When you lock him up, please throw away the key.

I just got my latest issue of GQ Magazine (yes I read GQ) and a note from the Letter to the Editor section reminded me why I despised the frat boy and his little munchkin of a crony so much.

The following is a letter the House Judiciary Committee sent the latest criminal from the Bush White House on April 17th.

"Dear Mr. Rove:

We write seeking your appearance before the House Judiciary Committee to testify concerning the troubling issue of the politicization of the Department of Justice during this Administration, including allegations regarding the prosecution of former Governor of Alabama Dan Siegelman....In a recent interview with GQ Magazine you respond by describing Ms. Simpson [Republican Attorney Dana Jill Simpson who accused Rove of sabotaging the reelection of Alabama Democratic Governor, Don Siegelman, by coercing U.S. Attorneys to charge him with corruption.] as a "complete lunatic" and asserting that she never mentioned your name during the deposition that she submitted to the Committee staff. In fact, Ms. Simpson actually referenced you several times at deposition. In any event, particularly since you have briefly commented on this matter in GQ and while serving as a commentator on FOX NEWS, we believe the subject, like other serious charges regarding the role of politics at the Department of Justice should be addressed before a key investigating Committee of Congress.

Thank you in advance for your prompt cooperation. "

Yeah I know Karl, executive privilege. Right?

See, this is what frustrates me about A-merry-ca. That this poor excuse for a human being can take away a man's freedom, destroy his political career, and still be allowed to make millions of dollars doing speaking engagements and acting (and I do mean acting) as a commentator on FOX NOISE.

Oh, and since we are talking about Rove. Let's talk about his classless boss and that little stunt he pulled over in Israel today. Playing politics on foreign soil while representing our country and while celebrating the 60th anniversary of one of the world's great democracies. That is reprehensible behavior as far as I am concerned. Wow, way to go frat boy, you have really outdone yourself this time.

But hey, I guess it's true what they say about "birds of a feather".

So Field,
Did you hear what Conyers was overheard saying about Rove?

"We'll hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested."

Ahhhh, if only . . . . .
I'd go to D.C. for that perp walk.

I'd love to see Karl do the frog march in cuffs.

Conyers and Biden made me proud to be a liberal today.

Hmmm when I think of Israel I don't usually equate it as a great democracy.

I'm down with Conyers acting tough with Rove but where has he been? There're going to arrest him now? Seems about 8 years too late but keep fighting the good fight Conyers. Bush needs to be gagged until Jan '09, please for the love of God go to Crawford and clear brush Mr. Bush. Please!

Yeah I know Karl, executive privilege. Right?

I'm not a lawyer so I may not grasp this concept but, where is the legal and/or Constitutional precedent for Executive Privilege extending to Karl Rove?

He was Bush's Deputy Chief of Staff.

If there is debate among lawyers about the accuracy of Cheney's claim that he is covered by Executive Privilege, then there must be even less grounds to argue that a lowly Chief of Staff to a president is covered by Executive Privilege.

Both HR Haldeman and John Erlichman were charged and sent to prison in the Watergate scandal and they sure weren't protected by Executive Privilege.

How can Bush claim Rove is protected?

"Hmmm when I think of Israel I don't usually equate it as a great democracy." \

Actually considering it is only 60 years old, and given their political and economic system, it is a model democracy. Now I know that there is a certain group living there in settlements who might have something to say about that, and who think that the land that Israel now claims as her own was stolen from them, but that's another debate for another day.

If we are going to say A-merry-ca is a great democracy,(and there are some folks who might have something to say about that)then don't we have to say the same about Israel?

Leota2, I did hear that statement from Conyers, I hope he follows through.

OK, just because I want to see Karl Rove's fat pasty ass on a spit roasted slowly with an apple in his mouth...

I don't believe that pathetic little stain ever did a single thing that wasn't completely politically motivated. Sorry, Bush, executive privilege doesn't cover politicking.

Any way, how close is isreal, to you? The reason I ask that is because I read an article with the following heading" Does obama really need the jewish vote?". They went to conclude that he needs every vote. But I have another question concerning isreal: would you send your kid/partner/family to protect isreal. Lets say isreal attacked iran (Lieberman is a gooooooood advocate for war) and iran defends itself. Would you be okay giving you blood for that cause.
Just my 2 cents.

The best part of aWol's comments about wanting to negotiate with terrorists is the U.S. senator he referred to as being clueless in 1939 was a Repugnican.

Of course, he also neglected to mentioned that a big chunk of the Bush family fortune comes from granddad Prescott Bush's dealings with the Nazis during the 1940s even after the U.S. entered the war.

Iran is also a functioning democracy. They elect crazies there, but thats our own damn fault (they also elect Jews, so nyahh).

If Israel were so stupid as to attack Iran, someone would have to hold me back from committing an act of war on Israel. It's just that idiotic.

But,,, yeah, I would be willing to defend Israel. Even if the dream is dead, there's still a smidgeon of me that hopes that Israel can still be a great country.

But the people in those IDIOTIC settlements aren't helping anyone but themselves.

I may be Jewish, but I'm a liberal too, and that means that I want peace. (I'm also tossing around in my head the idea of a Confederacy between Israel and Palestine. Particularly with the borders going to look so crazy, maybe they ought to cooperate some of the time).

The sad thing is no one in congress has the cajones to make anything stick against this gang of thugs. And every attempt is met with contempt. The Bush administration thumb their noses and congress makes soft whimpering noises.

This congress are Bush's enablers.

And that crap from Bush yesterday in Israel? Why doesn't someone ask Bush how successful his Iraq policy has been? This is the Rovian slime and deflect strategy and Obama and the Democrats had better get used to it and be prepared to deflect it right back from where it came.

If we are to consider Israel a great democracy, given the injustices inflicted upon those living within its borders, not even mentioning those atrocities it commits outside of its borders to protect democracy (read to advance its interests and ours), then we would be making the same mistake in regard to their "country" as we have in our "great" country. "greatness" is subjective, yet I find it difficult to consider any nation (or person) great when in doing so their flaws are not acknowledged. it is easy for us to support the creation of the Israeli nation and the methods it uses to maintain its existence, given our own history of oppression, theft, and unnerving disregard for the pain we've inflicted. Unfortunately for the Palestinians, their lives are as important as those of Native Americans. If they (like blacks and indigenous peoples in our land) have to make the ultimate sacrifices so that a country becomes great, then so be it right?

I noted you mentioned that their economy is part of what defines them as a democracy. Yet I wonder when capitalism became equated with democracy. Probably at the time we stopped equating democracy with citizen's rights to choose who and how they are governed and began judging democracies based on their american values (i.e. what corporations have told us our values are). seems like we've co-opted the term democracy to suit us in the same way the Bush administration has extended executive privilege to cover their cronies?

I agree with the commentator though...when did questioning the legality of Israel's actions automatically indicate that one was anti-Semite? In that vein, is privileging diplomacy and attack on patriotism?

Lehi (IPA: ['lɛxi], Hebrew acronym for Lohamei Herut Israel,

"Fighters for the Freedom of Israel",

לח"י - לוחמי חירות ישראל),

also known as the Stern Gang, was an armed underground Zionist faction in Mandatory Palestine that had as its goal the eviction of the British authorities from Palestine to allow unrestricted immigration of Jews and the formation of a Jewish state. Although the name of the group became "Lehi" only after the death of its founder, Avraham Stern, ...

Lehi was described as a terrorist organisation by the British authorities, the mainstream Yishuv, and by the United Nations mediator Ralph Bunche. Lehi was responsible for the assassination of Lord Moyne and other attacks on the British authorities. Jews were sometimes killed in these attacks, and occasionally targeted for assassination. Israel has honored the group by instituting the military decoration of the Lehi ribbon, which may be worn by the organization's former members.

Just another slimy politician. I don't feel sorry for him at all. It would be a real challenge to blame Rove for this.

Israel did everything they could to set up a Palestine State and Yasser turned them down. Hard to negotiate with people that want you to go away.

And believe me, a white Jewish boy, Bush, and the rest of these people could care less about Israel. It is ALL about politics and expediency.

Fun Facts about Israel/Middle East:
Every year at the Annual First Committee of the United Nations, held in the Fall in New York (first committee is the committee on disarmament) there is a proposal for a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone in the Middle East. Every year the vote comes to this: 189 nations FOR and 2 nations against: USA and Israel. Why? Because Israel has Nuclear Weapons. Israel is the ONLY country in the middle east with nuclear weapons. And, it is the reason they are only one of 3 countries (Israel, India and Pakistan) in the world that has not signed on to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, a treaty that for over 50 years has been credited for stemming the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Another "fun fact" about Israel... the overwhelming number of idiots that are proliferating the settlements in the occupied territories are AMERICANS!!!! It is the entitled assholes who go to Israel and push the settlements. Many Israelis HATE them and want them to go away because the settlements are a major roadblock to peace.

There is resistance to the occupation from Israelis... there are Israelis who very much want justice for the palestinians and who protest daily and others who resist by refusing to serve in the military. These are our allies for justice and peace and whom President Obama should be reaching out to when he works for negotiated peace in the region.

"what kind of democracy?) because we have been seduced by the hallucinations of Revelations: 1.I am not being anti-Semitic; "

interesting point anon. but it is lost on me, since I don't believe in the bible. My respect for Iisrael has nothing to do with Judaism as a religion.

Young woman on a journey, have you really studied what has gone on in Israel as it relates to the Palestinian homeland question? And don't get caught up in nsangoma's silly strawmen, I did not mention my respect for the Jewish people because I somehow felt that anyone else was being anti Semetic---I think that is called projection---I simply stated my feelings for the Jews and how they protect their interests as a people. And, by the way, how they fought alongside my people during the civil rights struggle.

Amd it's funny how we somehow want to call the "Lehi" tetrrorist for doing exactly what many people felt blacks should have done in this country, what some poor, Native Americans tried to do, and what some Palestinian groups continue to do in Israel and the Middle East.

So because they won that struggle their cause should be diminished?

And Jody, if I was a little ass country surrounded by mofos who wanted to wipe me fromt he face of the planet I would have nukes too. What's A-merry-ca's justification?

Anonymous said...

It's not anti-Semetic to disagree with Israel. It's not anti-Semetic to call for a one state solution (though us jews will be called "self hating jews" a term I absolutely despise as it silences debate).

What is anti-Semetic is when you (meaning not the upstanding Negros on this blog, but some other ones who ought to be hauled offstage) start talking about the "brown Palestinians" and the "white Israelis" (nevermind that sabras and Palestinians often look alike, nevermind that my relatives in Israel are black Yemeni Jews), and start alleging that Zionism is racism... Then we got a problem.

Call what's going on apartheid (and cite yer sources), but please, don't make it about racism.

There's a reason a lot of Jewish money walked away from the Civil Rights Movement -- a lot of people were hurt when blacks started bashing Israel after the 6 day war.

Criticize all you want -- we Jews certainly do! But keep it on the level.

Christopher Chambers said...

Um...if you ask Dr. Bunche's kids and read what his late widow had to say about this the "white Israeli" aspect to this they confirm it WAS and IS something ugly about it. European Jews have certainly played this up, and while I don't consider Zionism as racism, there is a bitter angle to it that plays upon race and frankly you all need to own up to it if you want have any semblance of peace.

As for the 6 day war, go back to the Suez Crisis and 56 war--to Nassar and African Nationalism and the US actually slapping England, France and Israel down. If taking Jewish $ means slavish cupidity for Israel and the silly notion that jews here or abroad can do no wrong, then good fricking riddance. Black folks were pretty silly in the late 60s but it was a natural progression and segment of our experience here, like puberty in a human, that, regrets,self-destruction or no, had to be experienced to in order to grow. No, we hadn't learned much but the experience is still there for us to claim. You all, hwever, are too arrogant to embrace anything. You feel you do not have to learn anything. Fortunately for you, your enemies (and now I mean Israel's enemies and not Jews in the US because, no--you have none. Not even us. We just aren't your lickspittles anymore) act insane and lack the pr skills--and the racial profile--thus you can always find sympathy.

So come back to this blog and stay on the level, and don't blame us for this crap. YOU demand too much, and that has always been the lesson you refuse to learn.

As Rove--lock the prick up in OZ and have Adebesi rape him...oops. Just kidding. ;-)

"And Jody, if I was a little ass country surrounded by mofos who wanted to wipe me fromt he face of the planet I would have nukes too. What's A-merry-ca's justification?"

Field, having nuclear weapons and/using them is not"defense", it is suicide! If Israel were to use its nuclear weapons on its neighbors, the nuclear fall out would kill Israelis as well.

As for the US... (as well as China, France, UK and Russia) there is no damn excuse. I want all countries to disarm, and for all you naysayers... it CAN be done. Look at South Africa. They had them and gave them up. Latin America and South Asia have Nuclear Weapons Free Zone Treaties. Instead of defending Israels illicit nuclear weapons, we should be demanding that ALL countries give them up, as they have been declared by International Courts as a violation of Human Rights and should be globally disarmed....

My point is the incredible hypocracy of the US government in attacking Iraq and threatening Iran arguing that they either had or were attempting to get nuclear weapons, which has been proven to be a lie, and yet we ignore Israels nuclear weapons, which do contribute to the instability of the region.

Nuclear Weapons create instability, they do not resolve it.

Anonymous said...

Nuclear weapons run on ENIACS create instability. At least a dozen times, we mistook pigeons for an all-out nuclear strike (the us and russia). Thank god we had a phone, and thirty minutes to decide whether that strike was real...

India and Pakistan have less than five minutes to make the same decision.

Israel's nuclear weapons aren't pointed at anyone, so they aren't much of a threat for ACCIDENTS. Only fools use nuclear weapons. And Iran ain't nobody's fool.

Christopher Chambers, it's on you to provide the links (looking up that Nobel Peace Prize winner is a new one for me, but wikipedia won't give me his kids' articles).

In 1939, 53% of Americans thought Jews were the worst sort of neighbors (someone did a poll). Racism applied to Jews was not a new thing, nor was it something that wasn't prevalent. There were plenty of people believin' that Jews were inferior stock, and those included happy Americans. There's a reason most Jews couldn't flee the Holocaust. It's called immigration quotas, and Is the main reason why to my dying day I will support the right of ANYONE to become an American.

Yes, by all rights, claim your experiences. Acknowledge when you were wrong.

I'll try to do similar. And I HATE AIPAC too. Unproductive people. Just like those black people on the streetcorner in NYC claiming to be "the only true Jews by way of Africa" (not to disparage the Hebrew faith. there are good people in that faith, just the street people are crazy, and just a bit scary).

It is wrong to burn down or bulldoze someone's home, with no remedy or relief. It is not wrong to ask the Arabs and Jews of Israel to defend themselves.

And terrorism is always wrong. Just ask the Anarchists from Russia (whom the Arab terrorists strongly resemble, in ideology. They are not religiously motivated, and they actually admire the ideals of the West. We got a lot to live up to, and we better start living up to it!)

classical one,

No, the 'ultimate power' is shared between the middle class and clerics. It's a co-equal system, with the clerics getting support from the middle class, who in turn can do whatever they please, so long as it is secret.

For instance, they can have clubs where men and women come together and get drunk (against Islamic teachings). But they have to do it discreetly.

Dymelisa,

Sorry for being so openminded as to ask for sources. I do apologize for NOT CARING about your race. ALL the poor folks hate the Jews, and it don't matter who, the Jews burn just the same [when I'm saying this, I'm speaking to the riots and the pogroms]. Exceptin' LA, where it was the Asianman burning. Jews in the ghetto work just as hard as you do, and it ain't their fault that their prices are higher than everyone else's (think they wouldn't lower prices if they could?). Everyone who is bumfuck poor hates the person who has a little more than they do. Particularly if that little richer person look different from you. This is a principle, and part of the reason I am so against poverty.

End of rant, and if you got a problem with it, I'm sure some folks burned some black people for being better than they were, too (I'd have to look for that, though, and I'm lazy today).

Seriously, this isn't being racist or anything. I'm just trying to say that I understand why people are people, and that everyone who is too poor hates everyone else who happens to live near by, and occasionally takes it out on them for being just a smidge better.

Field you really struck a rock with this one.

Karl Rove is proof that racism is alive and well I don't think a black person with the controversy this guy has had swirling around him would be chosen to serve as anyone's commentator. It always makes go how did they wind up using this guy?

I want to thank "the young woman on a journey" for shedding light on the confusion about what a democracy is. Capitalism and democracy are not the same in fact the free market thrives even more in totalitarian situations where workers have to take it or leave it and citizens have few legal rights. Yes the propagandists have made serious headway with that misconception.

And Anonymous my Jewish friend Jewish money did not walk away from the Civil Rights movement because of disagreement over the 6 day war, most working class Blacks hadn't even heard of it. They walked away because of their love of free market capitalism which was being criticized and challenged by just about all the progressive black leaders and groups of the time including one MLK. Yes some blacks did have problems with Israel's behavior but lets be clear. Liberal Jews like liberal whites only wanted to push the system so far during the Civil Rights Movement.

And brother Field its unfortunate that we don't have a bit more compassion for the oppressed Palestinians. If the news here presented the facts about the occupation the Palestinians are experiencing the same way they spent time putting a microscope up Rev. Wrights and Obamas behinds, we would be less cavalier in describing Israel as a democracy.

The first requirement of a democracy is that it be democratic.

And anonymous I feel you on not wanting to equate Zionism with racism and being more comfortable with the situation being termed "apartheid." But when your stuff stinks as Isreal's does you have to live with the descriptions of the smell.

I am appreciative that my Jewish friends that commented as well as their supporters did not handcuff anyone with the supposition that criticism of Israel makes one anti-Semitic. Personally, the way many supporters of Isreael have made uncritical support of Israel as proof that someone is not anti-Semitic really irks me. But it has done its job cause folks in this country are really afraid of being exposed to both sides of that conflict.

liberation then peace

Some people were honest caring people (and some of them did get scared off by crazy talk). When I talk about 'please don't call it racist' I say that because it is offensive, and offended people get hostile, and then nothing gets accomplished.
