An "angry old white guy" speaks.

Image result for angry white men images* People say that I don't have diverse view points when I feature my education series, so tonight I want to feature a cut and paste job from an "angry old white guy."

"I keep reading that people like me -- older white guys -- are angry about what is happening to their country. In recent years, their grievances have been voiced by Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck. Then they found an outlet in the Tea Party. Now they are filling the seats at Donald Trump rallies and perhaps propelling him toward what seemed unthinkable, the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump explained his own anger this way in the last Republican debate he took part in:

I'm very angry because our country is being run horribly and I will gladly accept the mantle of anger. Our military is a disaster. Our health care is a horror show. Obamacare, we're going to repeal it and replace it. We have no borders. Our vets are being treated horribly. Illegal immigration is beyond belief. Our country is being run by incompetent people.

Hey, Donald! I'm angry, too. But the sources of my anger are quite different than yours. Let me explain.

I was born in 1954, just a few months after the Supreme Court, in Brown v. Board of Education, dealt the biggest blow to white supremacy since the beginning of the republic, when a bunch of property-owning white men -- to whom the franchise was restricted at the time -- drafted a constitution in which Black slaves were considered three-fifths of a human being.

When I was in grade school, Betty Friedan wrote The Feminist Manifesto, and the pill liberated women to begin the long and still-incomplete march to full participation in the workplace and in political life. A vibrant and courageous civil rights movement brought about the landmark civil rights acts of the mid-1960s, which also saw the establishment of Medicare and the end of racist immigration quotas.

When I was in high school, the Environmental Protection Agency was established, and the Stonewall uprising marked the dawn of the modern gay rights movement whose arc, yet unfinished, led to last year's glorious Supreme Court decision making marriage equality the law of the land.

When I was in college, the Roe v. Wade decision ended back-alley abortions and affirmed the right of women to control their own bodies and therefore their full personhood.

I'm angry not because all these things happened. I'm angry because they are in jeopardy from the likes of Donald Trump and his fellow Republican presidential candidates. They rail about "political correctness" to justify bigotry and cruelty, when in fact the most vigorous enforcer of political correctness is the far right "base" of the Republican Party and its amen corner in the media. Thanks to them, no candidate may dare buck the NRA's absolutist -- and murderous -- stance against any sensible gun regulation. No candidate may acknowledge the reality of climate change and what is needed to save the planet, or the humanity of immigrants and refugees who deserve a medal for enduring untold hardships to make it to this country -- where they are a vital part of its economy and its very fabric -- not the scorn and abuse that has been heaped upon them.

I'm angry because I'm sick and tired of the lies we have been told. That raiding the Treasury for huge tax cuts for the rich will trickle down to working people, when in fact the gulf between the superrich and everyone else has grown to unsustainable dimensions which threaten the very social compact. That waging a war of choice in Iraq would usher in a democratic resurgence and make us safe, when it has left the Middle East in lethal turmoil, cost the lives of many thousands of young soldiers, maimed many multiples more, and sapped the country's capacity to attend to the urgent needs here at home, like roads and bridges and schools. When my grandson's pre-K teacher tells us that she has to spend hundreds of dollars from her own pocket for school supplies, it makes my blood boil.

I'm angry because the first African American president, elected to do something about the wretched mess he inherited, with a financial system on the brink of collapse and a soaring unemployment rate -- and who has done something about it -- has been opposed and vilified at every turn, from a right-wing which questions his very legitimacy (down to the facts of his biography) and whose most passionate cause is to strip away health security from millions who now have it, thanks to this President, for the first time in their lives.

I'm angry because Black Lives Matter is so necessary, given the epidemic of police murders of Black and Brown people trying to go about their lives. The law, Martin Luther King, Jr. said, may not be able to make a man love me, but it can stop him from killing me. But when it is the law that is killing you, we have come very far from King's hopeful promise.

I understand that many white men -- and women and people of color as well -- who have been left out of this economy, who can't make ends meet, who feel that the American dream is not working for them, are very angry about this, and justifiably so. But I cannot countenance the misdirection of their anger, and the ugly bigotry that has been stoked by opportunistic politicians like Donald Trump. Their anger should be focused on the greedy and lawless and their enablers in politics, not on those who, like themselves, are casualties of a political and economic system that operates for the benefit of a privileged few, not for all of us.

My grandson will grow up in a country in which most people don't look like him, in which people of color and women will be the overwhelming majority. If work hard to restore the momentum toward a just and inclusive society that filled my younger years with optimism and hope about the future, this new majority will take its rightful place in the leadership of our key institutions, from boardrooms to capitols. There will be room for him, too, if we turn this country's priorities around. But he will make his way without benefit of the rigged rules that men of my generation grew up with, where women and minorities were largely excluded from the game. When everyone is included, everyone benefits. That's why I'm channeling my anger into pushing for policies and the candidates who will back them, that make our democracy and our economy work for all people." [Source]

I am feeling you "angry old white guy".  So I take it that you don't want to "make America great again". You know, in your heart, that it's already great, and that those are just code words for something sinister being played out in the heart of the xenophobe.

But hey, anger sells, and a great salesman has found that out. Now he is selling it to the country, and we have all bought in.

Whether made legal or illegal, abortions kill babies. Period. This is not about women controlling their bodies, this is about lives of the vulnerable child whom their own mothers are killing. This is a grave sin.

Roe vs Wade must be rescinded.

Is the country any better? What did increasing 3rd world immigration do for us except drop our test scores? What about the 30 million people still uninsured? How did that work for them?unemployment has went down. Because people have stopped looking for work which takes them off the unemployment numbers. Are black children getting a better education now? No they are not.opposing illegal aliens is not racist or bigotry. I guess you just leave your doors and windows open for anybody to come. And before you say that's different, that's my home, this country is my home and I want to make it great again.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU AND THANK YOU FOR A VERY THOUGHTFUL AND TRUTHFUL MESSAGE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE REST OF YOUR RESPONDERS HAVE BEEN LISTENING TOO MUCH TO TRUMP--WHO, IF ELECTED, MAY WELL BRING TO FRUITION THE DESTRUCTION OF THIS COUNTRY. I'M 74 YEARS OLD AND HAVE LIVED THROUGH A LOT OF UPS AND DOWNS IN THIS COUNTRY, BUT RIGHT NOW I FEAR FOR ITS VERY SOUL.

No, we have not all bought in.

The people who are committed Republican voters make up maybe a third of the populace. And Trump is currently pulling only a 35% share of that third. This means Trump's supporters make up, what, 12% of the total populace? Possibly a few percent more, if polling fails to capture some "hidden" Trump people who won't admit their views to pollsters because they are aware that support for Trump is a bad look.

Don't get me wrong, this group are still big news. The Trumpite dead-enders may potentially succeed in thoroughly fucking up the Republican Party. And they are loud, obnoxious, and attention-grabbing.

But they are a long, long way from constituting the majority of Americans, or even the majority of white Americans.

Dear Field,

I read your blog every day because you are always thoughtful and it sure looks like you are always Truthful. Thank you for this piece showing the other side of angry white guy-ness. I believe there are many more of us like the quoted party--who are keenly aware of our surroundings.

We are awake enough to realize that what happens to "y'all" eventually happens to large numbers of us. We were educated in some good public schools, where we learned respect and literature. Some of us were raised in union households and we vote.

The future of the country, I think, is going to hinge on a better deal for working people. Higher wages, paid health care, family leave time, secure neighborhoods with good streets. I don't see a color line among those criteria.

White people are going to HAVE to settle the f*ck down and stop shooting everything that moves. Looks like it will be on us old heads to bring this about, so wish us luck. Speed to your plow, Sir!

BLM is just the latest in a long line of groups created by white communists to exploit black anger:

http://www.aim.org/special-report/reds-exploiting-blacks-the-roots-of-black-lives-matter/

Murder rates in black communities are up across the nation:

The number of homicides in the country’s 50 largest cities rose nearly 17 percent last year, the greatest increase in lethal violence in a quarter century.

A Wonkblog analysis of preliminary crime data found that about 770 more people were killed in major cities last year than the year before, the worst annual change since 1990.

The killings increased as some law enforcement officials and conservative commentators were warning that violent crime was on the rise amid a climate of hostility toward police. They said protests and intense scrutiny of officers who used lethal force had caused officers to become disengaged from their jobs, making streets more dangerous. Some have called it the “Ferguson effect,” after the St. Louis suburb in which Michael Brown Jr. was shot and killed by a police officer in 2014.

All those extra black people getting killed? Hey, it's the cost of Progress.

There haven't been any significant number of communists in this country for many decades. It's like four elderly Birkenstock-wearing coots who meet every alternating Thursday in a local community center. There's your communist movement here in the U.S.A.

I'm not actually not sure, but the idea that there is some shady yet powerful network of communists secretly attempting to overthrow the government -- that might even be sillier than believing white people are the real victims of racism. It's a toss-up, really.

Nice trolling, there, Bill.

Trump supports cops having unlimited power. If a few Tamir Rices have to die, well, you've gotta break some eggs to make an omelet.

As for Flint's current crisis, Trump would probably find a way to personally profit off selling poisoned water -- while marketing the contamination as a beneficial "nutritional supplement." NOW, WITH ADDED VITAMINS AND MINERALS (including lead). He's that kind of businessman. Look up his history as a slumlord to see just how he treats poor people.

Yes, but you obviously didn't. None of the analysis in the article indicates any link between criticism of cops and increases in crime. (Not that it's possible to determine much of value about the effectiveness of crime policy based on data over the way-too-short time span of a year, in any event.)

The BLM ‘movement’ inhibits law enforcement; this in turn inhibits civil order, and – voila! – the murder-needle sharply ascends into the red area of the inner-city graph paper. The only result more predictable are ever-shriller op-eds from hand-wringing SJWs running out of scapegoats, but something tells me they’ll be falling sharply out of favor as we draw closer and closer to 2017.

The term “Ferguson Effect” fits the MSM narrative that cops are the problem, even when they chose not to engage the bad guys. Truth is, police have a poor rate of closure when it comes to solving most murders. I don’t think it is reasonable to expect the police to prevent crimes, in this case shootings and murders, when the powers that be don’t want them to “police” the most likely criminals.

I see the Grand Ole Party of Racism or should I say the party of hate, still hasn't learned their lesson.

In you there are men who say evil of others, causing death; in you they have taken the flesh with the blood for food; in your streets they have put evil designs into effect.

The people of the land have been acting cruelly, taking men's goods by force; they have been hard on the poor and those in need, and have done wrong to the man from a strange land.

He who is cruel to the poor for the purpose of increasing his profit, and he who gives to the man of wealth, will only come to be in need.

You have given your decision against the upright man and have put him to death. He puts up no fight against you.

Come now, you men of wealth, give yourselves to weeping and crying because of the bitter troubles which are coming to you.

Perhaps a few to simply stare vacantly at the teevee. None of which is relevant.

What matters is their presence accrues to our detriment, and we don’t exist for their sakes. And since good feels for great harm can only persist for so long, the moral preening will eventually cease.

Porter were you born with the Zika virus because otherwise you couldn't possibly be this stupid. Who the fuck said you were compelled to give a shit about them?

Lance, somebody's gotta fill those vacancies. In this race war black folks are trying so desperately to initiate in today's America, one side needs some serious numbers. This "all of America will be mixed" dream minorities have--because they hate white people--is still a century or more away, at the very least (more like 5,000 years by my math, but WTF do I know? I only know how phenotypic distributions work; everyone else thinks it's as simple as a coloring book). So black folks are going to need to swell their ranks. So when Stacey is thrown out for not having the right ideology, black folks would do well to replace her with someone who does.

On a side note: Since some here seem to believe they have the power to just pull the "black" from Stacey Dash, does this mean her hair will grow straight now and that she won't need weave? Just wond'rin.

Bravo! Great piece.

Yeah Josh, there is a lot of that going around. A lot of right wingers (case in point Goldberg's errand boy Webb-aholic) want to paint Obama white.

The "all America will be mixed dream" may be sooner than you think if you go by the one-drop rule.

But I'm assuming you knew that Stacey's ideology is not what I was referring to, or it's more than your eyes that need checking.

If you got by that one-drop rule, I'm already black. My DNA is nearly 3% Nigerian, according to 23andme.com. But if we're counting "black" or whatever as actual mixed-race, more like Obama, or at the very least someone like Rashida Jones, then we're looking at something that's going to take a really, really long time.

As for Dash -- sure, that's not what you were referring to, but it is the only reason Field--and those that way inclined to agree with Field--decide to say she isn't "black." It's ideology; Field and his ilk are "black" as an ideology. I'm not smearing; just observing, nor am I telling any tales out of school. Folks know how it works. To be "black," in the eyes of guys like Field, is more than skin color. If Wesley Snipes started waving a Trump sign and was seen eating dinner with Sarah Palin, his crispy butt would be thrown out of the race by folks like Field.

And I reiterate what I said the other day: It seems to me that picking and choosing who's "black" and who isn't is house negro behavior. Don't upset massa. Don't let those free-thinking negroes into the house, lest they might fuck up the system and then the house negroes no longer get biscuits in the morning.

Well ok Josh, I see this as a non-issue which is why I was making light of it. Black as an ideology, maybe, but who is to decide where the boundaries of being black should be drawn? But hey if it's of such great social import to you, a salud

This is what I don't understand on this blog. Why can't I speak my opinion about something without people lining up to act like I'm stressing and obsessed and digging in on it too much? In case some of the slower folks here haven't noticed, what I say is in direct reply to Field's stances on shit. I happen to disagree that one can simply tell another human being "you're no longer black because you don't think like I do." Why can I not have an opinion on this topic without y'all chadrools needing to ascribe to me some bunny-boiler stance as if I have OCD over it? It makes no fucking sense. Is this just another in a long line of deferring tactics to get people to STFU about a topic you'd rather not address? If so, I'm cool with that. But between you and PX, I'm not allowed to even mention something in two words of one post without y'all acting like I've built a fucking shrine to the issue and need to take Xanax over it.

What's the deal there?

Meanwhile, y'alls idol can make 47 Trump posts a week and nobody tells him he's going a little too overboard with it and the suchlike. But let me address a point in one comment, suddenly I'm treating it like it's the most important thing in the history of the universe. I can't facepalm hard enough visiting here.

It was just a fucking joke Josh, cool your jets.

As a matter of fact I have given Field shit about his Trump obsession, (case in point here and here).
