The Corn Pops janitor, and Kellogg's race problem.

Ya'll know me, I can chase racism with the best of them. And if I happen to see an instance of racism or something I consider racially insensitive, I have no problem with calling out the perpetrator.

Sometimes, though, we might cry racism and it's a false alarm.

Let's take the case of the Kellogg's corporation and their Corn Pops problem.

"Kellogg's has agreed to redesign the artwork on its Corn Pops cereal boxes after a complaint on Twitter slammed it as racially insensitive imagery.

The cereal box's artwork shows the corn pop cartoon characters inhabiting a shopping mall and taking part in various activities. Some corn pops are shopping, while others are playing arcade games or jump rope.

Amid the bustle is one brown-colored corn pop dressed as a janitor pushing a floor waxer.
Writer Saladin Ahmed used Twitter on Tuesday to express dismay that the only brown-colored corn pop was a janitor and said the illustration was teaching racism. " [Source]

I gotta tell you, I am looking at the artwork, and I don't see the racism.

Maybe it's because I don't think being a janitor is necessarily a bad thing. There are janitors in this town who have raised families and sent their children to college with the help of their salaries as janitors. I have a friend who owns a janitorial company and his net worth is far more than most of the lawyers that I know. Honestly, I have a bigger problem with the fact that the janitor is wearing headphones while working, but nothing about the artwork jumped out at me. It passed my racism smell test. Besides, the other characters are more yellow than white, so I am not even seeing where stereotyping could be problematic.

Having said that, when are major companies like Kellogg's  going to realize that you need people of color in the room when you make these types of advertising decisions? This could save them so much in bad PR and money.

Think of what happened to the folks over at Dove recently (which I did think was kind of racist), or the infamous Nivea civilized ad (also racist).

The one that really set me off ---for obvious reasons was the white man with the Jamaican accent spreading "good vibes" around the office to reggae music after buying a Volkswagen.

The advertising graveyard is littered with these  types of  clueless tone-deaf spots, which ultimately leave the company responsible for them having to apologize for their lack of sensitivity.

Kellogg's did.

Although they didn't have to. Fortunately for Kellogg's that was not the case with their Corn Pops. At least I didn't see it that way.

I can take off my racism track shoes. There will be no chase with this one.

Thoughts?

Regarding the racial stereotyping of the black janitor on the back of the Kellogs Corn Pops box:

The white executives and staff that design and develop these racially insensitive advertisements are neither clueless or tone deaf.

It's no accident. They know exactly what they are doing, and they've been doing it for decades.

There are numerous (mainly white) people in the board rooms at the agencies where these racist advertising concepts are created.

They know exactly what they are doing.
They're just waiting to see how far they can go, and "IF" they can quietly slip them through and get away with it without anyone calling them out on it.

They've been doing it for decades and they will continue doing it.

White folks are raised to be preoccupied, envious and resentful of people of "COLOR" (and especially jealous, hateful and resentful of black men). They only feel superior when they can paint people of color in a negative light.

They only want to see black people in stereotypical subservient, and low paying forms of employment such as janitorial and domestic careers which don't require education or offer advancement.

Without a doubt, I guarantee you white folks know when they are creating racially insensitive shit.
There just hoping that black folks can be "bamboozled" into thinking otherwise.

Example: The way LeBron James allowed himself to be bamboozled and hoodwinked when he was photographed by a famous photographer and portrayed as King Kong the big black ape with his mouth open and teeth flaring on the cover of Vogue Magazine where he is grabbing at the white model on the cover.

I'm Just Saying said...

Would you have seen the racism had the brown corn pop been a woman in a maid's uniform?

Traditionally, blacks have been janitors, as wells as maids to whites.

Notwithstanding how much a janitor may make in today's labor market, it's still suggestive of racism, that this is a job for which only blacks can qualify and excel in, as other white-collar jobs are for whites and not blacks.

Further, it niches blacks along traditional roles; an Ad like this can make broad statements about racial groups, furthering stereotypes that may be prevalent in society, rather than shattering them.

Hence, I say breakout: shatter stereotypes, don't reinforce them. To reinforce them is racist, insensitive, and an inaccurate portrayal of blacks or browns.

Actually, the lesson Kellogs and the rest of corporate America should be learning is that you cannot make people happy who exist merely to find offense. It is a waste of time, money and sanity listening to the concerns of blacks. Black people externalize all of their failings on the white society in which they cannot function.

A fucking Corn Pops box had artwork that didn't explicitly identify a janitor as white? This is what black America demands?

All this stuff does is red pill more white people. Keep it up.

All of the pale corn pops are having fun in the mall, shopping, getting their cornrowed braids cut off...and the ONE brown pop is CLEANING up after the pale ones. Yes, there's a problem with the message: brown people are only supposed to be in the mall servicing the pale ones, never enjoying the fruits of their labor.

Simple fix: make them all pale, or mix in other colors, from the start!

I don't know if this is racist or not, but my first real W-4 job was as a janitor and it taught me some lessons about life for $2.18 an hour. Like the sort of things perfectly normal looking people would do in a public restroom and then leave for the janitor to deal with.

Kellog's, though, is a weird company. John Harvey Kellogg invented corn flakes as part of an anti-masturbation crusade:

"Kellogg thought that masturbation was the worst evil one could commit; he often referred to it as "self-abuse". He was a leader of the anti-masturbation movement, and promoted extreme measures to prevent masturbation.[66][67][68] In addition, Kellogg thought that diet played a huge role in masturbation and that a bland diet would decrease excitability and prevent masturbation. Thus, Kellogg invented Corn Flakes breakfast cereal in 1878. He hoped that feeding children this plain cereal every morning would help to combat the urges of "self-abuse".[69][70][71]"

"Kellogg worked on the rehabilitation of masturbators, often employing extreme measures, even mutilation, on both sexes. He was an advocate of circumcising young boys to curb masturbation and applying phenol to a young woman's clitoris."

Weird dude.

Yes, LeBron James allowed himself to be photographed in one of the worst black stereotypes ever...he was "hoodwinked" and "bamboozled." When you don't know your history, this is what happens.

Regarding the previous question:

White women will always want the "forbidden fruit" which is a "Black Man" (the greatest fruit on earth).

As far back as slavery days many white women seduced and raped their black slave men and when these white women became pregnant and gave birth to black babies, both the white women and their husbands killed the babies.

It's no secret that advertising places subliminal (but powerful) messages in one's head.
Advertising can "brainwash" people into believing and doing the unthinkable.

Advertising caused Hitler's "all white" army to kill 6 million "white" Jews.
And let us not forget that Judaism is a religion. It is not a nationality.

Advertising in commercials, television and print, perpetuates racial discrimination and stereotypes.

Advertising has made billions believe that if you take a piece of dried dog shit of of the sidewalk, spray it with white paint and cover it with a blonde wig you can sell it to the world and make them believe it is better than god almighty.

Advertising... EVERYONE knows that it's VERY powerful.

Field, If you read this book, you will gain an even greater perspective into why the obviously only black corn pop in a janitorial role (cleaning up for white folks) on the cereal box surrounded by the lighter corn pops (the white ones) has you questioning whether or not it was intentional.

As this author (who is white) admits they do things in such a subtle but intentional way that it has you doubting the obvious.

The history and upper management of Kellogg includes an impressive mix of strong, intelligent women of color who oversee the funding of so many great programs that benefit African American communities across the country. That being said, I can't imagine the company intentionally stooping to degrade Black people. I, like Field, didn't really see anything demeaning in being a janitor because I also know folks doing that kind of work who do very well for themselves. However, the advertising companies seem to constantly make decisions with no Black people in the room that present people of color in demeaning ways as in the case of Dove, BMW etc. I applaud Kellogg for responding so quickly and that decision was due I'm sure to the input of those Black women in the corporation who are in positions to influence those decisions.

He made a significant observation: THERE BROWN CORN POPS DO NOT EXIST! The cartoonists had to import a Coco Puff to make the janitor brown! The question then becomes why?? So this becomes a very conscious act of racism.

Would whites think it was cute? Maybe. Would people of color, knowing that the cartoonists had to go out of their way (cereal box) to make the distinction? You decide.

There is no way this was an official decision by Kellogg's. Either this was some kind of error, or it was a racist joke by an artist to himself. The latter is the sort of thing animators have done for years (including at Disney) with sexual humor: insert a dick into a corner of the kids' cartoon, appearing on-screen for only a couple seconds. You won't notice it unless you know to look for it.

A Brief History of Hiding Dicks in Cartoons

Kellogg's managers would not have caught this before it went to production, because they were not meant to. Then again, nobody else would have noticed it either, if not for the outrage-mongers making a big deal about it. So why does it even matter? Who cares?

Honestly, freaking out over insignificant crap like this only helps wingnuts undermine anti-racism as a whole. Real racism and injustice is the same as it's ever been. It's racist cops, an over-punitive justice system, discrimination in hiring, lack of access to education and bank lending, and so on.

..... I do see the point re: advertising, especially given that marketing and propaganda use the same principles, with the main difference between them being that one is trying to sell a product, and the other is trying to sell a political agenda.
- So, OK, because of that, some folks felt that the image was bothersome, and OK, they complained, and OK, Kellogg's changed it.
- Am I insane for thinking, "So what"?, for thinking that, well, they had the right to contact the company, and well, the company had the right to put a different picture on its box?
-
- But really, that one change is supposedly the origin of a "right wing boycott"...? People are having fits of rage about ONE change to ONE image on the box of ONE type of cereal...? Seriously?!?!
- Wow.
- Talk about "some people being determined to find offense in everything"... It seem to me that flying into a tizzy about that is similar to people getting in to a tizzy because, somewhere, two people (whom they don't know and will never meet) of the same legally-designated sex get married, that similarity being:
If your life and self mage is, and/or if your own marriage is, actually "being destroyed" because someone 1000 miles away wrote a letter to a company, and/or because two people 1000 miles away got married, then your life, self-image, marriage (whatever) is so fragile, and so rotten at the core, that is could never stand under its own weight, and no external force exists that would be sufficient to prop it up - and it certainly can't be 'saved' by controlling other people's lives.

"Don't make mountains out of mole-hills."
It's applicable here.
-
- The other annoyance is the combination of deliberate misinterpretation/reinterpretation, and the damned *conflation*/"false equivalency". So one writes X, and they claim one said Q, and then build a string of snarks on top of Q.
- I think that's called a "straw man argument".
- No matter how often one says, "But that's not what I said", nope, doesn't matter - "Q" sticks in their heads and become, to them, "the fact".
-
- I've had to deal with people who were having paranoid hallucinations, and who claim that the hallucination was real and that anyone who didn't see it was already "taken over" by whatever it was they were hallucinating about.
- Trying to speak rationally with people who create their own reality is exactly as impossible as trying to speak rationally with, and trying to cal, a person in the grips of a literal schizophrenic hallucination. The main difference is that the blatantly-psychotic person speaks and behaves oddly enough that most people realize the/she is psychotic. - The frustrating thing with the borderline types is that they are just enough to this side of bizarre to pass as more or less 'normal'.
- Them of course, there are the blatant and deliberate propagandists who don't give even as much as a gnat's crap about anything other than getting what they perceive as being a personal benefit, usually money, bot sometimes, just influence over weak-minded people who become followers.
-
- And those two types - the barely-sane and the malignant narcissists - are the people to whom the majority of eligible voters have complacently handed the nation over.
- The worst type of all is the complacent person, who accepts good and evil with equal disinterest and, worst, equal amounts of whining.

Hey, Mikey, you're so in love with the African... do you actually know any Africans?

As of the 2010 census, Cherokee IA had just 50 Black people out of a total population of 5139.  That is a shade less than 1%.  Hispanics out-number them 3:1.  The city is 94.3% non-Hispanic White (legacy American).

Cherokee County, well... population 11836, 95.7% non-Hispanic White, 2.3% Latrino... Blacks too insignificant to list.  They're probably all renters in the city proper.

It's a safe bet that 99% of the Africans you've seen and heard aren't live ones, but carefully-sculpted images on the television.  You probably think fondly of the fake Cliff Huxtable, not the real serial rapist Bill Cosby.  (Turns out Black Science Man was a rapist too.)  You've never been through a landscape that looks bombed out because it went Black, and can't be recovered because the Blacks make it too dangerous.

If I could only acquaint you with real Africans the way Steve Utash was educated.  Well, your chances of actually surviving such an experience to learn from it is low, but at least we wouldn't have to put up with your idiotic pontificating on race.

BTW, Utash didn't "accidentally" hit anyone.  The 10-yr-old deliberately kicked his truck and caught a little too much of it.  Utash stopped to see if anyone had been hurt, and was nearly killed for giving a fuck about an African.  This is not a mistake I will make again.

You just lassoed your own asshole, asshole. I don't live in Cherokee, County and I do know some Blacks as well as Hispanics an Asian or two and at least one Lesbian. I have Italian relatives, a Hispanic niece in law, etc.

You've never been through a landscape that looks bombed out because it went Black, and can't be recovered because the Blacks make it too dangerous.

Neither have you or you wouldn't have been left alive to spout your racist bullshit all over. I imagine you were well hidden and quiet as a church mouse anytime you were within 2 time zones of imaginary bombed out black districts.

Baldingo you are a phony fucking racist hiding in yer mommie's bomb shelter.

Have a nice all white, lonely life.

Baldingo's white racist buds attack a bi-racial couple in Tennessee and beat the woman bloody. Guess Baldingo and Drumpfuck will give the racists new white sheets as a reward. Watnto go, Baldy. Stir up white hate. That is all you are good for. The authorities could believe you might be responsible for this. Run and hide little racist.

"- That comment makes Zero sense. I'm sorry for Mr. Utash, but my neighbors were not involved - neither the African American ones, nor the Preacher from Kenya one house over; nor was the Houston Police Officer who is one of the officers who patrols the neighborhood."

Oh, look, YKAGO.  Good for you.  Makes you feel all virtuous, doesn't it?  Saves you from thinking what side they'll come down on when the racial SHTF.  That is too uncomfortable to consider.

Meanwhile you don't think twice before accusing the likes of me of perpetuating systems of oppression while I have to watch out for Black-run racial no-go zones, and any attempt on my part to establish the same to exclude Blacks and their pathologies is a Federal crime.

"- If someone said that Manson, Dahmer, Paddock, and the BTK killer are representative of all Whites, you'd go apoplectic."

Yawn.  We have some clown here who brings up some baby-rapist over and over, never bothering to mention that we arrested him and threw him in jail for the rest of his days.  It's not like Black jury nullification where Blacks refuse to convict their obviously guilty co-racials (O.J. Simpson, Quiton Tellis) or hold protests about there being too many Black men in prison.  WIth all the Black crime going on, there obviously are not nearly ENOUGH Black men in prison.

"- Yet you repeatedly do exactly the same thing that you condemn others for supposedly doing: find the worst possible examples of human behavior and then use those to falsely impugn ALL people who fall into one or another racial group that you decided to dislike."

Except the "Black community" welcomes those worst possible examples of behavior back to its collective bosom and holds them up as cultural heroes.

Show me all the Black people condemning the Black assassins of police in Dallas and elsewhere.  Now show me even one who hasn't been condemned as an oreo or Uncle Tom.

"- It's not rational."

Political Correctness is a war on noticing.

"I don't live in Cherokee, County"

Carefully avoiding any mention of what county you DO live in, because you know the stats will show that it's just as White.  The choices are Sioux, O'Brien, Clay, Plymouth, Buena Vista, Woodbury, Ida and Sac.  So, which is it?

"I do know some Blacks as well as Hispanics an Asian or two and at least one Lesbian."

Guess what, so do I.  I know several Asians (the Chinese are great, the dot-heads are annoying and the Pakis are insufferable) and a whole bunch of lesbians, as it turns out.  I come from a place that's gone full leftard.  I know leftards better than they know themselves.

"I have Italian relatives, a Hispanic niece in law, etc."

For a long time, the Italians did an excellent job of keeping Blacks out of their parts of Boston.

"You've never been through a landscape that looks bombed out because it went Black, and can't be recovered because the Blacks make it too dangerous.

Neither have you or you wouldn't have been left alive to spout your racist bullshit all over."

I have driven through Gary, escaping traffic tie-ups on I-94 by dodging to the tollway.  I took the central route through KCMO as recently as last year.  I explored Benton Harbor once.  Across the river is St. Joseph, a picturesque town with a great fishing pier and a wonderful beach.  To the north is Benton Township, a pretty nice place in its own right.  Benton Harbor has buildings which are missing their windows, roofs falling in, thickets of trees growing where there were once lawns, few visible businesses.  Distances to White areas are too short to keep any local business; they leave so they don't have to endure the robberies and burglaries.

Benton Harbor looks worse than Raqqa.  It looks like Detroit and Gary, and for the same reason.

"I imagine you were well hidden and quiet as a church mouse anytime you were within 2 time zones of imaginary bombed out black districts."

Rode my mountain bike through BH on US-31 twice, out and return.

"Baldingo you are a phony fucking racist hiding in yer mommie's bomb shelter."

Nothing phony about me at all.  I'm a real fucking racist.  Black women training dey baybeez to come up to White people and say "GIVE ME MONEY!" will do that to a guy.  It's this drip, drip, drip of entitled bullshit that creates Negro Fatigue.

Oh, and I've got an AR not 4 feet from me.  Come at me, bro.  If you won't after all that big talk, you're a pussy.

"Baldingo's white racist buds attack a bi-racial couple in Tennessee and beat the woman bloody."

FTA:

"the “black gentleman” took the first swing.

In other words, self-defense.  The bi-racial couple were the aggressors.

"Heimbach also defended the beating of the woman, saying, “She jumped in and took swings at people. The confrontation wasn’t any of us.”"

In short, you're defending the attackers.  Given your situation it's probably not Stockholm syndrome, so it must be regular old liberal delusion or leukophobia.

"Stir up white hate."

That's what you're doing, with your blatant anti-white racism.  The problem is that you aren't honest enough to just eat a shotgun and leave the rest of us alone; no, you insist that we have to suffer crime and other abuse because you don't feel we're worthy of peaceful lives among our own kind.

Well, if you don't want to eat a shotgun, force-feeding is an option.

Don't give up yer racist day job, racist. You ain't funny enough to be a comedian. I guess stoopid fuckers like you that claim to have a right to wear swastikas and confederate flags on their persons and plastered all over their vehicles feel the right to go anywhere without being hasseled because of your lily white privilege. Cry me a river, punk. Bet you keep Depends handy when the little black neighbor kid walks by and you shit yer britches.

"Don't give up yer racist day job, racist."

Already gave it up.  Don't miss it a bit.  I'm working on some ideas that could make me a huge pile of money, I'm having a great time.

"You ain't funny enough to be a comedian."

Your mistake is thinking that you're my audience.  I troll you.  I write for the realists and red-pill newbies among the lurkers.

"I guess stoopid fuckers like you that claim to have a right to wear swastikas and confederate flags on their persons and plastered all over their vehicles"

My car and clothes are symbol-free.  Some bigoted fucks kicked in my windshield once when I had a "Pro Child / Pro Choice" bumper sticker.  That was enough of that, in that age before cheap security cameras.

"feel the right to go anywhere without being hasseled because of your lily white privilege."

Whereas Black people feel the right to go anywhere even if they're one-person crime waves.  That's why I intend to take that feeling away, and the fact.  We should end Black-on-other crime by making Blacks stay with and prey on their own exclusively.

"Bet you keep Depends handy when the little black neighbor kid walks by and you shit yer britches."

I keep my gun handy, because any Black fuck who comes and demands money from me is going to get shot if they're over waist high.  They could be hiding a knife.

I stared down a Black asshole who addressed me in aggressive tones on the street a few years ago.  I turned to look at him... hand on my gun.  I looked at him, and he looked at me.  And after a couple minutes of this, I turned and walked away.  He didn't follow.

Got our first dusting of snow for the winter. White snow is scared to stick around too long when harvest is in full swing. Funny how white snow definitely prefers its association with cold, heartless wingnut temperatures.

12:25 PM

Funny how black folks have white teeth too. Why are turds brown? Why do they have pink hands?

Why do all the Somalians move to Minnesota? To escape the snow, or the sand?

Gimme a break.

- Oh Good Grief.
- No, it doesn't "make me feel all virtuous", you pompous bag of hot air. But you come across as not being capable of understanding any feeling other than vindictive, spiteful hatred, so I don't expect you to comprehend that.
-
- The only "racial shit hitting the fan" I'm concerned about will be instigated by apoplectic people like you and your ilk, who are so steeped in paranoid hatred, so enamored with your own lust for violence, and so completely obsessed with trying to bring on a race-war, that y'all will eventually cross the line into full-blown psychosis and start shooting people willy-nilly.
-
- And no, I'm not going to waste my time reading all the way through every shard of your schizophrenically-fragmented self-aggrandizing Manifesto - IF I actually wanted to waste my time reading dreck that sounds like it was written by Charles Manson, I'd go straight to the source and wouldn't bother reading dreck by a wannabe like you.
-
- Meanwhile, when any of you perpetually-enraged nut-jobs does finally crack and tries to become the next Stephen Paddock, I just hope the cops and/or FBI can gather enough intel to launch a preemptive strike.

Overheard the following about the black corn pop:

"Thank god they got him scrubbing floors (and he can't even do a good job at that) but if he wasn't working he'd be out
stealing
killing
drugging
littering
sleeping all day
drinking
hanging out on street corners
looking for more unwed "baby mommas" to lay up on.
making more fatherless babies that they can't take care of

"No, it doesn't "make me feel all virtuous", you pompous bag of hot air."

Funny, you were awfully quick to try to use it as a rhetorical weapon against me.  Almost like it... makes you virtuous when I'm not.  IYO, of course.

You'll go on feeling virtuous until you wind up in the cannibal's pot, no doubt.  Better dead and eaten than live and "racist."

"But you come across as not being capable of understanding any feeling other than vindictive, spiteful hatred, so I don't expect you to comprehend that."

Oh, goodness, let's see about this.  I'm targeted for discrimination based on my race and sex, drastically under-represented at universities like Harvard and Yale, targeted for disemployment by government immigration and temporary worker policy, told that having a family that looks like me is perpetuating "white supremacy"... and I'm not the TARGET of vindictive, spiteful hatred, but the SOURCE?

Reversing victim and offender is a classic tactic of the Marxist left.  It turned felons into "victims of society", and now claims White nuclear families as the source of all ills.  Spiteful hatred.

"The only "racial shit hitting the fan" I'm concerned about will be instigated by apoplectic people like you and your ilk"

So things like the dozen-plus assassinations of police officers by BLM are of no concern to you.  It's only when people fight back against such vindictive, spiteful, hateful acts and those who foment them do you find it in yourself to be concerned.

"I'm not going to waste my time reading all the way through every shard of your schizophrenically-fragmented self-aggrandizing Manifesto"

Translation:  "I can't respond to a point-by-point rebuttal showing what an utter fool I am, so I'll sputter instead."

"when any of you perpetually-enraged nut-jobs does finally crack and tries to become the next Stephen Paddock"

You mention a false-flag actor who obviously isn't who the authorities say he was (the Stephen Paddock pictured alive had "13" tattooed on his neck, the alleged corpse in the hotel room did not), while ignoring Micah Xavier Johnson, Omar Mateen, Tafsheen Malik and so many others.

That's a tell.
