Sorry Scooter

looks like you won't be getting that pardon. Oh well, I guess it's time for you to write that tell all book. Come on Scooter, throw us all a bone. Think about the huge advance you will get. You are still a felon, so you can kiss your law license good bye. --It's a shame, because I hear that you were a very good lawyer----So what are you going to do for an income? I have a few ideas: you could black mail Cheney, (he has lots of money to pay you), you could go back to Texas with the frat boy and help him raise funds for his presidential library, and you could try to get a job in D.C. with the help of your rich republican friends. But I am sure that none of those are options that you would be willing to consider. And I can't really say that I blame you; you want what they got out of the deal.

I know that conservatives are about to go into an apoplectic state over this, and how can you blame them? They begged and pleaded with the frat boy to pardon Scootter, and he gave them his ass to kiss. But I know why he is not pardoning Scooter. Think about it: with a presidential pardon and no chance of being prosecuted, old Scooter can't plead the 5th. So this is a brilliant political move by the frat boy, it keeps Scooter's mouth closed.

Anyway, I know one person who isn't pleased about the non pardon of Scooter.

"Scooter Libby is one of the most capable and honorable men I've ever known. He's been an outstanding public servant throughout his career. He was the victim of a serious miscarriage of justice, and I strongly believe that he deserved a presidential pardon. Obviously, I disagree with President Bush's decision."

I am sure he is "capable and honorable"Dick. And I am sure some of those capabilities went a long way in helping you to achieve your goals.

Scooter was a pawn sacrificed in game of power. He is now a living cautionary tale of what happens to people who play in games of powerful people but aren't actually deciding the moves of the play.

Now thT President Obama seems to be going about restoring the rule of law, I can only hope that the Bush regime will be investigated and charges will be forthcomng....

Today Obama signed the papers to not only close Gitmo but all secret CIA prisons.... And the very next thing he did was bring in Holbrooke and Mitchell to be dispatched to address the Israel/Palestine conflict. He understands that there cannot be stability in the Middle East until this crisis is resolved.

Wow, to have a president that I am proud of..... Its making me giddy!

He deserved a pardon. He was guilty of violating legal parliamentary rules as I understand it. I wish him well.

Now my rant. My 9 year old child had to watch the Obama media celebration all day Monday. I spent 2 hours working on a MLK poster with him tonight and enjoyed teaching him about Martin because he was cool and a very important and influential American. That really cannot be understated and my child now knows that. But damn, waste a whole day of learning for that? We CANNOT know how his term will work out now and the morons that worship him like a sun god are making me sick. And Jody, I like Murtha's idea of sending them to PA. That should work out great.

Here there may have been some pointed words b/w W and Uncle Dick, so say the sources. W has always apparently been funky about pardons--not as much to his credit as more owing to his weak mindedness, per my old now unemployed pals in old AG Mukasey's office.

szpork,

Woo, big fucking deal that you worked on MLK posters!

I'm vomiting right now from your stinking bs.

Maybe your brain couldn't grasp understanding the celebration of President Obama because your head was jammed too far up your @ss and it killed off your remaining 2 brain cells.

Take that.....Beyoooooootch!

GWB walked away with an "F" and an "U" to Dick Cheney and friends.

After Cheney screwed up his legacy, but dumb GWB listening and believing him? Shit, we know GWB says poll numbers don't matter, but they DO. He tried his hardest to plead his case to the American public and they turned the channel.

In the end the public wanted GWB and crew to just go away and never come back.

Scooter lost out of this, being loyal. Of course, Dickey was pleading for him, but GWB turned his back to him.

Many books will be written, because a shit load of folks needed preemptive pardons and they did not get them.

I understand and appreciate the significance of the Inauguration, but I've already become tired of the hero worship. And I don't pay proterty taxes for the Public Schools to indoctrinate my kids. Obama has done nothing, not a nock on him, but people treat him like JFK. And he ummm started the Vietnam war?

Now, now szechuan.

Perhaps you grasp the significance of the first African-American president but IMO that is not the biggest reason why BHO's inauguration and young presidency have garnered such praise and attention.

I'm not one to pay too much attention to firsts. Great! That's about as much praise as BHO will get out of me for being black and president. What I DO admire about the man is that he is not some cynical poli pandering for votes. He believes he can change America for the better and the majority of Americans and the Electoral College agreed with him. The attention paid to him is in no small measure due to the stinking legacy of GWB. Many may disagree with me but 44 owes 43 a debt of gratitude for paving the road to the White House. Having said that, Barack Obama is the right man for the right time and he capitalized on the moment masterfully.

As time passes and the administration has its highs and its lows the hysterics will come down out of the clouds and we can all agree that President Barack Obama is human just like the rest of us, albeit an incredibly intelligent and gifted one.

One final thought, sz! Be happy for your fellow Americans! many are experiencing for the first time the democratic process that has made our republic great. Some are ecstatic that the last 8 years have come to an end and for the promise of the next eight. Don't be salty if you can help it.

Hey szpork, do you realize how funny you are? Here were are, two days into Obama's term, and he's already frying your circuits. Hoo boy! By the time this is over with, they're going to be using your skull as a microwave oven, with no need to plug in a cord. Ha ha ha! Wingnut!

Szpork, do you know how idiotic you sound? Schools have always shown the inaugurations and now you want to complain because your child's school had the audacity to do what they've probably done every 4 years of their existence...oh wait...something's different this time...wait...what is it...trying to put my finger on what's so offensive to you about THIS inauguration.....hmmmm...what could it be.....

@szpork:

Sz..... we have in this country (Colorado, Kansas, Washington State, Minnisota) these prisons called "Super Max".... they are more than capable of holding these prisoners. They in fact, in some ways, are even worse than Guantanamo. Persons are in small cells with no windows 23 hrs a day in isolation. They have NO human contact, only through thick glass do they speak to anyone, and they were designed for the "worst of the worst." They already exist. They are not overcrowded and could easily house those prisoners until their cases were evaluated for release or trial. The Egyptian man who was convicted of the Trade Center explosion in 93 currently resides in the Super Max in MN.
Murtha is full of shit suggesting PA could take them. Ou state prisons have multiple lawsuits against them for overcrowding and unsafe conditions. And, those legislators who stood up yesterday and played the fear card of not wanting these prisoners in your neighborhood are full of shit too.... anyone who knows the least little thing about our prisons, Especially the Super Max ones, knows that is a bull shit arguement. In fact the prison industry promotes prisons by talking about how safe they are in communities and how they promote jobs for the locals.
I am no fan of prisons, but to suggest that we do not have the capacity to deal with those held at Guantanamo is just patently a lie.

Read very carefully and I am sure that even you can see that given the documented dates in history, JFK could not have started the Viet Nam war. You obviously did not benefit from whatever school you went to. Just a simple google search and you could keep from making such idiotic statements!

The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, or the Vietnam Conflict, occurred in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia from 1959 to April 30, 1975. U.S. involvement escalated in the early 1960s and combat units were deployed beginning in 1965. Involvement peaked in 1968 at the time of the Tet Offensive.

JFK, the thirty-fifth President of the United States, serving from 1961 until his assassination in 1963.

Sfd928. JFK began sending in army special forces to train the locals. I thing the UN asked the USA to get involved if I remember my history correctly.

6 hours of TV is insane regardless of the event.

One of the major accomplishments of the Obama Administration will the return of the Rule of Law in this country.

To accomplish that, the guilty need to be tried, and if convicted...

Punished.

The guilty, in this case being a large segment of the former administration.

President Obama isn't letting any grass grow under his feet...

2 days into office he has already rescinded some of the Bushit that has hurt America.

Closing the CIA Prisons and Gitmo...

Removing restrictions on US Government funding of groups providing abortion services or counseling...

Removing the Bushit roadblock on Stem Cell research.

And in a return to sanity -

Challenging China on artificially manipulating their currency...

Sending an adult to try and make some sanity in the Middle East.

Damn! Now if all the right-wingdizzies who were appointed by the Bushit would just up and off themselves, clearing the way for a return to Constitutional Law and Justice...

Things would just be off to a perfect start.

Tyren, will you back that statement up with a link? That's news to me if it involves the USA. The only criticizim of Obama I've ever posted here was that he was cocky and was mishandling the media. Go back and look it up if you want.

Thanks, szpork

JFK didn't start the mess in Viet Nam. It goes back to the 1940s when Truman sold out the Vietnamese to the French. The U.S. promised to support the Vietnamese bid for independence (they were tired of being a French colony) in exchange for Vietnamese help against the Japanese during WWII. WWII ended, and we reneged and backed the French instead. Eisenhower's the one who sent in the first military advisers, to help the Vietnamese in the south after the French bailed out, not JFK, so that disaster was actually a bipartisan fuck-up.

Looks like I was wrong about JFK. My bad. I guess he is famous for being the first Catholic Prez, or starting the Peace Corps, or maybe his handling the Bay of the Pigs? I still don't understand the Camelot reaction that happened then.

Szpok,
I get the impression you weren't there or old enough to remember. Early television televised the inauguration and the parade in its entirety. Kennedy appealed to a post war generation; a President probably not old enough to be your father, appearing modern and inspiring in his speeches. The fist generation out of the burbs, somewhat isolated from the familial extended family, knowing the fear of the cold war and becoming aware of injustices; sought a young, charismatic person to lead them forward in the 20th century. Old war heroes didn't speak to their generation.

You may not have been impressed or moved or agreed with Kennedy's politics, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to understand why others were.

Hathor, I was born the year JFK was killed and growing up, he was just treated with this weird reverence. I inherited a LIFE mag of his assasinat@n when I was 18 and promptly gave it away. If he had done half the things MLK jr. did, I wouldn't even question it, but damn, I don't think he did. I guess I'm just ready for Obama to get over this stage, not his fault I know, and move on. He has talked about Lincon a lot lately but I guess he'll emulate FDR more. What would really make me happy ( I know you're reading this, Obama) is for you to become a leader that future presidents will aspire to be.

You can start throwing the coins and bills in my direction now. Thanks, szpork

Thinking of this and what Bush’s legacy will be makes me think of Marlon Brando’s “I coulda been somebody” speech in On The Waterfront.

”You don't understand. I coulda had class. I coulda been [a good president]. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it. It was you, [Dick, Rove, Ashcroft, etc.]

I think that not pardoning Libby is a sign that he will eventually get it, that once he is no longer surrounded by the yes-men who manipulated him for their own greed he will understand how he allowed himself to be used.

George H.W. Bush pardoned the guys who did the dirty work for him and St. Ronnie during Iran-Contra.

Bill Clinton pardoned Susan McDougal, who did 22 months of hard time rather than rat him out.

George W. Bush gave the finger to those people who stepped over the line for him. In his (mal)administration, loyalty only went one way.

I'm not at all surprised.
