Black poli-trick-ster alert!

Oh boy, here we go again, another black official "done went and done" me wrong post.

Can someone please tell me what is wrong with these Negroes? Why must they betray the public trust like this? Why does it seem like there is one of these elected house Negroes in every city and state?

Here is the thing Larry: All those folks who felt the wrath of Bull Conner's dogs and the sting of the fire hoses on their backs, didn't do it so that your black ass could get elected Mayor of their city one day, just to be able to fly up to New York and have Rolex watches and jewelry given to you at the expense of the interests of the citizens you serve. The days of lining your pockets just because you could are over. Didn't you get the memo? A black man is President now. You can't cry racism while stealing from us anymore, that crap will not fly in the age of Obama.

But field, the guy was charged with a crime, he was not convicted. As a lawyer you should know better than rushing to judgement like this. Yeah okay. Funny thing about those feds though, when they throw in all those indictments (101) they usually get you on at least one. But I am not a juror in a court room, I am a blogger writing in the Internet. And I don't have to use the legal standard to judge Mayor Langford. "Where there is smoke there is fire". Even if his dumb ass is ultimately found innocent of every count; just putting himself in this position makes him a disgrace to every person who literally fought with their blood to give us the right sto vote for him.

I can't tell you how sick I am of these phony ass black poli-trick-sters who forget where they came from and who they serve, as soon as they have their first meal at a five star restaurant, or their first ride in a chauffeured car. They make me sick. Say what you want about Barrack Hussein Obama; you might not agree with his politics, but I think we would all be pretty shocked if we heard that he ever sold out his elected office for money.

Here is hoping that if found guilty, this greedy scumbag, like "dollar Bill" and all the others who came before him, will do a nice long perp walk with some shiny bling on both of his wrists.

I'm willing to bet that the bribes he took wouldn't make a mortgage payment to prevent someone's house from going into foreclosure.

While I couldn't stand Tom DeLay, the Hammer had standards for bribery.

He wouldn't take a phone call from a briber for less than $50K - everything else you got from his office was in addition to the admittance fee.

Black Elected Officials must stop selling out for Chump Change and a prime rib dinner on Lobbyist's Row.

Field, I agree with your post. The man is a disgrace to the Black community. Sure, will say "Hey, the brother slipped up" yeah, what ever more like sold us down the river for some Bling.
He should not be treated any different than your average White Pol who gets caught doing dumb shit like this crap. As for Obama, he better keep hisself clean from shit like this in the future. I have feeling Obama is not as dumb though as this fool Larry was.

I'm about as annoyed as you are with people's constant running into the law. In this "post-racial" world we live in, we're sure having a hard time staying away from the spotlight. If it's not him, it's Charles Rangel, and not him, then Kwame Kilpatrick. And the worst part is that these are the ones that get highlighted and broadcast. There's so much fewer of us that naturally, these people will be highlighted more. It's like math: the bigger the denominator, the smaller the fraction. So because we have a bigger denominator (number of people), the one person who gets highlighted tends to be a bigger deal than let's say a Ted Stevens (whose denominator is significantly larger in this country). Oh man.

But here's the thing, Anonymous. You ARE treating him different. Why shouldn't you be able to be a sleazy scumbag if you are black? Not that I'm endorsing sleaze, but it seems unfair that you are taken as a representative as the whole race instead of just being a random soon-to-be-forgotten scumbag as would be true of a white scumbag.

Field,

I don't know anything about Larry, but I'm guessing I'll be hearing about him soon. But it reminds me of when Bill Campbell (whose name I share and people just had to call me "Mayor" all the time) was up on his charges. He screamed RACISM because he was for affirmative action in the '90s when everybody else was against it. The most convoluted argument I think I've ever heard in my life.

Also, I agree with rhapsodyinbooks. Though I don't think our forefathers fought explicitly for the right of our politicians to be just as corrupt as their white counterparts, they did earn that right for our busted-ass bruthas & sistas. I'm not trying to be cynical here. It's sad--but it's true. The saddest part is when our brothers and sisters re-elect the likes of William Jefferson back into office. I betcha that's what Langford's going to be betting on.

The big difference here between the Black shit Larry reflecting bad on our race is that no Whites had to put up with Bull Conner crap for there right to vote. This guy wasted away what many people fought and died for so he can get a little bling on the side. In a perfect world Larry the thief would be judge on his own merits. But I live in the real world and he just made it harder for future minority Pols that will run.

William Jefferson, Marrion Barry etc.. All these fools keep getting re-elected. Why? Because Black folk tend to give people a million second chances. Especially, if said Pol shows them a little love. But then again Ted Stevens (Who's White) corrupt ass almost got re-elected up in Alaska. So, Whites, Asians and Latinos have they share of crooked public officials. It just hurts for Blacks more because we fought so hard just to get the right to vote. And this shit looks so wasteful!

I co sign with anon. on this one. These clowns make it hard for the next pol who comes along and who might have real good ideas and a work ethic to go along with them.

But the system wants guys like Larry running things. He is the one that the lobbyist can get to with their golf trips and fancy gifts.

And whoever said he will probably get elected again is right. We always fall for that okey doke. Sad but true.

Yes we should have the right to f**k up as much as the guy from the majority population. But it doesn't mean we have to. Hell we can't afford to. Our people really do need these pols to look out for their interest.

Field, I'm asking that you not rush to judgement in this case. After all this is happening in Bombingham Alabama. The father of Denise McNair, one of the 4 little girls killed in the church bombing was indicted. They recently indicted Rev. E.B. McLain, a well known civil right leader. Two other African American Democratic elected officials have also been indicted and let's not forget former Governor Don Siegelman who claims to have been a victim of Karl Rove. You might want to do a little research before you rush to judgement on this one. Where there's smoke theres fire.

Maybe, just maybe, we can have a new generation of politicians that do not engage in this kind of cheap, stupid, selfish, thoughtless, behavior. I couldn't help but notice that all these dudes, both black and white, are all gray heads.....

Alright anon. 10:55PM, you make a strong case, and I like your passion, so I will do some research.......okay did it. And guess what? In my mind. (just in mine)he is guilty as charged.

And I know all about the heart of Dixie and the kind stuff that can go on down there. They have a histroy. But sorry, these kind of pols have a history too.Just too much of this kind of crap goes on out here for my taste. The folks you mentioned might have been innocent, and if they are, I hope they walk on all those charges. But this guy.....

I agree with the sentiments that rhapsodyinbrooks expressed and the follow-up by boukman70.Nuff Said!

Larry is not the future of politics, or the end of political shenanigans. Black politicians will be just fine!

Anonymous said...

It's all about tribal politics. Ted Stevens is tribal politics. Marion Barry was tribal politics. These guys in Birmingham are probably tribal politics. I hate to say it, but when 98% of black people voted for Obama, there was tribal politics. Bush Jr. was tribal politics.

There isn't any white tribal politics because the white tribe is too big, except for maybe in a couple states in the deep South. Usually among whites, there will be the Irish tribe, or the Italian tribe, or the white Christian evangelical tribe.

Among blacks, there will be the black tribe. Maybe at times the low-down black ghetto tribe (Marion "The Bitch Set Me Up" Barry). Among whites in Alaska, the Ted "I Delivered a Pallet-Load of Pork" Stevens tribe. Among tongue-talking white megachurch Christians, the Sarah Palin tribe.

Tribes subdivide. In California, there was the black Obama tribe, which became the black I-hate-homos tribe. Just like Jamaica. Not all of it, but enough of it. In Georgia, there is the white suburban and small town tribe that just re-elected the scumbag Saxby Chambliss.

Tribal politics is a fact of life. Always has been, always will be. But there needs to be an offset of people who will say, "There is a set of standards that applies to all the tribes no matter what." Those people are the ones with courage and honesty.

Jody I made a similar observation about the age of these characters, or perhaps it's just wishful thinking.

Whatever the case, I have a problem with stereotyping and more faith in people.

Christopher said...

Langford is a particular douchebag hypocrite.

He refused to issue a mayoral proclamation for Birmingham Pride because he "doesn't agree with the lifestyle."

Lifestyle? A lifestyle is being a vegetarian or jogging 5 miles each morning before work.

Langford is reaping what he sowed and he's not likely to find much sympathy.

Christopher Chambers said...

Seligman's innocent. But these other folk? Perhaps making an example out ofd them can be weak-ass Eric Holder's first act (after renewing stuff like civil liberties, consumer protection and anti trust). As for this scion of the Civil Rights Movement largess request I have two words for you: MLKing's children. Feathering your own next negates your pedigree.

Speaking of pedigree Field, Aunt Jemima and I have attacked media sacred cow-calf Luke Russert on our blogs. We anticipate flak. Can you provide cover?

Anonymous said...

So Field, what about presumption of innocence? These are allegations made by the Bush justice department remember? Remember Obama is a muslim? How about Obama pals around with terrorist? How about Michelle Obama and the Whitey tapes? Just because Langford is homophobic doesn't make him guilty of the crimes of which he's been accused, not convicted. As for me and my house, we will wait and see.

Hey, I just looked up some of the people you mentioned at they have similar charges as Larry the Thief. If Karl Rove is involved I would love to know how he made some of these folks pled guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery?!..

Some these charges look like serious and like certain folks got there hands caught in the cookie jar.

Brother Field.... somedays I just say "oh no,not again" Cleary his age shows that he is a product of times when he had a direct feel for what is right. Working and serving us (the people) was the paramount goal. I quess on the road to Equalityville, he lost Integrity and Honesty. B-Ham has a hellava lot of needs and there in the cradel of the struggle, this brother lost his soul. Often I understand how other people have a distrust of the Blackman. By the way I always say "I don't care what others do... I want my people to do the right thing. This new Obama-age is one of those - "be careful what you ask for". Maybe today Thru. there will be some good news of something good that my people is doing. Then again I know that I will give it a 100 percent to do the right thing and somehow in "knowing you {by Blog-site}", I see the journey can go on. Represent.

Oh I tell ya Black people can be their own worst enemies. We can talk about corrupt white politicians all day (and how they're usually Rethugs)! We know there's a double standard Black tax so why even complain about it when Black people mess up? And for $200K+? That's just pathetic.

Some Black people are so willing to look the other way because everyone has lowered their standards and have this "must defend (Criminal) Black men" ethos because somehow the racism is the enemy. No they are the enemy and we get NOTHING for defending and excusing them.

I don't see people taking notes on Obama. He is squeeky clean but shrewd, he married a regular (and brilliant) Black woman, they don't have debt, they pay all their bills, they have no scandals, no out of wedlock kids on the sides and don't have an inferiority complex.

If more of "us" were like "them" WE could focus on actually accomplishing something and get rid of these leeches.

Please tell me "101" counts is a typo. Let me click over to the article...and get more background info. It's too early in the morning for me.

And what is it about Philly and crazed gunmen? It's happening here in St. Louis too....but there's something about Philly. The latest... a shooting at a K-mart.

St. Louis had a fireman shot to death several weeks ago.... he was off duty...and had pulled over to help what he thought was a stranded motorist... It turned out to be an ambush...it was a set up for a carjacker... who shot him and took his city owned fire department car. Police eventually had to shoot him.

A few weeks after that... a suburban St. Louis officer..working the neighborhood where I grew up.. was shot to death (shot in the head by a guy who snuck up to the car) while sitting in his car doing paperwork...minding his business.

A few months back there was another fireman (suburbs) shot to death by a nut, while he was responding to a fire call. No motive.

I'm already taking steps to arm myself and slowly stocking up on survival stuff...and canned goods. It's getting crazy.

And these fools from last week... trampling the Wal-mart worker...and the Toys R Us shooting... the NYC bus driver killed on the job...that should be confirmation to anyone still wondering...

This Country is sick!
This World is sick!

Thanks StillaPanther2, we all have to represent and call BS when we see it. A.I.,Philly is a mess with the killings and the guns. A good friend of mine just told me that his son was recently arrested for shooting some kid on a crowded street. Shocked the hell out of me, because I thought I knew the kid and he seemed like a good person. Hey, it must be something in the water.

Which makes what these crooks do even more sad. There is so much to focus on and to try and get right.

C .Chambers, I peeped those posts you are talking about. I saw Aunt Jemima's over at the "Left In Alabama" site. Gues what? I agree with both of you. But hey man, it's called nepotisim. Unfortunately, when black folks get a hook up it's called Af. Action. :)

most of the peps in this country (all racess) moral compasses are so messed up we'll never get it straighted out- look at chris calling him a douchbag because he wouldn't make somekind of special gayday, never mind he's mostly a criminal? You know Field, I'm starting to make use of beliefs or theories similar to tales like the NOI's Yakub story...check this:

There once was a society that was nearly perfect in all aspects of humanity, save mother nature, when an abnormality occurred in the gene pool. When these abnormalities were born and raised, the normal populace didn't think much of it until they grew of age and exibited some odd behavior (butchering the native language, lying, stealing, causing bodily harm, etc.). Thinking this might be some sort of mental birth defect, the docs/scientists started investigating and issuing public service announcements informing the citizens of their concerns. These abnormalities became very mischeivous, animalistic creatures causing chaos in the social fabric when performing the opposite actions of the current forms of society. Interbreeding was another issue with these "weirdos", increasing the problems. After much intervention by the society, an unprecendented move was made by the high chief & council: Banishing them from the area via exodus.

A millenia later and after years of interbreeding, a peculiar character arose from this exiled populace seeking revenge after hearing the local "tabloid gossip" about their former surroundings, similar to some of today's distorted religious stories.

"It" started gaining the knowledge and wisdom of it's former residence through deceit, mistrust, and outright thievery. "It" also took notice of it's former residence continuing with normal life with their tendancy to "stagnate progress" in "It's" eyes. They were sort of like a normal green movement, socialist, and equal rights protectors. "It" wanted the power, glory, and wealth with a few in tow to bolster it's pride-an exact oppostite of a high chief/council...sort of like a "Phantom Menace". Gaining followers labeled "sheeple" and creating various gizmos & funny-looking tools, "It" decided to take it's goal to the world-wide stage, manipulating the hearts and minds of the commoners while rewriting every law known at that time for it's own cause...

...which brings us to our current status on planet Earth. You can pretty much figure out the rest!

I really do not understand the psychology of some people. I do not know if Mayor Lanford is guilty of anything, but we in the black community of supporting these politicians who are crooks. I still do not understand how people re-elected Marion Berry as mayor. I did not feel bad when Sharp James was convicted because he had been taking kick backs for years while the City of Newark was going to deeper and deeper into high unemployment and poverty, but people loved him because he was black. Sharp James would only be seen when it was an election year. He came to the annual Newark Picnic (which is never held in the City of Newark) in his Rose Royce, and it still did not resonate in people's mind that he was making everyone look like a fools and pretty much should have said suckers. Unbelievable.

Bribery and money laundering in connection with municipal bond and derivative deals, is some serious shit.

Once the Feds were hipped to the charges and stepped into the fray, Langston's goose was cooked.

In Murika, few things carry more weight in the legal pantheon than issues of money. You can kill a man and get out of prison in 7 years, but rob a bank and you're going to do at least 20 years -- maybe longer.

Money talks. Murder walks.

Well, I think if you've committed a crime you should be prosecuted. How do people think that they won't get caught? It's mind boggling. Too many people put themselves in the position of being bribed. Fuck that. If you do wrong admit to it. Don't try to delay by bribery, it will come out in the end. Minorities need to be especially careful, perhaps it's not fair but what is? They need to be aware of the decisions they make.

Never will this be seen as any sort of "par for the course" for some of those in your favored party.

How are you doing otherwise man? I haven't talked to you lately.
