Quack!

Let me say for the record right now; the Duck Dynasty dude probably should have not been suspended. He is on that network and pulling ratings because he is an ignorant redneck, so to suspend him reeks of Inspector Louis Renault from Casablanca. What kind of enlightened pearls of wisdom do you think would come out of the mouth of a guy like that?

Still, having said that, I find it rather amusing and somewhat interesting that he was suspended for his ignorant and despicable comments about Gays, but all we hear are crickets when it comes to his statements about black folks down in Louisiana.

 "..never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson is quoted in GQ. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.” [Source]

Nope, they weren't happy. Mrs. Field's dear granddaddy (may his soul rest in peace) told me so.

Maybe these comments about black folks aren't getting a rise out of folks because quite a few people in the majority population agree with him.

But I can assure you that there was nothing to be happy about in pre- civil rights and Jim Crow Louisiana.

Do you see where Phil is going? He lumps in "entitlement" and "welfare" with civil rights. Nice.

Of course, as is to be expected, this has started a culture war. Sarah Palin and her peeps over at Fox News are supporting the Duck man. (An ignorant bigot will get their support every time.) They think that he is being unfairly treated for speaking his mind. But these same people wanted Martin Bashir fired for speaking his mind about Sarah Palin.  Go figure.

Unbelievably, the governor of the state of Louisiana is supporting the Duck Man as well. I wonder how the blacks in his state feel about that.

Anyway, here comes the NAACP letter:

"We want to be clear why Phil Robertson’s remarks are not just dangerous but also inaccurate. Mr. Robertson claims that, from what he saw, African Americans were happier under Jim Crow. What he didn’t see were lynching and beatings of black men and women for attempting to vote or simply walking down the street"

Yes, but at least they had music.









 



 

MSNBC OR BET?

It looks like MSNBC is the new BET. You Negroes are starting to watch MSNBC in droves. (Tamron Hall is on MSNBC, so the field watches as well.) The good news is, of course, that it's a cable news channel, so maybe you Negroes will stay on top of current events.

And then there is FOX News; you Negroes sure hate FOX News.

"In that same time period, CNN grew its black audience by 23.7%(from 131,000 in 2011 to 162,000 in 2012, 23.9% of their total audience) , while Fox News’ declined by 23.7% (38,000 in 2011 to 29,000 in 2012, 1.4% of their total audience), but MSNBC had more black viewers than both of those nets combined (from 177,000 in 2011 to 284,000 in 2012, 31.4% of their total audience). What’s more impressive is that MSNBC attained 60% growth after being number one in that demographic last year, and the year before."

I can't say that I blame you Negroes for hating FOX.I mean they sure don't like you.

But the FOX people, to their credit, are smart. They have tapped into a huge segment of the American population. Is anyone surprised that FOX is usually number one in the cable news wars?

I bet the people who have been sending Jemele Hill racist letters are FOX viewers.

"ESPN Columnist Jemele Hill shared an alarming letter with her Twitter followers Friday, which she reportedly received after having made multiple appearances on sports radio show “The Herd” last year, according to the Grio.

In the letter (pictured), the disgruntled viewer refers to Hill as a “b*tch jungle bunny,” “spear-chucker,” and implores ESPN to terminate her “before she back slides into some ebonics-laden inarticulate mumbo-jumbo tirade.” To top things off, the anonymous man reveals he’s “not interested in spending all day listening to some thick-lipped gorilla attempting to properly speak the King’s English.”

Hill took the letter in stride on her Twitter account, commending the viewer for being racist without using the N-word. All in a day’s work for someone used to slurs frequently coming her way as a Black female covering sports.
“I get these types of letters every day,” she tweeted Adena Andrews, a writer for ESPNW. And there’s the show of support from colleagues in the journalism world to help. [Source]

Black v. Brown, a republican's dream.

It's one of the oldest political tricks in the book: divide and conquer. And Ann Coulter, bless her tortured soul, has been doing her best to put it into action.

Ann is known for her provocative comments, and this time she figured she would try to put a wedge between two of the democratic party's most loyal constituent groups.

"During the "This Week" roundtable's discussion of the politics of immigration reform and the Latino vote, conservative commentator Ann Coulter made the provocative claim that "Democrats are dropping the blacks and moving on to the Hispanics," while arguing that immigrant rights should not be considered civil rights."
 
This of course is how you weaken the brown coalition; get black folks and Hispanics fighting over the left over crumbs that have been given to them from the American pie.

Ann has a special place in her heart for the American Negro. She has previously declared that they are her Negroes.

"That's why the Democrats are dropping the blacks and moving on to the Hispanics," seeming to claim that Democrats are more aggressively courting the Latino vote than the African American vote, which polls show is firmly behind President Obama.

Coulter, author of the new book "Mugged: Racial Demagoguery From the Seventies to Obama," also argued that groups on the left, from feminists to gay rights groups to those defending immigrants, have commandeered the black civil rights experience.

"I think what - the way liberals have treated blacks like children and many of their policies have been harmful to blacks, at least they got the beneficiary group right," Coulter said. "There is the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow laws. We don't owe the homeless. We don't owe feminists. We don't owe women who are desirous of having abortions, but that's - or - or gays who want to get married to one another. That's what civil rights has become for much of the left."

When asked whether immigrant rights were not civil rights, Coulter responded, "No. I think civil rights are for blacks… What have we done to the immigrants? We owe black people something. We have a legacy of slavery. Immigrants haven't even been in this country." [Source]

Unfortunately, I suspect that a lot of black folks agree with Mrs. Coulter. There is not a lot of love between some black folks and Hispanics, who they feel-- and rightfully so-- can be just as racist and ignorant as the folks in the majority population. It's a fragile coalition, and it has been brought together because of the injustice reaped on each group --in one way or the other-- by some in the majority population who views them both in the same disdainful way.

Still, I find some of Ms. Coulter's comments to be interesting and true. But I think some of her conservative friends would strongly disagree with her. To them, America owes the Negro nothing. Her comment that "we owe blacks something"  might cause some eyebrows to be raised  in wingnutville.

Ann is a loose cannon, and when loose cannons fire there is no telling where the cannonball will drop.

Finally, WTF is wrong with the po po in Houston?

"A Houston police officer shot and killed a schizophrenic, wheelchair-bound double amputee threatening people with a pen at a group home for the mentally ill after authorities said the man advanced on the officer's partner.

The shooting occurred early Saturday morning after police responded to a call that resident Brian Claunch was acting aggressively after his caretaker refused to give him a cigarette and a soda, the owner of the home and police said."

 

"But field, the officers were in fear of their lives. Read the rest of the story." 

 

"The officers made verbal commands for the suspect to drop whatever he had in his hand, to stay still and to speak with the officers, but the suspect continued to make threats," Jodi Silva, a police spokeswoman, told CNN affiliate KTRK in Houston.

 

Claunch, who lost an arm and a leg in a train accident, trapped one of the officers with his wheelchair in the corner of a room and attempted to stab the officer with an object that turned out to be a pen.

 

Officer Matt Marin, "in fear of the safety of his partner and the safety of himself, discharges his duty weapon, striking the suspect," Silva said.

 

Marin shot Claunch once. He died at the scene, according to investigators." [Source]

He is just trying to make the "bluh" people's lives a little better.

"Well, you, you have to have someone you can work with, and this president has done more to divide than any other president that I've ever witnessed in my lifetime. This president goes out and gives speech after speech after speech trying to divide America between class, between income group, between racial and ethnic groups."

Rick ( I should be in a) Sanitarium told John King that he is pretty sure that he didn't use the word black when speaking to his white friends in Iowa. He says that he started saying something and in mid sentence it "changed" and something else came out. (I wonder why the change?)

 “I looked at that [video] and I didn’t say that,” the candidate asserted. “What I started to say was a word and then it sort of changed and ‘bluh’ came out. And people said I said ‘black’ and I didn’t.”

"We won't make "bluh" people's lives better with welfare"? I don't want to give welfare to blah people? Blue people, maybe?

Well I listened to Rick's speech in its entirety, and I really have to wonder who is the "they" and "them" that he kept referring to. There just aren't too many blue and blah people running around these days.

My friend Marc Morial isn't please, and he represents dem professional black folks from the Urban League.

"Senator Santorum is perpetuating a thoroughly false and destructive racial stereotype in a desperate attempt to score political points," Morial said in a statement released Tuesday. "He is appealing to the lowest common denominator within the electorate and quite frankly should be ashamed of himself." [Source]

Come on now Marc, why are you surprised? I know that Rick worked with you and your organization on a couple of occasions, but you should know by now that this is what republican politicians do; they play the majority against those evil minorities who want to take what they (the majority) have. 

“We looked at it and it is a little blurry,” O’Reilly explained. “I’m going to take you on your word.”

“I don’t use the term ‘black’ very often,” Santorum insisted. “I use the term ‘African American’ more than I use ‘black.’ And I as someone who did more work for historically black colleges, I used to — every year I used to bring all the historically black colleges into Washington, D.C. to try to help them.”

“You don’t have to convince me, senator,” O’Reilly replied. “I don’t think you’re a bigot.” [Source]

Maybe not a bigot Senator, just a despicable politician who will do anything for power.

Speaking of despicable politicians, I see that Newt has also jumped on the bash black parade.

"Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said today he is willing to go before the NAACP and urge blacks to demand paychecks, not food stamps.
Gingrich told a town hall meeting at a senior center in Plymouth, N.H., that if the NAACP invites him to its annual convention this year, he'd go there and talk about "why the African-American community should demand paychecks and not be satisfied with food stamps."

Newt, I am thankful that the government doesn't have to give you food stamps, if it did, I am sure that we wouldn't have enough money to do anything else.



 





 

Now it makes sense.

Well, there you have it. Another reason not to go with the O man's health care plan. I was wondering what all this passion on the right was all about, now......well, let's just say some of it makes a lot more sense now.

Sometimes you have to go to these sites to see what these folks are thinking. (Check out what some cretin named LA writes in the comments.) The beauty of the Internet is that folks always feel free to talk to each other as if they are in their own homes. And then, of course, folks like us get to take a peek inside of their world. And what a world it is.

Back from the barbecues.

So I went to a couple of barbecues today. The earlier one was in a part of Philly known as Logan. Working class, blue collar, black neighborhood (you folks from Philly know where I am talking about), and I had a blast. The music and the food was good, the people were genuine, and when I had to leave to head out to our next stop, I didn't want to go.

But leave I did. Mrs. Field was pinching my arm so we headed to another barbecue out in a fairly affluent area of the burbs known as Newtown. (You folks from Philly might know that area as well) Now, as you might expect, I didn't have quite as much fun. The people...well, they weren't as much fun, the food wasn't quite as good, and I didn't hear any music. Still, I have to admit, I had a decent time there too.

But that's not what I want to post about. I actually want to ask you smart folks who read and comment on this blog, your opinion about something.

There was a black couple at the barbecue we visited who are fairly affluent themselves, and they live in a predominantly white area. Their son, a very handsome kid, is going into his sophomore year in high school. He is on the tennis team (the kid can hit em. I played with him when he was twelve, and he was wearing me out then), and I am pretty sure that he will make the varsity baseball team as well. To top it off, he makes good grades, and he is very popular in his school.

Now here is the problem; at least more so for his Mother than his dad. All of his friends, including his little girlfriends, are white. His parents told us that before they left to come to the barbecue, the kid headed out with a car full of little white girls. And his Mom was not pleased about it. Not because, she said, his little playmates were white, but because, according to her, she knows what can happen in situations like that.

Now honestly, the kid's father and I didn't have a real problem with him going out with his friends and having a good time on the fourth. The kid is popular in his school, and he is going to attract girls, black and white. Problem is, at his school, there aren't many black girls (or boys for that matter) for him to interact with. Hey, the kid is a product of his environment. And it's not the first time that I have heard this kind of lament from black folks who have moved to the burbs and have a problem with their kids interacting with only white kids. It happens all the time. But is it such a bad thing? As long as they get the proper cultural indoctrination that they need at home and from their family, should his black parents even make an issue of it?

Now I understand Mom's concerns, I honestly do. I mean you hear all these stories about the black kid in the group getting singled out. all the time. But you can't stifle the kid and tell him not to have fun with his friends, whoever they might be. You can't tell your kid to be intolerant of other kids because they are white, just because your experiences say things aren't always what they seem. Or can you? I don't know, I am not a parent, so i really don't know what I would do. he kids is a teenager, you made a choice to live where you do, you can't now tell the kid who to choose as his friends. At least I don't think you can.....

I don't know, which is why I am putting it out there (I told his father that I would, so it's all good). Mrs. Field understands Mom's concerns, and we debated tha...okay we argued about that shit all the way home. Somehow it went from a discussion about race and parenting to women and out of control testosterone's. Needless to say, I ended that bad boy [the debate] as soon as possible. I told her she was right ("I know I am she said"), acknowledged that maybe I would be concerned about my son too, and headed to my computer.

The Elephant In The Room

Now that the All American Boy is gaining some traction among the republican presidential contenders, I think it's time the field talked turkey with you about the square jawed one.

Mitt Romney is trying to run his campaign as the real conservative in the republican primary. A modern day Ronald Reagan if you will. He has been moving farther and farther to the right ever since he declared his candidacy. Slick Mitt has made a smart calculating move to get the support of those hard core republican voters who usually turn out for the primaries, and then flip flop his way back to the middle for the general election. Hey, the boy didn't go to Harvard for nothing.

But did I say flip flop? Yes Mitt is somewhat of a flip flopper. I mean he was for abortion, before he needed the conservative vote and became against it. He was for gun control, before he found the NRA and now he is against that as well. He wanted folks to know that he was so pro guns, so much so that he even lied about being a lifetime hunter. He was Governor of the bluest of blue states, Massachusetts, and to hear him tell it, he hated every minute of having to govern those bleeding heart liberals. What a phony!

But hey, all politicians are phonies and they all lie to get what the want. And if you think about it, Mitt, with his perfect pearly whites, his straight out of central casting presidential gait and demeanor, and his phony one line talking points on the stump, is just what an inattentive intellectually challenged nation is yearning for. Please don't bore us with the minutia, just say a few nice words, and look good while you are doing it. The policy crap will come later. We will surround you with really smart people and they will feed you with everything you need to know. Kind of like we did with Reagan. That worked out pretty good didn't it? At least if you are a right wing republican it did. So because I am used to this, Mitt's flip flopping doesn't even phase me as much as you might think.

But here is where I point to the elephant (no pun intended) in the room. And here is what bothers me about old Mitt. Mitt Romney is a Mormon, and has been all his life. He is from a Mormon family, and he is sixty damn years old. "Oh field what are you saying? Careful with the religious bigotry" What I am saying is this: Mormons miraculously had this great vision and decided to allow black folks to become priests in their church in 1978. 1978! I didn't say 1878, I said 1978! So what the f**k could Mitt Romney possibly tell me to make me believe that he really thinks that all of us are equal? Oh, I don't know, maybe he could say this: "We are generous with the Negro, we are willing that the Negro have the highest education. I would be willing to let every Negro drive a Cadillac [you got em now Mr. Mormon 'Apostle'] If they could afford it...but let them enjoy this among themselves"~ "Apostle" ~Mark E. Peterson~. I mean that is what his fellow Mormon apostle said at the great Mormon University (BYU) no less. I am guessing that was a pretty accurate summation of the views of most Mormons at the time. Sorry Mitt, too much history with your church and my peeps, here is one field Negro that would never vote for your ass.

So I am not feeling the whole we have changed and now we all of a sudden love black people thing. I know you guys are really trying to change your image. Hell, you even have a black LDS web site. But at the end of the day..."The Negroes are not equal with other races, where the receipt of certain spiritual beliefs are concerned..it is the Lord's doing". ~LDS "Apostle Bruce R. McConkie~No, it is the Mormons' doing not the Lords. But it is easy for a religion that long held that blacks were "Satan's manifestation on earth" to hold those types of views. "Through their indifference or lack of integrity or righteousness blacks rendered themselves unworthy of the Priesthood and it's powers"~ LDS Historian B.H. Roberts~~ Yeah OK Mr. Roberts, I sure am glad you found us worthy in 1978. I don't know what we would have done if we weren't found worthy. I hope it helped your church to go main stream at least.

Now don't get it twisted, this is not about bashing the Latter Day Saints (LDS). Hey, I grew up a Seventh Day Adventist, so I know what it's like to have others view your religion as a cult or with scepticism. Every one who reads this blog know exactly how I feel about religion in general, and an individuals right to worship and believe or not to believe whatever he or she wants. Frankly, the Mormons could still be excluding black folks from their Priesthood, and have an all out ban on Negroes ever going to Utah, and I really could case less. But when a life long member of a religion that discriminated against my people until 1978 says he wants to lead 35 million of us as our President, well then Houston, (or should I say Utah) we have a problem. Especially when he claims to be a man of faith. Faith in what or in who? Brigham Young? The same Brigham Young who wrote in his "Journal of Discourse' this little gem? "Will the present struggle of the Civil War free the slave? No. Can you destroy the decrees of the almighty? You cannot". Well sorry Mr. Young; I am free, and I can vote, and I won't be voting for your boy Mitt.

I know many of you reading this will say: Damn field it's the man's religion. Yeah, well it's my race. And why should I believe that a man who flip flops about every damn thing to achieve a personal goal wouldn't lie about how he really feels about black folks? (1978). "Yeah but field the Mormons do good things they have missionaries who go to Africa and in the hood, they believe in service". Yeah well good for them, and I hope they keep doing good things, but I don't want this Mormon as my Commander in Chief. I see he did his missionary service in France. (How convenient, it also got him a deferment from Vietnam ) Hey, somebody had to feed all those poor starving people in Paris. Sorry, the more I think about Mitt, the more I hope and pray that he doesn't ever see the White House. The scary thing is, with al due respect to Reverend Al, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that he will win. Think about it; who do you think America wants? The guy from central casting, or some black guy with a terrorist name and smart ass lady with feminist streak? If you picked Mitt the Mormon move to the head of the class.
