richly endowed at least when it came to killer instinct regarding his opponents – or, as he likes to call them, his “enemies.” With no small help from a corporate media that gave him absurd amounts of free public exposure (helping thereby to create a Frankenstein from which that media would later recoil), Trump defeated and indeed humiliated Wall Street’s chosen Republican contenders, including first and foremost Jeb Bush.

He did this by running outside the traditional Republican Wall Street formula that Bush followed and in ways that sparked consternation in Wall Street executive suites and in other “elite” outposts of concentrated wealth and power. He denounced globalist “free trade,” NAFTA, and the TPP. He claimed to speak for working class “forgotten Americans” abandoned by big globalist corporations. He said that “free trade” had cost untold masses of  working Americans their livelihoods. He said that the American political system was “broken” by big money special interests that undermine and distort democracy (something Trump said he knew all about because of his own history as a wealthy funder of politicians). Much of the country’s infrastructure was crumbling under the reign of those interests, he noted.

Along the way, Trump’s frothing promise to deport millions of illegal immigrants and build an anti-immigrant wall on the southern U.S. border troubled business interests who rely on cheap and compliant immigrant labor.  It also threatened Republican efforts to win over more Latino voters
Trump also articulated a protectionist “America First” foreign policy and trade vision that won him enemies in U.S. imperial establishment, which is intimately tied in to the nation’s globalist financial and corporate oligarchy. Adding the bipartisan imperial “national security elite” to those he irked, Trump criticized George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton for advancing costly, jihad-spreading regime-change fiascos in Iraq and Libya. He hinted that he’d drop U.S. support for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and criticized Hillary and the foreign policy elite’s provocation of Moscow.

A Loose Cannon Bad for the National Brand

Beneath all this, Trump was something else the ruling class really doesn’t like – a loose cannon full of individualist chutzpah and bile. As Mike Lofgren noted in his important book The Deep State: The Fall of the Constitution and the Rise of a Shadow Government (2016) last summer, “His painfully visible erratic unpredictability and thirst for confrontation made him anything but the sort of team player who would give due consideration to the needs of the vested interests. Dividend drawers want a reliable caretaker to run their affairs, not an insult comedian juggling sticks of dynamite.”

And Trump threatened to ruin Brand America. It is longstanding bipartisan U.S. ruling class doctrine that the United States is the world’s great beacon and agent of democracy, human rights, justice, and freedom. American Reality has never matched the doctrine, of course, but it was especially difficult indeed to square those claims with a candidate like Trump, who openly exhibited racist, nativist, sexist, arch-authoritarian and even neo-fascist sentiments and values while openly praising torture.  “If our system of government is an oligarchy with a façade of democratic and constitutional process,” Lofgren wrote in the preface to his book’s paperback edition, “Trump would not only rip that façade away for the entire world to behold; he would take our system’s ugliest features and intensify them.”

The “dividend drawers” and the overlapping imperial elite prefer people like Obama. Beneath his carefully crafted people’s and “fresh” outsider imagery, he was in fact a well-vetted, Harvard Law-minted and establishment-vetted team player who understood very well that his job was to smoothly serve his Wall Street and Pentagon masters and keep populist and anti-war sentiments at bay while pretending to embrace them both for his own electoral advantage and for broader system-rebranding effect. The neoliberal, silver-tongued Obama was the empire’s sophisticated, fake-progressive, fake-constitutional, and multicultural new clothes.  He enjoyed and embraced the deceptive role.  He told the nation’s financial elite early on in his presidency that, as he remarked to the nation’s top 13 financial executives after he called them to the White House in the wake of the financial collapse they caused, “you guys have a public relations problem and I’m here to help.”

Trump, by contrast, threatened to remove the democratic, legal, post-racial, peaceful, and ethnically diverse, cloak in particularly glaring ways.  He harkened a crisis of legitimacy for the system’s false claims to represent noble and egalitarian ideals – something that promised to be bad for business at home and abroad.  A Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio presidency might have inflicted some of the same damage, to some degree, but not to anything like the same extent as Trump.  The Republican Party has trucked in racist, sexist, nativist, and militarist white nationalism and authoritarianism for more than half a century.  (The Bush family was no exception, to say the least).  Still, no serious Republican presidential contender in memory had gone as far as Trump in making these terrible tendencies so explicit and pronounced, with the effect enhanced by Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and 24/7 cable news.  Trump threatened to rip the last remaining shreds of civilizational legitimacy from the ever more apocalyptic and radically reactionary GOP." The cowardly candidate.

For a guy who likes to tout open carry laws, candidate trump sure gets jumpy at the thought of a gun anywhere near him.

That protester that caused trump to go scurrying backstage with his secret service detail didn't have a gun, but trump's supporters sure thought he did, and they didn't realize that the poor guy only had a protest sign until they beat the crap out of him and yelled, "Gun!"

This is the second time this campaign season that I saw coward trump running away from an imaginary threat. (Watch how the female candidate in the race reacts to the same kind of threat.) I just think that it's amazing how cowardly bullies can be when you expose them.

Of course trump was exposed as a coward a long time ago when he did everything in his power to get out of going to serve his country during the Vietnam War.  It's a past that the main stream media seems to have conveniently forgotten.

It's ironic, too, that all these militia groups have vowed to storm Washington if their guy loses. I just wonder if they realize that when the bullets start flying he will not be around to get their backs.

Finally, trump's other running mate. Jim Comey, declared tonight that there will be no more investigations into Hillary's e-mails, as most of the ones that they (the FBI) dug up from Weiner's laptop were duplicates. (That sound you hear is groans coming from camp trump.)

Yes America, the Clinton e-mails investigation is over as far as the FBI is concerned. The folks in the Clinton camp are crying foul, because they believe that this entire episode might have cost them a countless number of votes.

Personally, I disagree. I said this when this story broke, and I think that it is worth repeating:This perception of the FBI backing trump might have energized Clinton's base, and it gave her campaign a boost that she never had prior to this entire sorry episode.

George Wallace 2016.

Image result for george wallace imagesThe following editorial ---from a man I respect--- is very apropos, because it's just days before we vote for the next president of these divided states of America.

"Some people get angry when I and others compare Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to George Wallace. What they’re forgetting, or perhaps never knew if they’re too young, is that Wallace didn’t run for president in 1964, 1968, 1972, and 1976 as a segregationist, though he was one; he ran as a populist defender of blue-collar workers against elitism and an intrusive federal government.
“I am in this race,” Wallace said in a Fourth of July speech in 1964, “because I believe the American people have been pushed around long enough and that they, like you and I, are fed up with the continuing trend toward a socialist state which now subjects the individual to the dictates of an all-powerful central government.”

What’s somewhat astonishing about Trump’s seemingly unwavering appeal to the same demographic that supported Wallace is that he has none of Wallace’s common-man bona fides. Trump was born into a rich family that gave him everything he needed to succeed, including millions of dollars to establish his own real estate business. Wallace was born dirt poor into a family of farmers in Clio, Ala., where he played with black kids as a child.

The first time I was supposed to meet Wallace, I didn’t. Or rather, I wouldn’t. It was 1972. I was home from my freshman year at a college in Kansas and had a summer job in the audiology lab at Spain Rehabilitation Center in Birmingham. Wallace was brought there for therapy after being paralyzed by a gunman in an assassination attempt in May in Laurel, Md.

Wallace was also fitted with a hearing aid in the audiology lab, but I didn’t see him there. As his stay at Spain neared an end, however, someone came up with the idea of holding a reception so all the hospital workers could meet the governor personally. I wasn’t the only black employee who had to do some soul-searching about being cordial to the man who had stood in the door of the University of Alabama in a vain attempt to keep it segregated.

I didn’t have to worry about any retribution from a boss who might not like my doing anything that reflected poorly on him. But I went to the reception area anyway, mostly out of curiosity to see what Wallace looked like. I got into the long line; but with only about a dozen people between me and Wallace, I stepped out. He kept shaking hands. I walked away.

It wasn’t too many years later that I did meet Wallace, more than once, as a reporter for United Press International in the 1980s covering events where he was the speaker. I remember him cupping a hand around his deaf ear when he was asked a question he didn’t want to answer. I don’t remember shaking his hand. With a notebook and a pen in mine, I probably never did.

Despite the two men’s different backgrounds, it’s easy to see why Trump appeals to the same type of voters as Wallace. Wallace had a knack for expressing the frustrations of white, mostly working-class men who saw themselves as victims of an intrusive government that they felt was forcing them to be more open-minded about people and ideas that they didn’t like. Trump’s midnight tweets may lack the bite of a Wallace stump speech, but they achieve the same goal.

Wallace rallies, like Trump’s, often became violent when demonstrators who didn’t drink his Kool-Aid showed up. Trump followers, like Wallace’s, praise him for being politically incorrect and telling it like it is, no matter who might be offended. Wallace enjoyed the support of church people, just as the religious right has jumped aboard the Trump bandwagon based on his claim to be pro-life.

Wallace never became president. But in 1968, like Trump today, he made a lot of people nervous. As an independent, Wallace won 10 million votes, 13 percent of all those cast, and carried Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. He ran as a Democrat in 1972 and won the Maryland and Michigan primaries, but his campaigning ended the day he was shot. With Wallace confined to a wheelchair, his 1976 campaign fizzled.

Trump is going to do better than Wallace, if the polls are right, and that is disturbing to me. Trump reminds me of Wallace. But at least Wallace, speaking at the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s former church, Dexter Avenue Baptist in Montgomery, apologized in 1979 for his racist politics. “I have learned what suffering means,” he said. “In a way that was impossible, I think I can understand something of the pain. … I know I contributed to that pain, and I can only ask your forgiveness.” [More here]

I agree with you Mr. Jackson, sorry is not a word that you will ever hear from Donald trump. As a result, George Wallace might have actually been a better man ---than trump is today--- when he died.

Deplorable John.

Image result for roos oregon image     Yet another deplorable shows his true colors.

"WASHINGTON — A fanatical Donald Trump supporter, who was arrested by the FBI in Oregon this week after repeatedly threatening to kill President Barack Obama and federal agents, had multiple pipe bombs in his home, authorities alleged in court on Friday.
John Martin Roos, a 61-year-old from Oregon, has been charged with communication of a threat in interstate commerce, and additional charges are likely forthcoming. Roos first came onto the federal government’s radar after a “concerned citizen” brought Roos’ Facebook and Twitter postings to the FBI’s attention in February, according to an affidavit from Special Agent Jeffrey Gray. (Excerpts, below, from Roos’ postings contain explicit language.)
In one Jan. 31 Facebook post cited by the FBI, Roos referred to agents as “pussies” and wrote he would “snipe them with hunting rifles everywhere.” (Despite his threats to kill members of law enforcement, he also complained on Facebook earlier this month about the “liberal media ... slamming police.”) In a post in November that was also cited by the FBI, Roos spoke out against accepting refugees and threatened to kill Obama.
“Obama you goat fffing fudgepacker, the refugees are men of fighting age. Black lives matter! Sure we need someone to pick cotton and wash cars. Paris, burn diseased muslim neighborhoods to the ground and start over with human beings. Obama you are on a hit list,” he wrote in a post that appears to have been removed.
Beyond what was mentioned in the affidavit, Roos regularly posted on both Facebook and Twitter about his support for Trump and his hatred for Obama, who he called a “muslim faggot” and other derogatory terms. He indicated he wanted to kill Obama’s family and made other racist and sexist statements about Michelle Obama. He also made negative references to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, singer Beyonce, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly and reporter Michelle Fields, and said he believed that the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was killed by Obama. He praised Ann Coulter and Stacey Dash, and posted several links to posts on Breitbart.com.
He regularly posted about his support for Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate. In one post mentioned in court filings, Roos stated that he believed the establishment “is trying to steal the election” from Trump. “All hail Donald Trump, the savior of America,” he wrote on Christmas Eve. “I’ll bet he was born on Dec 25 just like Jesus.”
When two FBI special agents visited him in March, Roos allegedly acknowledged making the postings on social media, calling the threats a way he “blows off steam.” He said he didn’t intend to harm anyone, but also that he would “punch Obama in the nose” if he had the chance.
After a federal judge signed off on a search warrant, FBI agents searched Roos’ home, where he lives with a roommate. According to the affidavit they found “an AK-47 like firearm,” a rifle and shotgun, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a .45 caliber Glock hidden under a couch cushion. Four pipe bombs were found in a white bucket next to Roos’ computer workstation. Another weapon was found underneath the floor mat of his truck." [Source]
I suppose that this is the new normal. These angry white men -led by their alt-right puppet masters,  are afraid, and they are lashing out in any way that they can. trump is their savior, and he is their only hope if America is to ever be like it used to be.  I just hope that others like  John Martin Roos  will not take matters into their own hands and try to force the issue.
Poor things. You really have to feel for them. For a time, it looked like trump was going to run away this thing. He had the big mo and the wind at his back. The press was cheering him on and giving him the benefit of the doubt at every turn because they wanted a "horse race". But now, thanks to a horrible Nixonian like debate performance, and stories like this, and, this, and this, and this and....well, you get the picture. It's looking like the trump train might end up like the one that crashed into the station in Hoboken a few days ago.

Two requests.

Image result for election 2016 imageSo Labor Day is over, and the circus to elect our next president is in full swing.

The candidates crossed paths today in Ohio, and Hillary unveiled her new plane while coming out of hiding (and fundraising) from the press. trump actually attended a fair in Ohio, where he mixed and mingled with the people and got some good old fashioned white blue collar love.

So anyway, I just have a couple of requests for the candidates, and I hope that they can indulge me as soon as possible.

The first one is for Hillary:

Please hold a press conference and announce to the American people that you have turned over every e-mail correspondence that you have ever had to agencies in charge of investigating them. And tell us everything that you can remember to the best of your knowledge about said emails. Even shit that you might find embarrassing.

Personally, I don't care about you and your damn e-mails, but apparently the republican spin machine has convinced the American people that it's a thing.

The second one is for Donald:

Please release the letter from the IRS informing you of the audit of your tax returns.

Audit or no audit, you  should still release them. This will at least prove to the American people that you are in fact under an IRS audit and that you are not lying to prevent releasing your tax returns.

The narcissistic coward.

Image result for purple heart image"Something very nice just happened to me. A man came up to me and handed me his Purple Heart," Trump told supporters at a campaign event here. "I said to him, 'Is that like the real one or is that a copy?' And he said, 'That's my real Purple Heart. I have such confidence in you.

And I said, 'Man, that’s like big stuff. I always wanted to get the Purple Heart," Trump said. 'This was much easier.”'

Mr trump, if you wanted one so much you could have went off to war and earned one like so many brave men and women, but instead.....

"Back in 1968, at the age of 22, Donald J. Trump seemed the picture of health.
He stood 6 feet 2 inches with an athletic build; had played football, tennis and squash; and was taking up golf. His medical history was unblemished, aside from a routine appendectomy when he was 10.
But after he graduated from college in the spring of 1968, making him eligible to be drafted and sent to Vietnam, he received a diagnosis that would change his path: bone spurs in his heels.
The diagnosis resulted in a coveted 1-Y medical deferment that fall, exempting him from military service as the United States was undertaking huge troop deployments to Southeast Asia, inducting about 300,000 men into the military that year.
The deferment was one of five Mr. Trump received during Vietnam. The others were for education.
His experience during the era is drawing new scrutiny after the Muslim American parents of a soldier who was killed in Iraq publicly questioned whether Mr. Trump had ever sacrificed for his country. In an emotional speech at the Democratic National Convention last week, the soldier’s father, Khizr Khan, directly addressed Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, saying, “You have sacrificed nothing and no one.”
Mr. Trump’s public statements about his draft experience sometimes conflict with his Selective Service records, and he is often hazy in recalling details.
In an interview with The New York Times last month, Mr. Trump said the bone spurs had been “temporary” — a “minor” malady that had not had a meaningful impact on him. He said he had visited a doctor who provided him a letter for draft officials, who granted him the medical exemption. He could not remember the doctor’s name.
“I had a doctor that gave me a letter — a very strong letter on the heels,” Mr. Trump said in the interview."

I get really pissed off when I think of the pampered connected trump doing everything in his powers to get out of serving his country.  And now he has the audacity to question whether others are patriots because of their religion, where they were born, or how they look.

This stuff is personal to my family, because we have experienced the sting and the hurt of true sacrifice and bravery.

Mr Khan was right, trump should have given the medal back to that gentleman, and he should have told him in no uncertain terms that he does not deserve it.

Of course we know that he couldn't do that, because in his narcissistic and self-centered world, only self matters.  Everything else, including his country-- and the brave souls who gave their lives to protect it- comes second.

.
