Transition train wreck.

The election is over and MAGA is still angry. I guess owning the libs was their only goal in life. For the life of me I can't understand where all this hate and angst is coming from. It's not like the democrats are crying foul and whining about the results. (Although, I must say, there was something mighty fishy about Elon and his behavior.) Dems won't be storming the halls of power, and crying stolen election for the next four years. They are totally fine with sitting back and watching Mr. trump make a fool of himself while he destroys the country for a second time. Just look at his cabinet picks so far. The man is clearly not a serious actor.

Honestly, have you ever seen a bunch of less qualified people being selected to hold positions of power? How can these people cry DEI when they have all  these "failing up" characters being picked by trump to be a part of his team?  Pete Hegseth?! Seriously? Forget the fact that he is a scumbag and just a horrible human being, he is also clearly not qualified to do the job. The guy wrote a book about crushing the enemy, via an "American Crusade" for crying out loud! He writes about mocking, humiliating, and intimidating the American left (the enemy) and using the military to do it. The very military that Mr. trump picked him to lead. Yikes! And don't even get me started on Tulsi Gabbard. She has praised the Russians at every turn and is a huge fan of  Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian dictator. Trump picked her to lead *checks notes* the intelligence department. I could go on, but you get the point. I'm not even going to get into Matt Gaetz, because, thankfully, his appointment was scuttled. Imagine a man being investigated for sex trafficking and having sex with a seventeen year old girl, being picked to lead the very agency that investigates such things. The guy should be sharing prison soap with Diddy, but he is a white male republican, so the same rules do not apply.

Trump feels embolden to pick these clowns based on fealty and not qualifications. He believes that he had this resounding mandate from the American people. On further review, he did not. As more election results come in, we can see that his margins are getting smaller and smaller, and he did not win a majority of the popular vote. 49.87% is not going to cut it. He won by a a couple of hundred thousand votes across key swing states, and had those totals been different we would be looking at quite a different outcome. I was guilty of overstating the level of Mr. trump's victory myself (see my previous post), and I was wrong.  Sadly, like everything else with trump, perception became a false reality.

But take heart Harris supporters, If you voted for her you should be pretty relieved and chill right now. Just sit back and enjoy the trump train roll off the tracks. The next four years will be one wreck after another. You will get to say I told you so when it's all said and done.

Let's just hope , for all our sakes, that there will be someone left to say it to.

Trump officially fires Lina Khan, replaces her with generic pro-corporate Republican hack, Andrew Ferguson to lead the Federal Trade Commission, installing a current Republican member of the agency who has promised to ease up on the policing of powerful American companies — except for the biggest technology firms. (from Lawyers, Guns and Money.) I've been expecting this. Dammit!

You just knew Lina would be the first to go. Bastards.

Hang on, I know the saying about every Republican/conservative accusation is really a confession but this might really be true. They accused the Dems of being pedos and having secret cabals but trump admitted he walked in on underage girls while they were unDressed, Matt Gaetz is accused of liking underage girls, Linda McMahon is accused of allowing young people to be abused. Uh, color me crazy but this sounds like a secret cabal of perverts and pedos. And he wants his own FBI director who will look the other way AND a Supreme Court of weirdos like Roberts who I believe dressed his adopted son in sailor outfits. I have to say to the Rothchilds or the Illuminati or whomever installed trump good job. Helluva bait and switch. Now we just need a Dem in 2028 to use the Marines to arrest and frogmarch all of the Republicans out of the capitol and send trump to Gitmo and restore sanity and law to the land. The Q anon had it right all along but were just mistaken about which side the bad guys were on.

The trashy Trump transition continues, with Voice of America to be headed up by crazy crank Kari Lake.

The irony here is huge. VOA was originally set up to promote the positive aspects of American culture to the world. Now it will showcase the epic dumbass side of America, in all its glory. It’ll probably be some typical wingnut mix of racism, religious zealotry, conspiracy theories, and ads for vitamin supplements and penis pills.

I’m surprised McConnell hasn’t announced his retirement from the Senate due to his obvious health problems. Or, if he’s not going to retire (he’s got two more years in his current term), that hasn’t moved to using a wheelchair. He’s fallen down several times already, and those are just the ones we know about.

His spokespeople have given this as the explanation for his falls and his “freezing” episodes, but it seems likely there is something else wrong with him that he has not wanted to disclose, because he has not publicly exhibited these debilitating symptoms until recently. Maybe a neurological condition?

Anyway, I’d be worried for him if I actually liked him. But he’s a lowdown snake, and the only nice thing I can find to say about him is that he’s not quite as bad as Team Trump — but then, few people are.

The subject of one of Krugman’s first blogs was inevitable:

Will Trump Be Called On His Inflation Lie?

Trump got re-elected on the back of an inflation spike, a crime spike, and a spike in the number of bogus asylum-seekers. All of which are now already over, and all of which Trump lied about.

Assuming we actually have any legitimate future elections — uncertain, at this point — the only political question that matters is “Why are so many Americans dumb enough to believe Trump’s lies?”

If inflation spikes again, this time because a president really DID cause it by enacting massive tariffs, that will be pretty hard to ignore.

But do I have any confidence that idiots wouldn’t find some way to blame someone other than Trump. No. Like, maybe it will be other countries’ fault for not just absorbing the tariffs without complaint and not raising prices, like Trump swore they would, the big foreign meanies. To paraphrase Kanye, why won’t they let us be great?

Or maybe inflation will be the fault of Black Lives Matter? Or of Drag Queen Story Hour?

Who even knows? Nothing has to make sense anymore. 2 + 2 = 5.

This bizarre drone panic feels a lot like the earlier Chinese balloon panic. People are bugging out, even though there’s zero evidence to support the idea that the actual drones are dangerous in any way. (And at this point, paranoiacs are misidentifying planes as drones.)

They don’t appear to be weaponized drones. There’s been no connection been made between the drones and a foreign government or a terrorist group. For all we know, it’s just a bunch of hobbyists flying these drones. So why the hair-on-fire hysteria?

This is just more proof that we are a country with screwed-up priorities. Many people are blasé about the extremely serious dangers of climate change or global pandemics, but when you ask them what we do need to worry about, it’s “oh no, immigrants!” or “oh no, drag queens!”

And now, “oh no, drones!”

The cost of propaganda to ordinary citizens:

Many Hurricane Victims Not Applying for FEMA Aid

December 16, 2024 at 7:25 am EST By Taegan Goddard 40 Comments

Washington Post: “Only about 15 percent of households in the affected region have applied to the agency for individual and household assistance, according to a Post analysis of months of FEMA data up to the second week of December.”

“It’s a low number, three independent experts and a FEMA official said, given how many people are in need. It’s far less than Georgia and South Carolina, states that sustained comparatively less damage, but where about twice as many households have applied.”

“Rampant misinformation and conspiracy theories early on about FEMA’s motives and plans inflamed a long-existing skepticism about government here. That, combined with a federal response that has been trying to navigate complex logistics in a region that is not used to big disasters, is threatening people’s chance to get critical help and, ultimately, the state’s ability to rebuild.”

“Democrats should demand presidential pardon reform in exchange for the higher number of their votes that will now be required under suspension of the rules to avoid a government shutdown during the Christmas holiday.”

I'm pretty skeptical this would be any use at all. Short of a constitutional amendment, I don’t think anything will constrain Trump’s use of pardons.

He’ll just appeal to his faithful servants on the Supreme Court, and they’ll officially rule that the Constitution says Trump can do whatever he wants with pardons and Congress can’t rein him in. I lost all faith in SCOTUS when they decided presidents have immunity to just break the law.

At this point, I don’t think legislation is going to be the answer to much of anything. Democracy has failed, or is on the verge of doing so. The Democrats should be organizing people to commit mass, coast-to-coast civil disobedience and grind the country to a halt if Trump does anything dictatorial.

The house has passed a CR to fund the government until March, without a debt ceiling waiver or any other Republican bullshit.
The goddamn Republicans do this every fucking time: they make a basic function of the congress into a news story by threatening to (shut down the government, blow up the credit of the government, any other atrocity they can use as a hostage) until the last hours and then grudgingly do their damn jobs with help from the Democrats, because they literally can't do it themselves, despite having control of the chamber. Elmo doesn't know what the fuck he's doing as evidenced by the fact that he was advocating shutting down the park service ahead of Fergus' inauguration. Well let's go back a few years. REMEMBER: They rewarded "that other one" 2 terms in office and in return "that other one" delivered to them a 20 year war with the wrong country, and a stock market crash disabling millions of working class Americans. And then, the victims prayed for and were delivered a "Black Messiah" to clean up their mess and save them from themselves. And after he cleaned up their mess, (including giving them a much needed Affordable Care Act (yes, Obama Care) to help keep working class Americans from liquidating their assets and selling their homes if they ever got sick and didn't have health insurance), and he also delivered a host of other things to help women and the entire working class community in America. But as usual, after he cleaned up their mess, they went back to 400 years of what they have been systematically taught and brainwashed to do. Isn't it interesting how a smokescreen is kept in place to keep them ignorant. After all, one of " you know who's" supporters recently said the following on camera during an interview:
" ...Maybe it's time for America to have a dictator." WTF! Just ask any of the millions who came to America to escape a dictator in their own country if ANY country is ready or better off with a dictator!!!!!
