What's next, Sarah on a Wheaties Box?

"WASHINGTON - Activists at a conservative political forum snapped up boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed "offensive material." The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

The box was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix. They sold it for $10 a box from a rented booth at the summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council...."

TEN DOLLARS? That's a lot for a box of waffles. Where do I start with this story? Some of you have been e-mailing me and commenting here about this story. And you wondered what my take would be on it. Some of you thought it was purely satire, as Bob DeMoss, one of the creators of the mix said; and you thought that I would see it as such. Well, it's a funny thing about satire: it's kind of like Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart described pornography: "I know it when I see it". Sorry folks, this wasn't satire, it was racism. Maybe I can't give a fair take on this subject, since my disdain for the people who were buying up and selling the Obama waffles is so strong. But that's just the way I see it. There is just too much history with these folks for me to give them a pass.

But then I hear that they didn't only offend my peeps by playing off the negative imagery of Aunt Jemima----that Mammy that A-merry-cans love so much--, but they offended Muslims on the top of the box, and Mexicans on the back. On the back they had an image of Obama in stereo typical Mexican dress, which included a sombrero. The picture was above a recipe for "Open Border Fiesta Waffles" and it said you can serve "four more illegal aliens...while waiting on these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language? " Nice! You gotta love those "Family Research Council" and American Values folks, they sure know how to fire up their base. I bet those pancake boxes were flying out of the booth. And I bet there will be a booming Internet business for these two creators for weeks and weeks to come.
"The Obama campaign declined to comment"
Of course they did. We can't have the "O man playing the victim card now can we. That's the beauty queen's job.

Dear God.

To steal a line from my man Oliver Willis, I like to think that I am like "kryptonite to stupid". So when I saw this article I cringed at just how stupid some folks can be.

Just imagine, right now in A-merry-ca some poor soul is on his knees, praying to the creator for it to rain on the "O" man's parade.

Dear God, could you please send buckets and buckets of rain---kind of like you did back in the days of Noah-- to rain down on this uppity Negro, Osama. Dear God, we think he could be the Anti-christ here on earth; or worse, a communist. So we really need you to show him and all of his followers who is the boss. Dear God, they are talking about 75,000 lost souls in that huge house that Elway built, so there will be a nice large audience for you to display your powers.

And dear God, please don't let that uppity Negro think that he can take your place here on earth, because he already thinks that he has some of your powers. I see how people flock to him lord, and how they faint in his presence and I know it's the work of the devil. We know that he couldn't be the chosen one dear lord because, well, he is a Negro.

Thank you for hearing my prayers dear lord, and like those Negro rappers like to say: "let it rain."

You can't make this shit up. Well, you can make it up, I just did. But you and I both know that someone actually had or is having a similar prayer right now.

Steward Shepard of the Focus on the Family political arm said that was meant to be "mildly humorous". "MILDLY HUMOROUS"? No Stewart, that shit is hilarious.

"If people took it seriously, we regret it.."

Try telling that to all those people who already sent up their prayers to God.

Who would Jesus vote for?

Like I wasn't going to get my two cents in on this debate. So now it seems that one of our great religious leaders here in A-merry-ca, is in an open feud regarding theology with our leading presidential candidate. That would be James Dobson. Mr. "focus on the family" himself. Good old James has taken issue with what the "O" man had to say about the old testament. Seems the two men have a totally different interpretation of the good book.

"I think he's deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology,
"... He is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter."

Really Reverend? And how do we know that your interpretation is the right one? Personally, I think this entire debate is silly. To me, it's like arguing the historical accuracy of stories in the Harry Potter series. But that's just me.

So there goes the "O" man. He has jumped right into this religious debate. (Hell, he even compared Dobson to Rev. Al. Those are fighting words "O" man) "Folks haven't been reading their Bibles,..." I see you have "O" man, but if you think it's going to get you the evangelical vote I have some news for you. Your advisers should have told you to just leave the religion thing alone. Lord knows it's gotten you in enough hot water. And now I hear that you are going to be reaching out to Christian radio and blogs (I guess I won't be hearing from your campaign anytime soon). "American Values House parties"? Just what the hell will we do there? Listen to Pat Boone Cd's, and bake flag shaped cookies? I don't know "O" man, you might want to reconsider that one.

Say what you will about Mr. Morton, the guy does have a certain agnostic streak about him that I admire. You won't see Mr. Morton in a bible scripture battle with some prominent preacher. Not that he needs to be. Trust me, he is a republican, and dem folks don't vote for Ivy League educated Negroes from the South side of Chicago, for POTUS. They just don't.

So "O" man, leave this battle alone. Ask yourself : wwjd. I bet he would turn the other cheek.
You might want to do the same.
