The tax man cometh for "FredEx", and the racism- detector.

"Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's

Now comes word that former Eagle, Freddy Mitchell, (AKA "FredEx") has some tax issues , and that he could be looking at some jail time.

This continues a disturbing trend among many of you Negroes who have been blessed with a certain amount of wealth here in America. From Wesley Snipes to Ja Rule, you all have been holding back on Uncle Sam or trying to find ways to hide what was rightfully his. You all need to understand that a good accountant is just as -if not more- important than any other professional that you might employ. And if you do happen to have a good accountant, please listen to their advice; do not let greed get the better of you. (I see you Mary J.)

The tax man has been taking down us Negroes for a long time. History is full of stories of famous Negroes who have been smacked down by the tax man. Remember how he treated poor Redd Foxx? They raided his house and literally started taking everything in plain view. And then there was Joe Louis. The "Brown Bomber" never had a chance. The IRS gave him the hardest punch he ever got.

Of course none of us enjoy to paying taxes, and lord knows we pay plenty.
We aren't asked to pay as much as these celebrities, but we don't make as much money as they do, either.

We understand that it's a sacrifice we must make and cannot escape.

"Fed up with Foxx's failure to pay $755,166.21 in back taxes, IRS agents raided his three-bedroom Las Vegas home, carting off cars and furniture and nearly everything else they could cram into their trucks. "They took my necklace and the ID bracelet off my wrist and the money out of my pocket," says Foxx, 67. "I was treated like I wasn't human."

Looking forlorn amid the rejected junk scattered across his floor, Foxx, the star of the '70s hit Sanford and Son, cannot muster any of the defiant energy that once made him one of TV's highest-paid actors. "I've done nothing to deserve this," he moans, claiming that he has been paying off his tax debt with the $15,000 to $20,000 he earns each week performing at the Hacienda Hotel at the end of the Vegas Strip. Foxx speculates that the agency is after his reported $500,000 Harlem Nights fee. "They're mad about the money I made on the movie," he says."

Sorry Redd, it took you too long to learn that Caesar is no joke.

Finally, tonight my racism chase takes me to a little town called Coopertown, Tennessee. I have to give Shane Sullivan, the town's new police chief credit, but I am afraid that it might be hard for him to find even one officer who is eligible to join his force. I mean we are talking about a small town in Tennessee here.

"COOPERTOWN, Tenn. (AP) — A police chief hired to rebuild a tiny Tennessee department dismantled by scandal is using a lie-detector test to keep racists off his force.

Coopertown Police Chief Shane Sullivan took over the department in November, becoming the 11th chief in as many years. He was hired on the heels of a series of police scandals that for a few months left Coopertown with no police at all. Years before that, a mayor was voted out of office after the local prosecutor accused him of racism and running a notorious speed trap.

Law enforcement experts say Sullivan’s polygraph approach is unusual, though some departments use the devices for other purposes during the application process. Others try to root out bias in other ways. One polygraph expert warned that lie detectors can’t accurately predict racism for reasons that include people’s inability to recognize their own racism.

Sullivan said he doubts racists will even apply for the force if they know about the tests." [Source]

Chief, never underestimate the power of a racist who needs a job.

That is down right wrong to give lie detector tests to see if they are racists.

That is down right "discrimination". Field, you are a lawyer and you KNOW it's illegal to do that. In fact, that is 'reverse' discrimination. Only a black racist would support such tactics.

My God, How and Where do these people come up with these ideas? We might not be exactly in post-racial era, but we are close. But this one sets us back 100 years.

I think it's a great idea! Even though I've heard there are ways to circumvent one of those tests. But at least, it's a start.

Is FredEx the same guy who proposed to a woman by sending her a ring in the mail? As for the police chief in Tennessee, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

desertfox, "I think it's a great idea! Even though I've heard there are ways to circumvent one of those tests. But at least, it's a start."

These tests go against human decency and deprives people of jobs.

I am very surprised you would support an unlawful 'racist' tactic by the police.

Wesley Snipes should have been given the benefit of the doubt. They could have let him go, but didn't because he is a brother with a great ability to make outstanding movies.

Field, why is it they keep effing with soul brothers? Why would they imprison a brother for a simple little thing as back taxes? That is totally unfair.

It smells like Stormfront could be behind all this kind of harassment.

I think the mindset of these rich folk is that taxes are not for them.

Today I had to take a detour off the highway and wound up going through Washington Park, a small township at the east end of East St. Louis. Not the worst part of the hood, but a place where the mayor got shot (and killed) a couple of years ago.

In a parking lot on the side of the road, a small pop up shelter had been set up with the words "Free Phones" printed on it. A small group of 8-10 people was in line to get their free Obamaphones. You don't even have to go to an office or even make a call, the government comes right to your neighborhood and practically makes you take a phone.

Down at the border, the government runs ads in Spanish informing illegal immigrants that applying for food stamps and other benefits won't get in the way of their eventually becoming citizens, so they should come on in and sign up.

It's the Cloward-Piven strategy in full bloom. Meanwhile, I work 60+ hours a week, am barely keeping my head above water, and my taxes just went up. This can't go on much longer.

The current tax system is a bunch of bull. If you want to get real money, tax consumption, then you can pay off the national debt in a couple of years. After that get rid of all income taxes. For those that don't understand do some homework, it's not that difficult.

America has not changed when it comes to racism simply because man has not changed for thousands of years.

We can explore planets and outer space, develop advanced technology, but we don't know a damn thing about ourselves, the inventor.

When will we begin exploring ourselves, which will be the most fascinating adventure of all? Face and remove this ignorance and life has got to get better in America and around the world.

Then again, maybe we already know. That's why we have drones.

Dear AB, you have mentioned often Obama and NDAA. What is so bad about NDAA and WHY should Americans be concerned about NDAA?

If NDAA was so bad, I am sure the Black Blogosphere, especially Mr Field, and many black commenters would have posted about it by now.

Please enlighten everybody.

Ok Anon, I get it. And yes, I am against the NDAA simply because of what the long term ramifications are for due process in this country. Indefinate detention is not a good look without a proper trial. O was very shaky on this one.

Ironomous, Dr.Orwell stopped taking calls after Bush left office.

"These tests go against human decency"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Calling a 9 year old child "c***" in a national media outlet or slamming an 87 year old woman to the floor, among other incidents too numerous to list, is not very humane or decent either. And if you want to look at it another way, it will cost theses companies $ in lawsuits also.
Even though that's not the answer either because as we say here "el que hizo la ley, hizo la trampa" (who made the law, also made the loophole)
Perhaps this may not be the correct answer, however, I applaud chief Shane Sullivan for utilizing a polygraph examination during the screening phase of the hiring process.
@Desertflower, I concur with you that that using the polygraph is in fact a "great start."
To me, doing something always trump doing nothing. It would be the same darn thing if a love of yours was to be diagnosed with a potentially life terminal illness. Sitting at home watching Fox News or CNN isn't going to solve a damn thing. Again, you must get up off of your *ss and do something.
By the way assAnon@12:16, Chief Sullivan is a white man. Therefore, he is not a racist.
Weslie Snipes went to prison because he didn't file personal or business returns for years and persisted in giving bullshit arguments that he was a "sovereign citizen" and thus didn't have to file any tax returns at all ever.
The IRS has a list of Frivolous Arguments, which include what Snipes tried, that are immediately rejected.
If we were back in the 60's there would still be taxes but I would have went in a different direction. Miss Emma should have kicked that driver square between the legs. But that might not fit in with her singing. Just saying.....
That's because you are a petty fascist, scared of his own shadow, who sees racism in everything.
Come on, son! *insert Ed Lover voice* How laughable is that lie detector test?
When you live, are exiled, or are "'internally colonized'," according to Charmichael and Hamilton in "Black Power," within the PRISON CAPITAL OF THE WORLD (See Also MHP's piece @MSNBC.com), wherein OVER 60% of the 2.3 million incarcerated are of humans of African ancestry, how inane is a lie detector test to determine... exactly what?
As we watch, in real time, as the LETHAL MUTATION that is the Caucasian strain lose political power due to their dwindling, dying population, it would be patently absurd to think that this mutant, melanin-deficient population will NOT continue to engage in nefarious, depraved plans of action that they feel will best further their self-interest.
Field, with Legal Scholar and Civil Rights Law Giant, Dr. Derrick Bell persuasively arguing through his work, "The Permanence of Racism," what exactly is said test to reveal about this invasive subspecies of human that refuses (just like the Burmese Python in the Everglades and the Asian Carp decimating the Great Lakes) to go back where it came from?
Until mutants and the humans they subjugate understand that mutants are hardwired, biologically determined---due to their genetically recessive reality---to be racist, sexist, and xenophobic because the aforementioned triumvirate of terror constitutes warped, Nietzschean (read: group insanity) biological defense mechanisms to keep them from dying out, in their minds, even faster than nature has programmed them to die off and/or self-destruct (See Adam Lanza[Newtown], James Holmes [Aurora, Colo.], Andrew Kehoe [Bath, Michigan]), lunacy like the polygraph testing will be promulgated to rueful smirks and hearty guffaws---to be used in Tennessee, a hillbilly haven and birthplace of the clan (Pulaski, TN), no less! You can't be serious *said like John McEnroe* SMH.
Then again, perhaps Black Sage and Lady D have a point, in that some mutants do actively, daily seek to transcend their biology. Then, too, the test, based upon complaints by Hispanics/Latinos/Mexicans, may nonetheless root out those who overtly discriminate by discouraging them from applying. I do concede that there is indeed some variance and potential positives from the macro view I articulated, previously, down to the boot-on-the-ground micro view to which Black Sage and Lady D speak.
