Open thread Wednesday.

MORE DISCLAIMERSIt's open thread Wednesday, and I need your thoughts on a few things.

Should a white University of Hartford student face hate crime charges for what she did to her black roommate?

Mr. trump called this latest terrorist in New York an "animal".  Would he have given the same name to a domestic terrorist from the majority population?  ("Fine people on both sides")

Has FOX VIEWS officially jumped the shark?

Was April Ryan wrong to ask the White House if they support slavery?

Do you think that this election hacking case in Georgia is a big deal?

Tell  us whatever else is on your mind.

Georgia school Kennesaw State wiped voting machine clean. Sounds like a big deal. They have had problems reported before, if memory serves.

Room mate seemed nice, didn't she. Of course she was the real victim.

Fake Noize has run so much interference for Drumpfuck's regime they are guilty of obstructing justice just for existing.

Sinclair Broadcasting sez they aren't interested in hiring Bill Orally. Prolly means he has a lifetime contract with them.

Yes the nasty, vile, white b*tch deserves hate crime charges!

Should a white University of Hartford student face hate crime charges for what she did to her black roommate?

No. At least based on what information has been released to the public, the sole basis for a hate crime enhancement is that she called her roommate "Jamaican Barbie." Sorry, but that does not even come close to proving a racist motive.

Frankly, if you ask me, any criminal charges actually feel like a stretch. She is a bully and has engaged in rather disgusting behavior, but nothing she did was likely to result in serious injury to her roommate. The school's decision to expel her seems like sufficient punishment.

Mr. trump called this latest terrorist in New York an 'animal'. Would he have given the same name to a domestic terrorist from the majority population? ('Fine people on both sides')

He might have called him an animal. I dunno.

However, if it were a right-wing white terrorist and not a jihadi type, I do doubt he'd have said all that other stuff regarding the individual not having the right to due process, wanting to toss them in Guantanamo, etc. It's very disturbing how he is pandering to the primal bloodlust of his troglodyte followers. One gets the impression that if it were completely up to Trump, there'd be no trial, just a medieval burning at the stake in the public square.

Human rights? What are those?

Has FOX VIEWS officially jumped the shark?

Ages ago.

Oh, wait, did you mean that Fox News may have finally gone so far that its own viewers will abandon it? Because in that case, no. There is no dirty trick or slander so low that the horrible Fox viewership will not cheer for it, as long as the people being defamed are those they consider enemies.

Was April Ryan wrong to ask the White House if they support slavery?

Probably. I mean, you know the White House is not going to come back and say that, yes, in fact, they are pro-slavery.

But at this point, I really can't blame April Ryan. The White House and its spokesmen are not deserving of the most basic respect, after the contempt they've shown the press (especially Ms. Ryan) and a large segment of the American people. Sarah Sanders should, by rights, be dodging flying dog shit at her briefings.

Do you think that this election hacking case in Georgia is a big deal?

Unclear, but it does seem like most states need to shell out for some new voting machines. They all upgraded to digital ones after the debacle of the 2000 "hanging chads" election, which is 17 years ago -- a vast amount of time in tech years.

@10:11:0, the bacteria in your ass isn’t meant to be in your throat. So that nasty white hos decision to put the vic’s toothbrush in her ass could have killed the vic if she had been immunocompromized.

BTW, if your mammy put her menses in your coffee mug, would that be “rather disgusting” too? I’d think being exposed to blood borne pathogens, including those that could be fatal, is a MUCH MORE than “rather disgusting”!!!

Fox? Jump the shark?
That's a good one. That's a comparison of a cheesy episode of a sitcom that gets used as an example of the point where the hype surpasses the substance, and a billion-dollar-a-year propaganda operation that has been operating for twenty years as the second wave (after Rush Limbaugh and his cohort on hate radio) of a multibillion dollar effort to exploit the destruction of the fairness doctrine and create a constituency of reprogrammable Pig People who are addicted to the lies they serve and reliably vote for the Republicans they promote 24/7/365.

And on the lighter side, Roger Ailes is still dead.

So things have gone screwy at Guantanamo and a Brigadier General is in the can for 21 days, while a lower ranking judge is demanding that three attorneys who are no longer in Cuba return and represent a suspect who has been in custody for fifteen years, the first four of which were at CIA sites where he was extensively tortured.

And Fergus wants to send the Manhattan truck asswipe there because he thinks our judicial system is a joke and a laughingstock.

Except the victim wasn't immunocompromised, nor was the perpetrator a carrier of any terrible diseases like HIV or hepatitis. They were both healthy people in/near their 20s.

So her little germ warfare experiment wasn't all that likely to be lethal or permanently injurious. Garden variety illness was the most probable outcome, and the woman's intention. Criminal law doesn't generally address these sort of actions, which is why authorities had to resort to half-assed charges like "criminal mischief" and "second-degree breach of peace."

I will add that the victim of the "body fluid bully" might have decent grounds to sue her former roommate in civil court. She could sue for suffering when she got sick, time taken away from school work while sick, potential risk of having caught something more serious (even if it wasn't that likely), inconvenience of having had to find new housing, etc.

I'm just fairly skeptical that the bully is going to be convicted of any significant criminal charges. That's all I'm saying.

Anonymous said...

"And Fergus wants to send the Manhattan truck asswipe there because he thinks our judicial system is a joke and a laughingstock."

We'll see if Trump still feels our justice system is not sufficiently punitive when he's been convicted of his own crimes and is awaiting sentencing.

Anonymous said...

"9 out 10 dentist agree that polls are not reliable. Remember polls indicated Hillary was going to win in a landslide."

No, they didn't. Polls taken from the end of summer onward indicated that Hillary was going to win a slight majority of the popular vote. And, hey, she won a slight majority of the popular vote!

It only required shaving off a tiny margin of the popular vote in a handful of states -- via extensive cheating by Republicans, Trump, and Russians, btw -- to turn an Electoral College win for her into an Electoral College loss. Because that's how the Electoral College works.

The public may have gotten a wrong impression about the polling because the reporting on the polling was so stupid. But news media stupidity is not the fault of pollsters.

The insane part about the "terrorist attack" in NYC is the response from the right. Yes it's tragic that 8 people were killed and 11 were injured but the amazing part is the lengths trump and his ilk want to do "something". 50 people are killed and hundreds injured in Vegas but it's either "too soon" to talk about ways to mitigate a similar occurrence in the future or as some say it's something we just have to accept in a free and open society. One is an over reaction the other is an under reaction. Guess which is which.

Sure they were. You are too obtoothless and rejuvenated to see that.

How many laws got passed immediately after the mass slaughter? The NRA doesn't want any laws about gun control, irrespective of the 80 % of Americans that want tighter legislation.

The NRA might just as well been pulling the triggers. They are behind the scenes pulling puppeteer strings on domesticated, docile rwnj morons who fear being primaried more than anything else in the world. They don't do the NRA's bidding they get a primary challenge from an NRA endorsed and funded farther right wing nut job.

There were probably more "Jose Gonzalez"s purged for the high crime of having a similar name (and often not even the same middle name) as a voter in a different state, than Fergus margin of victory in at least three states.

Re: Should a white University of Hartford student face hate crime charges for what she did to her black roommate?

It seems clear that she was motivated by bigotry, rather than simple personality conflict, so I'd say that yes, she committed a hate crime. Some people seem to think that her attacks on her roommate were not severe enough to qualify as hate crimes, but exposing another human being to bodily fluid and fecal matter can result in prolonged illness and, in some cases, permanent injury. I would argue that her attack on her roommate was far worse than a traditional physical assault. Had she punched her roommate, her roommate would have had an opportunity fight back and/or defend herself. Not only is Brochu a racist bigot, she is also a coward...much like all White Supremacists.

Re: Was April Ryan wrong to ask the White House if they support slavery?

No. It is a legitimate question responding to a recent statement by a WH representative. I doubt anyone, including Ryan herself, expected SHS to give her a straight answer; however, this was yet another opportunity for the WH to respond with a declaration that it does *not* stand with White Supremacist sentiment, whether historical or current. No one expected them to do that, but they did have the chance.

The question that I think Ryan should ask herself is what does the answer, or the lack thereof, accomplish. It's not the kind of question that reveals anything, only confirms what we all suspect. At this point, how much confirmation do we need? There are probably better questions Ryan could ask to delve deeper into the subject...however, we are beginning to see a few people like Robert Mercer begin to distance themselves from the WH, at least publicly, which will make 45 that much more insecure and unstable (which is both good and bad). I can't fault Ryan for keeping the pressure on. The answer to that question depends on what you ultimate goal is.

"Lead to", not really the best phrasing; "contribute to", yes. Methane is a more powerful greenhouse gas than is CO2. As to how much it contributes, I can't recall any figures, and even if I could, they'd be old data. If you're honestly curious, look into it.
