A culture of madness.

"We challenge the culture of violence when we ourselves act in the certainty that violence is no longer acceptable, that it's tired and outdated no matter how many cling to it in the stubborn belief that it still works and that it's still valid." ~Gerard Vanderhaar~
What on earth would possess someone to shoot a six year old eleven times??!!

We always think that the human soul can't get any darker, but, sadly, somehow it always does. We thought Columbine was as bad as it could get, but here in America alone there has been 31 deadly  school shootings since Columbine, and we are all left wondering when the madness will end.

Maybe this tragedy in Connecticut will be a tipping point in this ongoing debate about where we should stand with guns in our culture. There is no doubt that we live in a violent society. Guns (and the glorification of them) are everywhere. They are in our games, our movies, and in our art. We embrace guns and we celebrate the fact that it is in our Constitution. Now, astonishingly, pro gun advocates are saying that if the kindergarten teachers were armed this tragedy would not have happened. (Yeah, that's the ticket, arm kindergarten teachers in every school in America.)

Now we are learning that the animal who slaughtered these children in Connecticut was raised by a mother who embraced the gun culture.

"Nancy Lanza took her son, Adam, to a shooting range and taught him how to use a firearm before he turned a gun on her and shot her dead, then executed more than two dozen terrified children and teachers at an elementary school.
Fifty-two-year-old Nancy Lanza was an avid gun collector who had legally purchased five firearms, all registered in Connecticut, according to police records.
'She said she would often go target shooting with her kids,' Dan Holmes, owner of the landscaping firm Holmes Fine Gardens, told Reuters.

He recalled that she once showed him a 'high-end rifle' that she had purchased.

'She was very proud of it,' he told the New York Daily News. 'She loved her guns.'"

Unfortunately, so did her son.

I guess the lesson of Nancy Lanza is that women should not be allowed to buy guns. Also, autistic or other mentally disabled people should not be allowed to shoot guns. While we are at it, black people should also be banned from owning guns.

Making those changes to our gun laws would have a huge reduction in the number of gun related homicides in America.

Why is it that with the exception of Ted Bundy, serial killers ALWAYS look the same?

Now tell me racist assnon, how does it feel to have your physical likeness associated with a serial killer? Because stalking me for the past almost 5 years, certainly indicates your propensity for committing similar acts.

Go ahead and remove all the weapons from Philly. Then all the bad guys will be shooting the people. They will still have and be able to get weapons.

I agree that my people should be banned from owning guns provided everyone else would be banned from owning guns. Now THAT would REALLY make a huge reduction in gun related homicides.

So What? it's legal to own guns. If you are a gun lover then you certainly would collect as many as possible.

Field, you are a clothes lover. Don't you collect a lot of suits? Well, it's the same thing with collecting guns.

Gun violence is not the issue.

If the principal had been armed, and had shot Adam Lanza dead on the spot, would she be guilty of “gun violence”?

Attacking violence without addressing the rationale and purpose of violence in particular situations is nihilism.

The issue in this case is that violence was committed in an act of evil.

As a society, we dismiss right and wrong, we embrace sickness and evil; yet we still expect people to be good.

It's not a "gun culture" that is to blame, it is a violence culture.

Of course the Left will try to blame the guns, but that is like blaming the fork for obesity. The problem must be attacked at its roots — entertainment, music, art and godlessness.

Our society, even while speaking against actual violence, systematically normalizes fictional portrayals of extreme and perverted violence through the entertainment media.

Our society has also destroyed norms in taking a non-judgmental and libertarian position on mentally disturbed and dangerous people who once would have been isolated from society. It would be unfair and oppressive to institutionalize the mentally ill, so we let them move about at liberty where ultimately many of them commit violent crimes.

But no one notices our systematic normalization of the normless. People seem to think that because they themselves are not bothered or harmed by this normless world of violence and madness, no one will be harmed by it. But not everyone is equally stable. Some people are more vulnerable to messages of sadism, savage violence, rampant lust, and murder than others. They need a sane and well ordered society to remain well-ordered themselves. But our society hurls everyone into moral chaos and assumes everyone will be ok, because, after all, if you don’t like perverted and violent messages in the surrounding society, you’re free to ignore them, right?

Adam Lanza was known to be crazy, made other people afraid, was known to the authorities, and no one did anything about it.

As they track down the story of Adam Lanza, and all standard parts fall into place—the weak absent father, the dingbat single mother, the liberal, well-meaning psychologist who was “working” with Adam, the shallow friends who found him “edgy” and “different,” Adam’s cultural life which consisted of an addiction to violent imagery, music, and movies supplied by the same media-political complex that is now feigning grief as all of America is brought before the microphones blinking, crying, totally uncomprehending, we will notice one repeated phrase, a phrase so universal, so emblematic of Liberal America and its mounting catastrophes that I am proposing it become the new national motto, or rather the epitaph to be engraved on the tombstone of the Republic:

“HOW COULD IT HAVE HAPPENED?”

It should be quite obvious how this happened. Yet each time another mass murder takes place in another “safe” town, everyone is shocked and rushes to tie pink ribbons on trees and hold prayer-and-therapy vigils and hug each other—symbols of their own invulnerable and utterly false sense of innocence.

Autism isn't a mentally illness or a personality disorder, in fact there's no evidence to support that people with the disease are dangerous.

Let's for the sake of argument we ban guns, there is still the issue of people with emotional and mental issues. Now most people with mental illness are not dangerous, but we can sense some people that exhibit signs of behavior where he or she could physically harm other individuals. How do you determine if a person has homicidal tendencies if the person doesn't have medical history of it and no criminal record, this person in theory can purchase a gun legally. Perhaps Nancy Lanza could have done a better job to ensure that her son did not have access to her guns considering what we know that she was concern about his behavior. There was a mother a few weeks ago her turned her son to the police who was going to commit a copy cat of the mass shooting in Aurora. It's going to take that kind of intervention to crimes of this nature.

My question becomes how do we change the culture of violence in the society. We can remove guns, but there are other forms of killing a group of people. A perfect example is Timothy McVeigh with driving a truck with a huge bomb killing 168 people, including 19 children into the federal building in 1993. There is something profoundly wrong with our society that sees violence as a panacea to resolve problems. I'm surprise what happened in OK, City hasn't happened again, but certainly hope it does not.

I don't think has an answer to this complex problem and wish someone would be honest enough to say other than the typical knee jerk response about gun control when tragedies such as this one occurs. What is interesting that people are paying more attention to this particular shooting because the nature of the victims were small children. This has really captured and greatly affected the country because it's unimaginable that anyone would go into a school and killed over 20 6 and 7 year old children and 7 adults . I had a conversation with my cousin last night about this and mentioned the mass shooting in the Amish school in PA with 11 children shoot with 5 girls were killed gunman who entered the school on his shooting rampage in 2006.

I think one thing is that these shooters want to gain notoriety because of failing to get into a group and being rejected. Being ignored is a great form of rejection. However, it's utterly impossible to make sense of the senseless and oversimplifying this tragedy as being evil doesn't work as almost all these shooters have a severe mental illness that's difficult to detect until it's too late.

Until people are willing to understand that there is a specific demographic that is responsible for mass shootings nothing can be done. White on whte shootings by white guys must stpo, even if it means that white men are no longer permitted to own guns.
As KahlidX said :
"White males are allowed to post messages talk of killing folks and no one is alarmed. Its amazing no matter how many white males kill innocent folks its racism if we talk of profiling them. Why? Because blacks are criminal by nature according to the belief system and policy of America. Read the book The Condemnation of Blackness for the truth of how this was created by doctors , social scientist in the early years of the foundation of this country by a Harvard professor. What is happening now? White experts will go on tv and tell you this guy was just a lone wolf . He needed help He possibly cannot be representative of the entire white male population. White in this country has not been linked to being criminal. Black is . That's why black males get gunned down with hoodies and skittles. I thought he had a gun so I shot 8 times in the car. That is why white posters on here will attempt to lecture us and tell us to not turn this into a race issue. This is a tragedy they say. Yes it is. But I am not concerned about your cognitive dissonance. The white male is the most violent creature on this planet. People of color have been victims of their violence worldwide even to this very hour. White supremacy /racism has afforded white people great wealth , status and many privilege's that no one can deny. Black men , women and yes children have been murdered , raped , worked to death , lynched , burned alive , tortured, and yes even part of medical research at your wicked hands. Look at you smiling in the lynching photographs. The same mindset that allowed you to smile allows you to murder 20 children . The victims of white supremacy and your violent nature now include your own children. Until white people denounce and give up white supremacy this will continue. Until you recognize the inherent violent nature of white males , this will continue. The chickens of white supremacy are coming home to roost. Now you know how Trayvon Martin's mom and dad feels. Now you know how every black parent whose child was gunned down in a hail of bullets and it is called justified. White America continues to embrace white supremacy and you will have to take the good and the bad. Have the courage to let the truth be heard."

The usual Leftist forgetfulness when the results of policies they have introduced come to fruition.

Remember the decades of oh poor baby, he was mistreated as a child, we just don't understand them, excuse, excuse, excuse. You know just like today.

Many pundits today may be wondering what it is about Barack Obama that is causing all of these mass shootings.
That’s a topic for another day.

Adam Lanza

What is clear, is that decades of failed liberal policy have made it difficult to force people with severe mental diseases to be treated or institutionalized. And, then we are all shocked when these same dysfunctional individuals go on a shooting rampage like we witnessed today in Newtown.

For Your Country posted this back after schizophrenic Jared Loughner went on his shooting rampage in Arizona that left several people dead and US Rep. Gabby Giffords seriously wounded.
It is just as true today.

It actually very hard to force people with severe mental diseases to be treated because of a range of reforms pushed by progressives starting in the 60′s:

Ronald David Laing, a Scottish Psychiatrist, In the 60′s put forth the foundation of the Anti-Psychiatry movement. He maintained that schizophrenia was “a theory not a fact”. The popularity of Laing’s theories is blamed for decline in students entering the psychology profession.
President John F. Kennedy’s 1963 Community Mental Health Centers Act accelerated the trend toward deinstitutionalization with the establishment of a network of community mental health centers and changes in laws regarding commitment.
Kenneth Kesey, wrote “One Flew over the Cukoo’s Nest”based in part on Laing’s thinking (and his own intensive use of drugs). “Kesey did not believe that these patients were insane, rather that society had pushed them out because they did not fit the conventional ideas of how people were supposed to act and behave.” The Book, play, and later the movie, portrayed a anti-psychiatry philosophy leading to a public displeasure with residential mental facilities resulting in further deinstitutionalization policies.
Deinstitutioanlization led to many legal and structural changes. American public mental hospital patients declined from more than 550,000 in 1955 to fewer than 40,000 at present. The displaced patients now represent 30-50% of the homeless populations.

As a result of Laing, Kennedy, Kesey and public efforts to transform the mental health care system to be more humane, to characterize mentally ill people as “Just thinking differently”, and characterizing mental health care as some form of evil, we now have a system that makes it virtually impossible to get folks like Loughner the care they need.

Deinstitutionalization policies driven by “do good” liberals and the federal government put focus on limited bad acts. Kesey wrote a story based on his LSD induced observations in one VA mental hospital. Once his story was put into film, his small example falsely characterized the bulk of mental health care as dehumanizing and made it impossible to force the Laughners of the world to get treatment.

Critics will focus on gun control after today’s school massacre.
The focus should be on failed liberal policies that excuse rather than assist extremely dysfunctional individuals.

Changing the name of a midget to something else will not make them taller, changing the name of someone retarded to something else will not remove their retardation.

Ignoring facts and science and settling for inaccurate theories and excuses will not address any problems or change anything.

Changing the name of crazy to something politically correct, and removing all methods to handle crazy, will not make crazy go away.

Ummmmm..., "Failed" liberal mental health policies create crazy people who are on the loose in society, some have even majorly effected specific cultures that make crazy normal for them.

Lets say if someone walked around creating fictional careers, like being a geneticist or a Doctor when they were not. That's pretty unbalanced and denotes someone seriously out of touch with reality. In the past behaviour like that would have warranted a looksee to make sure that unbalanced person doesn't flip out when the reality of all her life's failings sink in. Now - that would just be shrugged off - can't be racist. So she gets more and more delusional until one day.....

I know logic is hard for someone like you but look at history. There were more guns and less restrictions back in the day.
There were very few mass murderers, people were extremely civil and polite, because becoming adults was taken seriously and the repercussions of being uncivilized in civilized society were clear and delivered. Children and thier actions and manners were also their parents responsibility so they raised them and taught them and didn't blame teachers and society for who they raised their children to become.

What changed? In our society? What previously deranged and disgusting behaviors are now the norm? Norm for whom?

Tools don't kill people, people using tools kill people and spears and sticks are known to be used in the military in some nations. Handguns are a tool in the U.S.

Over 50% of liberals own and use handguns for sport and self defense.

Civilization was built by adept people who could use tools, we don't need people who are inept and dangerous to themselves to be the reason tools are limited for the rest of us. Just the inept. We just need to keep the sharp indstruments away from idiots who think the problems they have are all someone else's fault.

Look at world statistics before you speak of what you know not. Third worlders and diversity of the savage kind have made the U.K the most violent country in the world with double the incidents of handgun violence then before they banned them.

I could take away everything you have and you could still find a stick or spear to use if you were anti-social, violent and had little impulse control.

The tutsi's had few guns, machetes worked real well though didn't they.

There is nothing masculine about killing a roomful of six year olds.

Nice of you to impugn half the country for their 'hegemonic masculinity' when a mentally abnormal young man does something unspeakably evil.

This at a time when feminine dominance of American culture is ascendant. Men are entitled to nothing except to pay for their own displacement. Our laws, entitlement spending, and social engineering projects all favor women. Women live longer than men. Women receive over 2/3 of all spending on healthcare. Women decide who is President. Women make up over 60% of college graduates. Women have made it through the recession relatively unscathed, while men continue to be driven from the workforce.

If you want to point fingers at the culture, why not look hard at the relentless war on boys waged over the past generation by a feminist agenda implemented in schools, academia, government, media and corporate America? We have a generation of young men who been fed the message their whole lives that they must step aside, that are not wanted, that the future does not include them. A generation exiled to useless lives, without families, lives of video games, internet porn, and frustrated dreams. Violent fantasies can be an expected, if irrational, response to cultural emasculation.

Many young men can withstand these forces and build decent lives, but the weaker ones like Adam Lanza can crumble under the pressure.

I love and respect the men in my life, and look to them for protection against the forces of evil in the world. It is vile and hateful of you to project your inability to have a positive relationship with a man in a twisted effort to indict all men for the horrible act of one severely disturbed young man.

The Gun Owners of Ammerica spokesman stated that if the teacherss at Sandy Nook Elementary had beeen armed they could have taken out Adam Lanza before he had a chance to complete his deadly massacre of all of those innocent children. However people with more sensible minds have observed that Adam was wearing a bullet proof vest so unless all of the armed teachers correctly assumed that Adam was wearing such a vest and directed their fire towards his head, arms, groin, or legs their guns would prove to be useless. Further, under the same scenario, all of the armed teachers would have to be excellent marksmen with military grade reaction capability in order to get a head, groin, leg or arm shot into Adam considering that at any instant ne would present a fast moving target. The chances of armed kindergarten teachers having these qualifications are worse than slim and pretty much none.

One last observation, even with all of those weapon at his disposal, Adam would never have been able to kill as many people as he did without a respectible amount of weapons training.

On many occasions when someone is using a gun or guns that they are unfamilar with they wind up spraying bullets all over the place, and as a result there is generally a low fatality count when the event concludes. On the other hand when a shooter has a great deal of experience using their weapns, the kill count is always much higher as in most instances every shot fired by the killer is a body hit. I believe the latter was the case with Adam Lanza, who made full use of his time on spent the shooting range courtesy of his gun enthusiast mother.

In the aftermath of the school shooting in Connecticut, we will all wake up for a few days or weeks and speak the truth. .....

Am I loved or am I hated? Am I succeeding or am I failing? Am I accepted or rejected? Do I stand out or do I fit in? School is one of the most confusing institutions we have ever devised.

Most of us can bear the contradictions. The teacher tells us what a good job we did one day and the next day we get a test back with 55 per cent. We are told to be ourselves, and the next day we are sent to the office for “inappropriate behaviour.”

Add to this the fact that in school, students live in two separate worlds – learning world and kid world. Learning world is all about performance and marks and getting ahead. Kid world is all about social acceptance. The bottom line in both worlds is “fit in.” Again, most of us endure and survive this tension.

I believe that many school shooters are trauma victims who return to the site of their trauma, trying to resolve the huge internal conflict they feel about their experience in school. They are often the dispossessed, the alienated, the outsiders. Most of us survive the trauma of school because we have other people – parents, siblings, friends – who affirm us. A former classmate, remembering suspected shooter Adam Lanza to The New York Times, said, “I never saw him with anyone. I can’t even think of one person that was associated with him.”

The term Aspergers Syndrome has been used in connection with the killer. It could well be the case – trouble with social interactions and a preference for routine behaviours make children with Aspergers ideal candidates for getting lost in school. They follow the three rules of school very well: sit still; be quiet and do what you’re told. In addition, I would guess that this boy’s psychological profile would include high intelligence and extreme sensitivity – two characteristics that can make school a difficult place. Intelligence is not always recognized or rewarded at school. We hear that he got good marks, but this is not the same thing as being intellectually challenged or stimulated. As for being highly sensitive, well, we just don’t have time for that. Life is hard. You better get used to it.

Finally, these shooters are all boys. We have tried to blame video games, but that hasn’t stuck. Testosterone is certainly a factor, and by the time this little boy is 20 years old, he has enough testosterone to fuel the anger that has been building for about 15 years.

I would argue that it is no coincidence that school shooters are always boys. They are among the most traumatized at school. Whether it is because they are highly kinesthetic, and therefore bored by all the sitting and reading and writing, or they’re intelligent and not challenged by the curriculum, or they’re highly sensitive and bullied (both by peers and the system itself), we have a huge population of disenfranchised, alienated, angry males in our schools for whom the system simply does not work.

... Kids who need to be seen for who they really are, not for who we want them to be, who need to be listened to no matter what they say and who need to be touched with nurturing affection.

"Lets say if someone walked around creating fictional careers, like being a geneticist or a Doctor when they were not. Now - that would just be shrugged off - can't be racist. So she gets more and more delusional until one day..... "

My username was given to me by AB years ago, and every regular sane person commentng on this blog is aware of that. And though I have a significant command of the fields of molecular biology and genetics, I've never said I was a geneticist. That's yet another example you, the resident repub cracka', twisting my words as a successful Black woman Scientist, to meet your own malevolent agenda.

Sure, sure, we know, someone else named you, it's all someone else's fault that you use them. I have seen others here call you a dumbass; why aren't you using that more apt descriptive name?

No ones twisting anything, thats your curly hair tickling your teeny brain again. You say you are Dr Queen, you say you are NuWangWorker, you say you teach children genetics. HO-Hum - you say things you are not. Delusional and crazy.

Answering your bullshit that you post here is simply that, answering a bullshit artist. Don't take it out on those who see your bullshit for what it is, it isn't our fault you feel it necessary to come onto a blog and make up lies to boast to anonymous people.

So let's just say if someone stalks someone on the internet for almost 5 years including posting nonsense white supremist bullshit on the blog of a Black Attorney 24/7 LITERALLY.

Whats a "supremist? is this the water spray they have at Disney?
How many degrees do you have? Did you take the course in she-boon-bonics?

The question is not if your flaky cracka' ass will crack one day, but when and how many other white people you're going to injure or kill in the process.

Oh hun, your the violent nasty dirty ghetto hoochie mama, stop projecting. I thought you had a "significant command" of genetics.

"I believe the latter was the case with Adam Lanza, who made full use of his time on spent the shooting range courtesy of his gun enthusiast mother."

This is what Malcolm referred to as "chickens coming home to roost".

And just think, stronger gun laws would already be on the books if Hinckly been a better shot or if Dick had killed his friend during that hunting "accident".

I was helping my son get his daughters ready for school when the news broke into the kids program on the frontroom tv where the girls had bowls of cereal on tv trays. Dropping his youngest off at morning chorus on my way to an out-of-town deposition that morning was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

Just a question for the cons. If mass shootings are the result of "liberal" policies, then why is it not routinely happening in all of the other countries in the world, which so many of you deride as being even more "liberal" than the US?

If the CT shooting victims were black this would not even be talked about. 26 blacks in Chicago were murdered in a 24 HR period and hardly made news. Racism is still very much alive!!! Jamie Foxx on Sat nite live said regarding his role in his new movie "I get to kill all the white people in the movie. How cool is that?" Yeah Foxx that is cool.

Your an idiot! Doing your best to stir up racial division. Listening to people like you and most other blacks you would think that poor lil Trayvon was jus walking down the street like a good lil boy w his skittles and tea and then BAM!!! Jus out of the blue he was shot for no reason! Yeah that's just how it happened. Forget The bruised hands and the gashes on the back of zimmermans head and bloody nose. Jus forget that part. Your as ignorant as Quinton Terantino talking about why he wanted to make the "Django" movie. Saying "the story of slavery needs to be told" because of what happened back then but also "there are alot of parallels going on today. Look at all the black men who have been sent to prison in the last 40 years because of drug laws...That is just slavery!!". Really. Forget these "slaves" in prison broke a law to be put there. Just ignorant talk. Explain this Jaime Foxx can get on Sat nite live and say "In Django I got to kill all the white people! How cool is that!!" I a white man said "in my movie I get to kill are the black people!!! How cool is that!!!" your buddies Jesse and Al would be crying and marching somewhere and boycotting the actor and who knows what else. A sad double standard that is getting worse every minute. It's not white supremacist sir. It's the Black supremacist today. BET is as racist as it gets. Always talking about "black America" and "our people". That is the problem. Black not white supremecy!! The black panthers. The black comedians and thug wanna be rappers who portray whites as lame, uncool, no rhythm and no toughness and can be walked over. I you and other blacks love Africa and want to be called African Americans then go back to your "motherland." lived in Ghana and talked w many of my black African friends about black people in America. The few that had come to the United States and spent a few weeks said they were ashamed of how black people in America act. One friend said "they are nothing like us." He was absolutely right!!! Get the chip off your shoulder and I say to you and "your people in Black America" stop blaming your failures in lie on "the white man" and something that happened 150 years ago that has nothing to do with you. You are not a slave and never have been or will be. Take a good look at yourself and be responsible for who you are and stop the blame game and stop being one of the millions of blacks who do their best to divide this country racially by the ignorant statements and attitudes you and they have. I'm sure if MLK jr was here today he would be SOOOO Proud of the actions and attitudes and lifestyles Today of the people he so greatly desire to help. If that is not possible you and your Afiracan American people need to get a o d way ticket back to the Motherland!
