BWB

Image result for atm images  And now field hands,  I bring you banking while black. (BWB)

"Activists are planning to protest outside a Citibank this afternoon after video of a black teenager being forcibly detained by D.C. police officers was shared widely, spurred by the hashtag #JusticeforJason.

The friend who filmed the encounter tweeted that: "We where approached because a white couple felt uncomfortable around me and my friend in the bank , this is how the police responded."

Organizer Erika Totten says the man in the video is an 18-year-old that she previously taught English literature. "He's just one of the sweetest children that I’ve ever had the honor of teaching," she said. "Someone said they were scared. Because of his skin. Because he’s a black boy."

Ultimately, according to Totten, the teen wasn't charged with anything after the incident, in which he can be heard screaming in pain on the ground."

See video here.

Are black folks overreacting? Or, given all that has transpired of late, is our angst justified?

Finally, if I can stay awake long enough I will be watching and live- tweeting the dems debate tonight.

I know that there will be Hillary and that Bernie dude on stage, but honestly, I am not sure who else is in it. Poor CNN.

They are trying their best to hype it up, but there is no Donald Trump around to give us all a few good laughs. And we know where all the candidates stand on various issues by now. Unless Bernie or one of the other candidates have a moment, it will be debate business as usual.

Sadly, this is like ESPN trying to promote a soccer match between the USA and Antigua. There is just no reason to watch.

About two months ago, I was outside of Martin's Foods at around 3am. easier to shop that late. However, the ATM was out of order in the store, and you can only get $100 cash-back on the register, so I walked across the street to the bank. Just using the machine and minding my own business, here come two police cars, stopping me and questioning me for 30 minutes because they had reports of someone suspiciously lurking around the machine in front of the bank after hours.

Man, #WhiteLivesMatter! :( I know this was only 'cause I'm white. What possible other reason could there have been, if not my skin color?

C'mon, Lilac. You got my back on this? Let me borrow some of that sound logic, like police intentionally missing the target at which they're firing if the target is white. I mean, for reals. Average white guys can't use the ATM these days? Somebody get me Albert Sharpberg's number.

I am a black man in my mid-30's, and I have experienced this type of harrisment. I shop at Wholefoods to feed my nine children Da'Quan, Sha'Quan, Na'Quan, Le-Tasha, Le-Dasha, Kinshasa, O'Marion, Contrarian and Lil' Barack. It is hard making ends meet, but since my wife Tay-Tay and I get bennies for nine kids, we make do.

Last Tuesday we were buying groseries for our kids and our EBT card was a bit short; our bill was $853.79, and we only had $834.06 in our account. The cashier told me we didn't have enough, and Tay-Tay, due to a lifetime of oppression from white folks, spat in the cashier's face. The security guard immediately came over to see what the fuss was about, and naturally I knocked his old ass the fuck out. It was quite a scene; cops came and everything. Can you imagine how imbarassed we were? Racist crackers ... the nerve!

It's alright, though; the fine attornies at Birnbaum, Epstein and Lipshitz are helping us to work this matter out. We are seeking five million in damages for mental anguish and denial of service due to skin color. I think we will be just fine.

It's the same answer as for about half the bad things in the U.S: because of wingnuts. The free-market fetish that pervades the U.S. means we've got very little regulation of businesses as compared to other industrialized countries.

Conservatives keep telling us this will "unleash" more competition and better/cheaper services. However, all too often, the exact opposite occurs. If anti-trust regulations are not enforced, as is usually the case, industries typically undergo a series of corporate mergers and end up dominated by only a handful of gigantic corporations (*cough* comcast *cough* at&t *cough*). As a result, competition is severely reduced.

If there isn't much competition, then those gigantic, quasi-monopolistic corporations have little incentive to make infrastructure investments to attract customers, and also little incentive to keep their prices low.

Consequently, the U.S. has pretty lousy Internet data rates in many places, as compared to Europe and Asia, and we're getting charged rip-off rates for the service. The inferiority of our services is rather ironic, given that the U.S. invented the goddamn Internet.

Of course, the government could force the telecoms to upgrade their network infrastructure by enacting an appropriate mandate, but we won't do that either because, once again, conservatives think the government making corporations do anything is an abomination.

"I think I got it! Man those guys aren't fooling around with Clinton! She's getting it from all sides!"

Of course. She's the front runner (although Bernie Sanders has done far better than anyone expected him to). So, naturally, any primary debate is going to be the "Beat Up Hillary" show.

I would say the same thing for Trump and the rest of the Republican field -- except that it isn't true in that case, due to Trump's uncanny capacity to be a way bigger asshole than anyone else in the room. (And this is really saying something, too, when the Republican field includes epic bastards like Ted Cruz and Chris Christie and Mike Huckabee. Hell, I think if I were forced to spend five minutes with the loathsome Ted Cruz, I would have no choice but to punch him in his smarmy face.)

Did I literally just read someone making the case that a larger progressive government is needed to lower prices on things?

Man. There is nothing that an Internet rant could do possibly that an education couldn't. And if folks didn't learn economics in school, it's highly unlikely they'd learn it online.

Artificial pricing controls, as in government forcing companies to charge X or Y for A and B, are things that never get past the classroom dreamer level for a reason. Hell, get yourself a computer model and try to create an economy that runs that way, even controlling for multiple variables with code. See how long it lasts, how much competition arises, and how hands-on a government must become in controlling every industry and in picking winners and losers. Basically, a conservative stimulus package x1,000. Businesses don't exist in a vacuum. They are part of an economy. If you artificiality tamper with A, you must tamper with B-Z.9x to control across the board the tampering done with A. If not, the probably outcome is that, very quickly, natural market economics are going to crush that artificial tampering, so it doesn't make sense to rig one area without rigging all areas, which would mean PC's socialism-only-controlled-by-his-betters wet dream. Like John Turturro said: "You can't make one guy take a dive without fixing the other guy. It's illogical" paraphrased. There are too many variables with which to contend, so pricing controls would necessarily have to be a single prong in a pegboard of mass-effect artificial tampering.

Ironically, those gigantic, quasi-monopolistic companies offer the cheapest prices on things around, and they employ people who otherwise could not be employed by industries requiring skill, experience, high IQs, discipline, etc. And they provide opportunities other than being a sex slave for struggling third-world nations; you know, those places where America does food drops and sends doctors and the rest of the uppity world, as high and mighty as they are, pretends they don't exist. Like my ex-gf, a Scouser, used to say: "Whaddaya call a black guy in England?" I dunno. What? "Wait...there are black guys in England?"

Anonymous said...

Don't worry Pilot I won't! :) but, Yup I think the "no" took the night also!

Bernie Sanders has a lot of good ideas, but Unfortunately, I think he's just a leeeetle bit too old for such a job.

@ Josh

I didn't mention anything about "price fixing."

"Ironically, those gigantic, quasi-monopolistic companies offer the cheapest prices on things around, and they employ people who otherwise could not be employed by industries requiring skill, experience, high IQs, discipline, etc."

Nope. They don't. You can insist all you want that America's wonderful free-market attitudes are producing the best result. But they aren't in many instances. The evidence in the telecom industry speaks for itself.

"According to a recent study by Ookla Speedtest, the U.S. ranks a shocking 31st in the world in terms of average download speeds. The leaders in the world are Hong Kong at 72.49 Mbps and Singapore on 58.84 Mbps. And America? Averaging speeds of 20.77 Mbps, it falls behind countries like Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Uruguay."

Pricing for Internet in the U.S. is also way worse than in most other industrialized countries as well.

You can rant and rave all you want about how you think economic systems ought to work. Reality is not required to agree with your fantasies.

So, in none of that are you saying that government needs to enforce pricing controls to keep prices down, relative to other countries? You just want government to-- hell, I dunno. If it's not controlling prices, I don't get what you expect.

"Nope. They don't. You can insist all you want that America's wonderful free-market attitudes are producing the best result.

I've personally never bought boxers, t-shirts, groceries or medicine from Comcast. But if the only hang-up you have is that relatively new industries are earning huge profits by over-charging for products that are in incredible demand across the nation, e.g. Internet and cable HD TV, then I'd say you have a low list of issues.

I remember back about, oh, had to be a dozen years ago now, I went to the store, K-Mart, to buy a DVD player. Fucking thing was $200 and change, for a basic player! Last week, I ran into one at Walmart while looking for a thumb drive: Blu-Ray compatible, MP3 hook-up, came with its own HDMI cable -- $14.99.

And if anyone still uses CDs, they're dirt cheap. And, you know, since PS4 has been out, you can get a PS3 for over $100 cheaper, and a PS2 for under $100.

Sheesh. I wonder what government did to force them to drop the price that much! lol

Not to change subjects... did you all see my homeboys Mike Vick and Mike Tomlin (both from Newport News, Va) last night in that epic ending to the Monday Night Football game. All during the telecast the announcer was very critical of Mike Vick- which may have been justified had not MV was on a short leash by the coaches desire to not place him in danger.... albeit having no replacement of his game horned skills. When the game came down to "money time" he was released from his leash (get it-dog's analogy) and showed he still has a spark left in his old battered body. I was glad that the announcer was shut up by MV's display of intelligence and moxie.... two terms that are never applied to Black QBs.

Save the comments about his past' especially due to America's love affair with cock-fighting, hunting(killing) for the sport of it, and all the wars that we are inundated with daily. And yes, I am a dog person. Have had dogs ALL my life.

The elections are a long way off and I hope Sen. Bernie can muster the energy to fight Father Time. For his plans to work, there must be a massive overthrow of the way we are led. His agenda require so many people to do the right things. Sanders-Webb 2016.

The education plan of Mrs. Clinton maintains the status-quo. Just refinancing your loans will still require a major chunk of your disposable income to be gone. They all seem connected with the common man. But you know and I know this is what politicians do.

So far the Democratic group running will share the same skin color of the people that they need to work with.... unlike Prez Obama who only wanted "why can't we get along?"

Go with what ya know, buddy.

Even still, my idiot ass is really, really asking Mr. Anon #815 what government did there to drop prices since, according to him, it has to be government that did it and couldn't possibly be the free market innovating and getting away from CDs and DVDs as the hot-ticket item. I mean, prices, according to Mr. Anon, just rise as companies merge, and it takes government regulation to institute fairness. Apparently as they've done in so many other countries. So, what did government do to drop that DVD player to $14.99? I don't expect an answer, but I'll check back...
