Dr. Ben's remedy.

"I want to plant in people's minds what to do in a situation like this. Because unfortunately this is probably not going to be the last time this happens," he told CBS. Earlier, Carson had said that if he had been present at the Oregon attack, he would "not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say, 'Hey guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can't get us all.'"

????????

No words.

Anyway, keep in mind that this man is polling number two in the republican primary race for president.

Still, apparently Dr.Ben feels that he can speak this way about this issue because he has had his own personal experience to call on.

"Carson also told to SiriusXM radio host Karen Hunter on Wednesday that he was once held at gunpoint at a Popeye's fried chicken fast food restaurant in Baltimore. But his approach was nothing like the one he advocated.

"Guy comes in, puts the gun in my ribs. And I just said, "I believe that you want the guy behind the counter,'" Carson recounted in his usual, laid-back tone. "He said, 'Oh, okay,' and moved on."

First of all Dr. Ben, what the hell are you doing at Popeye's? As a physician,you,of all people,  should know that fried foods are not good for you.

Honestly, the guy holding the gun on Dr. Ben probably fell asleep when the good doctor started talking. When he (the robber) said, "Oh okay",  he was just waking up.

Serious question: Why can't the republican party recruit a serious African American candidate to represent them on the national stage? (Colin Powell where are you?) First Herman Cain and now this guy. It's embarrassing.

Finally, speaking of republican presidential candidates. Now that you can get around South Carolina easier in a boat than you can a car, their senior senator is asking for federal aid.

It's funny how that works. You should never turn your back on others because one day you might be in the same boat. (No pun intended.)

Lindsey Graham thought that it was cool to play politics and vote against Sandy storm relief  for the people in New Jersey. Now his decision is coming back to haunt him, and he swears that he doesn't remember ever voting against getting the people of New Jersey federal funds.

Lindsey, maybe this will help refresh your memory:

"South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham is seeking federal aid after his home state was ravaged by deadly floods amid historic rainfall triggered by Hurricane Joaquin.
“Let’s just get through this thing,” Graham said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room” Monday. “And whatever it costs, it costs.”
But in 2013, Graham was among 36 Senate Republicans who voted against giving similar aid to New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. (The bill passed in a 62 to 36 vote.)
Graham told Blitzer he didn’t remember opposing the $50.5 billion Sandy relief bill.
“I’m all for helping the people in New Jersey. I don’t really remember me voting that way,” Graham said. “I don’t really recall that, but I’d be glad to look and tell you why I did vote no, if I did.”
Graham wasn’t the only 2016 presidential candidate to oppose Sandy relief. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz also voted against the package.
“Hurricane Sandy inflicted devastating damage on the East Coast, and Congress appropriately responded with hurricane relief. Unfortunately, cynical politicians in Washington could not resist loading up this relief bill with billions in new spending utterly unrelated to Sandy,” Cruz told the Houston Chronicle at the time. “This bill is symptomatic of a larger problem in Washington — an addiction to spending money we do not have. The United States Senate should not be in the business of exploiting victims of natural disasters.” [Source]
And check out the words of Ted Cruz quoted above.
Well, as it turns out, he has a problem as well.
"But as floodwaters raged in Texas earlier this year, Cruz praised the federal support his state was receiving.
“We’re seeing cooperation from state government, the local government and the federal government all standing together at a time of great challenge,” Cruz said".
On second thought, I think that Dr. Ben will do just fine in the republican primary.

Colin makes a pick and Sarah is still "shucking and jivin".

“Not only am I not comfortable with what Governor Romney is proposing for his economic plan, I have concerns about his views on foreign policy,” Powell said during an appearance on “CBS This Morning” — adding that the Republican nominee had “some very, very strong neo-conservative views” and describing Romney’s foreign policy vision as a “moving target”.

This is interesting. Is it just a case of you Negroes sticking together? Or is it a Bushite hating on Romney thing? Naw, that couldn't be it; didn't Condi endorse  Mitt?

Anyway, it seems that this election is breaking down along racial lines. Colin is supposed to be "post racial" so maybe his endorsement will bring some of those other folks over to O's side. O, No matter what these Negroes tell you, you can't beat Flipper without the white vote. (Obama is trailing Romney by 33% for the white male vote.) White folks still make up about 75% of people who will actually vote in this country. Most of these Negroes will not be voting come election day. They will have other things to do, such as watch television and shop for clothes.

Finally, Sarah Palin took offense to folks saying that her "shuck and jive" statement about the president was racist. She actually used a variation of the "some of my best friends are black, meme".

 "For the record, there was nothing remotely racist in my use of the phrase “shuck and jive” – a phrase which many people have used, including Chris Matthews, Andrew Cuomo, and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to name a few off the top of my head. In fact, Andrew Cuomo also used the phrase in reference to Barack Obama, and the fact that Mr. Cuomo and I used the phrase in relation to President Obama signifies nothing out of the ordinary. I would have used the exact same expression if I had been writing about President Carter, whose foreign policy rivaled Obama’s in its ineptitude, or about the Nixon administration, which was also famously rocked by a cover-up.
I’ve been known to use the phrase most often when chastising my daughter Piper to stop procrastinating and do her homework. As she is part Yup’ik Eskimo, I’m not sure if this term would be deemed offensive when it’s directed at her or if it would be considered benign as in the case of Chris Matthews’ use of it in reference to Rachel Maddow." [Source]

So there you have it. Sarah's daughter is part Eskimo and she uses the phrase to her. So of course that makes it alright to use the same offensive phrase when speaking about the black guy in the White House.

That, my friends, is called wingnut logic.

Will republicans call for their "drop squad" to get Colin?

I just saw Colin Powell on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, and the news will be that he has not yet decided to endorse O and that he supports Gay marriage. This is unfortunate, because that really isn't news at all. The man is a republican, he should not be endorsing O. He should give his own party's candidate a look first. And I would expect Powell, who seems to be a decent human being, to support Gay marriage.

The republican candidate is Mitt Romney, and what Powell had to say about his comments on Russia should be the real news that came out of the CNN interview. Romney said, and I am paraphrasing here, that Russia is our number one geo- political foe, and the fact that O gave certain assurances to their leader is troubling.

Powell, in so many words, said that this is rubbish. According to Powell O was doing exactly what he should do, and Russia is not our enemy. He called Romney's foreign policy advisers "far to the right" and extreme on Morning Joe on MSNBC, and he (Powell) should know, because some of them actually worked for him. Powell also said that Romney needs to be more mature and realistic when talking about foreign policy.

Good luck with having that happen. This is political season and Mitt Romney is more interested in twenty second sound bites to his base than a real serious discussion about foreign policy. Let's just hope that he knows better and that if and when he gets into office he will just drop another line on his Etch A Sketch.

Finally, one more thing about Mitt: Today he unveiled his plan to reform education here in America, and you will be forgiven if you never heard about it because the press was not invited.

"..Like most of Romney's policy proposals, the education platform is pretty vague.

It largely focuses on a federal voucher program to allow low-income and disabled students to attend charter and private schools, falling in line with generally accepted GOP talking points about school choice.

But the plan fails to address expanded federal involvement in education, a major issue for the GOP's conservative base. While Romney does propose reforming some parts of the No Child Left Behind Act and consolidating "duplicative and overly complex" Department of Energy programs, he doesn't even come close to the radical cutbacks and wholesale DOE elimination favored by the growing social conservative/Tea Party/Constitutionalist wing of the Republican Party.
That may be why the campaign opted to unveil the plan during Romney's speech to the Latino Coalition's annual small business summit at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — a decidedly odd audience and location for a speech on education policy. The speech wasn't broadcast live, and was timed to coincide with President Obama's Air Force Academy commencement speech, virtually guaranteeing that Romney's news got limited airtime." [Source]

And here I thought that education was important. Anyway, it looks like the Etch A Sketch strategy is in full effect.

Colin v. Dick and Tom v. Rush and Rush v. Colin and Colin v. Rush and......

I can't tell you how much I have been enjoying this in-party fighting between the repubs for the soul (And I use that word loosely. Republicans have no souls) of their party. In one corner is the two tons of evil, also known as Rush & Dick. And in the other corner, the voices of moderation and reason, also known as Colin & Tom. (On this Memorial Day it's important to note that both Tom and Colin served their country honorably in war and Dick and Rush did not. Just thought I would throw that out there) Dick started it all when he lashed out at Colin and declared that he didn't even think that he[Colin] was a republican anymore. Then Tom said that Dick was in essence lying when he said that the country is less safe under Obama. And then Rush agreed with Dick, and Tom agreed with Colin and.....oh lawd this is all too much, but you get the idea.

“Rush will not get his wish and Mr. Cheney was misinformed – I am still a Republican..,”“Neither [Cheney] nor Rush Limbaugh are members of the membership committee of the Republican Party...”

Yu tell dem yawdie! That's what I like to see; that good old Jamaican fighting spirit coming out of you. You must be drinking plenty Irish Moss and Linseed these days. But wait, Tom Ridge wants to jump in here as well:

“I think Rush articulates his point of view in ways that offend very many...”

That's what I am talking about; two military guys fighting for their party on Memorial Day. Way to go boys. I am pretty sure that most A-merry-cans have your back. Most. Unfortunately there are still some among us who would put party over country. We call them "wingnuts", and there are plenty of them.

Now as a person of color I always listen for the African American voices in these debates. So where are the conservative or republican, African Americans? Why so silent on this issue? Whose side are you folks going to come down on? Inquiring minds want to know. I know that a few of you like to come out to the fields from time to time, so can you tell us please? We are trying to understand the debate and I am sure that you all will be able to help us out a little.

"I don't want to pick a fight with Dick Cheney, but the fact is, the Republican party has to be a broad party that appeals across the country..."

Fight Colin fight. The field Negroes have your back. Even if the Negroes in your own party do not.

I will take Rush over the black guy.

"Well, if I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh, I think,"..." I think my take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican."

That was the devil himself disguised as an old white man named Dick Cheney. He was telling CBS News and anyone who would listen that he would rather have a fat drug addicted [alleged]pedophile in his party, than a genuine "American hero", Colin Powell. Wow!

Now I am no political expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I am guessing that if you asked most A-murder-cans who they would trust more to be their leader, they would say the good general and not anyone from the new "axis of evil"; Cheney,Rush, and Newt. Just a thought.

But I knew the marriage couldn't last. I always thought that my homie, Colin, was too decent to be associated with the party of Lincoln. He has disappointed me along the way and left me scratching my head at times (like when he went in front of the world and announced that Saddam had WMD's), but at some point any human being with even an ounce of decency has to realize who these people are and what they really stand for. What they stand for is themselves and their own selfish interests. They are all about power and how to keep it, and damn everyone and everything else. It's why Rush has no problem making fun of people losing their jobs--even people who work for his own company---on his show while he pockets millions of dollars. It's why Dick Cheney will not lose a minutes sleep, even though, thanks to him, over 4,000 will never wake from theirs. It's why Newt Gingrich had no problem divorcing a dying wife as he kicked the tires on his new model. (What is he on now? Number three?) For the record, Powell has been married to the same woman since 1962.

But Powell represents a bigger problem for the folks in the republican party: They are fighting more and more among themselves with each passing day and they can't decide if they should move to the center, become more moderate, and try to be relevant again. Or, if they should move farther to the right and become extinct.

"The Republican Party is in “deep trouble” because it is “getting smaller” and being led by far right polarizing figures... Rush Limbaugh “diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without.”

"Well, if I had to choose — in terms of being a Republican — I’d go with Rush Limbaugh, I think. My take on it was that Colin had already left the party. I didn’t know he was still a Republican."

Hey, way to go there Dick; "stand by your man". Even if he is a lying self centered drug addicted one. Let's just hope, for his sake, that he doesn't like hunting.

Colin Powell is a racist.

So Rush Limp-boy thinks that Colin Powell's endorsement of the O man was all about race. Go figure; one of A-merry-ca's most revered figures, a military icon, and a man who just a few years ago, according to A-merry-cans, transcended race, is now being accused of tribalism. Wow! What a difference a few years make.

The fat boy (That's fat boy not frat boy. That title is reserved for a certain President) almost burst an artery today screaming about the Colin Powell endorsement of the O man. "Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race," Limbaugh wrote. "OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I'll let you know what I come up with."

Rush, please let me know when you come up with the senile old white guy, with a fucking trailer park trash for a running mate, who Powell endorsed as well. Please! Don't even get me started with this madness.

But Powell should have known that the rethugs would turn on him. See what tokenism gets you Colin? One minute you are their darling.--- The kind of black man every other black man should aspire to be--- And the next minute you are just like all the rest of those niggers in the tribe. Forget those four stars on your chest, and your years of service to your country; not to mention, your service to all those rethuligcan presidents. For endorsing that skinny Negro with the Muslim name, you go straight to the back of the bus.

"I come to the conclusion that because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities -- and you have to take that into account -- as well as his substance -- he has both style and substance,...He has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."

I wonder if Mr. Morton will come to Colin Powell's defense. I wonder if he will get a fellow military man's back and tell Rush and the people like him in his party to back off? I wonder if he will admonish Rush and the people like him in his party for implying that Colin Powell can't see beyond race, and that he is guilty of playing the race card? "Let me say it louder, and let me say it even more plainly. IT WAS TOTALLY ABOUT RACE!" Let me say it even more plainly: RUSH LIMBAUGH IS A FAT DRUG ADDICT... sorry, I just had to do that. The charge itself is totally ridiculous,of course. I mean does that mean that all the former secretary of states who endorsed Mr. Morton did so because he is white? Of course not....well, ahh, let me stop, I don't want to be guilty of what I am accusing Rush of doing.

But what am I thinking? Rush Limp-boy gets anywhere from 10-20 million listeners per day, and damn near everyone of them will vote rethuglican. There is no way in hell that Mr. Morton will disavow anything that Rush says. None! The republican presidential candidate has made deals with many devils, and Rush just happens to be one of them. Albeit the fattest one with the most listeners. So this is the hand he was dealt. And the longer this campaign goes on, the more the ugly underbelly of rethuglican politics exposes itself, and the harder it is for the faces of the rethuglican party to hide the ugliness that is right below the surface. Fortunately, like the zits that eventually appear in the adolescents face, they can't stay hidden forever. Thank you Rush, for allowing the rest of A-merry-ca to see the zits, too.

Real change?

"Indeed, we need change, not a change of political parties, not a change in Washington, not a change of issues, but a change of beliefs--beliefs that set all these things that we don't like into motion in the first place.Let me show you what a black presidency can achieve:A black child, now born, or soon to be born, will come into a world where he/she will not feel/know the limitations of a barrier of any sort--a black president can do that. A white child, now born, or soon to be born, will come into a world where he/she will feel/know that blacks, too, can aspire to be the best this country has to offer, that it's not his/her privilege alone--a black president can do that.Should he be a good president, or a superlative president, or just a so-so president will not matter so much, as the mind-altering explosion of beliefs that a black presidency will indelibly etch upon the hearts and minds of the people of this country."

~~~The circle is complete~~
That great quote from a previous commenter ( I think his/her handle is "the circle is complete") got me thinking about this presidential race again.
I am back on the field plantation after a weekend in D.C., and pretty soon, like the rest of the folks in Pennsylvania, I will be caught up in presidential race fever. " The real March Madness."
Now with all due respect to "deb" who commented on the same thread, I am not an Obamaholic, and my position on the "O" man has been pretty clear from the jump. But now that Sean Insanity and the rest of the folks at FAKE NEWS have been beating him up on this church thing, I feel a need to get his back. Call it one black family member getting another one's back. I know I know, he is a half brother, but he is still fam.
But beyond my gut instinct to look out for one of my own, I wanted something more. Something to give me an insight into the Obamaholics soul, and something to make me justify supporting him on an intellectual level. I think that commenter crystallized it for me. Because even though I know deep down in my gut that Obama probably would not be any different than any of the other politicians in Washington, I can't get away from the historical significance of black man in the White House. With all due respect to Master Card: "Watching all those former Presidents turn in their graves, Priceless". I know the secret service would work overtime; but just to see the look on the faces of a certain segment of our population would be worth every tax dollar to pay for their overtime.
So the "change" part I am not so sure about, but the historical part, I am. I honestly don't think another African American will come this close to the White House in my life time. ---If anybody even had the thought of Colin Powell, or Harold Ford in their heads, please get it out right now;
neither one of those men have a shot. Obama does, and if he wins I will be as proud as the next person of color for his achievement. But please believe that if he fucks up in office, I will be blogging about his ass just as hard as I did George Bush.
The Political Soldiers.
I swear I was going to try and hold off on posting about this damn war in Iraq for awhile. But sometimes, as a blogger, you just can't ignore the news. And the news of the day centers around the good general and his testimony before congress about the frat boy's war in Iraq.
Now when I say good, I am being sarcastic of course, because there is nothing good about the frat boy's latest military lackey being trotted out to hoodwink the American people. I am sorry, the weak and gutless national media is all over MoveOn.org for their ad. where they called the good general, "Betray us", for no reason, because he deserves that label. Let me put it you like this; the good general is a political animal, who gave a speech to congress today, just like the White House scripted it. I don't know about you, but when a military general who has already lost over 3,700 of his men, whose job it is to protect said men, totally mischaracterize the nature of a military engagement, he is certainly betraying somebody. If not us---the American people---then certainly his men.
"I wrote this testimony myself. It has not been cleared by nor shared with anyone in the Pentagon, the White House or the congress."
Yeah right! And I have never wondered what Lark Voorhies looks like in her birthday suit.
Folks, it's like this: General Petraeus, like Colin Powell, was presented to us by the Bush White House to hoodwink us. Colin's big moment, and ultimate lie, was played out during the run up to the Iraq war, when he sat in front of the United Nations, and with a straight face, told the world that the mustache man of Baghdad had weapons of mass destruction. He is still trying to clear his name after that one. And sadly, he will spend the rest of what was a once promising life, trying to explain just what the fuck he was smoking that day. Like William Westmoreland did for Lyndon Johnson during the Vietnam war, Powell and Petraeus keep doing the frat boy's bidding by telling the American people that there is a "light at the end of the tunnel". Or, in Powell's case, lets go into the tunnel to see if we can see some light.
But I have to give it to the frat boy and his brain. They had to know that not one sane American would believe their bull shit. So instead, they trot out two politically savvy, and media conscious career soldiers, with all kinds of medals on their chests, and stars on their shoulders. They know that Americans are suckers for a nice crisp uniform, and an aura of authority. And as one blogger I read wrote recently;"they use these central casting generals to give an illusion of objectivity."
Of course we know now that nothing could be farther from the truth. These two clowns are as loyal to their political masters as any other flunky in the White House, in spite of what the rethuglicans, and some dim-ocrats try to tell us. How could Petraeus, for instance, be objective when he wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post six weeks before the 2004 presidential elections? In that piece, he claimed that there had been "tangible progress" in Iraq, and the "momentum had gathered". Yep, I think "betray us" was an accurate name for the good general. And don't even get me started on milk carton Colin, cause dude has some issues.
Please America, do not go for the "flim flam". You heard the good general today judge for yourself. He said there will be 30,000 troops withdrawn by March of 2008, there is ongoing progress in Anbar province, some of the benchmarks are being met... and on and on. Think about it. All the good general was doing today, was giving cover for moderate rehug-licans, and rethug-lican presidential candidates this next election. By promising some modest withdrawals, he allows the polittircksters to go to the people and say;"see folks the boys will be coming home one day soon." That's what a slick ass general with a doctorate degree from Princeton does. (Sorry Chris) He does his bosses bidding, all the while seeming objective, and getting credibility with the public at large. In other words, like Colin before him, he straddles the fence, and gives an illusion of being honorable and above partisan politics.
"I believe that we will be able to reduce our forces to the pre-surge levels...by next summer without jeopardizing the security gains we have fought so hard to achieve"
And I believe you are full of shit general "Betray us".
Searching For Colin Powell
People think the field is all jokes and sarcasm. But sometimes in the true spirit of journalism, the field gets serious and attempts to do some real investigative work. (Like the time I interviewed frat boy for instance) So anyway, with the mid term elections fast approaching, and the politicians preparing to get back to Washington. The field was thinking about just what a mess we are in with this Iraq war situation. If the GOP loses the house or the senate; they will have frat boy and his 36% approval rating and an unpopular war to thank for it. And given the countries mood right now, I can see the GOP going down, kind of like the democrats did in 1994 when Newt's revolution took them out.
So as I sit here thinking about this very unpopular war, and all the s#$% it has stirred up. I start to think about my homey Colin. (Yes he is my homey because his parents, like the fields, are Jamaican) Colin Powell, remember him? He was the guy that was going to be the first black president. Straight out of central casting for the role too. If ever white folks were going to vote for a black man to be president it was Colin. And they weren't afraid to show it. Poll after poll showed that if he were to run, regardless of who he ran against, the good general would win. According to white folks, he spoke well, (Don't you love that one, like someone can get to be a five star general by speaking ebonics) He was so handsome and distinguished (Translated light skinned non threatening), and he embodied all the great American values that we so love: Hard work, pulling yourself up, and putting God and country first.
And he has all the right credentials too: National Security Advisor, Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of State. According to Wikipedia, he was the highest ranking non-Caucasian government official in American history. He is, or was, the poster boy for the republican party and the U.S. Army, representing what can be achieved in America through hard work. Now that's impressive!
So after all that, I am thinking, just where the f%#@ has he been lately? Trust me, if he wasn't my homey I wouldn't care. But somehow it doesn't feel right what happened to Colin, and I think it's been sad to see someone fall so far so fast. I suspect that it all has something to do with this war we have going in Iraq right now.
Anyway, the field has been searching all over for the good General to get his side of the story, but with no luck. Finally, I caught a break. I hooked up with some yawdies who knew where the general was hiding out on the rock. (It seems my man went back to the land of his roots to hide out, and clear his head) So anyway, after a flight down to Mo-Bay on the "love bird" (That's Air Jamaica for all of you who aren't in the know) , I hooked up with my man Spragger Ranks, who promised to drive me to the parish of St. Ann to find where the the good general was hiding out these days.
So after about three hours on the winding Jamaican roads and into the hills and mountains of St. Ann's parish. We finally enter a Rastafarian compound hidden and tucked away in the side of the mountain. For those of you familiar with the rock, we are about a thirty minute drive from a town called Runaway Bay. (How ironic is that?)
OK, so we enter the compound, and my man Marley is blasting on the sound system. "Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior, is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned every where is war..." damn I am thinking, this is some appropriate sh#%, they are playing "War" from the "Rastaman Vibration" album. Dreads are everywhere, fruits on the table, and the unmistakable smell of the St. Ann collie weed is in the air. Over in a corner, seated by a picture of Haile Sellasie, is the man I came to see. Obviously deep in thought and reflection, I hardly recognize him. He looked a lot smaller, his skin was a lot darker, and his hair was growing out. Spragger Ranks told me it was cool, so I headed over to where the general was sitting, introduced myself, turned on my tape recorder, and started my interview.
FN: Hi general, my name is field-negro, I came to interview you for my blog. Spragger and some of the boys said it was cool. That you would talk to me since we are both yawdies, and you want the folks in the fields to know how you really feel about all the sh#* that's been going on with you.
CP: Yeah field it's cool I heard you were coming. I am just a little messed up right now, the way this whole Iraq thing went down. I have a lot on my conscience and on my mind these days.
FN: I can't say I blame you with the war going the way it is. What is it now, 2,652 American troops dead, and over 19,000 injured so far. Not to mention over 45,000 dead Iraqi civilians, and almost 500 billion dollars in tax payer's money.
CP: Hey field, you don't have to remind me, I know it's bad. I can't even stand to watch the news anymore. That's one reason I came down here, for some peace and quite.. and.. " every where is war me se war" Hey you guys turn off that sh%*. Damn Marley all day long that's all they play in this place.
FN:Wasn't Bob Marley born in this parish?
CP:Yeah, I think he was. Damn field, you are pretty up on your history.
FN: Well speaking of history, I want you to watch this clip on my little video camera. This was you at the U.N. on February 5, 2003, making a case for the war in Iraq:
"This is important day for all as we review the situation with respect to Iraq and its disarmament obligations under U.N. Security Resolution 1441....Last November 8, this council passed Resolution 1441 by a unanimous vote. the purpose of that resolution was to disarm Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction. Iraq has already been found guilty of material breach of its obligations, starting back over 16 previous resolutions and 12 years..."
FN:Should I keep playing it, you don't look so good.
CP: Yeah field, go on, I will be fine.
FN: OK if you insist.
"I might add at this point that we are providing all relevant information we can to the inspection teams for them to do their work. The material I will present to you came from a variety of sources. Some are U.S. sources. And some are those of other countries. Some of the sources are technical, such as intercepted telephone conversations and photos taken by satellites. Other sources are people who have risked their lives to let the world know what Saddam Hussein is really up to. I cannot tell you everything that we know, but what I can share with you, when combined with what all of use have learned over the years, is deeply troubling..."
CP:Stop! That's enough field, I can't look at that anymore. It was all lies, intel that was cherry picked to make a case for war. I mean I can't believe I let those little weenies in the White House play me like this. They knew how popular I was, and they knew that if I sold this war, the American people would buy it, hook, line, and sinker. I am telling you field, the intel crap they gave me, looked like a damn Chinese menu. You could just pick what you want from it.
FN: Well, it looked like it worked general.
CP: Please, call me Colin, I don't feel like a general anymore. A real general would have stood up to those chicken hawk neo cons and told them the real cost of war. A real general would not have allowed almost 3,000 fine American young men to give their lives for an unnecessary war. Pretending to defend freedom, when in truth, they were defending a political strategy to hold on to power for this bunch, and their defense contractor friends.
FN: Colin, one of your former aides, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, says that you told him that the speech at the U.N. was the lowest point in your life, is that true?
CP: Yeah it's true.
FN: He said you spent four days and nights locked in the CIA conference room leading up to that speech. And that George Tenet was there, and he expressed some reservations about the intel that they were giving you for the speech. Is that true Colin?
CP: Yeah it's true. And that's when they gave me that crap that looked like a Chinese menu.
FN: And didn't David Kay say that one of the sources you quoted in your speech to the U.N. was a lier and a fabricator. His words sir.
CP: Yeah field you are right about that too. Hey, do you think the American people know all of this?
FN: Yes Colin I think they do, more than you think. More and more people are saying the war was unnecessary and has no connection to 911, or the war on terror.
CP: So then I good out in time then huh? I mean are people associating me with this bunch?
FN: Yeah Colin, I would pretty much say they are. I mean the republicans don't like you anymore, because they think you came out against the president, and democrats don't like you because they think you were less than honorable with the entire lead up to the war fiasco. And the most important people, those in the middle, who would have pulled the lever for you for president before. Now see you as a political opportunist just like the other folks in Washington.
CP: Yeah but, I mean I wasn't that definitive about the war was I? I mean I did leave some wiggle room in case we decided not to attack.
FN: Well not actually Colin, here I Will play some more tape for you. This is you at the U.N, again.
"We have no indication that Saddam has ever abandoned his nuclear weapons program.
Saddam already possesses two out of three key components needed to build a nuclear bomb.
Saddam is determined to get his hands on a nuclear bomb..."
CP: OK Stop! I get it, so maybe I did make a case to go to war based on what I said. Boy do I feel stupid. I thought George was my friend. He must have saw how popular I was , and he knew that if he went down for this war, he would take me with him. Damn, he and that little weasel that sits on his shoulder all the time, are always scheming.
FN: You mean Karl Rove?
CP: That's exactly who I mean.
FN: But Colin, I gotta ask you, what were you thinking? Right before your speech, Hans Blix, and Muhammed El Baradei told the U.N. that disarmament was taking place in Iraq, and they specifically asked for more time. And Dr. Baradei even said your statements about a uranium transfer between Iraq and Niger was not authentic. And they said that they found no evidence or plausible indication of WMD's in Iraq. So again, I ask you, what the F%&* were you thinking?
CP: I will tell you what I was thinking field. I was thinking I could trust those slime balls like Rommey and Cheyney in the White House. I was following the advise of Cheyney and the CIA. What else can I tell you? I trusted them, and they burned me. It's as simple as that FN: Boy did they ever.
CP: Hey, if you remember, I said it in Cairo Egypt back in February of 2001, that Saddam was not a threat, so I knew even then, and I still let them talk me into this mess. That's why I resigned. Oh I gave Ms. Thing my letter of resignation as soon as Georgie boy won another term.
FN: Who is Ms. Thing?
CP: You know, Condi, the resident house negro now that I am gone.
FN: Yeah. but in your letter you said: "I will always treasure the four years that I have spent with President Bush and the wonderful men and women of the Department of State"
Didn't you mean those words?
CP: Did Anna Nicole really love her old ass husband? Of course I didn't mean it. But what else was I going to say?
FN: Well you could have been a little more honest with the American people. CP: I was honest with the American People.
FN: No you weren't, not when some of the very people who worked for you, basically said you were lying. People like Scott Thielmann for instance. And there is no doubt that your speech to the U.N. legitimized the case for war.
CP: Yeah, and you know what field, I live with that every day. The human lives lost, the cost, the total destruction of that country, and the entire Middle East going to hell in a hand basket. Do you know that over 72,000 people world wide have lost their lives to terrorist attacks since Georgie boy announced his war on terror. Not to mention the fact that 3,000 Iraqis a month are now dying. That's why I just sit here and smoke the good collie weed all day. It's too f#$%*g depressing man. That damn Rumsfield, he gets my goat up too. Here is a guy who actually went to Iraq in the eighties when he worked for Reagan, and gave the guy -Saddam- all types of support including military, and intelligence, and now he goes to Salt Lake City of all places and compares the guy to Hitler. Boy that's priceless. That takes some big ones, doesn't it?
FN: Yes it does Colin, yes it does.
"Never let a politician grant you a favor they will always want to control you forever..."
CP: Damn, they are playing that Marley again. Hey cut dat mon cut dat. Yu nu si me a talk to mi brethren field negro. Sorry field, every now and then I have to go there with these niabingies.
FN: That's cool Colin. You just hang in there OK, I will report this on my blog, and let the rest of people in America know that you are still alive and kicking. They were all just a little worried about you that's all.
CP: Field, make sure you let the American people know that I was set up, and I didn't want this to happen. It's not my fault.
FN: I hear you Colin.
CP: You want a hit off of this? It's lamsbread wrapped in tobacco leaf, it's the best weed in the world.
FN: No thanks Colin, I don't get high, but thanks for the offer. Besides, I think you need it more than I do, you need all the escape you can get.
"Of good over evil, of good over evil, Good over evil"
Damn Colin, no one listens to you anymore.
