Passion on the right but none on the left.

*
Before I start this post, I would like to take a moment to think about the thousands of children who have died in Somalia due to the turmoil that has rocked that region.............................

Let's keep those poor children in our thoughts.

Now unfortunately, here in A-merry-ca, gun violence has once again caused unspeakable horror to hit a small community:

"COPLEY, Ohio — A man apparently angry with his girlfriend gunned down two people outside an Ohio home and two more in a car Sunday morning, then shot the girlfriend in a rampage that left eight dead including the gunman, who was shot by police, authorities and witnesses said.

Two others were wounded, police said. A child was among those shot, witnesses said, though police wouldn’t confirm that. Investigators were trying to piece together what happened at four crime scenes, Copley police Chief Michael Mier said.

A neighbor, Gilbert Elie, said he was getting ready for church when he heard gunshots and cries for help in his northeast Ohio neighborhood, a wooded, residential area outside Akron. He went to a house across the street and said he found a shocking scene: the woman who lived there lying in the driveway, her husband shot near the garage, and their young granddaughter and another woman sho t in the front seat of a vehicle, the windows apparently blown out by gunfire.

A third woman came out of the house next door and tried to talk to Elie, he said, but their brief exchange ended abruptly when a man followed her out of the house and shot her, sending the 75-year-old Elie running for safety behind a truck.

“She was talking to me, and he come up behind her and shot her, so I figured, maybe I’m next,” he told The Associated Press.
He hid until he could see the gunman was gone, then returned home. Police arrived, and Elie said he heard a second round of shots coming from behind the houses and assumed officers had killed the gunman." [Story]

It seems that I do one of these stories at least once a month. I am sure that I will be doing another one again really soon.

Finally, over at The Root, someone wants to know if the left has lost its passion:

"...The Tea Party's remarkable victory reminds us that a radical splinter group can seize control of the issues and impose its will by threatening to wreck the system if it does not get its way.

That is a lesson that the left used to know back in the days of the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements but seems to have forgotten since the presidential election of Barack Obama. The old distinction once drawn between mass social movements and political campaigns was lost in the emotional fervor aroused by the triumph of the first African-American president.

A lot of us acted as though Obama's election was an end in itself, rather than a means to accomplishing the change that his candidacy promised. But the election was never really about just getting Obama elected. It was about our ability to compel the new president and the Democratic majority in both houses of Congress to respond to our needs and our demands.

To do that, we still needed a movement, separate and apart from the president's political apparatus, that could support him when he did the right thing and pressure him when he didn't. As evangelical activist Jim Wallis recently wrote, "it was the robust activism of those independent progressive movements of the past that created the space for major reforms and made other presidencies memorable. That's because social change does not ultimately rest on who is in the White House, but a movement outside of Washington, D.C., that makes fundamental reforms possible." [Full article]

Yes, a movement "outside of Washington", indeed. But where will it come from?
Starting a movement these days requires money. The tea party clowns had lots of it. They were bought and paid for by wealthy folks who bankrolled all types of front groups. Their passion was manufactured and it was made easier to do so because of the color arousal (thanks for that word, Francis) that gripped most of the folks who rode with them. (See those people* in the picture? Most of them probably lost their jobs under George Bush.)

There is no passion on the left because the propagandist on the right have done a damn good job of selling their snake oil to you A-merry-cans. "We are all in this together. We are A-merry-cans first, and we will not let those lefties take us down a path to Socialism."Yeah right. Even the so called progressives in this country still align themselves with one politrickster or another. But it's the same old run around. It just feel a little better because the guy screwing you happened to buy you a drink, first.

But this could all change soon. As the wealth gap widens and folks start to see that they have been played, maybe the passion will come back. Politricksters in both political parties care about only one thing: staying in power. And they will do whatever it takes to keep going back to Washington. Hopefully a time will come in this country when the rest of us will start doing everything in our powers to make sure that they don't. Or, better yet, even if they do get to Washington; what they do when they get there wont even matter.

Hard as the truth may be sometimes, she probably did.

It makes sense that slavery really wasn't that bad, that all those stories of brutality and whippings were exaggerated. Black people wouldn't have gone along with for so long had it been like that. It probably wasn't all that bad. That's just what I think.

FYI:NEW YORK (CNBC) -- The U.S. doesn't deserve a AA-plus credit rating, much less triple-A, commodity bull and noted investor Jim Rogers said on Monday.

Rogers said the country is unlikely to be able to pay off its debt and that Standard and Poor's rating cut had come too late and should have happened long ago.

"It seems to me it's physically, humanly impossible for the U.S. to ever pay off its debt," Rogers said. "They can roll it over and continue to play the charade, but the U.S. is bankrupt."

Now, that is a scary thought. But most Americans are knee deep in debt, esp in the black community, where credit cards are max'd and debts are rarely paid off. Of course, there are a few exceptions.

I live 220 miles from Hackney, so there's nothing to worry about.

What we are seeing tonight is organized looting. Not what I would call proper rioting.

I did some proper rioting back in the '80's. Young people today, they don't know how to riot. They don't have the attention span to riot properly, they're too lazy. If there's not an app on their iPhone that does their rioting for them , they're completely fucked.

I blame the education system for the poor standard of modern rioting.

The thing about slavery: for many of us living in the ghetto and terrorized by gangs, street pirates, drugs, single families, black on black crime, violent black flash mobs, high unemployment, etc...maybe slavery wasn't that bad, as Shaniqua@5:46pm said.

And maybe Jesse Lee Peterson is right about being lucky as slaves versus being vulnerable and stuck in the violent darkness of Africa. Maybe that was all Michele Bachmann was saying?

I just got back from the South a few days ago. The heat is unbearable and very humid. And how Moses comes up with healthier and better working conditions than McDonalds is an ill joke. The people that live in the South do not even go outside unless they have to go to work, the store, or Dr. There is such a thing as heat strokes, which are easy to get working all day outside in that hot sun. Even the animals try to stay in the shade and even sitting in the shade is hot. Arkansas is so hot you can hardly breathe and so is LA. I'm sure McDonalds has an air conditioner, they didn't have that during slavery working out in that hot sun.

Picking cotton is back breaking and a person is constantly pricking their fingers to get the cotton out of the bulb. Puleeze.
Clearing land wasn't easy either because you had to deal with poisonous snakes, poisonous trees, wild animals. They don't have those in McDonalds, except for the two legged kind that tell vicious lies like those on the right.

The answer seems to be YES. Democrats will do that. And by limiting oil drilling, they will ensure that our oil imports continue to rise.

Now, he might compromise too much, but he is not unqualified, that's just not true. I know that those folks on the right and some libertarians and Democrats too would like for folks to believe that because they want him to fail and we all know why.

What is beyond me is the fact that Obama's job is not to make the laws that is Congress job. He just signs or veto the bills that Congress gives him. He cannot do anything without their cooperation, which he hasn't got since he has been in office and we all know why.

Government is a business too. And just like in an office, the clerical help can sabatage a business and bring it to its knees if they want to. It is not that hard. However, unlike a regular business they can fire the help and replace them if that happens. However, Obama cannot fire a Congressperson and they know it.

Obama has constantly played off black against white, liberal against conservative, poor against rich, Latino against white. Here's one example:

Barack Obama from his radio address on Univsion last November: "If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’"

How is he unqualified? He never ran anything, not even a lemonade stand. He was a state senator in Illinois for couple of years known for voting "present" most of the time. He was elected Senator from Illinois and served a whole 6 months before he started running for President. His lack of qualifications is very evident now, isn't it?

And the democrats controlled both houses of congress for the first two years of his term - he got everything he wanted, even though the people didn't want it.

This mess is all his.

Philadelphia Mob Story:

Nutter Sets 9 PM Weekend Curfew For Minors In Center City, University City

August 8, 2011
Reporting Mike Dunn

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Mayor Michael Nutter today announced a tighter weekend curfew in the Center City and University City regions of the city, as he continues grappling with the threat of “flash mobs” in Philadelphia.

Nutter today described those engaging in flash mob rampages as “a tiny minority of ignorant, reckless black fools.”

Then, flanked by dozens of law enforcement and community leaders, he spelled out a substantive change in the city’s curfew for two key areas — Center City and University City — on Friday and Saturday nights.

Anyone under 18 in those areas must now be off the streets by 9 PM.

And when parents come to pick up curfew violators, the mayor said, they’ll be told to keep track of the child.

“If you don’t even bother to pick up your child, we are immediately calling the Department of Human Services, and you can then be taken to court for other violations including neglect of your child,” he warned.

GrannyStandingforTruth said...

Matter of fact, if the truth be told his own party does not give him the support that they should or fight like they should. For instance, when he was trying to get the health bill passed, the blue dogs gave him so much opposition it was a darn shame. They do not stick together and a lot of them are dictated by big business and deep in their pockets. Smh!

Let me tell you what problem with Obama was. Picking Clinton's leftover cabinet and not putting his foot down we he should have. I've never trusted Clinton because he is sneaky. That bull about him being the first black president, he loved the fact that a lot of blacks went for that malarky. I saw through him and knew that he was not who they thought he was because he was a good ole boy and I smelled it on him. Hillary is a little more out in the open than he, but...well...I'll leave that alone. You can ignore little petty moves that the opposition pulls because they'll just magnify it and make a molehill out of a mountain.

I noticed that you downplayed his experience to a couple of years, but he held elective office for 10 years (more than Hillary Clinton and more than John Edwards), he's taught constitutional law at one of the top law schools in the country and seen politics and government from the viewpoint of a community organizer.

"seen politics and government from the viewpoint of a community organizer."

Community organizers only have to criticize, not create.

There is nothing in his background that says "presidential material". A Harvard degree does not make one superman.

One more thing, Bush ran a company into the ground and Reagan ran California into the ground and was an ex-actor without experience, so why do you hold a higher standard for President Obama than you do for them? Hillary wasn't a Senator that long either. In fact, Obama was Senator longer than her. Bush was governor of Texas and ran it into the ground too.

Amen, a Harvard degree does not make you Superman. However, President Obama never claimed to be Superman, those on the right gave him that handle trying to be sarcastic. President Obama told the people straight up that he could not do it by himself and he needed the people's help, which did not come forth like it should have. He said that he wanted to change the way that they did politics on Capitol Hill and work for the people instead of big corporations and bring change to Washington.

Nevertheless, it looks like a lot of people must have slept through what he said the night he won the Presidency because they have some very short memories all of a sudden. Maybe, they need to go back and read his acceptance speech because he has been attempting to do what he said he would do and he cannot do that without cooperation and support from Congress, especially those in his own party. He is only one man and it takes many voices to bring about change.

Not once have I seen all of the Democrats step up to the plate and give him the support they should give him or fight by his side like they should do. They just throw him out in the ring to fight against the whole Republican party all by himself and sit back and watch. Well...I'm glad it's him and not me because they sure would have been hollering an angry black woman because stepping on eggshells is not my best suit. :)

excuse me I meant to say tiptoeing on eggshells.

Let me make a few corrections to some errors.

*You cannot ignore little petty moves that the opposition pulls because they'll just magnify it and make a molehill out of a mountain."*

*Let me tell you what problem I had with Obama was picking Clinton's leftover cabinet.*

Sorry about the errors, but I'm trying to get use to the keyboard on this computer. Please bear with me, until I get adjusted to it. :)

Heard they be marchin in Philly. Like they're marchin in Israel, and In London. Like they marched in Libya, and Iran.
Children marchin to take their country back from their mamas and papas, who cut them off at their knees. (oh, not you. you KNOW who I mean -- the ones what listen to their lies).

Best Estimate of unemployment among 18-25 yr olds is 20% (and that's conservative). You can double that among blacks I'm sure.
