TRUCE!

There is a classic song from one of my favorite R&B groups, the Spinners. And the words go something like this: "It takes a fool to learn that love don't love nobody..." Now I don't know if my man Barack knows that song or not, but I would suggest that if he doesn't, he might want to listen to it.

I saw the debate tonight. I saw how the "O" man made nice with Hillary, and how they were both saying all the right things to each other. It was truly a Kumbaya moment for the dems. Hillary looked presidential in the debate, and in the eyes of many pundits, she probably won it.

Obama played nice. He rose above the pettiness and chastised the people in his camp for fighting back against the Clinton machine. Barack turned the other cheek. Way to go "O" man, that's what Jesus would have done. But then, Jesus isn't running against Hillary Clinton for President of these Divided States. But I get it, in order to win the presidency you will need a miracle, so you might as well act like the man that can give it to you.

Still, I don't totally blame Barack. What was he going to do? He was running as the race neutral icon, America's Bagger Vance, he had to put down this racial dust up by saying, enough! White folks were not going to vote for him if he was perceived as the angry black man who called out Hillary for her racially insensitive attacks. After all, to white folks, what Hillary and her minions did wasn't so bad; why are black folks so sensitive? Barack you aren't like that are you?
You heard Tim Russert tonight after the debates; "it's time to move on to more substantive issues than race." "MORE SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES THAN RACE"? OK Tim, at least you are honest.

So the truce between Barack and Hillary is in full effect, and now all Hillary has to do is hope that black folks have a short memory.

Certain white folks won't forget these Karl Rove-like days from the Clinton campaign.

Straight from the Rove playbook. 04--release the minions to go after Kerry, but have W. "above the fray." 00--put fliers on cars in SC Baptist churches about McCain's "Black Child."

06--The Clintons allow others to do their dirty work (today, Charles B. Rangel) while simultaneously calling a "truce" to a "war of words" that was of their own making.

Disgusting.

Long time no see. Hope things are well in your part of the world.

On with the show.

I have to admit, the "race neutral" stance is one of the aspects of Obama that turns me off. I'd love to see an "angry" candidate for once, white or black.

I know a lot of whites are afraid of the "angry black male," and maybe I'm an anomaly, but shit, if you're not angry at this point you may as well be dead.

I guess when I watch Obama he comes across as contrived. Yeah, acting like Jesus is great, but Jesus didn't live in America, and he didn't have to deal with Chimpy.

I'd just like to see some real emotion from these people instead of the choreography.

I also find myself wondering at times what exactly Obama believes. He seems so interested in not "offending" anyone I get the impression he stifles himself.

We don't need "Kumbaya," we need someone to take charge, and to fight back. The Wingnuts have no interest in holding hands. They've completely undermined this country, and jeopardized the stability of the entire world.

They need to be treated like the criminals they are. I don't want to hear about "bi-partisanship" or extending the "olive branch" (Unless he plans on smacking them with it).

I know he's in a precarious situation, and has to be careful, but if that's the case then even if he's elected he will always have to be careful.

We don't need another inauthentic President, regardless of the reason.

This is just my opinion, but, if most white people are only supporting Obama because he seems "safe," that support will fade when it comes down to brass tacks.

Not that I'm the official spokesman for Caucsylvania or anything, but I have spent a lot of time there visiting and such.

Oh, and I'm not defending Shillary at all.

@ Billy Hoyle, I'm with you. I have no idea how people can't see through Hillary Clinton and the games she's playing. The woman is shrewd and manipulative, which ultimately means she's gonna be hard to beat.

It's funny that Obama took the high road. I put up a sketch comedy video on my site yesterday morning where Obama begins by taking the high road to the criticism, then gets fed up, and goes WWE on the other candidates like The Rock. Hope you find it amusing:

If You Smell What Barak Is Cooking"

The Black community in Michigan voted for Uncommitted by 70%.

I thought that was a good thing. :)

He took the high road...he's better than I am.

And, I'm glad others see the BS coming through...calling a ' truce' and then having Handkerchief Heads like Rangel attack Obama.

This is why I am not 100% hot on him the way I was for Dean or Kerry 4 years ago. Kerry was quiet but he had something going for him and Dean was adamant and passionate and I respected that.

Hell even Nader had something to say!

I understand he is trying to play his position but if you don't stand for something your ass will fall for anything and this "kindness," this turning of the other cheek isn't endearing him to white americans that much anyway. In Michigan, even though it doesn't count, they rode hard for their girl. According to CNN.com even if he was on the pole he would've lost.

I want him to stop playing nice, and just PLAY. It's time to come out of the shell and let it be known. Okay I get it. You are nice, you have a good game, you are bringing hope to the table, but I haven't heard him strike.

Obama needs to peep game:

Your favorite R&B group is the Spinners? *Shazammm* How you old are you actually? AARP age *lol*

For a while now, I had been on the fence about the candidates. But now all the dirt is starting to come out. And I was so shocked at Rangel's comments. Evidently, he's trying to get a promise of a cabinet position if Clinton wins. I really don't see how Rangle can let Clinton off the hook after she put her foot down her throat behind those Lyndon B. Johnson/ Marting Luther King comments. And Robert Johnson wasn't a shocker. He always makes time in his day to put down black folks. Shux, he became a billionaire by dropkicking us. He's just base. But why doesn't he just sit down somewhere and shut up?

This election is nothing more than a circus with many sideshows. I'm still not believing that this country will vote for a black man or a woman. Once Clinton gets finished making a fool of herself and mainstream America finally admits that it can't "actually" see themselves voting for a black man, Edwards will be able to stroll in there to get the Democratic nomination. Let's just call'em like we see'em.

Let's see how many days until one of the Borg Queen's supplicants smear Obama again.

My prediction is, if the Borg Queen loses a big mealticket state like California on Super Tuesday, girlfriend will pull out all the stops and will begin race-baiting once more.

This broad and her philandering husband are addicted to power and they will stop at nothing to hold onto it.

The irony is, if the Borg Queen is the Democratic nominee, start practicing saying "President John McCain," because at least 50% of the American people will not vote for her under any circumstances.

All the more reasons why Barack Obama must never make nicey-nicey with the Clintons. If he does, he will lose the nomination to her.

Thomas said...

I think Clinton's strategy was to goad Obama into accusing her of race-baiting, at which point she could play the shocked innocent and many white Americans would think "Oh, right, he's another Al Sharpton, harping on that tired old racism thing again. So much for being a hopeful uniter." Net result: fewer white votes for Obama.

I think to some extent it probably worked, although it might have backfired a little by angering the darker-skinned contingent more than she bargained for. Then again, maybe she just made a cold calculation: "More white folks than black folks out there, so it's probably a net gain for me. Let's go for it."

In that context, Obama had no choice but to play nice. It would be satisfying to see him really be honest and hit her for it, but that would be it for his campaign.

Hi Field:

Heard you on the online broadcast of "To the point". You and William Jelani Cobb were excellent. I live in Charleston, SC which state Sen. Robert Ford represents. Please don't judge us to harshly :-). Not all of us knee-grows down here voted for him. It infuriated me when he completely dissmissed yours and Mr. Cobb's points on Hilary's standing with blacks down here. You guys are on point. Mr. Ford is not exactly in touch with the community he claims to represent. Listening to him made me think of Uncle Ruckus on the Boondocks. The way he was fawning all over Hilary.

Also, I know you've written about this before, but could you explain a little about your reluctance to support Barack? What about his policies, background, etc that make you so reluctant to put a Obama '08 button on? Thanks!

I'm a little bit tired of Barack taking the high road. how many times is someone gonna talk trash about you before you show some backbone and say something back? He's starting to get a little Tiger Woods-ish to me and it annoying.

My favorite candidate last night was John Edwards. He didn't have a problem distancing himself from Hillary, nor criticizing some of her stances.

Until whites have been discriminated and have endured bigoted treatment at the hands of someone else not like them, race will never be a "substanitive" issue for them, so there you go.

Race is a highly substantive issue for those who are smart enough to see it as such. Pumpkinhead is not smart enough, otherwise he wouldn't have made the comments.

He's as bad as Chris Matthews - they need to let Tom Brokaw moderate these debates and exclude MSM pundits with hidden agendas (i. e. Russert and Matthews dislike Hillary, and only tolerate Barack, while they completely diss Edwards and ignores Kucinich).

That's it and that's all, folks.

Well Well. I am finally hearing the Obama fever dissipate. Gladly, Obama is not a fighter for anyone but Obama. He does not have the fire in the belly to fight for black folks. You all heard Tim Russert say let's get beyond this race stuff to some more important stuff like what?
Hell, Hillary ran circles around that man last night. I keep pleading that no of the these candidates in either party are worth anything. They all are politicians and only care about themselves. Obama with his Tiger Woods acting ass is gonna have to grow a pair and tell the truth about Hillary. Damn, white folks got this country on lock just like they always have. You cannot talk about race or you are playing the race card. Can anyone explain to me what the f*ck is a race card? I am sick of having our lives dictated and silenced behind silly little games like the race card or white folks don't want no disscussion of race. Boo hoo mofos try living as a black person in this hell hole called America and tell me race does not matter.

This is off topic about some shit I witnessed last night.

I've long thought that black Americans make way to much of an issue about race issues. Last night I had to rethink my whole line of thought on this topic.

I fired up my Xbox 360 for some multiplayer action. Connected to a game lobby where what sounded like teen to adult players were telling black jokes. Yes the N-word was used many times with alot of laughing by the players. I wasn't shocked...suprized and disgusted would be more accurate. I filed a complaint with Xbox Live which will have logs of the convo as well as IPs.

If this is an indication of young white America...your country is in much worse shape than I ever suspected.

I was impressed and, frankly, a little amazed that so many blacks in Michigan voted "uncommitted" instead of H for Hillary. I've always thought that a blog like this only tapped into young black literati but it's becoming more clear to me that it sometimes reflects the larger black community.

I'm *really* curious as to what will happen in South Carolina. If Obama can win there by a large margin, Hillary will know that she's made a major miscalculation, and you can expect her numbers to drop as white Dems start worrying that she has turned off the black vote so much that she won't be able to patch together the Rainbow Coalition enough to pull one through in November.

But if Obama loses a state with a 50% AA vote, expect his campaign to start the long slide into oblivion. South Carolina is way, way more important for him than it is for her.

Why are you amazed, Jimbo? Ever since the Borg Queen sent out Charlie Rangel and Tubbs-Jones out to do hits on Obama, the Michigan results, even with Obama and Edwards' names off the ballot, should probably have been expected.

The Black people sent Hillary a loud message, should she choose to hear it: "Your bringing race into this campaign opened our eyes and reminded us that you're not BILL."

And they went for "Undecided".

However, Obama can't continue to tap dance around race; he must figure out a way to directly address the issue, otherwise he won't get "Undecided" either, and will continue to lose the rest of us for playing nice when he needs to put his game face on and come out swinging strategically.

If he doesn't, we're stuck with learning how to say "President McCain"....

luv, you're not living up to your name. Then, maybe, you are.

Great calling out. Anyway, Obama's using the Jackie Robinson approach. It got blacks into major league baseball, it may do the same for the US presidency.

If Robinson was breaking the color barrier today, I'm afraid that he would be attacked pretty much in the same manner as Obama.

During the Civil Rights movement, even MLK was attacked for his non-violent stance. Many blacks didn't like his pacifism.

Many of the criticisms leveled at Obama here and elsewhere remind me of those leveled at him.

Now, MLK is lauded as the great leader he was.

Anonymous said...

Some of Jesus' followers didn't like his pacifism either. No, I'm not comparing anyone to Jesus.

Obama MADE the attacks backfire by not rising to the bait, which is just what Hillary wanted. He had faith that progressives are smart enough to see through the tactic and know that the Clintons were behind it. He was right.

But that's not enough for some. Black folks have an obsession with our leaders proving their bona-fides by tell the Man "the truth to his face." If a brotha isn't threatening enough, he isn't "real." It's a cynical worldview that we as a people have yet to move past where displaying class and grace is seen as "weakness".

For some black people, if we aren't discussing race all the time, it's not "keeping it real." As someone pointed out elsewhere here, the issues that confront this country affect black people, and in some cases more. You don't have to specify a racial angle on the economy, the war, health care, etc. because all of it affect us. There are more poor white people in the US than poor blacks. I see no reason to make poverty a black issue. There is also a respectable sized black middle class that is being squeezed just like the white middle class.

I think black folks need to grow up and realize the world isn't all about us. When I read anti immigrant or other xenophobic nonsense from black people, I can't help but realize just how horribly brain washed we are. We'd rather throw our lot in with Massa (or his wife) than a black man or a brown man who speaks another language. I call it self hatred.

And again, I'm not voting for Obama just because he's black. I don't make decisions based on race but apparently a lot of black people are not voting for Obama just because he's black, or more precisely, not black enough. Obama gets change in a unique kind of way, from the ground up. That he's black is simply a bonus. If there was no Obama, I'd be voting for Edwards.

I totally concur with danielle and luv said.

Sometimes, you've got to keep your true agenda under wraps until you get what you want. There are certain things that I have chosen to deduce from BO's hx in determining his character and his committment to Black people:

(1) he is married to a black woman and she is in his company most every where he goes which in my opinion tells me that he is committed to black people. (Unlike Jessie, Al, Andy who never bring their wives with them anywhere);

(2) he worked as a community organizer b/f joining a white-chip law firm which tells me that he cares about poor and working class people;

(3) he attended a church which preached black empowerment, and this association is another thing that folks are tyring to use against him; His association w/ Trinity United tells me he's no house negro and believes in black empowerment.

My grandma would always say that you can show a person better than you can tell them and I think based upon Barack Obama's hx and association, he's shown that he loves black people. Let's not force him the nomination by insisting that he verbally tells us he loves us. It's going to take a populous for him to win, so he can't go there!

All I have to say is read, "The Spook Who Sat By the Door."

I agree with what some people have said here. Obama being the militant Black revolutionary may make some feel good, but it will get him drop kicked off the ballot. Obama is playing the ultimate political chess game because, let's face it, we're less than 15% of the population. We have to redefine what it means to be Black. Is it solely measured on what we do and how we speak? Or is it just who we are? This is a good opportunity to finally shatter limiting stereotypes about how "real" Black people dress, act and what we eat for dinner. Because no matter what, none of us can rub off our skin color and escape who we are (fill in your best Michael Jackson joke here).

However, I also understand the cynicism of others. The imfamous "Will America ever elect a Black President?" has been asked ever since "Black History Month" was introduced to us in pre-school. We all thought this question would remain a rhetorical one. Now, probable history is smacking us in the face and we don't know if we can actually believe it or not. And I'm telling you, after seeing Jesse Jackson run twice (1984, 1988) and Rev. Al (2004), Omaba is the best shot we've got. We have to remember he's running for the President of the ENTIRE United States, not just Black America. So, keep that in mind as some of you struggle with your decision to support Barack. I'm sure he wants to break out of the "racial neutrality" box, but he knows he has to play it smart to get elected.

Also, make no mistake, all these attacks coming from Civil Rights Leaders is based on their fear of becoming irrelevent. If America elects its first Black President, what does the Democratic Party need them for? Their partonage handouts will dry up. It'll mark the end of the Civil Rights Generation's importance and will be forced to pass the torch. Current mayor of Newark, NJ Cory Booker (Gen Xer) had to battle a vicious campaign against then mayor Sharpe James (Civl Rights Gen). It bitterly divided the Black community. It was only due to Sharpe James stepping out of the race (due to corruption allegations) the second time around that made it easier for Cory Booker to become mayor. Power is too inticing to give up and that's what Omaba is fighting on a national level.

And to seattle slim who said "Give me Guiliani ANY day over that guy (Romney)." You don't want to do that. I live in NYC and survived the Guiliani years. He's incredibly facist, racist and the biggest nightmare if he ever becomes President. He racially pulverized this city. Amadou Diailo was shot 41 times, two cops stuck a plunger up Abner Luima's ass and Guilani formed a special task force specifically targeted to lock Black people up. And to top it off, before his second attempt to snatch the mayorialship out of the Black hands of then mayor David Dinkins, he led a Police demonstration on the steps of City Hall and called Dinkins a wash room attendant. So, TRSUT ME. McCain, Romney are angels compared to Guilani. 9/11 saved his politcial career and he's milking it for all it's worth. For all of our sakes, it won't be worth much.

luv, I love your passion. But I think someof the misgivings about Barack are legitimate. Not so much his blackness (Is there even such a thing?) but his policies and what type of leader he will make. Will he just get into office and do the same old same old? K Street is a powerful place in D.C.

Kim, thanks for the kind words, I posted on your State (above). I know that one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch :) And as for supporting Obama....well, I might be back on that band wagon soon. It's not personal to Obama, I just mistrist all politicians.

Burpster, WTF? Start writing tose letters to Xbox right now!

If I had to choose another canidate it would probably be McCain. For the simple reason was he's been through a war, been a prisoner or war, he's knows the horror of it first hand. He knows what the media is not telling us. The repercussions of this war that has no end in sight is goign to be fierce. There's so support for them while they're over there, no support when they get home. A mess. I think there was no way around this war but it would've been better with someone more experienced since Bush did have a fucking clue and did not take Powell's advice. I would love love a woman president and do I blame Hillary for doing what she has to do to get there. No, it's politics-don't take it personal. Do I think Obama got some shady in him-most definately. He's a politican, he has too. He would've never made it this far if he didn't. He slick his shit and I respect that. And Guliani can suck a dick. And the Morman-is it Rommey-them motherfuckers believed we grew tails at night. In the back of his mind he still believes that shit. He's a dangerous man, methinks if he becomes president.

Hillary must have grown tired, of the Clinton camps true colors becoming exposed, but as stated always, everything we do in the dark eventually surfaces to light! Black Americans can now rethink the myth of Bill Clinton as the first black President fallacy!

So what now, Hillary came out apologizing, and calling for truce, so she can look like a virteous white women who did the Christian thing and turned the other cheek? I'm sorry if I sound so hard on Hillary, but her southern strategy really exposed her true self.

As the social commentary from D. Chappelle,

"When keeping it real, goes wrong!"

I believe someone in O's camp said, you could keep it real or play the game.

This is why he is real competition to H.C. And she knows it...everyone knows it NOW.

Oy! I know this is the least of his worries, but I look at Obama and wonder, does he eat enough?!

perhaps I shouldn't vote for him...

lol just kidding.

As for Hillary apologizing. I'm betting that both the insult and the apology was not that she was a racist and now reformed. it was all political.

Bob Johnson's apology to Obama is a DAY late and a DOLLAR short. You can't un-ring a bell once you've rung it.

That House Negro can't stand all the heat we're generating under his ass.

He also needs to apologize for the crap he put on the Air aka, BET, with the booty-shaking videos, pimps up - hoes down shows he put on the air after getting rid of bonified journalists and commentators like Tavis Smiley, Ed Gordon and Jacqui Reid.

Finally, he needs to apologize for selling-out to VIACOM, and trying to get himself on a GOP agenda to protect his ill-gotten loot (which I'm happy to say, his ex-wife got half without a GTMG kit (Get That Money Girl).

If I say anymore about Bob Johnson, I will have to go to the lawn and throw up on him while he holds the lantern.

Field, is it okay for Obama to criticize MLK?

What's up Brother Field. Obama is no dummy. He can't play it like Al or run the rhethoric of Jessie. You only get to show your ass once you get in the house. You just need to look as far as Clarence Thomas to figure that out.

And I'm not calling Obama a "Tom" -- not in the least, but he does have to keep his composure, we are only 13% of the voting population and some of us still insist on carrying the water for Massa.
